Steven Spielberg's variation on Peter Pan, Hook comes to DVD with a superb widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. Closed-captioned English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround. English subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include theatrical trailers, talent files, and production notes. This disc offers excellent picture and sound quality, making it worth a look, especially considering the reasonable list price.

A different look at child's classic story

If you liked all the other versions of Peter Pan, than Hook is one of those movies that you would love in your collections. This time Peter Pan grows up and has forgotten all the Lost Boys, Tinkerbell, Neverland, and even Hook.

Francis Ford Coppola and Robin Williams team up for the sentimental comedy Jack. The film makes its debut on DVD with this disc, which offers a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English, French, and Spanish soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. French subtitles are accessible. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, which is hardly a surprise considering this film's less than stellar reputation. This is a fine, bare-bones release from Hollywood.

Robin Williams playing himself

Robin Williams plays a kid with an admormal growth, that has him with a body of 40 year old, but he was born only 10 years ago. A very funny movie with cameos of America's Favorite TV Dad, Bill Cosby and Jennifer Lopez who is actually good, maybe because she is in a room full of ten year olds.

Those who might dismiss Robin Williams' cross-dressing farce as mere piffle would do well to examine this DVD release that is simply brimming with noteworthy features. A solid 2.35:1 widescreen transfer is the first attribute. The picture looks better than ever, and the letterboxing brings more depth to many of the scenes. The sound is also commendable, but in such a dialogue-laden film, it never really takes center stage. What really sells this DVD are the extras. An excellent commentary track from Chris Columbus is alone worth the price. He knows the film inside and out and provides some great anecdotes about Williams' improvisation on the set, as well as some insight into his own vast knowledge of cinema (who would ever think to look for a reference to John Ford's The Searchers in Mrs. Doubtfire?). Viewers also get a great collection of deleted scenes, most of which easily could have been left in the film. In addition, there is a ton of information about how Williams made the transition from male actor to the titular character. These include makeup tests and actual early test footage of Williams and co-star Sally Field. Lastly, fans of animator Chuck Jones' opening sequence will love the interviews with Jones about the creation of the cartoon, as well as pencil tests and the entire animated sequence with Williams providing the voices. Mrs. Doubtfire, one of 1993's most innocuous movies, turns out to be one of the more solid DVD releases on the shelves.

This is one of my favorite Robin Williams' movies to date. My favorite scenes are with his daughter saying, "We are his God____ kids, too," another is nanny interviews, and at the pool with the driveby fruiting. There isn't a moment in this movie that doesn't have me laughing.

A sweet, but superficial film with a straightforwardly superficial release, Bicentennial Man offers DVD viewers little in the way of interest, with its only extras being its trailer and promotional featurette (the latter essentially consisting of the trailer cut around very brief cast interview snippets) and a trailer for Music Of The Heart. The trailers are drawn from good masters, and the featurette looks good but offers nothing. The video on the main feature is good, with no sign of compression artifacts, bleed, or shimmer, and the anamorphic image (letterboxed at 1.85:1) is reasonably sharp and clear, with accurate colors, though the overall feature seems somewhat on the muted side after the very colorful (and clever) main titles. The general image quality is high enough, however, that the larger part of the CGI visual effects, which occur as background elements throughout, are quite striking and blend well. As a curiosity, the single-sided, dual-layer disc includes a complete French-language version of the film, complete with main and end titles in French. This transfer is darker and more muted than the English edition, and displays a number of scratches and blemishes. The English Dolby 5.1 soundtrack is fairly clear, though extremely muted, with some odd level changes throughout that required constant adjustments to gain. Separation is good, but the surrounds are rarely given anything other than a little ambience, and the bass channel rarely is called upon. James Horner's score is blended effectively enough to be barely noticeable, aside from the main title music, which has a jarring resemblance to the work of Philip Glass, and thus rather stands out. The French Dolby 2.0 track has a good voice cast, but also suffers with the music being at a much higher level in the mix.

A comedy with that has a drama feel

Ths is a good movie to watch Robin Williams range of emotions and acting ability. The way this android went from being a servant to family member to a lover to human was remarkable. I like the contrast at the beginning with Little Miss feel in love with Andrew, but he didn't know and when Andrew met Little Miss's granddaughter, he feel in love with her. Its a funny movie, but it has its moments of being very dramatic and emotional.

Men in Black II comes to DVD with an anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. Subtitles are accessible in both of those languages as well. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by director Barry Sonnenfeld, a handful of featurettes covering every aspect of the film's production, a music video from Will Smith, multi-angle options on some scenes, and filmographies. Those with a DVD-ROM drive can access a game, the film's script, and screensavers for a PC. This is a superb release from Columbia/TriStar.

