Good Horror game

I loved F.E.A.R when it was initially released. I thought Monolith had established a great name for themselves in the action/horror genre, and had another series named Condemned to prove it. Now as much as I loved FEAR, it had alot of problems. Not enough scares, repetitive environments, and some lackluster set pieces to name a few. Let me just say that while F.E.A.R 2 isn't perfect, it is a cut above the original. If you have the gut for it, slide this badboy in and get ready to Fear Alma a second time.
The story, while parallel to the storyline from the original, is pretty good as a whole. You play as Sgt. Beckett, who is tasked with recovering a scientist held up in her penthouse. It is there that you learn Alma has escaped, and a massive explosion destroys the city. A stark difference from the original is that Project Origin focuses more on Alma, and who she was, where as F.E.A.R was all about Paxton Fettel and who the Operative you played was as well.
The sound design is spectacular. You still get that high pitched whine when one of many scares occur, and bullets never sounded better. Surfaces all have different sounds when you melee them, and the voice acting isnt so bad either.
The controls will work for some, and not for others. Im a little bummed that the Leaning around corners mechanic hasn't returned. That would have been pretty fun with Sixaxis. But the main gripe is that they aren't very responsive some of the time. Jumping isn't as reliable as I would like it to be, and the movement can get wonky.
Something PO does much better, is that it greatly improves the combat and the scares. This installment feels more refined as a shooter, there really is no other way to explain it. The scares are much more abundant this time around. Where as in the original, you would go levels at a time without seeing something disturbing. My only issue with them is that.. they just aren't that scary. I can definitely give credit for originality, Monolith has earned it, but I just didn't jump that much. To be fair, I don't scare easily, so thats only a personal gripe, and doesen't affect the score.
I wont spend much time on the graphics. The textures are great, and the environments don't suffer from "I've been in this room 100 times before, I can just tell" Syndrome. As a whole, they are on par with today's standards. . If you liked the first, get this. It takes practically everything the first did right, and improved upon it.
For such a reasonable price, and even if you haven't played the first F.E.A.R., this is a quality purchase that is worth at _least_ one playthrough. now this is one Fear, that I don't want to go away.
What's great about it: improves on everything that made the 1st game great
What's not so great: Kind of short maybe will last you 10 hours

Scarier than most big screen horror flicks

The Abandoned is a story about two orphans separated at birth. They each receive some vague information about their mother so they return to a remote part of Russia to learn more about their past. After 40 years, twin brother and sister finally meet and begin to piece together what their father did to their mother. Eventually, they discover that they were brought there to relive what their devious father had planned all those years ago.
As I watched it, the film played on certain of my fears... the times when I've felt trapped in a nightmare - as happens to the main character in one of the many creepy scenes in the film - was one of those. There's regret - on the viewer's part for what's happening to the protagonist and the role she played in bringing about her own circumstances. The film is thought-provoking and refuses to play into Hollywood cliches- by casting an older (and average looking) actress as the lead and using the forces that energize true evil and malevolence as the center of the happenings in the film.
The only problem is (as in 99% of those films) the ending. That's what prevents me from giving it five stars. It is relatively predictive and kind of unsatisfying. But up until five minutes from the end... it is a first-rate horror story. Only the ending goes downhill...
What's great about it: Very good this will scare you
What's not so great: Weak ending

Solid Ghost story which delivers on it's promise

I was a bit surprised way back when I bought this and finally sat down to watch it, compared to the previous ones I had seen this one was good. I have come to find that most of the films in this series are decent while only a few are really good. This one falls kinda in between as it is just good not real good but good none the less. It is actually very creative because the story line I find really intriguing. Imagine saying good bye to a friend and in the process unleashing evil spirits upon you by dancing on their graves, sounds like a good time. That is exactly what happens here and other then a few missteps this is a pretty good flick that I found entertaining.
The movie follows three friends who come together once again for the funeral of a friend; two make it there the other stays away. That is until later that night when he makes the suggestion that they go to the cemetery that night for one last good bye to their departed friend. At first the disagree but soon they all make their way there and happen upon a note, a note that says they should dance, and dance they do. Each grooves on top of one grave each it seems, thus unleashing whom ever it was they were on top of upon them.
This movie really feels like a really good made for TV movie to me, I think because of the way it was shot [especially the opening credit sequence at the cemetery]. Writers Brad Keene and Chris Skinner did a good enough job with this film since the idea behind the movie is actually pretty cool; I think the budget was the biggest enemy of this movie. Director Mike Mendez seems like he could make a really good flick if he had a better budget, this is apparent in the last third of the film. The best example of this is the Ghostbusters style large ghost head chasing the car; once again the budget must be to blame. Also the ghost of the wife beater guy I believe it is looks like an anorexic Pumpkinhead, kinda cool. But aside from that this is a pretty decent flick.
Acting wise I think the entire cast did well enough and pulled of believable enough performances. Dominic Purcell, Josie Maran, Clare Kramer, Marcus Thomas, and all the rest of the cast do good jobs on this film and pull out some believable performances even when the effects are not as good. Even the ghost's are cool in this one, one is a little fire starter maniac while another is a vicious wife beater. Then of course there is the crazy lady bent on cutting you up, or at least in that scene she was. All of them were cool and the actor played well off of the idea of these spirits. Of course like I said not all the special effects were so good, but that is a budget thing I assume.
Over all this is a worthy addition to the series and may be one of the best over all. Still it falls a little short of classic status even though it is original. I guess it will be a while before I dance on graves again, even though i didn't do that before but i'm just saying. how scary this is
What's great about it: Good story
What's not so great: Weak ending

