One of the best for the office work
on July 22, 2022
Posted by: xKing
SteelCase is a leader in office furniture, I've been using their chairs for about 15 years, mostly the Think model and was excited to try Gesture.
Chair comes almost fully assembled, you just have 3 pieces to put together - base, piston and seat. Seat is pretty hefty!
Most adjustments are made using 2 knobs on the right side - first one controls the seat cushion depth (how close or far away from the back rest you want the seat cushion to be) and height of the seat, second knob controls the reclining - how far back you want the reclining limit to be (4 settings) and variable recline force adjustment.
Arm rests are easily adjusted closer or further away from the chair center and can turn left or right to match your elbow angle. Height adjustment is pretty fancy as the whole arm moves up or down by pivoting on it's mount point.
One point that I would like to make is that if you order your chair from the SteelCase direct - you can custom build it - for example fabric and base color, wheels for carpet or hardwood, add optional headrest, lumbar support (which this model does have).
Comparing to the Think model - I definitely prefer Gesture's arm rests - they can be adjusted closer to my body so my elbows can rest naturally. I did get my "Think" with a mesh back for a better ventilation though.
Would absolutely recommend trying the chair first to see which features you might want!

Flawlessly connected, Fiercely protected. Austere is moving beyond the primary function of providing power, to a place where performance, safety, and design come together to define what you should expect in power. Using our PureFiltration technology, Austere Power cleans noise and artifacts, that can travel through power lines and keeps them from impacting your devices. In addition, the Omniport USB provides rapid charge and protection for low-voltage devices. Austere also employs flameless MOV circuits and thermal protected outlets, keeping you safe from a home electrical fire. And if anything were to happen, our Component Guarantee promises to protect your equipment from damage, regardless of its value, whenever your devices are plugged into an Austere Power product. And because how it looks is as important as what it does, Austere’s proprietary aDesign philosophy elevates function through purposeful engineering and sleek design. Our surge protector power strips have a brushed aluminum housing, which creates an elegant way to power your home electronic devices. Always. Not all power is created equal. You may not know it, but your surge protectors can wear out over time. Joules–the protective layer of energy that defends your components–are finite. And when they are gone, it leaves your system completely unprotected from shock or surge. Traditional surge protectors only last a year or two so if you can’t remember when you last refreshed your home’s power, it’s likely time to do it now. And to take out the guesswork of when your Austere Power needs to be replaced, the blue protection shield icon on the Power unit will cease to illuminate once the Joules have been used. But that won’t happen for a long time because Austere Power is rated to last more than five times as long as most power products and guarantees to safeguard your system with our Component Guarantee.

Great looking power strip
on June 29, 2022
Posted by: xKing
We've all been there - just brought home a new A/V Receiver or that big screen TV with the soundbar, looking for a place to plug all the shiny stuff in and all we have is an old plastic power strip that sticks out like a sore thumb. No more of that - Austere makes this amazing looking surge protector that is a great match to that High-end Hi-Fi setup! Not only it has 8 outlets for the regular components, but also 3 USB-A and 2 USB-C ports for devices like Chromecast or Fire Stick (anything that normally comes with that sticking wall adapter that consumes a ton of space - you don't need that wall wart anymore, just use one of the on-board ports!). Side note - this model is not really meant to fast charge USB devices like iPad, in fact - plugging in iPad won't even work, ports are 5V only 2A max (6A total = 30W) and can't output 9V or 20V needed for a high powered USB-C loads. There is a step up model of this surge protector that actually does have USB-C power delivery port on board.
How well does it protect? Documentation says that it has 3000 Joules surge rating which is pretty high (good), and supposedly noise filtering is separate per each outlet, I could not verify that claim as it does not seem to be easy to open this device up for an inspection.
Overall - it's an amazing looking and feeling surge protector, if you have A/V geek in your family - this would be a superb gift for sure!

The most comfortable mouse for work so far
on June 24, 2022
Posted by: xKing
I spend a ton of time at the computer screen - easily 12+ hours a day and always looking for ways to improve ergonomics. This mouse is as close to ideal as it gets. Amazingly precise sensor that is tracking at 8k DPI resolution and able to work on most surfaces, scroll wheel with ability to unlock it for "free wheeling" and scroll thru huge documents and customizable side wheel, side buttons and a thumb button! Side buttons can be programmed for a standard Forward/Back in browsers to Audio Mute/UnMute + Camera On/Off in teleconferencing applications. Thumb button combines with the mouse movement so you can decide what happens when you press it and then move up, down and side to side.
Battery life is impressive - I've used this mouse for a week of everyday work - had not have to charge it yet. Charging is done via the USB-C port and allows you to continue working.
Software - mouse is configurable via Logitech Option Plus (not the older Logitech Options) and Options Plus is not compatible with the previous generation devices so you might need both until you upgrade all gear. Same goes for a receiver - it's a new kind (not a Unifying receiver anymore) so you may need both or just use this mouse in a Bluetooth connectivity mode.
Overall - I'm loving it, no wrist pain, super sensitive, comfortable and VERY quiet! No mouse click sound, but still have a great tactile feedback.

