This two-disc Special Edition of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves offers a variety of extras left off the film's initial DVD release. The film itself is presented in a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English soundtracks are rendered in both DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by Kevin Costner and Kevin Reynolds -- who would later have a serious falling out during the making of Waterworld -- and a second commentary track recorded by cast members Morgan Freeman and Christian Slater along with producers Pen Densham and John Watson. The second disc in the package offers a making-of documentary, live footage of Bryan Adams performing his mega-smash love theme from the film, the film's original score presented in Dolby Digital 5.1, a look at the various weapons used in the film, production notes, trailers, and interviews with the cast and crew. This is a first-rate release from Warner Bros.

I am Iron Man!!!

I was pleasantly surprised when I went to see this one in the movies. When I first hear that RDJ was playing Iron Man I was a little bit skeptical...but since I've seen this and Tropic Thunder...he can do anything he wants....I mean cmon..."I'M A LEAD FARMER MOTHER$%&#@%!!!"
This had a really cool storyline, great special effects, good acting...what else is there? I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it. The Bluray does look terrific although the standard def version isn't too shabby either...
What's great about it: Great action, acting and story line
What's not so great: Didn't kill enough terrorists

This movie never should have been made. Arnold is hardly believable as the terminator anymore. Let's forget the fact that the story and the acting was awful...the choice to go with a female terminator was another huge mistake. Normal males, who make up 99% of the audience for these types of movies, don't want to see a 90 lb fashion model trying to be a hero or a villian...it's boring and unrealistic. That's why they all flop miserably...hint hint Hollywood...do you recall Terminator I, II (aside from the unrealistic Sarah Connor as a hero part), Predator, Commando etc etc...?? Not sure when they'll figure it out...hopefully soon...
What's great about it: Female robot was attractive
What's not so great: Everything else

Long resistant to film adaptations of her Mary Poppins books, P.L. Travers finally succumbed to the entreaties of Walt Disney, and the result is often considered the finest of Disney's personally supervised films. The Travers stories are bundled together to tell the story of the Edwardian-era British Banks family: the banker father (David Tomlinson), suffragette mother (Glynis Johns), and the two "impossible" children (Karen Dotrice and Matthew Garber). The kids get the attention of their all-business father by bedevilling every new nanny in the Banks household. Whem Mr. Banks advertises conventionally for another nanny, the kids compose their own ad, asking for someone with a little kindness and imagination. Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews in her screen debut) answers the children's ad by arriving at the Banks home from the skies, parachuting downward with her umbrella. She immediately endears herself to the children. The next day they meet Mary's old chum Bert (Dick Van Dyke), currently employed as a sidewalk artist. Mary, Bert, and the children hop into one of Bert's chalk drawings and learn the nonsense song "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" in a cartoon countryside. Later, they pay a visit to Bert's Uncle Albert (Ed Wynn), who laughs so hard that he floats to the ceiling. Mr. Banks is pleased that his children are behaving better, but he's not happy with their fantastic stories. To show the children what the real world is like, he takes them to his bank. A series of disasters follow which result in his being fired from his job. Mary Poppins' role in all this leads to some moments when it is possible to fear that all her good work will be undone, but like the magical being she is, all her "mistakes" lead to a happy result by the end of the film. In 2001, Mary Poppins was rereleased in a special "sing-along" edition with subtitles added to the musical numbers so audiences could join in with the onscreen vocalists.screen vocalists.

I wish I had a nanny like this...

I grew up in England and I had several nannies. I can assure you that none of my nannies were like Mary Poppins. My nanny used to make us (my two brothers and me) lay face down before lunch. She would rub the back of our ears with linseed oil (not a pleasant odor but it was supposed to promote good humor). Then she would slap the bottoms of our bare feet with a raw London broil (this was, according to her, strengthening our political resolve). She was an odd bird and nothing like Mary. I especially chuckle when she teaches Jane and Michael to snap their fingers to clean up their rooms. Our nanny would snap her fingers and, if our rooms weren't spotless within 20 minutes, we would be forced to bathe in cold water using lava soap whilst she read us Adam Smith's "Wealth of Nations" Needless to say I am not a fan of the free markets. The musical numbers in this are terrific and D. Van D. does a wonderful job in all of his roles (he also plays the dodgey old balloon knot in the bank in case you didn't know)...but he does glorify mopery and vagary. The chilren see him as a hero of sorts whilst they degrade their hard working father. Overall though, this is a classic Disney film and reminds me of better days gone by...minus the linseed oil...
What's great about it: Very nastolgic...
What's not so great: Burt is a weasel

Why George?!?!?...Why?!??!?!

I grew up watching the Indiana Jones movies...when I was a lad I would wear my fedora and bullwhip and run around the neighborhood whipping at the nerds and geeks...hya!!! hya!!!...but I can't understand why, after all these years, you make this pile of garbage...why not just leave it be???
Harrison Ford was pretty good actually, and maybe the best part of the movie...Karen Allen really seemed like an afterthought and her and Indy's dialogue was two clicks south of corny...Shia LaBeuf is terrible in everything...he's a little whiney girly type, which is fine for some roles but not as Indy's son...This movie certainly could have used some Sallah...I mean holla holla, where you at Sallah?!?...Sean Connery would have been an asset..."I'll take 'swords' for $500"...the Russians could've been an acceptable replacement for the Germans but the chick in this was laughable...we need a real bad guy not some weird dominatrix lady that reminds me of my uncle Freddie...
The script was embarassing (Lucas can't write)...Speilberg doesn't have it anymore in my opinion...he used to inject any project he touched with movie magic...Jaws, E.T., Close Enc., Indy I-II-III, Poltergeist I (uncredited)...all the way up to Saving Private Ryan save for a few duds (The Color Purple!!!!....Oprah!!!???!!...give me a break)...but then he ran out of movie magic...such a shame but at least we have his early stuff...
The real shame is that this move could've been really really great and instead it was a major letdown...National Treasure II starring Nick Cage the paperclip (although he was brilliant as H.I.) was actually better than Crystal Skull...This one should've been called "Indiana Jones and the Subpar Script with a Side of Cheese and Shia LaBeuf is Terrible"...I'm going to go cleanse myself by watching "Raiders of the Lost Ark"...
What's great about it: Good effects I suppose
What's not so great: Pretty much the whole movie and everyone involved...

