Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Red Dwarf Series 7, but it was the worst of the bunch in my opinion. Red Dwarf is a hilarious British comedy. You won't be able to stop laughing through most of it. There are a couple of episodes that are a little boring, but if you look when it was made you'll see why. Red Dwarf was one of the longest running Series in England and that is saying a lot for them. The only real problem with this show is the fact that the "seasons" are so short. When a season is 24 episodes in America. Each "season" in Red Dwarf is only 6 - 8 episodes long. But this is still worth every penny. Red Dwarf had a lot of the atmospheres of Star Trek before them. For instance on Star Trek Voyager, being lost in space millions of years away from earth. Red Dwarf had it first. Also, the "Hard Light" hologram in Voyager (the doctor) was out after Rimmer was already a hard light hologram. Red Dwarf is definitely worth having in your DVD collection.
What's great about it: Red Dwarf Series 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 8
What's not so great: Red Dwarf Series 7

Mass Effect is a very nicely put together game. It is graphically great. It is a lot shorter then it seemed it would be, but a great replay value. As you talk you can change the course of the game. Everything is voice acted which is great because there is a lot of talking. As you play you can choice how to upgrade your teammates as well, this makes it even more different as time goes on. There are side quests you can play that make the game even more in depth. All in all Mass Effect is a great game. I highly recommend at least trying this game out.
What's great about it: In depth storyline that evolves as you talk.
What's not so great: A lot of bugs, but nothing disruptive (that I've seen).

Assassin's Creed is an outstanding game. This game is graphically amazing, the cities are built so good and realistic it's not even funny. Altair (the main character) moves very fluently it looks real (I believe watching one of the development diaries they said he has over 1000 animations to accomplish this realism). As far as the game play is concerned there are many cities and each one of them huge. There is one problem for the OCD video game players out there, maybe even a reason to get a strategy guide. There are different flags in every city, anywhere from 20 - 100 of each type. Collecting all of each type gives you an achievement. The missions are as a lot of people on here say, repetitive. Although this is true it really does not detract from the storyline and game play of the game. A lot of the repetitiveness is fun to do anyway. Achievements for this game are a lot of fun (except the flag gathering ones) there is a lot of variety on the achievements that make it a lot of fun.
What's great about it: Graphics, game play, very large
What's not so great: Tedious flag collecting for the people that have to have everything

A funny look at death

"the big white" is a movie that really makes you laugh at death. There are some gross points throughout the movie but Giovani Ribisi and Robin Williams really make this movie worth seeing. Robin Williams plays a broke travel agent that is trying to help his wife and thinking his brother is dead tries to claim a life insurance policy on him. Giovani Ribisi plays the insurance investigator trying to prove he is not dead. A lot of things mesh together to make this a fun and funny movie. The only problem I had with the movie was that I kept on thinking that this seems a bit to much like "Fargo". Either way, this is deffinetly a movie to watch.

Heavenly Sword is a wonderful game with a great storyline. Graphically this game just rocks as well. Everything looks so realistic with this game. Going through the game the fighting sequences are put together so well, if there is an objective to complete the camera usually zooms in on the point to let you know what to do. Also, the fighting dynamics in the game are great, you can counter attack and do a lot of different moves. The one annoying thing (which once you get used to it becomes easy) is guiding the arrows from you to your target. You have to use the motion sensors in the controller to do this. Everything about the game is really fun.
If you get this game you should enjoy many hours of play.
What's great about it: Graphics, storyline
What's not so great: Controling arrows

Great game, get it!

Halo 3 has it all. Co-op campaign, single player campaign, Forge, split screen even in online ranked games, death matches, and videos.
Single player comes back with avengeance. Play on the hardest difficulty and you will have a nice challenge. It is a little short with only 9 chapters, but very fun and worth playing. You can set up co-op with up to 4 people (including yourself) which makes it a lot easier, (and you still get the achievements) but still pretty rough on the hardest difficulty. There is a video mode where you can actually play back what has happened in the games (even in campaign, which is a good way to look for the hidden skulls), pause, change angles and explore with the free roam camera. Forge is a way to set up your own maps. You can not create the terrain, but you can move objects, flags, spawn points, territories, whatever your fancy is. You can even play a game while creating things at the same time. It is a lot of fun to do.
Finally we come to what everyone wants to do. Death match! Online vs. games are a lot of fun. It is set up like Halo 2 where you play against people with the same (or similar) skill levels. You can play ranked games in parties and if you have too large of a party you can set up a social game. This is all a lot of fun to play around with.
Achievements for this game are decently well done. You will be playing most of the aspects of the game for awhile in order to get them all. The point arrangement could have been a little better in my opinion, but not detrimental at all.
Get this game if you like Halo, first person shooters, or fun!
What's great about it: A lot of fun, deathmatch
What's not so great: Lag... Not inherent in the game, just when it happens.