A Haunting, As seen on the Discovery Channel
on September 2, 2009

from New York ' Ny
A Haunting is a documentary series that explores allegedly true tales of hauntings, ghosts and the supernatural. Each show is composed of high quality, atmospheric reenactments following the descriptions of eyewitnesses. Superimposed on the action is the creepy, measured voice of a narrator who sets the mood and explains the events. The show is exceptionally effective. Most episodes have at least some unnerving moments and some are downright scary.
Below is a short description of each episode in the Blu Ray version of Twilight of Evil . The number in parentheses is my "scariness rating"; scale = 1-5 with 5 being the scariest. Minor spoilers throughout.
Where Evil Lurks - A complex haunting takes place in the Ozarks where a daemon that was summoned in a historically haunted house viciously attacks a young family (5)
Stalked by Evil - A spirit that lurks in the closet of a Texas home becomes obsessed with the teenage daughter of the new residents (5)
Dark Wrath - A demon stalks the halls and terrifies the owners of a rural house near St. Louis (4)
Legend Trippers - Legend trippers are people who visit allegedly haunted sites to investigate paranormal activity. In this episode, several groups of teenagers explore an ancient, creepy Wisconsin cemetery (4)
For all you Paranormal lovers out there, this is a must have for your library. Each episode contains enough information to make you wonder "do we have spirits among us right now". Not every episode is scary but each one contains a great story line. I recommend this to anyone who is into the paranormal. by the way it's great seeing this series make it's way onto Blu Ray the picture is very clear. and i love the no Commercials. which makes it easily to get into this.. most likely you would want to add this in your horror collection for Halloween
What's great about it: No Commercials, besides that it's very scary
What's not so great: Nothing

One of the scariest movies I have ever seen

"The Unborn" is a unique horror movie in that it explores something new - a girl being haunted by a demon from Jewish folklore, who wishes to be 'reborn' through her, after failing to possess her twin brother who died in utero. The young woman in question is Casey [Odette Yustman] who suddenly finds herself being haunted by visions of a young boy who has strange, haunting eyes. With the help of her boyfriend and best friend, Casey finds a link between the visions and an old Holocaust survivor who knew Casey's mother before she [Casey's mom] killed herself. Gary Oldman plays a supporting role as Rabbi Sendak who tries to help Casey, as does Idris Elba as an Episcopalian priest.
now.. the film does borrow scenes from other movies, like a take on the creepy spider-walking old lady from "The Exorcist 3", the old monster in the mirror gimmick, and the almost subliminal quick shots of demonic faces as used by William Friedkin in the original "Exorcist".
i'll admit, some of the most appealing images in "The Unborn" are that of Odette Yustman. The camera (and seemingly the film-makers) adore this beautiful woman, and even though much was made of the "exploitation" of her physical appearance in the film. she does help make the film a memorable experience.
if you didn't know? Odette starred in last year's "Cloverfield", this year's "The Unborn", and recently signed on for a remake of an obscure UK horror film entitled "And Soon the Darkness".
With this kind of track record she is well along her way as a "scream queen", and she does have several scenes in "The Unborn" where she has the opportunity to live up to the title - even when she can't scream; in one scene Odette is bound to a gurney and gagged, but she still manages to emote terror quite well even while restrained and with a huge gag holding open her jaws.
As for the Blu-ray release, it parallels the substance of the film, there is just nothing there. The Blu-ray offers both the theatrical version of the film as well as an "unrated, extended cut," but do not think that you will find any more substance with the added footage. The Blu-ray is BD Live enabled, but the only bonus materials included on the disc are "deleted scenes in Hi-Def." These Hi-Def (1080i) scenes give us such memorable fare as: "Scene 90: Casey runs into Mr. Shields" or "Scenes 127-133: Casey jogs by her mom's grave / signs up for classes." The bonus features are good as well
I would recommend this as a good horror chick-flick. The script and cinematography is good. and this is definitely worth a view. that's why I give it 5 stars. I believe this one deserves kudos for effort which turns out to be a pleasant surprise. I think you will find the 90 minutes viewing scary time well spent.
What's great about it: Odette Yustman does a commendable job in this movie.
What's not so great: Fun to look at, but that's it

