A Mouse on Stilts?
on October 17, 2019
Posted by: RedScorpion
from Oklahoma City, OK
This is a strange mouse. I like Logitech mice. I have been using Logitech mice for decades. This... is a strange mouse. For starters, it has legs, risers that keep it elevated. I'm not sure what this accomplishes.
This is also the first mouse I have had in a while that seems to need to be broken in. I use a hard mouse pad, and the Logitech G604 feels like it is constantly scraping against the mouse pad. Instead of a smooth glide, I get a small bit of resistance. It's gotten better (the gliders on the mice seem to be wearing and the experience is gradually smoothing out), but it's nowhere near as smooth as my other mice at the moment. Even on a cloth mouse pad, the G604 isn't as smooth as my other Logitech and Corsair mice.
The ergonomics are taking me a bit of time to get used to. It feels like someone saw the ship "Serenity" from the show "Firefly" and said "design a mouse shaped like that!" The back looks like a bird's beak.
The more I use it, the more I like it, but the G604 has taken me a bit to get used to. I feel like I am gripping it more than I do other mice. My palm doesn't rest quite as easily. Time will tell how ergonomic this mouse really is, but for the moment I am adjusting.
The 1MS response time is great. In my experience, it is near indistinguishable from wired mice. However, don't expect to get that same response time over Bluetooth. Switching between bluetooth and Light-speed Wireless Sensor has been easy enough. It's nice having a mouse that can work on my PC one second and then my Samsung Tablet or my Laptop with a button press.
For the most part, the buttons have been responsive. I like how snappy the primary and secondary buttons are. The six thumb buttons are a bit cumbersome, but I am getting used to it. They're a bit mushy, but they work and it's nice having the hotkeys there for office or gaming applications. The DPI switches work easily and the scroll wheel is a bit loud during ratcheted scrolling, but it works well.
There is no weight adjustment. I can't say the mouse feels too heavy or too light. But, I know some purists want that level of customization, and the G604 doesn't offer that. Also, should probably point out that this mouse is probably best suited to right handed users. Lefties will be a bit out of luck.
GHUB is simple enough and it's highly recommended that you download GHUB to get the full experience. I've never had problems with GHUB itself, however, I have had some conflicts between GHUB and Corsair's iCue in the past.
So, in conclusion, this is a strange mouse. It's a mouse with a great response time and the thumb buttons can be easily customized, but the ergonomics and the less than smooth glide, make it hard to call "great". I'm confident it will get smoother as I use it, but this design just doesn't feel as polished as I have come to expect from Logitech.

It Works... But....
on October 1, 2019

I have mixed feelings about this adapter. It’s huge and heavy. The cable that comes with it is huge and heavy. It’s insulated and thick enough to charge a MacBook, Chromebook, or a Laptop with USB-C charging. But it’s also very cumbersome and bulky. It works, but it’s not my ideal charging solution because of how awkward and big it all is. This adapter and the included usb-c cable take up almost as much, if not more, space in my bag than the adapter that came with the laptop and it’s essentially three times the size of the Samsung adaptive chargers or the bigger iPad chargers.
I tested this adapter with a LG Gram Windows 10 laptop which supported USB-C charging, multiple phones, and tablets. USB-C charging with the LG Gram worked, but it was slower than a charge with the standard power adapter. If charging from 30 percent with the standard ac adapter, the computer would estimate a complete charge time of an hour and a half, but with usb-c it would be closer to two and a half hours. I couldn’t figure out why most people wouldn’t just charge the laptop normally and plug their phones into the laptop to charge if they were desperate to save outlets? Maybe that is a limitation on the tablet or on the usb-c hardware?
With my Samsung Galaxy tablet, I could get adaptive fast charging if I used the included USB-C cable, but not if I used the standard USB-A to USB-C cable that came with the tablet and I just found that USB-C cable too bulky. I don’t know why I lost adaptive charging with the USB-A outlets.
iPhone and iPad charging worked great. I could see myself trying a different usb-c cable in the future and then this seems like a better option as I would have a usb-a for watch, another for a charging pad, and then the usb-c for tablet.
Apologies for this review. It is all over the map. I really like the idea of having one charger for everything. But I’m not going to charge my laptop with this if it charges faster over a standard connection. I might see this being a good travel option, but I would want a more flexible cable.
I would recommend this if you want a solid usb-c charger for your devices and you’re okay with the size and the fast charging compatibility issues.