Power cleanup couple
on June 19, 2022
Posted by: xKing
I've been a Roomba user for about 15 years now and was excited to try this new WiFi connected version. Package allows you to take care of vaccuuming and mopping the floors, however software integration between two robots could have been a little better. For example - the only way to mop after the vacuum is to let Brava (mopping robot) start after Roomba (vacuum) finishes, there is no way to have them go room-by-room right after each other. Both robots do reference their own map and don't share (or don't seem to share) your house map between each other as each robot has to learn the surroundings by itself.
Individually robots are doing a pretty good job though!
Roomba (the vacuum) - seems to have a few troubles with a real thick carpet I have in the dining room (see photos) even with the majority of chairs removed - it tends to stop at the edge of the carpet and declare a "cliff" emergency asking for help. After manually moving the robot - it does not seem to learn the lesson and goes for the "cliff" again and again. There does not seem to be a way to block off the area of a thick carpet in the app. It does take Roomba about 6 (!!!) hours to vacuum roughly 1000 sq ft of hardwood and carpet are of my first floor so it takes multiple "naps" at the charging station. Cleaning quality is pretty good though and there is almost no mess to deal with - just replace the paper waste bag at the charging station when it gets full. Roomba does seem to bump a lot into walls and furniture though, I would probably opt for a higher model of Roomba equipped with synthetic vision and object recognition (like charging cords or pet waste).
Brava (the mopping robot) - machine has an on-board tank for the cleaning liquid (Bona is what is recommended) and a spray nozzle up front. It would spray the cleaner first and then wipe it out with a microfiber cleaning pad that is attached underneath the machine. It only has 2 wheels so 3rd point of contact is the mopping pad itself. While it's doing a great job on the hardwood floor - it is having a horrible time at the transitions between hardwood and tile (Kitchen area) and hardwood and tile just under the fireplace. While flooring surfaces are level - they do have a small transition which throws Brava sensors off. It either can't climb over a transition or is attempting it at 45 degree angle - goes about half way over but suddenly gets "scared" and reverses rapidly. That results in it unable to get back to it's charging station unfortunately and giving up on a job. I really hope it's just a software update fix as I really like the Brava.
Overall - it's a great power couple - but I would probably upgrade to a higher model if your home "terrain" is not easy to navigate thru.

Must have if you serious about crypto
on May 24, 2022
Posted by: xKing
Cryptocurrencies are entering our life rapidly and proper security is essential for a crypto success. Web sites get broken into, computers crash and get infected, phones get lost. How would you make sure your crypto stash is safe? This little device is meant to help with that. It's not like a flash drive to store your private key, it's really a small Hardware Security Module that generates your private key once and never lets it get out of the device itself, with the exception of 24 words security phrase that can be used to restore your access. This device will digitally sign your transactions (that your authorize by pressing both buttons on the device at the same time) but would never expose your key to the outside world so it can't be stolen.
What if you loose the device? First of all - it's protected by 4 to 8 digit PIN code that you setup as a first step and 3 incorrect attempts would wipe out the entire device (so don't give it to young kids unless you want to test your recovery procedures). However if it really gets lost or wiped out - you have to be sure that you stored that 24 word seed phrase securely (in a safe, deposit box, or other safe place). Don't store it electronically on your computer as if anyone gets this 24 word phrase - they essentially have a full control of your wallet.
Device is equipped with 1.29Mb of on-board memory that allows you to pick multiple crypto wallets to safely store (1 wallet takes from 50Kb to about a 100Kb worth of storage), there is no onboard battery (so it won't go bad or overheat in the sun), which means USB-C connection to a computer is required to operate your secure wallet.
Would I recommend going thru a hustle of setting up a hardware wallet? I would say yes if you are serious about crypto and storing any significant amount in crypto assets (tokens, coins, NFTs). Just make sure to store that 24 word phrase real good. It does make transfers a little less convenient (receiving crypto is not affected) - but it makes it almost impossible to steal crypto from you.

