Get this for PC only - avoid on consoles...
on January 3, 2019
Posted by: Namdnas
from TN
I got these headphones for my daughter because we got her a gaming PC for Christmas and she needed a good pair of "starter" gaming headphones - so I opted for these, as I use exclusively Razer-branded gear on my personal gaming rig. I also thought this would make a good pair of headphones for her use on PS4 as well. Not so much.
Let me start out by saying for PC use, these are "good". Not the greatest, but certainly not the worst. There are other PC gaming headsets that are far superior in this price range. I say this because the sound quality is very sub-par. The comfort is great though and we LOVE the retractable mic. Sadly, the mic audio quality for the person on the other end far surpasses the audio quality of the headset itself. Oh and even on the PC - don't bother listening to music on these... Yes, it's THAT bad.
These are too dependent on the Razer Synapse program on the PC to function. If you are gaming on a PC and use Synapse, that's great. You get the full features - the Chroma lighting, the simulated 7.1 sound, etc. However, for console use (PS4/Xbox one), don't bother. The USB dongle does not work. At all. It won't even turn on when plugged in. I had to plug the headset into the PS4 controller via the 3.5 mm jack. The lights on the side don't even turn on (as there's not power being supplied via USB). The audio quality via this method is HORRIBLE. Everything is such low-volume, even when maxed out on the in-line volume dial and on the PS4 itself. I get better audio quality with a $50 pair of earbuds. It's very sad.
So, because of this, I'm only giving these a 2-star rating. I was expecting MUCH better, given the Razer brand and the fact that a few of their other headsets are absolutely awesome. I honestly don't know what they were thinking with these - I wish they weren't so bent on forcing the Synapse integration. The audio quality is trash and the overall volume is pretty low. Console use is there, but may as well be non-existent. They should have marketed these as for PC only.
P.S.: The regular Kraken 7.1 V2 are better than these because they are USB powered but do not use the dongle and because of this, has the lighting effect on consoles - however, those cans have an issue on console as well with audio feedback, which I'm not going to talk about here.

Great battery life, designed for "spot" aches.
on December 31, 2018

We received the Hypervolt massager - I got it mostly for my wife, as she has issues with aches and pains in her back, shoulders and Sciatica.
From the feel of the box and everything included, as well as the overall design and sturdiness of the device, I definitely feel like it's a "money's worth" purchase. It works great for pains in specific spots and muscles. Unfortunately, nothing in the box or online that I've found explain the specific purpose for some of the odder attachments, like the pronged one. We mostly use the flat circular one and the rounded ball one. Everything works great though and the speeds go so fast, you can't even tell it's on or vibrating while holding it - which is great. I will say this brings the blood to the surface of the skin much quicker than most others I've used and I have to quit after about 15-20 min or so.
However, if you are looking for more coverage at once (such as for having someone do your whole back), this is not what you are looking for - it's very cumbersome for that. I do wish there was a head that provided a little more coverage - perhaps a slightly wider one. Especially given the asking price.
Additionally, the battery life is outstanding and we've yet to have to charge it since our initial charge.

Nice bluetooth adapter
on July 7, 2017
Posted by: Namdnas
from TN
To start short and sweet: Basically, this is a glorified bluetooth adapter to convert a wired headset into a bluetooth one. The included JLAB headset is just a nice bonus.
Overall, the packaging is really well done. Very minimum. Inside the top-open box is the headset and the neck band adapter. Underneath the blue plastic molding is a bag containing the charging cable. Instructions are also very minimal and is printed on the cardboard underneath, referring you to the manufacturer's website for the "full" manual and instructions.
Sound quality is pretty great and much better than I was expecting for the included earbuds. The earbuds fit great and secure, no issues there. The neckband bluetooth adapter is great, but with the silicone-type material it is made of, it tends to slip around at times. I almost lost it once because it is so light-weight, you can't even tell you have it on. It slipped down my back and the only way I knew it was because I still had the earbuds in and I felt a tug.
Sound quality of the included headset is also pretty good. Nice and loud when needed and I also noticed when talking to my friend, he said that he could hear way less background noise than he's used to hearing when talking to me. So, that's a nice plus!
Overall, my only complaint besides it slipping around easily is that the earbuds don't retract. Of course, with this being a 3.5mm to bluetooth converter, basically, that I can use ANY earbud/headphone with, I don't see how that would be possible anyway. It's nice to have the option to replace the earbuds only and to be able to use any brand, any quality headset I want. There is a padded area at the middle of the neckband where you put the excess cord of the earbuds to hide it.
I'd definitely recommend these, but ONLY if the neckband style earbuds are your thing.