Alot better than the first one

A good movie that wasn't as kiddish as the first one. The combo of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones keeps the laughs going on throughout the movie. The best scene of the movie would probably be the postal office, with Kay finding out that he was in MIB. If you like the first one, I recommend this one. And even if you didn't like the first one, you might like this one anyway

Reminds me of another story

This movie was recommended to me by 'futuremrsbrazil' to watch this movie, but it reminded me of two other saga movies, namely Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. I liked it but with the young farm boy learning about dragon riding, it was too much like Luke Skywalker learning about the Force. Okay, what happened to the farm boy's brother? He left at the beginning of the movie and never returned, but the ending left an openning of a sequel, just like Lord of the Rings. I don't think it will continue, because the tickets sales was low.
What's great about it: SGI of the dragon was nice
What's not so great: Not original

The real DVD of Sin City has finally arrived -- and it is good. In fact, this release is brilliant. Not only does it split each individual story into their own separate uncut pieces as originally conceived in the comics, but just as expected with most of Robert Rodriguez's discs, the quality of the abundant extras are top-notch. If there's anyone in the movie business that clearly could be considered a teacher of the art, it's Rodriguez. Whether he's explaining how to make a movie with zero money or laying out how easy the world of cinema is with the dawn of the digital age, the man is the teacher whom every viewer wishes he or she could take continuing classes from. This extends to his ten-minute Cooking Schools, which make their triumphant return on this release as he takes you through how to cook late-night Sin City breakfast burritos! Face it, though, this is Frank Miller's baby, and thankfully, his stamp of approval is all over this sucker. From the animated menus to his commentary track with Rodriguez all the way to his narration of individual characters and settings in the world of Sin City, there's plenty of Frank Miller to chew on throughout the two discs. If that wasn't enough, this edition comes with a sized-down reprint of the first Sin City comic, The Hard Goodbye, which can be used as a comparison guide to the finished product. On top of all of this, add in some Quentin Tarantino and Bruce Willis audio-commentary action, plus Rodriguez's patented 15-Minute Flick School (which sadly only clocks in at 12 minutes), plus much, much more! This is the one and only true edition of Sin City that's worth the price of the purchase, and, yes, it was indeed worth the wait.

Comic book on the big screen

This movie really looks like a comic book on the big screen, with the different shotrs of shadow and light and the little splash of color in some scenes. I like that all the stories are tied into each, but each one could stand on its on.

Barry Sonnenfeld's science fiction-comedy Men in Black comes to DVD with a pair of transfers. The widescreen anamorphic transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and is preferable in every way to the standard full-frame image. Closed-captioned English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround, while a French soundtrack has also been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. English, French, Spanish, Cantonese, and Mandarin subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include commentary tracks recorded by Sonnenfeld and the actors and filmmakers, a music video from Will Smith, trailers, a preview for Men in Black 2, production notes, and a making-of documentary. This is a superb disc from Columbia TriStar.

Funnyman Cedric the Entertainer stars in this comic road trip, which comes to DVD in an edition with plenty of extras. Johnson Family Vacation has been given two transfers to disc -- a letterboxed version in the film's original widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1 (which has been enhanced for anamorphic play on 16 x 9 monitors) and a pan-and-scan version in the full-screen ratio of 1.33:1. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital 5.1; the dialogue is in English, with optional subtitles in English and Spanish. Bonus materials include a commentary track featuring Cedric the Entertainer, co-star Bow Wow, director Christopher Erskin, and producer Eric C. Rhone; another commentary from screenwriters Todd R. Jones and Earl Richey Jones; a collection of outtakes and deleted scenes; and a short documentary on the making of the film.

Can we do any better than this

I feel bad for Cedric The Entertainer, because he keeps making bad choices in movies. He is one of the Original Kings of Comedy, but he keeps falling short on movie roles. This movie seems like they were trying too hard to be funny and it didn't work out. And lets not forget about Mr. Steve Harvey, who hasn't had a good role in movies since Kings of Comedy. Don't get me wrong, I like them both, but I just wish they pick better roles in movies like the other Kings of Comedy

A small, little-seen comedy from 20th Century Fox, Kingdom Come should find a new audience on DVD thanks to this pleasant edition. The picture is excellent, presented in an anamorphic widescreen format with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The sound is a clear Dolby Surround 5.1 transfer. As for extras, viewers get a commentary from director Doug McHenry, a promotional featurette, a music video, and a bevy of trailers and TV spots. Kingdom Come is a pleasant little comedy that's worth seeking out. This DVD edition makes it even more so.

Worst movie ever

Alot of things are so wrong for this movie...for one, why LL and Vivica are the only ones without an accent? Everybody in the town has one, and even Anthony Anderson and Jada Smith, who left the town, had accents, but LL and Vivica who never left, didn't have one at all. Cedric The Entertainer is probably the only good thing about the movie, but his role as country-bama-preacher gets a little boring. Steve Harvey makes a cameo as the only radio dj in the town, but I think he was just practicing for his radio job because there's really no reason for him to be in the movie.