Very gentle water flosser
on April 18, 2022
Posted by: xKing
from DFW
I feel happy every time I have to use this water flosser! It has 4 different modes of operation - Deep clean, Regular clean, Massage and Sensitive. In addition to that pump speed can be adjusted by turning the knob to fine tune the power of pulses. Flosser makes a slight pause every 30 seconds during operation to signal you that it's time to switch to another jaw. Wand is held in place by the magnet when not in use so it's extremely easy to pull off and put it back on. Water tank is dishwasher safe (as well as wand tips) and easy to remove it put back. Feature that I like the most is that pump actually stops when pause switch is engaged on the wand itself, my previous flosser did not do that!
Three tips are included with the flosser - regular, gentle clean and "quad stream" - they come in a storage case, however I would recommend ordering extra tips if you sharing the water flosser with a family member.
Device operates quietly and can be used abroad as power supply is universal 110-240V, you'll just need an adapter to plug it in.
Overall - it's the best water flosser I've used so far!

Lightweight and precise
on December 15, 2021
Posted by: xKing

This is a "reboot" of the Logitech G303 Apex mouse (wired RGB mouse) that popular game streamer nicknamed Shroud used. As original G303 Apex was discontinued - Logitech decided to "reboot" is in a wireless form due to its newly acquired popularity. Were they successful? New G303 is a pretty solid choice! Just 75g with large PTFE feet - it glides over the surface with almost no effort, HERO sensor with 25k resolution is amazingly sensitive, sensor resolution can be changed on the fly using DPI change button on top. Button clicks are crisp and effortless, you won't miss your target because of the click motion. This is not a small mouse - it's medium to large size and works best with fingertip or claw grip. Side buttons are customizable in a Logitech G Hub software (software is optional, you don't have to have it, however it did find a firmware update for the Wireless Receiver when I first plugged it in). Battery life is advertised to be 145 hours which is pretty awesome, sounds like once a month charge to me, it's charged via USB-C port. Mouse is not compatible with Logitech Unifying receiver, it uses a new Lightspeed wireless system with 1000 Hz refresh rate, so you don't get any delay compared to a wired mouse connection.
Things to consider - this mouse is not customizable, there are no custom shells (the only accessory I see is a $9 carry pouch) for it or ability to remove battery for a lighter weight (I've seen 45g gaming mice!). And for some reason my side buttons don't want to work in Safari (they do work fine in Chrome and Firefox though).
Overall - great choice if you like the grip! You won't miss a shot with it!

Great sound, mobile, must have if you need a PA!
on December 5, 2021
Posted by: xKing

If you are a performer (indoor or outdoor), auctioneer, gym instructor, doing live presentations or just like throwing parties - this PA speaker if an amazing solution for you! It's portable (handle on top), only 15lbs, can be battery powered for up to 6 hours, can be deployed in a number of different positions - such as standing flat, standing angled up, on it's side angled up and pole mounted. Speaker senses it's position and adjust it's EQ (or most likely chooses which twitter to use) automatically to sound best.
Speaker has 3 input channels - 2 of them are 1/4" TRS/XLR balanced inputs with Gain, Reverb, Treble and Bass adjustment on each individual channel plus a special "tone match" feature that optimizes input for microphone or guitar if turned on. Third channel can be either a Bluetooth input or 3.5mm jack (headphone jack) input with it's own Gain control. Each Gain control knob has an LED that would blink red if gain is set too high (clipping).
Additional connections are - TRS (1/4") output of the mix (for daisy chaining speakers), micro USB socket for service and of course AC power IN (100-240V 50/60Hz). Speaker has a battery compartment where you can install Bose specific battery which would power the speaker for up to 6 hours.
I really like this small speaker's sound a lot! Bass is there even though it's just a single 6" woofer, mid range and highs are super clear and pronounced. Definitely give it a listen if you are in doubt!
Speaker does connect to the Bose Connect app for firmware updates and ability to pair 2 speakers for the "Party Mode". There is no EQ control in the app.
What could be improved? There is no master volume knob to control the whole mix, knobs are not lighted in any way so you do need some light source to see what they are set to, no mute/unmute or select buttons either (yes, I understand it's not a mixer). There is no automatic ducking (reduce music volume when you speaking, for example for a gym instructor). Battery replacement requires a Phillips screwdriver so it's kinda hard to do quickly. And the last one - there is no any power output, no phantom power ability for a condenser mic, no USB charging sockets for your phone, no power for a wireless system, speaker can power itself only.

