The musical genre known as Krautrock is a unique brand of progressive rock born out of Germany. In this release from SPV Recordings, half-a-dozen of the best-known Krautrock bands perform before a live audience. Krautrock Meeting features such songs as Epitaph's "Tequila Shuffle," Amon Düül II's "Green Bubble Raincoated Man," Guru Guru's "Living in the Woods," Birth Control's "Just Before the Sun Will Rise," Karthago's "The World is Like a Burning Fire," and Peter Panka's Jane's "Out in the Rain."

fans of these 6 bands can attest to the limited video & film footage from their heydays...decades after their formations we get a unique gathering of the groups for this 2DVD set. you get the axe-attacks of Epitaph & Karthago, the fusion of Guru Guru, the space-rock of ADII, Jane's prog rock, and the evil wall of sound of the mighty Birth Control.
What's great about it: rock royalty assembled on 1 stage 30+ yrs on
fans of early 70s muzik like Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Ashra Temple, Guru Guru, Popol Vuh, Amon Duul II, etc should aquire this CD. contained are some unknown but creative bands from the same early 70s scene....the hazy focus is on instrumental passages and winding ethereal progressive flights
What's great about it: unearthed diamonds from land of ze Black Forest

of course everyone knows Ram Jam for the big hit w/"Black Betty" but their 2nd LP which makes up the later 1/2 of this CD is a blistering set of heavy rock tracks that amaze w/hindsight. seek out band-fan author Martin Popoff's writings regarding this mystery band. a tragic tale of what might have been
What's great about it: only 2 albums by the band on 1 CD
this live CD wrapped up this version of Y&T. they deliver a cool cross-section from their career up to that point and skip the light-rock of "Summertime Girls" MTV fodder. HIghlights are the opening knuckle sandwich of "Mean Streak" and the overlooked but brilliant "Struck Down
What's great about it: no frills CA rock n roll
What's not so great: "farewell" concert which led to hiatus for group
another exciting film from Brazil that is a breath of fresh South American air to the cop/action genre. the slums of Rio are where only the Skulls dare to tread...watch this along w/Lower City and City of God and you'll see a side to Brazil that Barry Manilow has yet to write a song about
Olaf and comrades unleash a guitar driven metal flurry w/their 7th release. fans of Malmsteen, Firewind, Jorn, TNT, etc should check out At Vance. some of their earlier CDs feature the voice of Mats Leven, noted metal singer
What's great about it: Olaf Lenk--mad axeman
What's not so great: gets no cred in North America
Burt and crew offer 2 discs of no-nonsense Canadian rock for you here. I hear "Star Baby" and "Clap for the Wolfman" on the radio once in a while but the rest of the unsung tracks on these 2 albums are strong and classy. The band plays w/a road (food?) tested confidence...turn this up and crack open a Canadian ale to toast some found classics!
What's great about it: nice reissue to 2 lost albums
Ringo Lam's City on Fire, often credited as one of the strongest influences on Reservoir Dogs, comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. There are no subtitles on this release. There are no extras of any consequence. The film looks and sounds great, but purists may complain that the dubbed-only soundtrack makes this a less than wonderful release from Disney/Buena Vista.

for fans of the 'shoot-em-up' movies perfected by John Woo and Ringo Lam...other than the brutal, thankfully short lounge singer spot this film is 99% solid...the scenes are well filmed and the action is vicious--one can spot the influence on Tarantino and Michael Mann's Heat (street battle w/cops). hail, hail Hong Kong!
What's great about it: classic Hong Kong action film
these guys had a short but bright career in the misty days of the early 70s. thanks to some classy reissues Pink Fairies can now be enjoyed in proper CD format 30 years on...for fans of blood-brothers Hawkwind, old Motorhead, Krautrock, Neon Rose, Stooges, MC5, original Alice Cooper Band, or any other the gritty Detroit 70s bands.
What's great about it: one of the few 'originals' in the music biz
What's not so great: North American FM & satellite radio can't ponder playing creative music like this
here's some tasty guitar-led German rock from Kraan...they've been at it since the 1970s and prove their mettle in 2001 w/this live CD. 99% instrumental...sits nicely beside Guru Guru, Ozric, etc. Kraan puts out some good vibes and energy that's a stark contrast to a lot of the stuff that's out there now.
What's great about it: Germans show what a 'jam band' is all about
What's not so great: North American FM & satellite radio too chicken to play Kraan
