Why Don't You Own This?
on September 23, 2008

These guys need no intro. Like it says on the debut Boston album: "Listen to the record." You'll find the power of Mountain colored by the grace and passion of Jack Bruce. "The Doctor" will cure any need of blistering hard rock, and "Pollution Woman" will wrap you in her ethereal and psychedelic arms. An avid fan would be wise to track down similar releases like Jack Bruce "Out of the Storm" or Leslie West "Mountain."
What's great about it: the cream of 70s rock and roll
What's not so great: short band lifespan

Young Gods should be Everythere
on September 22, 2008

If someone is looking for futuristic, unpredictable, and breathtaking music than look no further. I won't insult you or the band by trying to describe the sounds contained within but I would say if there was a disco on a space station revolving Jupiter in 2169 AD then this should be played there---loudly! Favorite track "Everythere" (spelled incorrectly above in track listing).
What's great about it: best Young Gods yet
What's not so great: need to tour North America!

A Fistful of Nephilim

FOTN unleash a powerful blitz upon the listener w/Dawnrazor... a CD quite different from their later and darker releases. Expect quite a variation from soaring tracks like Slowkill and Reanimator to the dirge and doomy Vet... and the megalithic title track. Love the nod to Sergio Leone as well w/samples from "Once Upon a Time in the West."
What's great about it: mystical and guitar driven 80s goth-psych
What's not so great: Blue Water single not included

Album of Domination
on September 17, 2008

this album set the course for metal torch-bearers Judas Priest. the cover art is iconic, and the music is bone-crunching yet artistic and varied. several songs are alltime classics: The Ripper, Victim..., Tyrant, Genocide....but don't overlook the hidden gems--Island of Domination, et al
What's great about it: groundbreaking heavy metal album

Meant to be played LOUD

Out of the ashes of Spirit Caravan comes this muscular hard rock/metal beast. This CD may have the roughest/toughest bottom end going...including the rasp of David Sherman on vox. Seek out their 1st one---"Taming the Demons", too.
What's great about it: Woofer-straining rockin doom

Though Night Gallery may not have found the unchallenged success of television legend Rod Serling's previous small-screen endeavor The Twilight Zone, it still gave viewers plenty of chills and a reason to leave the lights on while enjoying a nice little fright. When it was announced that Universal would be releasing the complete first season of Night Gallery to DVD, fans were up in arms at the lack of bonus materials offered by the powerhouse studio -- and even if the release does seem kind of bare-bones, one would be hard pressed to complain about the quality to which the episodes here have been restored. Each episode is presented in 1.33:1 full-frame and looks absolutely fantastic. In addition to offering well-balanced colors and even skin tones, the image is sharp and free of any visible debris or digital artifacting. Closed captioned English Dolby Digital audio is evenly mixed, with little evidence of auditory distortion and optional French and Spanish subtitles. Though there may be no bonus materials to keep fans glued to their screen until the wee hours of the morning, the episodes provided on this collection will certainly keep them awake until long after the credits have rolled.

The Rod Serling Zone
on August 25, 2008

This series is the perfect follow up to The Twilight Zone--both from the mastermind of Rod Serling. Where would sci-fi TV be w/o Rod??? There are some eerie moments that will chill the most jaded viewer out there! The stories are drawn from some of the best writers and authors in history---HP Lovecraft, etc etc
What's great about it: Creepiest series ever?
What's not so great: Rod S. R.I.P.

Excellent American metal that compares to other bands who have the talent to play it heavy, doomy, and w/a deft touch of melody. Fans of Sabbath, Penance, Cathedral, Saint Vitus--check it out!
What's great about it: solid 70s influenced doomy-metal
What's not so great: need a new cd soon!

Still Built to Destroy

Mr. Schenker unleashes an assault attack w/this one, and he's armed w/some singer buddies from the past: Barden, Bonnet, et al. There's a fast, urgent pace thru the songs. The listener may be tempted to crack open a few Bavarian ales & raise a toast to this platter of high-powered hard rock. Definitely one of MSGs best in some time.
What's great about it: features several legends on vocals

Worth the Risk

Ratt delivers a 10 pack of classy hard rock w/this one. The songs flow perfectly, and like any great album it can be played repeatedly w/new-found classics among the lesser known cuts. Locate their other 80s stuff: Ratt EP, Out of the Cellar, Dancing...etc.
What's great about it: 10 cuts of razor sharp rock