One of the best non-mesh routers I've tried.
on May 15, 2017
Posted by: Namdnas
I received this item on Monday, 5/8/2017. I like to get my reviews in ASAP, however, due to my schedule last week, I wasn't able to hook it up and test it until later in the week. Then, as with any new router, I always like to give it 2-3 days or so to stabilize so I can test to see how it does after being up and running for consecutive days.
The packaging itself is pretty nice. It's a sturdy box with the black foam on the inside, giving it that "premium" feel of getting your money's worth. This is pretty standard fare, I've found, with most modern top-tier routers. Packaging was minimal, only a few loose folded leaflets, the necessary power cable and brick and ethernet cable. I did like that the antennas were already attached to the router and didn't have to be screwed on.
The router is very slick, very modern, but doesn't look "overdone" like some others I've seen that look like a dead bug, upside down. LOL. It has 6 antennas total, 4 on the sides and two in the back. Each antenna can be rotated and then tilted "outwards" into 3 different notches. Very adjustable and they feel very sturdy, not flimsy at all.
Setup had a few hitches. With this being a brand new router, I assumed that like the Velop that came before it, that Linksys was requiring the app for all new routers to be set up. That is actually not the case. I tried using the app to set it up, but to no avail. Then, after rebooting the modem because I didn't have internet, the Linksys screen finally popped up on my computer. From there, I was able to set up the SSID broadcast name, combine the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands into one SSID name, create the usual 32-character password for WiFi and sign into the Linksys account. Nothing too complicated, it's very step-by-step that should fair pretty easy, even for someone without a lot of home network knowledge. Also, it did automatically update the firmware on-the-spot and without fail. The firmware updates are set for automatic and this really does work. You do NOT have to worry about manually updating the firmware on these new routers from my experiences. It gets uploaded/updated to the router within 24 hours of being posted on their website.
As for performance, given that this is a single router system and not a fancy "mesh" network system like the Velop that Linksys released back during CES 2017 in January, I have to say, it has great coverage. After setting up and adjusting the antennas to the right pivot, I was able to eek out about 1,750 - 2,000 sq. ft. before hitting a dead zone. The ENTIRE house is covered, as well as about 90% of the yard. Checking speeds, even when about 25+ft from the router, we capped out on the internet speed (60MB where I live). All devices were wireless, except for the home PC, which consistently capped out at 66MB. For WiFi devices, we tried an iPhone 7 Plus, an older Galaxy S4, another Android phone from Straight Talk, and a Windows laptop. Given some of these devices used the 5GHz band and the older ones, the 2.4 GHz band, I was able to test the speed on a variety of older and newer devices, which all performed well. The 2.4 GHz devices did seem to taper off more at the same range as the 5GHz ones, which makes me believe that the 2.4 band doesn't reach as far as I'm used too, but that's OK. I'd much prefer having a really quality 5GHz band at the expense of the 2.4GHz range/quality...the older devices I have will eventually (and sooner, rather than later) phase themselves out of the household. :-)
After the "setup day" and leaving the router to fend for itself for a few days after, I've not had any issues with buffering on the PS3 device I tested (2.4 GHz band), the steaming stick or any other device. Performance thus far has been rock solid. The only time I rebooted the router was after the initial setup (which is usually a general rule of thumb to do, anyway).
I would definitely recommend this router to anyone, even for someone whom has never set up a router before. For the retail price, it's a worthy competitor to some other brands that I've owned before. I used to really dislike Linksys. After Belkin bought them out, I was even more leary of the brand. The first few routers they cranked out after the acquisition did leave some to be desired, but now, they are really rolling out the punches. I just really hope that Linksys continues with the firmware updates and doesn't abandon any of their newer (2017) routers soon, as I've seen this happen quite often in the past. They release a new product, support it for about 6 months or so, then abandon it.

An amazing little bluetooth speaker!
on May 8, 2017
Posted by: Namdnas
Let me start by saying up front that I have a minor hearing issue. I've got about 85% in my left ear and about 15% in my right ear. With that being said, my right ear is really only good for picking up bass. LOL.
I've used a specific bluetooth speaker for the past 5+ years and I still LOVE it. At the time I bought it, it retailed for $200.00 and is still to this day one of the best sounding bluetooth speakers I've ever heard. However, this Lifeproof Aquaphonics, for being their bottom-tiered model is AMAZING! I do what I always do when testing a new bluetooth speaker for the first time. I check vocal tones and treble through my most-used app, Twitch. With the streamers voice, game audio, music and such, it's almost the best of both worlds for testing purposes. While this gets nowhere near as loud as my go-to speaker, I don't expect it to. However, it's current volume is great for how this is designed and for the small size.
It passed the Twitch test great. So, I moved on to listening to music in Spotify. I listen to a lot of electronic style music (Infected Mushroom, Daft Punk, etc) and it sounds great there as well! This gets almost as loud at 3/4 volume as my other one does at 1/4 volume, which is saying a lot. My only nitpick with this, if I had one, is that it could use a little more bass. My wife tested it with some of her music (consisting of mostly current radio hits, lol) and she was really impressed, although she also noted the minor lack of bass as well.
The packaging is really nice and makes you really feel like you got something for your money. However, there was little in the way of instructions. Physically, my main concern with wear/tear on this device is in the charge port cover. Pulling it off of the port, which is attached by a sliver of rubber going to the inside, can be a little tricky. I was worried I was actually going to tear the rubber hinge while getting the charging cable plugged in. Also, the bluetooth button always stays lit and flashing while in use. I've not figured out a way to stop it. Not sure if it's continuously searching/pairing or what is going on - it's not really outlined in the manual that I could find. Outside of this, controls are easy and self explanatory and this thing really feels heavy-duty, like it can take a beating. For the price, I'd definitely give this two thumbs up and would even recommend it to others, especially if you are the outdoors type (pool parties, camping, whatever). It even has a built in hinge that you can use to hang it onto things, maybe even attach to a bike. It's designed to be very mobile and easy to handle.

