Complete grooming kit with a powerful shaver
on August 16, 2018
Posted by: Keyan
The Philips Mutligroom 9000 kit is the most complete grooming kit I have seen for home use. The kit comes with a vast number of combs and different cutting heads for different purposes. The heads include a precision blade, wide blade, medium width, nose, body, and even a shaving foil. All of these are packaged in a nice rubberized case to keep the kit together either in your cabinet or on the go.
The combs come in a variety of sizes, all of which are clearly marked. There is even an adjustable one if you want to pack for travel and don’t want to take all of the parts with you. Some of the combs are for the wide head, and others are green and marked for body. The two body combs are the same depth as two of the face combs, but are a different color so you aren’t using the same one on your face as you may be using for other areas of the body.
Cutting performance is excellent with the blades cutting through hair cleanly without any pulling or pinching. The stainless and rubberized body of the shaver is the perfect size and shape for me to have full control while shaving. They also resist clogging when cutting through dense hair. The variety of combs and shaving heads mean this one body can do everything you might need.
Couple of quirks – the shaver body says it is a 7000 series, and so do the directions, but the kit is listed as a 9000. I would assume this is due to either a marketing change or a way to delineate that this is the ultimate kit with a huge number of blades and combs. The other thing I found odd was that the charging cord feels very stiff, almost like plastic. It’s not supple for flexible at all, and given the quality of the rest of the kit even down to the case, it feels oddly cheap. Hopefully it lasts and does not fail as the shaver will be useless without it.
Overall, this is a complete kit for someone who is interested in shaving hair on the face, head, and body, and would be a great tool for someone who feels that in order to sell the house you have to trim the hedges.

Great sound, simple to use, nice build quality
on August 11, 2018
Posted by: Keyan
The Logitech Pro headset is a no-frills headset focused on sound quality and long wear comfort. Suitable for PC or console gaming, the headset provides excellent sound quality with minimal distortion, even during heavy action.
The headset comes with a long 6.5’ (2m) cable with an in-line volume wheel and mute slide toggle. The cable is an extremely high quality braided jacket type that is very flexible and should last for a lot of travel and use. It also comes with a Y cable if you need to break out the cable for a microphone input. For my use I don’t need a cable this long, when using it off of an Xbox controller for example the cable is very, very long. It would have been nice to have a cable wrap or even Velcro to manage the cable, sadly all that is included is a twist tie. I put mine in a cable turtle and that keeps it nicely under control. The rest of the box includes the detachable boom mic and a set of micro suede ear cups if the leatherette ones aren’t to your liking. The mic is not a flip up to mute type, you have to use the slider toggle on the line or a software control to mute.
As this is an unpowered headset, some features from powered headsets will need to be done with apps or your console. The volume wheel controls all of the audio coming into the headset, so you will need to manage game to chat ratios and mic monitor using your PC or console. Also, there is no active noise cancellation with this headset. On the positive side the lack of a battery makes the headset light and it is always ready to go. It does a good job of sound isolation without full active noise cancellation.
The build quality feels solid, with a soft touch finish on the ear cups, deep memory foam ear cups, a band that is steel and easy to adjust, and a pretty strong clamp to the head band. I am glad the ear cups are deep – with the clamping strength it would be uncomfortable with thin pads, but as it is I found it to be very comfortable to wear this headset for as long as I wanted to keep playing.
For my testing on the PC, I did a mix of music and games, and the headset performed well at both tasks. Music was well balanced and games were clear and important sounds were easy to pick up on.
I also tested this headset on an Xbox One using the headphone jack on the controller. This also worked well, with some games that are known for positional audio such as Overwatch really sounding great using Dolby Atmos for Headphones (more on that later). Voice comms were also clear. Other games like Skyrim were really detailed, with the harsh cling of weapons being drawn and the boom of spells detonating being well relayed. Even soft sounds such as the quiet whisper of a conjuration spell being equipped were clear and easy to pick up.
One thing to note with the marketing for this headset that kind of bothers me – the headset by itself is not surround sound. As it is an unpowered analog headset it has no surround processing. You need to use a software surround virtualizer like Windows Sonic or Dolby Atmos for Headphones to get virtual surround sound. Windows Sonic is in all current Windows 10 builds and the Xbox One, Dolby Atmos for Headphones can be purchased optionally and used on up to 10 devices PCs or Xbox consoles. If you don’t have a software option for surround sound, you are left with stereo sound.
Overall, this headset features excellent sound and build quality and a price point that is on target for an unpowered analog headset of this type. I would recommend it for a gamer or someone wanting to get a better sound experience than cheap headphones or ear buds.