The Cable Is Perfect... If You Have the Right USBC
on September 30, 2019

Out of the box, this cable provides HDMI for compatible devices. The trick is whether or not your USB-C device supports hdmi out. My Samsung Tablet worked great. My LG-Gram Windows 10 laptop worked great. My Acer Nitro 5 Windows 10 laptop, did not. Found out that the USB-C connector on that laptop is Gen 1, does not have a PCI-E connection to the main board, and therefore does not support video out over USB-C. Turns out USB-C isn't as universal of a standard as we hoped it would be.
If you're curious if this device will work for you, you may have to do some research. It worked on 2/3 of my devices and the build feels sturdy. I wish it was a bit longer, but as is, it's a perfect travel companion for my tablet.

Baby Shark Do Do da Do Do Do
on September 12, 2019
Posted by: RedScorpion
from Oklahoma City, OK
Since I was a small child, I have had a dream, err mission, rather, to have my very own robot army. And, let me tell ya, phase one, robot janitorial staff, is nearly complete. The Robot Vacuum R76 does a very good job as a vacuum. It just isn't the brightest robot.... But just because it's a little bit special, doesn't mean it isn't capable at what it does.
Compared to the pricier models, this shark does not come with mapping software and it will bump its way right into your heart. It can be a little special. I had it get stuck once or twice during scheduled cleanings, but, for the most part, it did a good job.
The kit comes with a charging station, brushes, and magnetic strips to keep your own little R2-D2 in line. The strips work well if your robot is approaching them straight on, but if it turns into them, it can move the strips thus negating their purpose. So, to keep that from happening, you need to keep your strips a foot or so back from whatever object you want the shark to avoid. I wish there had been more strips in the box. As it is, I found myself trying to baby shark proof my two bedroom apartment.
Battery life is very good. It ran for nearly 90 minutes on max suck.
During my most recent clean, I had the Shark get stuck twice. One time made no sense to me as it seemed to be trying to go somewhere it couldn't go and then found itself off level. Another time, it simply got stuck under the bed. But I have never had it fail to get back to the docking station (assuming it wasn't previously stuck).
As a vacuum, I like it. I had to empty the dust bin after each major session. It definitely picks things up.
The app on iOS and android works well. The Shark will tell you if it gets stuck or needs assistance. You can set up schedules and tell the shark to return to dock from the app. At the moment, I can't get the Alexa or Google Assistant to recognize the Shark. I'm told that feature will be working properly within the next few weeks.
So yeah. My very first robot vacuum and I like it. I just have to remember to baby shark proof my place before the next scheduled session...