Just OK...
on April 23, 2017
Posted by: Namdnas
So, my initial impression upon first use (actually hearing it) was...WOW. The packaging is very simple, but after opening, I was left wondering where the instructions were. Not finding them, I fiddled with the device, trying to figure out how to turn it on, remove the cap to charge, etc. Upon trying to remove the cap for the initial charge, I almost ripped it off. It's attached by a small piece of silicone/rubber. From the looks of it, you should just be able to push it off from one side with your thumb, much like opening a Zippo lighter. But I have to use both fingers and pull it up from one side.
After getting that done and out of the way, I put it on charge because I could not figure out how to turn it on, assuming it was dead out of the box (which is usually rare...most devices have some charge). While it was charging, I went to throw the packaging away and noticed a very tiny, folded manual hidden up in between the plastic behind the orange part that outlines the features and advertisements.
After letting it fully charge and reading a bit of the manual, I can say, the controls for this are way over-convoluted. To turn it on, I have to hold both the volume up and down buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds. Luckily, it went into Bluetooth sync mode automatically and I paired it to my phone.
Attached it to the collar of my shirt. It's a little weighty, so expect some uncomfort if you are using a regular cotton-style t-shirt. I started up Twitch, just to test the treble and voice quality. I was really surprised! I could hear it loud and clear with no issues (this is a big winner for me, as I do have a minor hearing impairment). Then I turned on Spotify and listened to a few songs. Music sounded equally as good, voices were clear and there was enough bass for such a small device. Pretty happy with it so far. And all of this was with the volume just a hair over half-way (which is also the suggested level according to the packaging/manual).
Given the quality of the voices I'd experienced between Twitch and Spotify, I was eager to really test the Bluetooth call functionality. Called my friend with it and...I could barely hear him. His call quality has always been spotty anyway, between his cell connection and his aging and run down Bluetooth headset. So, my wife called me on her way home from work. I couldn't hear her hardly at all...even after turning the volume up to over 3/4 of the way. I immediately switched it back over to my normal Bluetooth headset, with a sigh of disappointment.
Also, battery life is abysmal. It advertises 3 hours, but in reality, especially when using it some for calls, it's closer to the realm of 1.5 -2 hours. I'll stick to my "other" bluetooth speaker that I normally use for Twitch/Spotify when I'm at work. I may still use this some, but in reality, other than being in a quite environment, such as home, there is no way this can be used "as advertised" for the sporty person. Any amount of background/ambient sound will make the overall volume of this drop significantly.
Personally, I would not recommend this product. Save what you would spend on this, add a little more to it and get yourself a "real" dedicated Bluetooth speaker or, if you need something to take with you, a real headset. This idea is great on paper, but in execution, not so much. Had it had better Bluetooth call quality and better battery life, I'd be more apt to recommend this and I would maybe even use it more myself.

