Wait for the $6.99 special

Those who read the Watchman have great admiration for the comic book. Good films have a meeting of the minds between the writers and CGI/special effects. This cinema is a classic example of what goes wrong when the writers are not clear in what they want to portray. CGI did their job. When I saw the film, I was surrounded by parents with their children...hense the nudity scene that was not called for. Yes, the parents should have noticed the (R) rating. Wasn't this film shelved before being re-acquired for production?
What's great about it: Excellent graphics
What's not so great: Didn't the original writer asked not to have his name in the credits?

Very good and predictable plot

The animation was taken from the DC Comic book plot. If you have seen Justice League: The New Frontier, you also witnessed Green Lantern's origions. This version also explains how Sinestro left the Green Lantern Corp and obtained the yellow lantern. As some of you know, Green Lantern cannot defeat anything that is yellow. However, there is a twist in this story. For you readers, I recommend the DC comic book saga: Blackest Night. If DC makes an animation film out of that series, it promises to be a blockbuster.
What's great about it: Typical DC Universe animation

Excellent reference guide for the motion picture

This is the original Transformers from the 1980's which had a serious cult following during that period. It finally developed into the motion picture that we know today. The story line is better than the current animated releases. If you want to understand the true origins of the Transformers, this is the series to purchase. There use to be a complete series edition, but it was discontinued. After reviewing this edition, you will notice the motion picture errors. Review the animated motion picture version too.
What's great about it: A very good 1980's cartoon

Excellent Western Movie

If you enjoy Westerns such as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Unforgiven and Open Range, then you will enjoy this film as well. Actually, the film is very similar to Open Range. Cowboys are moving horses (for sale) from one location to the another and rescues 5 women in distress. While tending to their horses and caring for the women, the cowboys run into problems while staying at "dead-end" town. The cowboys rescue another woman with a dark past and a man. A cut thoat posse is assembled to capture the problematic woman. The film is long but steady.
What's great about it: Excellent writting and directing

Excellent adult animation

I recommend seeing the first Afro Samurai before moving on to this sequel. The little girl in part one is all grown up and is seeking revenge against Afro for killing her family. Her brother is the dude in the teddy bear head who is still alive and has assembled a group of ninjas to kill Afro. It's one for the library collection. Another sequil may follow the Resurrection series.
What's great about it: Good story line

It is the animated version of Aliens. Very good story line. DVD extras show a sample of the video game which is creepy. Curse words are common in this film. Hopefully a sequel will follow.
What's great about it: Excellent presentation for the video game.

Excellent purchase-Not for children

Black Lagoon is a modern day pirate anime. The story line is very good. I recommend the entire series (6 DVD's) for your library. It is dark in nature and is graphic in language and adult content. If you follow anime, this saga rivals Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll and Spawn. I recommend purchasing this item on-line.

Fire Book is the best of the series
on July 23, 2008

The fire book left many unanswered questions. Nick may submit a 4th and final book. Note every book is based on the 4 elements. There is no Air Book. I recommend this series for the library.
Phoenix king Ozai is not dead. What happened to Azula? Where is Zuko's mother? Who is leader of the Earth Nation? Is Ang the last air bender?? What about the Order of the White Lotus? This series may not be over.
What's great about it: One of the best animations ever made.

More thought could have been placed on this dark futuristic anime. I love the title name. The story line is slow, confusing at times, and missing information that could have me this film much better.
What's great about it: Catchy name...that's it

A good purchase...if you can find it

WARNING! Adult content and a lot of cursing. This film is not for children. If you're looking for good animation, this is it. It is a very good modern day pirate series with lots of action and shooting. If you're into anime, this series is for your library. The first 3 disc are for sale but the production company, Geneon, has pulled this product and other films from the United States market. Hopefully, the other chapter will be released in the coming month(s). G4 is suppose to air the series soon.
What's great about it: Excellent anime & story line
What's not so great: adult content and bad language

This collection includes four animated shorts featuring fan-favorite DC Comics super heroes (Captain Marvel, Superman, Jonah Hex, and more) as they fight for morality and justice despite the best efforts of the villains who plague their mission.

"UN-original shorts" or "Used goods"
By Snogardfognik from Monterey, CA
It was listed as 63 minutes long but the title short was 20 minutes long. Then, at least two of the other three "original shorts" were already sold in other DC Universe Animated Original Movies. Jonah Hex was with "Batman: Under the Red hood" and Green Arrow was in "Superman/Batman: Apocalypse." In the extras/special features, they took selected episodes from Batman the Animated Series, Batman the Brave and the Bold & Justice League Unlimited.
The Superman/Shazam short was okay, but it was not worth paying the price of a regular DVD.
If this is the first DC Comic/Video that someone was to buy, it has a decent sampling of content. But for loyal fans, a majority of the content is a repeat. I feel cheated.

Superman/Shazam-kShort: The Return of Black Adam
February 2, 2011
I am in full agreement w/Snogardfognik from California. The origins of Captain Marvel is a really good story and should be reconsidered as a feature length motion picture. DC gave us a nice looking cover and stole our money. Producers skipped major plots for this story. They never went into the origins of Black Adam, the murder of Billy Batson's parents, or his orphan years. They did not explain the origins of the wizard Shazam or the homeless guy in the film. If you get a chance, read the origins of Captain Marvel. This DVD was thrown together. Wait for the $6.99 DVD special.