Smoothie Operator?
on September 4, 2019
Posted by: RedScorpion
from Oklahoma City, OK
I decided it was high time I started drinking and eating better. All of us could probably stand to lose a few pounds, and I could stand to lose a few more than most people. Enter the NutriBullet Blender combo! In addition to the 32oz and 24oz bullet cups, you get a full blender pitcher. The pitcher and the cups are made of hard plastic and the pieces all snap together well. Set up is incredibly simple.
So far, usage has been okay. I like the amount of accessories I get for the money. The various cups are nice and the blade for the cup cleans up pretty easily under warm, soapy water.
My biggest challenge to date has been finding a smoothie that I liked. I've tried a few of the recipes in the included manual, and, let me tell ya, anything with spinach in it will probably be green or brown by the time the blending is done. I don't see how you could combine red and green colors and achieve anything else.
The NutriBullet system worked okay, but I did have some struggles. It usually would blend things eventually, and once blended, things were smooth. But.. it would take a few tries with the extract or higher settings for most of the smoothies I was making. The extract button runs for a minute and the blender shuts off to keep from burning up the motor. According to the manual, you're supposed to then wait a minute before running again. So, I found myself waiting and cycling the machine more than I expected. Some ingredients didn't incorporate or blend into the mixture well. Yogurt gave me fits; you can see an unincorporated vein of yogurt that never did want to blend into the mixture. I'm learning there is a system to knowing what speeds and which options to run and that is taking me a bit to figure out.
The pitcher is good size, but the blade is integrated into the base of the pitcher. I couldn't find any instructions to remove the blade. So, when that blade gets worn down (six months from now?), it's likely you'll have to replace the entire pitcher, too.
I've owned blenders in the past, but this is my first blender system specifically designed around making individual smoothies. I think it will work better the more I get used to it. Right now, there's a dual learning curve of finding recipes I like and recipes that work well with the machine.
If you make a lot of smoothies and the convenience of having both a blender and bullet cups appeals to you, then I think you will probably like it. I have some concerns about long term usage, but for the moment, I am enjoying the machine. I look forward to trying my hand at the various soups, sauces ... and did someone say frozen cocktails?

Simple Setup with Great Sound
on August 27, 2019
Posted by: RedScorpion
from Oklahoma City, OK
Short Version: The LG SL4Y is slick, sounds great, and is simple to set up. I just wish that the instructions in the box had been a bit more detailed. The manual decodes the various abbreviations on the soundbar's display and explains the mounting equipment and features better than the included materials. The soundbar does a good job creating room filling sound while keeping rich dialogue. The cinema mode does a good job recreating the theater experience. If you are looking for a simple soundbar to create rich sound in movies and music, I suggest you give this bar a look.
Long Version: A few weeks ago, I picked up a LG 50 inch UM7300PUA TV. The TV has good picture, but the sound was somewhat lacking. Thankfully, the SL4Y sounds great and works like a charm with my LG TV. I connected my soundbar with an optical cable (one is included in the box), but there is also a wireless sync for LG TVs. Once set up in my TV's settings, I was able to control and power the sound bar with the TV remote. From the online documentation, the soundbar is supposed to perform similarly with other brands. The sub-woofer is wireless and syncs with the soundbar out of the box.
The SL4Y advertises Dolby Digital and DTS sound, but you need the optional wireless rear channel speakers to get any type of surround mixing. There is no Dolby Atmos or simulated surround with this soundbar.
As a music player, the SL4Y sounds amazing. You can plug in a USB flash drive with your own music or you can stream from your phone / tablet. The soundbar's remote control can be used to scroll through folders on a USB device or to play / pause / skip track on your iPhone or Android device. The soundbar will read MP3s and WMA files. Pairing my phone with the soundbar was easy and my music sounds great. If you are concerned about unwanted bluetooth connections, there is a bluetooth lock. In BT mode, hold down the play button for three seconds to toggle the lock on/off.
In the box, you will find wall mounts and leg stands to add more height to your sound bar. I didn't need either and the soundbar fits perfectly underneath the TV, but people with wall mounts should know LG provided some mounting options.
I wish that there had been more documentation included with the soundbar. You can find the full manual here: https://www.lg.com/au/support/support-product/lg-SL4Y
I hope this review has been somewhat helpful. I have really enjoyed this sound bar. I know this review is a bit scattered, but I like the SL4Y. It's simple to use, set up, and it sounds really good. For me, that's more than enough.

