Really good monitor
on March 14, 2023
Posted by: InspectorGadget
Great gaming monitor. I've been gaming for a long time since it first started (video games that is: Pong, Space Invaders, etc.) so I've seen a lot of monitors. I thought my old one was good but this one is even better. It's a bit pricey so you should expect it to be good and it is.
Has the usual inputs and outputs you probably expect: 2 HDMI's, 1 display port, 2 usb in, 1 usb out, and audio output. No built in speakers but most gamers likely have good speakers or headphones that are probably better than built in monitor speakers anyway but the audio out gives you a good source (hdmi) for your speakers. I also like the usb ports since I mostly use gaming laptops with external keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc. and laptops never have enough usb ports. (I used to build my own desktops but the tech evolves so quickly by the time you select and install components it seems like they are already outdated.) I can connect my mouse and keyboard to the monitor and use the usb out to my laptop and at least save 1 usb port on my laptop.
My first use had mixed results and left me a bit frustrated. I tried my 4 year old hp spectre with it. It's not really a gaming laptop but I use it a lot for internet and other applications and it already has a 4k display so I wanted to compare this monitor with the built in display. At first it looked really good and performed well but when I enabled HDR on the laptop the samsung monitor went blank and said no signal detected. When I went back to try to disable HDR the option was no longer available. The only way I could disable it was to use battery power which disables it to save battery life. It works fine now but only when using the battery or duplicate displays. I tried pretty much everything I could think of but it still has this issue with this particular laptop (?). Weird but seems to be some compatibility problem. Not really a big deal though since this monitor is mainly for gaming and this laptop isn't really a gaming computer.
So I decided to move on and try my gaming laptop with some games to see how it performed. It did really well especially on 4k with the higher refresh rates. I love the curved screen for gaming, it seems to really draw you into the game. I think most gamers will feel the same way. The mini-leds seem to blend into continuous lines and curves rather than individual pixels. The colors are bright and great shading. I did make a few adjustments to the settings in the menus which helped make it pop a bit more. I also avoided the temptation to turn on the hdr manually in windows to prevent a repeat of my experience with my hp laptop. I usually keep the hdr off on my old monitors anyway since it would disable many of the other options when turned on. Many games which support HDR have the option to leave it on auto which lets the game decide when to use it.
The stand is big so you may need to clean up your desk to make room. I suppose it's because the monitor seems a bit heavy but not too bad. The buttons for the menus seem a bit awkward but are manageable and the menus are pretty well laid out with a lot of options. The extra lights are nice and can be customized or turned off if you prefer.
Overall it's a pleasant experience which gave my gaming a boost (and makes me want to keep gaming even more). If you want to take your gaming up a notch get one.

Good upgrade
on March 4, 2023
Posted by: InspectorGadget
This is a nice upgrade at a good price for ddr4 users. Some of the newer laptops are starting to use ddr5 which is faster but most laptops are still using ddr4. Be sure your laptop uses ddr4 since ddr5 is not compatible with ddr4. The slots are different. I'm pretty sure that 3200Mhz is the fastest speed for ddr4 so this will be plenty fast. It should also work fine at slower speeds if your system won't support 3200Mhz.
Also be sure your laptop has two ram slots that can be swapped since many have one or more ram sticks soldered in making them unavailable for upgrading. Many have just one slot that can be upgraded but since this is a 2 pak you would probably be better off just getting one. But if you do have two slots that can be changed out then this is a good upgrade for more ram.
If you're thinking you may need more ram then you probably do. Most games currently don't use more than 16GB but that will likely be changing sometime soon. Also if you're running a game that uses nearly 16G and want to open an app without quitting the game you may be a little short. 32GB is great for multitasking and also you can open many many tabs in your browser without hurting your performance. I used to limit my number of tabs because when I opened too many they would slow down considerably and often malfunction. After this upgrade I purposely opened a lot of sites at once in my browser and they ran fast and reliably. It didn't seem to matter how many, they all worked well.
My laptop seems a bit faster now too. It's a few years old hp spectre with i7 and the old ram (16GB) was 2666Mhz so this ram is faster. I wasn't sure it would support the faster speed but it does. I thought it was pretty fast already but now it's really fast and fewer hiccups.
Crucial has been around for awhile now and I have used several of their products with good results. None of them have failed me yet.