Great remake of a classic

I most certainly enjoyed this movie. It's just plain fun and a good way to spend 2 1/2 hours on a lazy weekend. The movie did drag a bit until they get to the island. I understand the importance of character development but Adrienne Brody and Jack Black are poor choices so we would have been better served with a brief intro then a quick cut to the action. The effects were really impressive but what else would you expect from WETA Studios of Lord of the Rings fame.
Here's my one big gripe with this movie, and in fact all versions of King Kong....
Why the heck would go to the trouble of building a massive wall to keep King Kong and all the other badies out and then build a gate right in front of your villiage large enough for him to walk through? Why not just build a regular sized gate so all the villiagers could come and go but the giant murderous ape could not? I have yet to get a good answer to this question. Please let me know if you think of one...
What's great about it: Really cool effects
What's not so great: Adrienne Brody, Jack Black

The Karate Kid Part II lacks any exciting bonus features, but it does offer a few supplements. A six-minute featurette contains basic information about the film from interviews with director John Avildsen, producer Jerry Weintraub, and Pat Morita. Created at the time of its original release, this feature comes in an unimpressive full-frame format. The other major section is a series of trailers for this film and a few other Columbia Tristar releases. The previews for The Karate Kid and The Karate Kid Part II come in poor, full-frame transfers with very limited sound. There are also selected filmographies for Ralph Macchio, Morita, and Avildsen. The 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer features impressive moments of shining colors and excellent clarity. Much of this transfer works nicely, but there are some moments where the contrast suffers and the picture becomes dark and grainy. This could stem from the age of the print, but it's still disappointing in the overall sense. Even given its uneven nature, this transfer still does a decent job in presenting the story. This disc also contains a 1.33:1 full-screen transfer for people more accustomed to television viewing. Bill Conti's rousing score and Peter Cetera's cheesy title track both spring nicely from the speakers on this well-done audio transfer. Although it is only a 2.0-channel Dolby Surround track, the force of the sound renders the limitations less important than usual. The dialogue is clear and understandable throughout the running time, and the sounds have a full texture with plenty of depth.

Great sequal but...

First off, I think this is a fantastic 80's movie. I couldn't wait to see it in the theater. Chosen is a great "bad guy" (I'll explain below why the quotes). All in all, I loved it.
However, I have several problems with this movie:
- First, In the first movie, Danielson moves to a new town with no friends and a bunch a guys pick on him and beat him up and gang up on him. Sure Daniel dishes it out too but he does not deserve to be treated this way. You feel bad for him and are happy when he gets his revenge. In the second film, Danielson goes to Chosen's villiage...starts messing around with his girl...embarasses him in front of his customers...punches him in the groin...and so on. Why the heck should we feel bad for or take the side of Danielson?!?! He should've minded his own business. And so what if honor is maybe taken a little too far for his liking...guess what...go back to Recita where all the Cali whimps are if you don't want to be held to the standards of a man who is responsible for his actions. But I digress
-Second, Mr. Miaggi's father is about 157 years old and it's hardly believable that he's even still alive. Why does he sit there on the docks and cry like his wife an daughter where killed in a car accident or something?!?!...Didn't he see this coming even a little bit???...Not to mention the fact that he hasn't seen his father in over 40 years at least?!?!?!
I enjoyed the film but I always root for Chosen and look away when Miaggi's crying...but that's just me...you go ahead and drink the Karate Kid Koolade if you want to.
What's great about it: Chosen might be better than Johnny
What's not so great: Daniel needs to mind his own business, Miaggi crying

I was told that because I have cable instead of sat or direct tv, that I should go with a projection tv instead of LCD or Plasma. Any truth in that?

No...not that I know of...and I'm pretty informed no this topic. I suppose it all depends on the picture quality of the TV...but projection is a distant third if you ask me...

You can, however, get alot more size for the money with a projection. I personally think they are inferior in too many ways though...

LG - 22" Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD Monitor

The TV, which otherwise looks very good, lack something that I want: an HDMI input. I have an XBOX 360, and I usually play with it through an HDMI cable, but I wanted to know if there are either any TV's in the price range of $0- $400 that are better, with more features; or if there is something I can hookup to get the same quality (1080p) of gaming.
I would highly recommend either the HP, Samsung or Dell PC monitors...they have very good image quality and can all be had for $400 some odd dollars...except maybe the Dell. You can probably upgrade to a 24 incher for this price with HDMI or DVI which is the same thing as HDMI, just need a converter plug. These should all be HDCP compliant so you can watch HD broadcasts and play PS3 or blue ray through them as well. I have an HP2408 and it is fantastic for personal use. I've also had a Samsung, also fantastic and I've read that the Dell is very good too. Hope this helps. Just another thought...if your LG has DVI then all you need is the HDMI to DVI converter tip and you're all set to go...not image loss DVI = HDMI quality.