Great for XBOX and Windows 10 Back-Up
on August 17, 2019
Posted by: RedScorpion
from Oklahoma City, OK
I have been building computers for the last twenty five years. WD hard drives have always been the most consistent and stable drives. (I love the new Black SN750.... Really can't say enough good things about that NVME drive...) And I love this My Passport, too. It's not as fast as the ultra options. I know I get slightly faster transfer times from the Seagate Back-Up Plus Ultra Touch. But, that drive also crashed on me a few times and, so far, the My Passport hasn't. It's stable, reliable, and fast enough.
For reference, I was able to transfer a 2.5gb file from my desktop hard drive to the back-up in under 5 seconds at an average speed of 117MB/S. My older drives from WD and Seagate performed under 100MB/S, so I definitely feel like this is an upgrade in speed as well as size.
The new big feature with this Passport is the AES-256 hardware encryption. I feel like that's a pretty standard feature these days. The software has been updated. It's all very user friendly and the base software is included on the drive or you can download the software from western digital directly.
I also tested this drive on an XBOX ONE as an external storage solution, and that may be how I use this drive. My 2 TB Passport was pretty full and this drive works great with the XBOX.
All-in-all, I think this is a good drive. It does what it sets out to do well. I haven't had any problems and it's very easy to recommend if you are needing a back-up for work, media, or even as an external drive for an XBOX.

Solid Wired Performance
on July 23, 2019
Posted by: RedScorpion
from Oklahoma City, OK
Logitech makes very solid computer peripherals. They almost always have. Corsair and Razer make good mice, too. But most of the computers in my home office have Logitech mice and for good reason: they’re solid and almost always perform well. I still have a Performance MX mouse from 8 years ago on my desk at home.
The G403 Hero is another solid mouse. I’d say it’s “no frills”, but that’s not really true. It has just enough buttons. It feels solid. The Hero 16k sensor does a great job in online games like Fortnite or Overwatch.
Lightsync and adjustable DPI are easy enough to configure via the Logitech G-Hub software.
It is a lighter mouse than most my other mice. It feels close to a Corsair Dark Core SE, but at the same time it has the great palm fit that I have come to expect from Logitech. The adjustable weight changes things slightly, but probably not enough for most people to notice or care.
There is really good responsiveness in the clicks. The mouse has engineered springs to keep the button clicks snappy.
Also, this isn’t a gripe, but a reminder that, in my experience, the Logitech GHUB software can cause a conflict with Corsair’s iCue. So if you use Corsair iCue for keyboard or headphones, this could pose a problem.
In conclusion, another solid mouse. It has just enough buttons and feels solid.

Sony Brings the Noise with Good, but Flawed Earbud
on July 20, 2019
Posted by: RedScorpion
from Oklahoma City, OK
I was excited to test these headphones as I love Sony’s portable audio products, but I was a bit disappointed. I’d rate these as a 3.5 out of 5. And, quite frankly, they’re hard to recommend. At least, they’re hard for me to recommend as everyday headphones. Don’t get me wrong, the sound is mostly pretty good. I get way more bass and a much clearer audio presentation from these than I do Apple AirPods and similar offerings from Jlab and JVC. If that is all it takes to put you over the edge, then pick a set up. I think if you are a frequent flyer, these headphones are a no-brainer. They travel well, and the battery life has been pretty good in my usage.
The adaptive audio has done a good job controlling outside sound. Walking outside on a windy day in Oklahoma, I can hear every note and word. The earbuds do a good job drowning out loud appliances and road noise.
I love the case. There’s a magnet in the case that snaps the buds into place as you get them close to their slot. The charging lights and design of the case and the buds are great. I like the USB-C connection. I would have preferred a longer cable or a cable built into the case, but that’s a nitpick.
But, that’s where the good news ends. I had a lot of problems with these Earbuds… On my iPhone 7, I had random disconnections. The right ear wanted to cut out a lot. But I didn’t have those same disconnects on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4. The earbuds don’t fit my ears very well and are designed to go deep into the ear canal. If they aren’t sealed well in the ear canal, the noise cancellation does not work quite as well. On the subject of fit, I couldn’t find a ear tip that fit all that well. The earbuds didn’t want to stay in my ear while I walked. Consequently, I found myself accidentally accessing the touch controls repeatedly as I tried to keep the earbuds in the ear.
The touch controls worked better than the JLAB Air Sport True Wireless headphones, but some of the features like cupping the ear for quick attention mode, never worked for me. The Sony Headphones Connect app works well enough, but it was also constantly using my phone’s location information while in use.