Amazingly powerful for the size
on November 24, 2021
Posted by: xKing
from Frisco, TX
This charger is barely larger than Apple's original 5W charger that we all know, but it pumps out an amazing 40W! (2A at 20V to be exact). Power is shared between ports (so if 2 ports are used - top rating goes down to 20W per port). This adapter is a no-brainer for travel and can charge even your larger power hungry devices (like iPad Pro)! Check pictures for my power tests (and size comparison between Apple's 5W and 29W and Anker's 40W and 60W adapters), it easily put out 35W for my iPad. Helps reduce clutter too (one less brick)!

Works great with Macs as well
on November 15, 2021

If you are a laptop user who has a dedicated work (or game) desk - this is an amazing solution to get everything connected using a single cable. Just plug all your peripherials into the dock and viola - one cable to connect to the laptop, that's it! I've plugged in 2 Monitors (via USB-C to DisplayPort cables), Ethernet network and a few USB devices right in. Dock also has an SD card reader on board which is super handy for Mac Book users. Chroma underglow lighting is a very nice touch but unfortunately there is no Mac driver for it so it just cycles thru the colors.
Included power supply is 135W, with 100W available to power/charge your laptop via USB-C and the rest is available for anything you plug in. I did NOT need to install DisplayLink drivers as many docks require, in fact it works with MacBook out of the box.
Couple minor things:
1) Underglow is pretty bright, so it's not ideal for bedrooms (if you leave it on).
2) It's kinda weird that Ethernet port is just 1Gbit/s - I hoped it would be at least 2.5Gbit/s or even 5Gbit/s.
3) There are no USB-C ports available on the front of the device, I do like a front facing USB-C port for the wired headset.
Overall - nice dock, does what it says it will do, no weird hangs, disconnects or any other issues.

Great travel companion
By xKing from Frisco, TX
This laptop would be a great travel companion. Screen can be folded all the way to the back making this laptop a big tablet, Windows recognizes it as a "tablet mode" and adjusts the interface so that's easy to use that way. Tablet mode is a great idea if your space is limited such as a car or an airplane. That is if you don't mind wiping your fingerprints off the screen later.
Overall construction is very nice and solid, aluminum top cover and plastic bottom make it easy to hold and it does not get real hot to the touch while working. Bottom is fairly easy to take off (philips screwdriver and plastic prying tools needed) allowing access to the single memory slot and a hard drive (watch for hard drive - it will fall off when bottom cover is off). Laptop has a good selection of ports (including HDMI, 2x USB 3 and a USB-C!) making it easy to connect to the accessories you need. Hardware volume control paddle is located on the right side of the laptop almost next to the power switch - I actually send laptop to sleep couple of times while trying to adjust the speaker volume, so be careful.
Screen resolution is a full 1920x1080 HD but the space under the screen (where the Acer logo is) feels unused - I wish Acer did extend the screen to the bottom a bit more. From the beginning - my laptop had a very noticeable green tint to the screen which I had to correct using the Windows color calibration tool - no issues after that.
Keyboard and the touchpad are functional and easy to use, keyboard is backlit (either on or off, no brightness adjustment).
Battery - I was able to use laptop for 4 full hours watching videos, surfing web and working on the documents before battery fully drained, it took it 3 hours to charge back to 100%. Included 45W power adapter is surprisingly small and easy to pack, supports any voltage from 100 to 240 so overseas travel is not a problem!
Performance - I did not notice any delays while working with the big office documents, 8 Gb RAM (upgradeable to 12Gb) and i5 CPU have more than enough for any office tasks, however I would recommend upgrading to SSD if you require a lot of disk activity.
Overall - great laptop for those who work on the go and need a good selection of ports at the workplace, strong performer!

It's really comes down to your personal preference. HP you've mentioned has a smaller 13.3" screen, but a solid state drive will perform better. Acer has a bigger screen but a slower mechanical hard drive.

Physically - any 2.5" SSD drive will fit. It really depends on your budget and how much storage would you like to have. I personally use Crucial drives.

