Though Justice League Dark has an (R) rating, it's more PG-13 (FV). For those who watch animated films and anime, the following are rated (R) or (TV-MA) films: Todd McFarlane's Spawn, Black Lagoon, Ninja Scroll and maybe Samurai Champloo (harsh language). DC animators are best in the "cartoon" category while Marvel reigns supreme on the big screen. DC wants to be gritty and edgy but needs to understand that most of their audience are underage and wishes to be entertained. Batman: The Killing Joke was also (R) rated due to suggestive scenes but was nothing more than a hyped PG-13 film. Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League (The Series) were excellent shows for television. DC needs to remember what made them popular. To parents, remember, these story writers and animators are not children. Monitor what your children watch....
This action packed, 12 episode release from the Japanese produced animated series X-Men views the popular super heroes through an anime lens, following the mutants as they travel to Japan following the death of Jean Grey to pursue the U-Men, who are kidnapping mutants and stealing their organs.

I recommend Xmen, Blade, Wolverine, and Ironman in their 2 disc packages. Story lines are easy to follow and are similar to their motion picture format. The price is right.
What's great about it: Anime invades Marvel Comics
This collection of animated adventures featuring younger superheroes like Wonder Girl, Blue Beetle, Nightwing, and Batgirl, includes the episodes Happy New Year, Salvage, Before the Dawn, and others.

For those who watch the Young Jusitce series, Cartoon Network is pulling the show from their line up. The story lines are good but the writers also have too many topics to cover making the series inconsistant. The story setting is also in the alternate universe format (hence the character named Impulse). The story line places the viewer in a period when the Justice League is still forming their team. One of my favorite episodes is "Blood Lines". It is the introduction of Impulse and shows all of the Flashes in one story.... It would be nice if the producers created a Young Jusitce motion picture to neatly tie things up. I highly recommend the series.
The animation is still motion/manga. It reminds me of listening to a radio show with pictures as a guide. By listening to the plot, it is very interesting but not worth the money. The cover is cute. Don't even wait for the $4.99 special. You've been warned.
Another yarn about a young girl trained in the dark arts of war and seeks revenge on those who killed her family. Similar films are: Kick As, SALT, and Columbiana. Of the four, Hanna is the weakest. The alternate ending is also a yarn. Wait for the $4.99 sale. You've been warned.
Ip Man 2 picks up from the ending of Ip Man (Part 1). After the Japan invades China (Part 1), the British enter the picture. British boxing champion takes on the Chinese Masters to prove that Western boxing is better than Eastern Kung Fu. The film gives a quick nod to a very young Bruce Lee. They could have focused more on Yip's relationship with Bruce Lee. Donnie Yen gives an excellent performance. This film is not as good as Ip Man (Part 1)
What's great about it: Excellent continuation to Ip Man (Part 1)
Standard Superman yarn about his relationship with Lane and and Luthor. The Superman sagas work best with other superhero characters or a very good plot.
Note: the DVD may not work on some Panasonic systems.
What's great about it: Story line and graphics
What's not so great: DVD may not operate on some systems
One of the better DC Universe motion pictures of the series thus far. If you have watched the Justice League Series, you will be able to follow all of the characters in this film. It does have that comic book appearance. I recommend the 2 disc set. Disc 2 explains the Superman/Batman characters. Rated PG-13, so sensitive parents beware....
This collection includes four animated shorts featuring fan-favorite DC Comics super heroes (Captain Marvel, Superman, Jonah Hex, and more) as they fight for morality and justice despite the best efforts of the villains who plague their mission.

"UN-original shorts" or "Used goods"
BySnogardfognikfromMonterey, CA
It was listed as 63 minutes long but the title short was 20 minutes long. Then, at least two of the other three "original shorts" were already sold in other DC Universe Animated Original Movies. Jonah Hex was with "Batman: Under the Red hood" and Green Arrow was in "Superman/Batman: Apocalypse." In the extras/special features, they took selected episodes from Batman the Animated Series, Batman the Brave and the Bold & Justice League Unlimited.
The Superman/Shazam short was okay, but it was not worth paying the price of a regular DVD.
If this is the first DC Comic/Video that someone was to buy, it has a decent sampling of content. But for loyal fans, a majority of the content is a repeat. I feel cheated.

Superman/Shazam-kShort: The Return of Black Adam
February 2, 2011
I am in full agreement w/Snogardfognik from California. The origins of Captain Marvel is a really good story and should be reconsidered as a feature length motion picture. DC gave us a nice looking cover and stole our money. Producers skipped major plots for this story. They never went into the origins of Black Adam, the murder of Billy Batson's parents, or his orphan years. They did not explain the origins of the wizard Shazam or the homeless guy in the film. If you get a chance, read the origins of Captain Marvel. This DVD was thrown together. Wait for the $6.99 DVD special.