Google Assistant worked great with my Android devices, but on iPhone it required using the Google Assistant App, which has never worked right for me. Sometimes it works, and sometimes I have to restart the app multiple times while cursing Google. It also made little sense to have the Google Assistant on iPhone as you can access Siri by holding down the right touch sensor. Thankfully, you don’t have to use Google Assistant and can program the left sensor for ambient sound controls. But again, on Android, the Google Assistant controls worked great.
Hands free calling was a mixed bag. The touch controls worked and I could hear the other person on the line clear as if they were in the room, but they told me I was hard to hear.
Over the last year, I have been lucky enough to use the Apple AirPods, the JVC Sport True Wireless Earbuds, and the JLAB JBuds Air Sport True Wireless earbuds. In terms of audio quality, the Sony WF-1000XM3 are the clear winner. If the Bluetooth connection did not cut out and the headphones stayed in my ear, these were the obvious favorites. But, the JLAB earbuds fit my ear better and have a hook to keep them in place. Even the JVC buds stayed in my ear better. The Sony WF-1000XM3 looked and sounded better, but the JLABS were a third of the price and stayed on my ear. So, guess which set I will be using more for my every day?
So, I guess I am begrudgingly recommending them if you have a newer phone (preferably android / google based) and you are okay with the headphone fit. I'm hoping some of my problems were connected to my current iPhone and that these EarBuds will be much more stable on my next phone. Software can and will be patched, but I'm not sure how I will get them to stay in my ear comfortably.

Great Hard Surface Cleaner
on June 29, 2019
Posted by: RedScorpion
from Oklahoma City, OK
I have been using the FloorMate Jet and I like it. It sucks in a good way!
I found the unit to be very maneuverable, light, easy to operate. However, you must practice trigger discipline if you don’t want to use more water and solution than intended.
Found it best to squirt a small bit, push forward, and then pull the vacuum back to pick up the water and debris. Eventually the roller will get damp and it did streak a bit, but whatever was left behind dried quickly.
There’s a tray included to clean the underside of the vacuum and it also works for storage including a place to keep the rollers. Speaking of rollers, you get two. One is a multi-surface and the other is softer for wood floors.
It’s easy to assemble and to fill and empty tanks. A line on the tank advises you on how much cleaning solution to add.
As others have said, battery life doesn’t last as long as I would like. But it’s long enough to clean a few rooms on high.
Not sure what else there is to add. Hoover sells rollers and cleaning solution. You can get the solution at Best Buy for $10, but a sample bottle is included.
All-in-all, I recommend it for tile and wood floors. It is easy to use and maintain.

where is the micro phone? can it be used for a call center?

The headset features a retractable boom mic on the right ear piece. In my opinion, the headset would work well in a call center or home based call center. There is a mute button built in to the headset and the mic works in either Bluetooth or the wired 3.5mm mode.

Yes.

But it is not wireless on PS4 and XBOX. To use with your XBOX or PS4, you will neeed to use the included 3.5MM AUX console cord.

Yes, if the computer has Bluetooth built-in. If the computer does not have Bluetooth built-in, you will need to purchase a separate USB Bluetooth Adapter *(they tend to run between $10 and $20).

Can it be used with or without the earbuds?

Yes?

Without the included earbuds, you can use your own or connect via Bluetooth. There is no built in speaker on the player if that's what you are asking.

have a 2019 mazda cx3 w/bluetooth capability. Will this work? Is a usb power cord available?

It should pair with your car, but there is no USB power cord. It still relies on an older ac or dc adapter.

Will this work with Apple Bluetooth earbuds?

I don't see why it wouldn't. I paired it with Bluetooth headphones from Samsung, Sony, and JVC without problems. The only quirk is you have to make sure to turn on the Bluetooth feature each time you start the CD player. Also, sometimes the devices have to be re-synced every time you power on. My headphones kept the connection, but some of my Bluetooth speakers did not.

I read online that this mouse doesnt work with windows 10?

I am using Windows 10 ver. 1903. It works fine. It works on Windows 10 over Bluetooth and with the included USB light speed receiver.