Finally an Android tabled designed for your car!
By xKing from Frisco, TX
This tablet would be a real good option for those who want just an Android tablet in the car, it mounts hassle free with the included mount. I used the "bean bag" as a base and suction cup attached to the bean bag.
Tablet has a magnetic attachment at the back that takes care of the electrical connections as well so all you need to do is to place the tablet on the mount and that's it! No wires to plug in!
Physically it's a very well made device with rubberized back which makes it secure in hand, screen is bright and I had no problem looking at it with my polarized sunglasses on.
It has micro USB port for charging / data transfer, micro SD card slot, mini HDMI port and a 3.5mm sound output jack.
Mount has a full size USB port, 3.5mm sound output jack that you can connect to your car's AUX input and a power port, that connects to the standard 12V DC or 24V DC cigarrete lighter outlet. Optionally - you can screw in an included FM transmitter antenna to the mount, so it will output sound to your car's FM receiver.
Hardware volume control, power switch and a home button are on top of the tablet, buttons are easy to operate while the car is moving.
Unfortunately this tablet does not have a built in modem so if you would like to connect it to the Internet while on the road - you will need to have some kind of WiFi in your car. This kinda defeats the main product slogan of making any car a connected one, you will still need to provide your own connection. I've used a mobile WiFi hotspot for my test.
Included apps:
Navigation - I liked that one, it comes with the lifetime Map update, directions are clear and easy to follow, speed limit is displayed for major roads and you could optionally setup a notification for when you are over the speed limit for X number of MPH. No school zone alerts though.
Online functions include gas prices (by GasBuddy), traffic and weather - all of these require tablet to have an active internet connection. Weather could be useful when planning your route while pulling a trailer for example, so you could avoid windy roads. Mount does have a very good GPS receiver built in so when tablet is on the dash - you will be getting a strong GPS coverage, however if you take the tablet off the dash - it will turn into "Waiting for GPS signal" mode without a clear sky view.
Dash Camera - well, it requires you to mount your tablet so it's back camera is acting like a dash cam but that means you have to position tablet vertically, aim camera on the road and make sure nothing is in front of it. I've tried using it and while picture quality is good - frame rate is not, it's more like 15 FPS which makes passing cars look blurry. You would also need to start the Dash Cam recording every time you start your car since it would automatically stop recording every time you turn your car off (and tablet looses the external power). During my tests I've found that included mount is pretty shaky and it makes a camera recording pretty shaky too. There is an option to record sound, but no way to put current date/time, speed, GPS coordinates on the record.
Collision waring - unfortunately it was showing "calibration" and was never able to do anything, I suspect it may be due to the position of the front facing camera in my car. In addition to that - you can't launch the collision warning app AND a dash cam app at the same time - they would complain that camera device is used by the other application.
Backup Camera - it requires you to purchase an optional backup camera kit from Rand McNally, I did not have the kit for this test.
Tire Pressure and Temperature monitoring - again - that's an optional accessory (4 sensors and a receiver module) that is sold separately.
I see this one being very useful for the trailers, so you always know your trailer tires are ok.
Car Diagnostics - that is really a DashCommand app that is available for the purchase and requires an optional OBD II reader accessory which is sold separately.
Other pre installed apps include Rand McNally app store, Road Atlas and trip planner.
Besides pre-installed apps - tablet comes with the choice of 3 external app stores you can install: Amazon App Store, APKPure and Aptiode. Google Play Store is not available by default but you can put it on manually. After that - you are free to download anything you like, about 18Gb of onboard memory is available.
Overall - it's a great hardware with a lot of options, hassle free mount and connection to the car, but included software needs some work.

Well, it did install, but you are correct - Google Services App is crashing. I suspect it needs a little bit more that that, probably a GAPPS package, just need to find a way to load it. I will post here if I will be successful.