Collector's extras are not worth it.
on November 18, 2007

The extras for the collector's edition are not worth it. All of the behind the scenes items and making of videos were downloadable on X-box live. There were no extra pictures or themes that came with this one. I strongly recommend the regular edition of this game, but not the collector's edition.
Rainbow Six Vegas really has the trifecta of this style of games in place. First you have the campaign which starts you out in bland dry Mexico (starts out very boring if you've played GRAW or GRAW2) and brings you all the way into Las Vegas. You fight within Casinos and on the streets. You also control a small squad which has very good A.I. and easy controls. As you fight your way through the terrorists you will notice the awesome graphics (and if you play enough, the ever changing posters and advertisements throughout the levels).
Secondly, you can play or co-op either on the same TV or over x-box live. For Co-op you can play through the same campaign which is definitely very fun to do with a friend. There is also a mode called T-Hunt, or Terrorist Hunt which you have a set amount of time to kill all the terrorists in the levels. I recommend online co-op for this one and not split screen because it is a lot easier to kill 25 terrorists with 4-8 people then with only 2 (in this mode you can only die once, no respawn).
Thirdly, there are online matches. A lot of different modes from the normal free for all death match to the more tactical and skilled saving hostages. Also, holding the briefcase for the longest time and more. You rise through the ranks as you go and get the ability to upgrade and customize your own character as you play through the online mode. You can even take a picture of yourself with the camera for the Xbox 360 and make that the face on your person.
During all game play types the game is mostly First person, but you can cover behind walls and either "blind fire", or come out and aim and shoot. This mode is in 3rd person mode. Either way it blends together in a very easy to learn and easy to control way.
Achievements are great in this one, a huge variety for all different modes; you will find a few easy medium and hard ones to get. (For an easy one buy or borrow the camera, you get 30 points for taking a picture of yourself with it)
All in all I would say this is a must have if you like first person shooters or tactical infiltration games. It's got the best of both worlds combined. I strongly recommend this game.
What's great about it: The game itself.
What's not so great: The Extras are not special.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Star Wars!

Lego Star Wars is an awesome game. Even though you may have played one or both of the other separate games this is still worth getting and playing. It has 120 playable characters and you play through each of the 6 episodes of the Star Wars Saga. There are 6 chapters in each level to make for 36 levels in all. Then you have all the bounty hunter missions and the secret little unlockable missions throughout the game. There is just so much to do. Also the achievements are totally different from the Lego Star Wars II game and are a lot more fun to get. My only gripe is that you can not receive the storyline achievements while playing as the co-op player, only player one gets them. (Example: Complete episode I: Phantom Menace is an achievement; you don't get that as player 2). However the other ones (example: kill 5 people with a saber slam) you can get as either player. You can also play this game online over x-box live co-op. That is a very nice feature.
Achievements for this game are fun to get and well worth the time. The only problem I have already mentioned.
What's great about it: Co-op over xbox live
What's not so great: You can't get achievements for completing the levels unless you are player one.

More sandbox fun
on November 14, 2007
Posted by: Whyse
from Tucson, AZ
Saints Row is a lot of fun but it steals a lot of ideas from Grand Theft Auto. For this reason it is a good game to tide you over until GTA 4 actually releases. This is a Sandbox game and a decently fun one at that. You are in a gang and are trying to take over the entire city for your own game, you need to gain respect to open up new missions (which can be annoying because this means going on side quests that are sometimes annoying) and there are a lot of mission types as you go through the game. You have the ability to fully customize yourself from your height and weight, to your face and haircut. You can also buy clothes that if you wear the right colors can increase your respect by a certain percent. You can play this game online, although not the campaign. There are a lot of different online modes to play through. I did not find these all that fun though.
Achievements for this game are actually very difficult but for a sandbox game with so much to do; I think they are fair. I recommend this game to anyone that enjoys sandbox style games, or for people that enjoy GTA, but have played the previous titles too much and need a similar game to play in the mean time.
What's great about it: Very similar to GTA
What's not so great: Very similar to GTA

Oblivion is hours of fun
on November 14, 2007

Oblivion is hours and hours of fun filled adventure. This is like an MMORPG without all the "real" people messing it all up. Graphically Oblivion is very nice, with a huge map to roam including Forrest areas, lakes, rivers, hidden dungeons throughout the land. The villagers have emotions that you can change and make people like you more/less. You can ride horses, shoot bows, cast spells. This game has everything. You can join a number of different guilds which you can advance in over the course of the game. You can build your character from appearance to special skills to what sign it was born under. All of these decisions effect how your game progresses. Doing things make you better at them. For an example the more you fire a bow, the better you get at it and the more damage it starts doing. Same with anything else, jumping, defending, using magic, everything. This game has a very comprehensive storyline to it as well, during the game you can branch off and do one of the literally hundreds of side quests that are in the game as well. You can even buy and decorate a house in every town.
The only really bad things about this game are the fact that the end of the storyline gets really repetitive, so much so that you may have to play another game for a few weeks before you start in on it again. The other thing is all this room in the game and there is not even a co-op mode. I think this would have made the game a classic. I understand why, but it would be nice is all to have at least co-op.
Achievements are pretty straight forward. You will get them by advancing through the game and the guilds and that is about it. This is a great buy and I recommend it to anyone who likes RPG.
What's great about it: Very long game, 100s of side quests, 1000s of things to do.
What's not so great: A bit repetitive at the end of the main storyline.