Great for iPhone 7 users who don't use Bluetooth
on January 11, 2017
Posted by: Namdnas
Ok, what we are dealing with here is pretty much a "limited use" adapter designed for a specific purpose. As we know, the issue with the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus phones is that there's no longer a 3.5mm headset jack. Which now limits us to using the single lightning port to both use a wired headset and to charge your phone, leaving it impossible to do both at the same time.
Enter this Belkin Lightning Audio + Charge Rockstar adapter. Barring the name, this is perfect for the specific use that it is made for. Basically, you plug the adapter into the lightning port of your phone (or iPad, or any device using a lightning port) and it works as a splitter, splitting it into two lightning ports. This allows you to both charge and listen to audio, as well as phone calls, at the same time.
In my testing, it worked flawlessly. I called my friend using the adapter and he said I sounded normal, no difference between having the adapter and not having it. So there's definitely no quality degradation in calls or music. I also had zero issues charging the phone. I used both official Apple lightning EarPods and Lightning cable, as well as an Anker Lighting cable for charging. Also, it doesn't matter which port the charge cable or the headset is plugged into. Inside the packaging, however, it does state to not plug two headsets or two charge cables in simultaneously. This should be a given, but I suppose they put that on there for their protection.
I have heard that some people cannot use the speaker while this is plugged in and on a call. I tested this and I had no issues. I was able to transfer from headset to speaker and back again, perfectly.
As far as aesthetics go, I would say that this is extremely close to Apple build quality, looks and construction. The cable between the adapter and the lightning plug is thick and very high quality. The Belkin logo is branded on both sides of the lightning plug that goes into your phone Because of the thickness of the cable, it is very stiff and doesn't bend freely. This could be a pro or a con, depending on your personal preference. I, however, felt it was a little TOO stiff. But to each their own. :-)
Why am I giving this only 4 stars then, instead of 5? Well, 3 things, really, First, this acts as charge and audio ONLY - so you cannot do data transfers via the Lightning cable through the adapter. Second, this, again, is a very limited use/specific scenario product. If you use bluetooth earbuds/headphones (or the new AirPods), then unless you plan on using wired at all, this is all but useless. Third, the price. At $40 a pop, this is way overpriced. $20 - $25 would be more of a "sweet spot". At the current price, however, I cannot recommend this unless you ABSOLUTELY need to be able to charge and use lightning headphones at the same time.

Great trimmer for beginners!
on November 20, 2016
Posted by: Namdnas
Ok, I want to start by saying that this product was provided to me by Best Buy (Tech Insider Network)/manufacturer for review. Therefore, my opinion of this product is completely unbiased.
My entire life, I've always invested in great tech...new phones, PC upgrades, gaming consoles, routers, streaming equipment, TV's, etc. I practice great personal hygiene, but honestly, I've never really invested much into "hygiene tech", such as personal trimmers and the like. I've always just used a regular razor and my wife trims/cuts my hair/beard, etc, for me (she used to be a hairdresser).
With that being said, maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but I went into using this with very low expectations. However, after having used it for the first time and trying most all of the features and attachments, both my wife and I say ...WOW.
I've enclosed quite a few pictures that shows off all the attachments, bag and accessories received (Edit - scratch that...Best Buy will only let me upload two pictures). Thus far, I have ZERO complaints on this trimmer. It only took about 15-20 minutes to full charge out-of-the-box. The first time I used it, it was on for approximately 40 minutes because I wanted to make sure that I tried enough of it to review AND to ensure that the battery did indeed last. I even used the Turbo mode. While I never had any moments in trimming my semi-beard down that it bogged on me, the Turbo mode was GREAT for getting through those "snaggy" areas. I tried the nose trimmer, detail trimmer, stubble comb and hair comb.
Everything on this trimmer is top-notch. I used the stubble comb (which all of the "comb" attachments slide over the main trimmer head and are slide-adjustable) to trim my beard down to maybe 1/2". My wife then used the hair comb to trim the sides of my head very, very low. I was really surprised to see how low it was able to go WITH the comb/guard on it. This is much better than even our electric trimmer! The nose hair trimmer worked great, although I did have some angle issues, which I'm sure will improve once it gets used more! I then took the combs off and used the main trimmer head to get my mustache area. I didn't have any "oops" moments during the entire trim session, either. Even my wife likes it and said she was thoroughly impressed with it.
My only complaint, if anything, was the manual. Being a n00b to this stuff, I wanted to read up on each attachment, how to use and how to clean. The manual is one of those poster-sized pieces of paper that you have to unfold about 8-10 times and you can never get it folded back the original way. Ever. I also wish the manual did a better job of explaining how to clean all the parts and accessories.
Cleaning: I noticed when I took the main trimmer head off to put the nose hair trimmer on that there was a lot of hair underneath the main head. I asked my wife how to get all of it out and she put the head back on, poured some alcohol in the sink, put the tips of the blade on the surface and turned it on. It worked great. Then, I later read in the paper manual to NOT use alcohol to clean. Ugh - had the manual not been made the way it was, it may have been easier to see this sooner. Not sure why this is the case, as rubbing alcohol dries faster than water AND sanitizes it. I understand not using alcohol on the plastic combs, etc...but why not the main metal trim blade?
So, my only complaint? Please just make the future instructions in a booklet-form (and Best Buy, please let me upload more than 2 images...). Other than that, this is a perfect and wonderful, easy-to-use trimmer product. I would personally buy this out-of-pocket, that's how much I love it and how impressed we are with it! I would try it in the shower, since it is wet/dry, but I don't really have need to. I may test it out later though and if I do, I'll update my review.