Great for beginners, easy and plenty of features!
By xKing from Frisco, TX
This is a great receiver if you just getting into the home theater, plenty of features, 6 HDCP 2.2 compliant HDMI inputs, 7 on-board amplifiers make it a great choice!
Setup is extremely easy and detailed wiring instructions are available in the manual as well as on-screen guide, you could get it all setup in less than 30 minutes.
There are the biggest advantages:
1) Great streaming capabilities - receiver supports Apple AirPlay, Google Chromecast Audio (it could be also controlled with Google Assistant) and Spotify (premium Spotify subscription is required). AirPlay support includes synchronous playback in multiple rooms.
2) Receiver supports all existing High Definition Audio formats - DSD, DTS-MA, Dolby ATMOS, DTS:X
3) Very easy automatic speaker setup and configuration.
4) 2 zones are supported, this receiver can power total of 7 speakers at the same time, so if you enable zone 2 - your 7.1 or 5.1.2 speaker configuration would become 5.1
5) great networking options - Ethernet or WiFi connections supported
6) Bluetooth could work in transmitter mode! This means that you can stream music from your receiver to the bluetooth speaker or headphones!
Few negative points:
1) First and the biggest one - this receiver is not as powerful as many would like. First thing I do when I consider a new receiver - I flip it around and look at the power supply rating, this receiver states 240W. Let's assume 30W of power is needed for receiver itself and pre-amp, which leaves just 30W of power available per channel if all channels are driven. That is not enough if you have big tower speakers, however if you only using bookshelf speakers in the small room - it could work for you. User manual does not list power rating for 8Ohm speakers, only figure you see is for 6Ohm 2 channels driven at 0.09% THD and receiver would supply 100W per channel. But where are the figures for 8Ohm? This is not unique to Sony, most of the receiver manufacturers tend to over inflate power ratings. Ideally I would like to see power with 0.09% THD all channels driven into 8Ohm.
2) 4Ohm speakers won't work with this model
3) If you have a turntable - you will need to use it's own phono pre-amp or external phono pre-amp, this receiver does NOT have an internal PHONO pre-amp.
4) Manual EQ settings are almost non-existent - you get 2 sliders: Bass and Treble, no actual frequency bands. No EQ settings for the subwoofer channel at all.
5) Receiver is a little sluggish to react to it's own remote, there is a noticeable delay between button press and reaction.
6) No pre-amp outputs for the main channels, only for zone 2 and subwoofer
7) Included remote is fairly simple and central arrow keys seem to rattle.
Overall: this Receiver would work great if you use it with small bookshelf speakers and you like things to get setup automatically for you. However advanced users may want to look at the different model.

Sorry about the confusion, what I meant to say - the receiver is great if you just getting into Home Theater, but it lacks advanced features. Talking about my friends - I would recommend them a different model because I would be able to help them further with the system configuration, therefore advanced model would work better.

I have two floors, Can I buy a second charging station for bringing it upstairs so I don't have to also bring the charging station up and down? will it work with two different charging stations?

it has an ability to select different maps (for different levels) so I would say yes!

The only purifying fan to clean a whole room properly*. We design our purifying fans to go beyond test chamber conditions and focus on real home conditions – this is more than just having an efficient filter.*Dyson engineers and research concluded that to clean an entire room properly, you need to sense pollution events automatically; capture ultrafine pollutants; and project cleaner air around the room using Air Multiplier technology. Only the Dyson purifying fan is designed and tested to do all of this.**Dyson technology helps create a cleaner, healthier home - Our vacuums and purifiers are scientifically proven to capture particles as small as allergens and bacteria.

How often do you need to replace filters

Machine has indicators of filter life, mine still show 100% (separate indicator for fiberglass and carbon filters). I guess it really depends how often it runs and how much contaminants it removed.

Ask Alexa to turn on the lights and music with this ecobee Switch+ smart switch. Its built-in speaker lets you access Amazon Alexa with voice commands, and it automatically turns off a light bulb at sunrise or when no one’s in the room. Control this ecobee Switch+ smart switch remotely from your iOS or Android device.

Do you need to have certain ights in your home for this switch to be compatible? For example, Phillips Hue LED lights or will it work with a regular floodlight or GE incandescent bulb? Lastly- How many lights can one switch control?

This switch can control up to 600W incandescent or 150W LED/CFG of regular lights wired to the switch directly. You can also use Alexa integrated in this switch to control any number of other smart lights that are Alexa compatible (Hue, LiFX, etc)

Nest Protect reliably detects and alerts you to the presence of smoke or carbon monoxide in your home. The alarm speaks to you in a calm, clear, human voice, telling you the location of the danger. It also provides smartphone alerts and battery status updates to help protect your home. This hardwired version is suitable for homes with existing hardwired smoke or CO detectors.

Will it connect to a Samsung Smart Hub, plus possibly the Samsung ADT Security system? I had the orginal Lowes IRIS Security System, but now considering getting a Samsung Smart Hub since it does work with my RING Video Doorbell.

If samsung hub works with nest cameras - yes, Nest Hello would show up as a regular Nest Camera.

Nest Doorbell (Wired) lets you know who’s there, so you never miss a thing. It replaces your existing wired doorbell and delivers HD video and bright, crisp images, even at night. It’s designed to show you everything at your doorstep — people head to toe or packages on the ground. And with 24/7 streaming, you can check in anytime. Or go back and look at a 3-hour snapshot history to see what happened.*

Does this have simultaneous 2-way audio, or do you have to press a button to talk? I have the August doorbell and you have to push to talk and it works terribly.

Yes, simultaneous 2 way audio, no buttons to hold