astounding ghost movie

The Uninvited is a fairly scary movie and the acting was pretty good. The story follows Anna on her journey home fresh from the asylum where she takes up with her sister to rid the household of her father's girlfriend whom they fear is a murderer and has doom in store for them.
So if you have watched ghost movies over the last ten or so years, you basically know this film. It hits all of the major plot points, has a couple requisite twists and throws weird scares at you (it is based on a Korean film, you know). I expected all of this. I even expected one twist that I thought was revealed very early on. Even so, the ending still surprised me and I have to say that this film was classy in telling a familiar story. The truth is, there hasn't really been a genre-changing film in the ghost story genre for awhile now. The Uninvited is no different. So, what is important is not what is being told (as there's nothing new under the sun), but how it's told.
Here The Uninvited soars where a lot of recent ghost stories (Unborn, for example) have failed. The storytelling is far classier than it has any right to be, the script is well-written and convincing and the actors are terrific. Emily Browning, playing Anna, practically carries the weight of the film on her slender shoulders. With her forlorn and innocent gaze, you really start to feel for her increasingly desperate plight. Meanwhile, her sister is played perfectly by Arielle Kebbel who brings a sexy older sibling charm to the proceedings. And then there's Elizabeth Banks, playing the stepmother who might not be all she says she is.
All of this is pitted against a murder mystery or two and wrapped up in a perfect bow. There's not a dull moment in the film, the scares actually startled me, even when I expected them and some of the ghostly hauntings could give the weird factor of The Grudge/Ring a run for their money. It's effective and very well done.
There are a few twists and turns that keep the story engaging and some parts of it were fairly frightening. i will definitely recommend seeing this, it's one of the most refreshing movies i've seen. in a long time
As for the Blu-ray release the picture quality is very sharp and looks excellent in HD and the sound is also solid as well, but the disc lacks with extras. There is an 18-min behind the scenes feature (watch it after the movie some spoilers) deleted scenes and an alternate ending. All the extras are also on the DVD, but the good thing is the features on the Blu-ray are all in HD. Sometimes the features are SD, but not here. I don't know if this movie is popular enough to warrant another edition, but you never know.
What's great about it: Emily Browning delivers excellent performance
What's not so great: Nothing i honesty love it

AKA Deadly Waters, June 18

An underwater photographer and an archeologist combine forces in this one. The photographer has spent most of his life trying to find out about a sea creature that killed his parents when he was a boy. The archeologist is looking for some ancient treasure that sank after being traded on the black market. To make things interesting a cutthroat businessman is trying to find the treasure as his family owned it at one time. An incident with the archeologist gets the attention of the photographer and he manages to get himself included on future dives. Of the three parties he is the only one who has any real idea of what might be lurking under the surface.'
If the treasure is found, it could validate a theory that a certain myth has a basis in fact. But if the photographer is right then there is a very large giant squid in the area and it is willing to go on the attack. Now we have four forces, two good (photographer and archeologist) and two bad (criminal and squid) and a treasure in the middle. How it all works out is up to the viewer to discover.
This movie was in production right when the first live giant squid was caught. The first picture of a live one actually supports the predatory behavior of this one. There are a lot of small references to Jaws and some other fun moments. The special effects were well coordinated and batter than in many movies. The extras were interesting although it was funny to hear them using a different film title. All in all a pretty good little film and a very good sea monster story. Check it out.
What's great about it: Worth checking out
What's not so great: will get tired of it quickly

Granted an Ashlee Simpson record isn't likely to rate very highly on critics' charts, but its too easy to dismiss this as yet another one-star album from the Simpson clan. For the record, I did think Jessica Simpsons' last effort "A Public Affair" was perhaps the most disgusting thing ever put to record before Nicole Scherzinger went solo, so when you compare this album to anything by Jessica, its evident that this one has its' merits.
"I Am Me" is one of those artificial 'pop-rock' albums that rely completely on production rather than its' lead vocalist. Frankly, I couldn't care less if Ashlee Simpson can sing or not - I just want good singalong music that I can put on repeat. On that front alone, this is a very solid album. I would say that this compares quite favorably to Britney Spears' "Blackout", another derided album that is actually quite listenable.
The three best tracks here make up for some of the more filler moments on the CD. The best cut is the massively overlooked single "L.O.V.E", which really is the best thing Ashlee has done. The first single "Boyfriend" is a faux-rock stomper that I would easily recommend over anything by Lavigne, and the sultry "Burning Up" oozes a 1980s vibe, in a very Madonna meets Sheena Easton way (this is a good thing).
If you listen to your music based on who's singing it, then you're probably never even going to venture towards this. However, if you're looking for a fun album that you listen to endlessly and sing along to, then this is the album for you. I am quite surprised at all the negative reviews here because this is indeed a fantastic, purchase-worthy record.