Good

Good nose and ear hair trimmer. Mine works well and pretty fast compared to the others I have used in the past. It seems as I get older my nose (and ear) hairs are growing faster and longer and thicker. Kind of gross but that seems to be the way it goes for most men. Seems to be made mainly for men but I suppose if women have nose/ear hair issues it should work well for them as well. I guess that's why the brand name is Manscaped.
Seems a bit smaller than I was expecting but in a good way. It fits in my hand better than my old ones which were bigger. Also takes less space in the medicine cabinet or in your bag when traveling.
I really like that it's cordless with a rechargeable battery. Uses a usb-c port for charging and even comes with an ac adapter and cable and nice box. No bag or case included though which would have been nice. Also could have used a cap to cover the blade tip but they seem to have forgotten that as well.
Mine cuts well and is pretty quiet which is good if you're trimming your ear hairs. It's so quiet that at first I thought it still needed charging but no it's just that quiet. I didn't notice any hair pulling just a slight tickling feeling. I cuts well enough that I was done in less time than my older ones and did a better job.
I didn't realize how weedy my nostrils had got till I used this and now I can breathe through my nose much better. Maybe fewer boogers as well.

Good hearing aid from Sony
on December 28, 2022
Posted by: InspectorGadget
Very nice over the counter hearing aid. Maybe not for everyone but a great option for those with moderate hearing loss. They certainly work well for me since I'm beginning to have some trouble hearing as well as I used to. I especially like that they are ITE (all in the ear) with nothing hanging out behind your ear and don't interfere with my glasses (yeah, my eyes are getting weaker too). It makes them almost invisible and they just look like earbuds if you do see them. I've never had prescription hearing aids but I'm pretty sure these are much more affordable than doctor visits and filling prescriptions for hearing aids that I may not even like or use.
These are actually pretty comfortable once you get used to wearing them. You may even forget you have them on. They come with different sizes of ear tips so you should find one that works well for you.
They seem well thought out and are a pretty polished product as you might expect from Sony. I also really like the charging case with Qi wireless charging. It's small and can easily be carried in your pocket (also comes with a usb cable for charging). The led's are on the front of the case so you don't have to open it to see if they're charging. There are 3 lights, one for each earpiece and a 3rd for the case itself. Battery life seems quite good as well.
The app is pretty good too. All of the manual controls are accessed through the app, the earbuds don't have any controls on them. But they do adjust automatically for changes in the environment. They also turn off automatically when you put them back in the case. You can accept their default settings which try to fit your needs or adjust them manually.
If I had one complaint it would be the lack of support for android users for music and phone calls. I'm not an apple fan and have only had android phones but not really a big deal for me since I don't normally use earbuds with my phone anyway but still it would be a nice option. Not sure why they favor apple with this feature but maybe they could add android users in the future.
I have used Sony products since I was a kid (I'm in my 60's now) and they have always been quality products.

Good stuff!

I would probably give this camera 4.5 stars since it's not perfect but it is really good. I love that it's completely wireless with rechargeable battery and wifi. This allows you to use it almost anywhere as long as it's in range of your wifi. I put mine outdoors with a view of my carport and driveway as well as my kitchen door leading out to the carport. It's near the ceiling of the carport so it's high enough to not get stolen without a stepladder but using a ladder I can easily remove it for charging.
Good features and included 32 gb sd card for local storage; subscription available but not required. Supposedly accepts up to 128 gb card but I think 32 is enough for me at least for now. Not sure why you would need 128 gb unless you're making home movies with it.
2k resolution for good detail. Battery supposedly lasts up to 3 months on a charge so you shouldn't have to charge it for awhile (maybe it will be warmer in a few months). Light, siren, two way talk, color night vision, pretty much all you could ask for at this price. Kind of wish it had a removable battery so you could have a spare charged up rather than having it down while charging. One of Swann's solar chargers supposedly works with it but you'll need a sunny spot near it's location for that.
Overall for ease of installation, features, and price it seems like a good choice. I may get another one or two for more coverage.