I admit that Ashlee Simpson doesnt have the greatest voice but I really enjoyed this CD. I listed to it for months and learned every word to every song. Some of them start to sound the same after awhile and have the same message but all of them are catchy. Some of my favorites on this CD are "Shadow" and "Piece of Me". "La La". It's worth checking out especially if you are a big Ashlee Simpson fan. It's probably some of her best work
What's great about it: Catchy songs

RESIDENT EVIL Makes for Great Halloween Fun
on August 30, 2009
Posted by: Animeboy413
from New York ' Ny
Ravenous zombies - what more could you ask for on Halloween? RESIDENT EVIL is chock full of monsters, blood, gore, and actually cool, creative decapitations. Based on a popular computer game (which I have never played), RESIDENT EVIL is an entertaining monster flick for a cozy evening at home. with you're love ones
now There's just something about watching a hot babe laying the smack down on anyone and anything that gets in her way - and no one does it better than Milla Jovovich. She is, to put it mildly, a whole lot of woman. Resident Evil isn't all about Milla, though; nor is it all about the gore (actually, the movie wasn't nearly as gory as I expected). Above all, though, Resident Evil is not to be dismissed as just another video game adaptation thrown haphazardly together just to make money. This film has substance, subplots, and surprises to go along with the generally impressive special effects and, for my money, pretty good acting. In other words, while the unfortunate denizens of the Hive may be essentially brainless, Resident Evil is not.
Don't expect Milla's character to supply you with any early answers, as Alice wakes up in a ritzy-looking house with no memory of who she is. Even the shocking jolt of a stranger claiming to be a cop grabbing her just before a team of commandoes suddenly crash through the windows fails to jog her memory, but she doesn't question the special ops commander when he tells her she is one of two security agents stationed in the house to protect that particular entrance to The Hive, the mega-powerful Umbrella corporation's top-secret, underground facility devoted to all kinds of dangerous and illegal research into bioweapons and the like - and that her amnesia is the temporary byproduct of exposure to a nerve gas. By the time she and the suspicious cop accompany the group to the entrance to The Hive, Alice has met her equally amnesiac "husband" and learned that the Red Queen, The Hive's central AI, locked the whole facility down and killed everyone inside in an effort to try and contain the super-deadly T-virus from spreading outside the complex. Their mission is to get to the Red Queen. It sounds pretty simple, what with everybody down there being dead and all. As they soon discover, however, those 500-odd dead bodies have arisen as blood-thirsty, flesh-eating zombies, and the Red Queen isn't going to let anyone into her inner chamber without putting up a fight.
The majority of the movie, to no one's surprise, consists of the team members trying to survive the onslaught of hordes of zombies, high-tech computer defenses of last resort, etc. As all of that exciting action is taking place, however, we see Alice trying to sort through the memories coming back to her in intermittent waves. She is a much more central figure in all of this than even she knows early on, and she isn't the only team member with secrets to be revealed. That leads to some surprisingly effective plot twists that not only advanced the story in important and plausible ways; they were also presented very much in the context of earlier scenes in the movie. i won't give away the ending. but The special effects are well done and the eerie score really adds to the atmosphere of the film. The picture quality on Blu-ray is excellent.
This is the first of three movies on the Resident Evil series. Resident Evil is a great movie about a virus that turns people into flesh eating zombies, once you get bitten you get the virus. This is one of the best Zombie movies out there, if you love Zombie movies you will love this move, great cast of actors also.
Impressively, the Blu-ray version carries over all of the bonus features from both the original DVD release and the later Deluxe Edition reissue. Much of the content is more impressive in quantity than in quality (indeed, many of the shorter pieces could have been combined into a single longer documentary for better effect), The Blu-ray has one exclusive interactive feature, but it doesn't add any new content.. Blu-Wizard – Rather than watch each featurette one at a time, Blu-Wizard allows you to select a series (or all) of them from a checklist to watch in uninterrupted sequence. You can also choose to view them during the movie playback. However, this is not a picture-in-picture function. The movie will pause and then branch out to each video segment
What's great about it: Excellence Zombie movie
What's not so great: Nothing

How is the game skate 2 for ps3?

i like Skate 2 so much more due to its added features!,

personally, i think that skate has better graphics. i also love how in skate 2 you can kick your board away in the air and move your body in different shapes to get the nastiest wipeout you can. Then you get money for crashing hard. So, if you want to go for graphics and basic tricks, get skate. if you want to wreck hard and do crazy tricks, go for skate 2. my personal favorite is skate 2.