These are my first set of hearing aids so I don't have much to compare them with but I do like them. They seem to be priced in the mid range as some are cheaper and some are much more expensive. The Bose name is a definite plus in my opinion because of their reputation in quality speakers and audio equipment. I also have a few other Bose products which certainly support their reputation.
I have recently noticed my hearing isn't as good as it used to be though it seems to vary sometimes. I also have tinnitus which these don't directly address but they do help me hear other things better which seems to make the ringing from tinnitus less noticeable. I don't wear them all of the time but when I leave the house it's nice to wear them to help with conversations and generally hear what's going on around me. They are also great when watching tv so I don't have to turn it up so loud and disturb others. I occasionally play guitar and keyboards and they help with that too.
They are pretty tiny so keep them in their case when not wearing them or they may get lost easily. I like that they are rechargeable so you don't have to keep a pile of batteries around to be sure they'll work. Usb recharge but mine didn't come with the adapter just a cable. I was afraid they might interfere with my glasses but they really don't. They are pretty comfortable once you get used to them. You can get longer or shorter wires for them if the ones that come with them don't fit. Has a measuring tool to see what length of wires you may need if the middle sized ones don't fit right. You can get one size free if you order within the time frame specified.
They seem more affordable than prescription hearing aids and the free app lets you choose from preset modes or you can create your own profiles and save them. The app is pretty simple to use and also adjusts volume, balance, and adjust for more bass or more treble but not both. It's a slider with treble at the top and bass at the bottom so it's more bassy or more treble.
I'm not sure if your insurance will help you with the purchase since there's no prescription so you may want to check on that. I personally hate going to the doctor and dealing with filling a prescription and possibly ending up with something I don't like and may not use. These I like and will use.
I wish they included the ability to listen to music from my phone or the ability to talk on the phone using the bluetooth but that would probably add to the price. The bluetooth is only for adjustments in the app (at least for now).

Good camera with good lights
on December 20, 2022

Pretty good floodlight camera. Has a lot of features but unfortunately like most new security cameras nowadays it requires a subscription for many of them to function. But it is still pretty useful even without a subscription. You can get many useful functions without a subscription at least for now though Wyze may try to sell you one in the app from time to time. They offer three different subscriptions starting with a basic one and better ones for more money. Without a subscription you can still receive notifications when something triggers it but it only saves about 12 seconds of video. You can also view it live to see what's currently going on and speak through it. The light works well too.
Easy to install if you have an existing fixture you just want to replace. The wired portion is just for power, the camera connects to your wifi wirelessly. Be sure to turn off the power at the breaker so you don't get a shock. If you don't have a fixture in the location where you want to install it you'll obviously need to run some wiring to it which is much more complicated and may require some to hire an electrician to install it. I used it to replace my light on my back porch and the lights work well to light my backyard. The camera watches the approach to the back door of my house. I also have a Wyze doorbell camera at my front door. They both work well so far and give me a greater sense of security in my home.

Good headset, useful for music, phone, and gaming, etc. I have seen better ones but they cost a lot more.
I must admit my initial impression once I got them out of the box wasn't great. They appear very casual at first, almost cheap quality (almost). But that might be part of their appeal. They kind of appear more business like rather than for entertainment.
At first the sound didn't seem that great but I always say that most speakers require a break-in period before they reach their full potential and that was the case with these as they certainly got better after some use. They seemed to get a little louder and the bass and treble got better. I also tweaked them some which may have had something to do with it.
Comfortable and lightweight. A bit bulky but not as bad as others I have tried. Nice microphone which works well and folds up out of the way to mute when not needed. Also has a mute switch on the mike if you don't want to fold it up. Apps available for pc, android, and iphone allow you to configure it as well as an equalizer to customize the sound. The equalizer helps but I prefer to use the ones in my music apps which seem more effective. Bluetooth only for connection, no dongle but you can use them while charging. Logitech does have others which include a dongle but cost a bit more. Comes with a storage bag and usb c charging cable but no ac adapter. They come packaged on a cardboard stand with the bag and cable stored in the base. I will certainly save the stand and use it to keep them on when not in use.
Not much documentation included, you'll want to download the instruction guide from logitech. Simple controls and easy to pair. Seem to have good battery life and charge fairly quickly.
If you can afford better ones you might want to spend more and get something better. But if you're on a budget or just looking for a second set for casual use (or for at work) then these are a good choice.

Not 1080p but still nice.
on October 19, 2022
Posted by: InspectorGadget
It's a nice projector for the price. First it's not really 1080p, Epson's documentation says its 1280 x 800 which is actually less than 1080p contrary to what Best Buy's specifications say. That being said, it still has a great picture on my 84" screen. A 1080p Epson will cost more. Just because a projector says it's 1080p doesn't necessarily make it better. I have a slightly cheaper 1080p projector from a different brand and this Epson still has a better picture. I wish it was 4k but a quality 4k projector would cost two or three times the price of this one. This one fits my budget much better and looks good enough for me at least until the 4k ones get a little more affordable. Epson obviously has better ones for sale but at higher prices.
Plenty bright, I use eco mode as the brighter mode seems almost too bright. Eco mode uses a quieter fan setting which you can barely hear and also extends the life of the lamp. If your room is really bright you may want to use the brighter mode. My room isn't that dark but it may be darker than yours. The colors seem pretty bright too with several modes as well as custom adjustments you can play with.
I like to watch bluray movies but so many newer movies are so wide nowadays that a lot of the top and bottom of your screen is left blank wasting much of your screen size. This projector has several screen modes and two in particular help to make better use of the screen by using more of that space. One mode simply makes the image a bit taller without really seeming to alter the image and the other completely fills the height of the screen by cutting some of the sides of the image. I prefer the first method since it doesn't actually cut out any of the image but still makes it look much bigger.
I do have a nice LG 4k tv but it's only 55" and it's great for tv and gaming but for movies I prefer a much bigger screen. My space and stand won't allow for a much bigger tv but I added a cheap 84" pull down screen which hangs from my ceiling just a few inches in front of my tv to watch movies on. That's really about the biggest screen I could fit without obstructions blocking it. It works out pretty well. If you have a large blank wall it will likely work well especially a white wall. Mine has windows and my tv so I had to get a screen.
This projector doesn't seem that portable and no lens cover or carrying case included but I suppose you could carry it around if you're careful. Only one hdmi port so if you plan to use several hdmi sources you'll have to swap them in. Also the built in speaker is kind of weak for movies and no audio out jack but I usually connect the source (bluray player) directly to my surround system anyway for better results.
If money is no object then get a 4k projector. But if you're on a budget or just a tightwad (I'm a little of both) this is a quality alternative to get you into projectors at a reasonable price.

This is a pretty nice smaller air fryer with your basic digital functions. I like the smaller size since I usually only cook for one or two people. I already had a much bigger air fryer which was 8 qt but it took up a lot more counterspace and wouldn't even fit inside my kitchen cabinets. It may be better if you are cooking for more people but I rarely do. This one fits much better and I can put it inside a cabinet if I want. The smaller size also makes it easier to clean since it fits in my sink much better. I don't have a dishwasher so I have to wash it by hand. It also seems to cook faster probably in part due to the smaller size.
This leads to the question of whether it might be best to have two air fryers, a big one to cook for more people and a small one for less. This seems like a good idea to me especially since I already had the big one. I've been storing my large one in my oven since I rarely use my oven and it's the only place it will fit. This new smaller one sits well on my counter without taking too much space. You may want to put something under it since the instructions say the feet could stain your counter. That seems kind of ridiculous since most of us will keep it on our counter; they should try a different material for the feet but oh well just try to find something suitable to keep it on.
It cooks pretty well, about what you expect from a fairly basic air fryer. The presets are accessed a little weirdly, you can't just press on them to select one you have to scroll thru them with the arrow keys. Not a big deal but something to be aware of. Highest temp setting of 400 should be enough for most dishes. Not a lot of accessories included, just a crisping tray and 4 silicone cupcake cups but I think most air fryers don't have many accessories included. I don't expect to make many cupcakes in it but they could be used for other things as well.
Seems like a good choice if you want a smaller air fryer. A bit pricey but not really more expensive than most good ones. I wish it had a window so you could see the food without opening it but that would likely cost more. Try to get it on sale and I'm sure you'll like it.

Good game.

The game is really really fun to play 2 players against the computer once you unlock the characters by earning points. It does play a little bit clunky (for example sometimes a player will get hit up and be in the air for way too long). Overall a really fun game, if you love anime you'll probably love this.