Good no frills gaming mouse
on August 4, 2018
Posted by: Keyan
The G305 gaming mouse by Logitech is a no-frills entry level gaming mouse for people who want to use the latest sensor technology but don’t want to pay as much as the premium gaming mice. The mouse is wireless only and uses a replaceable AA for power – which is handy as it is easy to get it going again when the battery dies. Logitech advertises a very long battery life for this mouse using their newest sensor technology and there is a low battery indicator that tells you to swap out the battery when it does get low. One note – you must download and install the Logitech Gaming software to use all of the features of this mouse.
As far as performance, this mouse performs well. The up to 12,000 dpi sensor technology in the G series optical mice is impressive, and honestly I would recommend anyone who spends a decent amount of time in spreadsheets or especially diagramming using a mouse purchase a gaming mouse for those uses as well – the high quality sensors make those jobs much easier.
One limitation on this mouse is the number of buttons. With only two side buttons and no horizontal scroll, you are limited to 6 buttons. One nice feature though for Logitech G mice is the ability to map one button to “G-Shift”, which allows the other buttons to perform a second function when the shift button is also held down. I personally map the mouse wheel button to this function, and then map the other buttons on the mouse to other things I use regularly.
For ergonomics, this mouse is pretty compact and can be used in either hand, although the side buttons are kind of awkward for lefties. It’s actually a great travel gaming mouse – not too bulky or heavy, and completely self-contained with a slot under the back for the receiver to go.
I would recommend this mouse for a PC user who wants to step up the sensitivity of their mouse, for a gamer on a budget, or for a gamer who wants a compact option to pack with a laptop for travel. The lack of buttons is a limitation on this mouse, but the sensor and the simple battery replacement are both nice features.

Excellent Keyboard for users who want feedback
on August 4, 2018
Posted by: Keyan
The Logitech G513 with GX Blue keys is a mechanical keyboard built for gamers or for people who really want a satisfying and noticeable mechanical click and feedback from their keyboard. The keyboard is compact for a full sized keyboard targeted towards gamers – no extra rows of keys on the sides or along the top, which along with the metal deck and raised keys makes this a very clean and non-pretentious gaming keyboard. The RGB lighting is great – vibrant and with a huge number of customization options to meet any gamer or keyboard enthusiast’s style.
The keyboard is heavy and sits firmly on your desk surface, perfect for intense gaming and it exudes quality at every turn. The thick braided cable (with a split to optionally connect to your PC to enable the pass-thru port for a gaming mouse or other accessory) should last for lots of LAN parties or just daily use. The keyboard also has swing out feet if you want to incline the deck. The G513 also comes with a memory foam wrist pad and extra keys with a key puller if replacing keys or moving them around is your thing. Both the wrist pad and the key puller/keys are missing from the less expensive G512 – if those are important to you then the G513 is the perfect choice.
The keyboard is extremely responsive (Logitech advertises 1ms response time) and I could not detect any issues with inputs using it normally. It is possible when quickly cycling a key to release and actuate it again without the click by not letting the key travel all the way back up – but the results are inconsistent, most presses are registered while a few others aren’t. This isn’t the normal use case for the keyboard but if you are a gamer who likes to very rapidly tap/cycle a key you should be aware that the keys can respond in this way.
For gamers, the F keys can be remapped and macro/custom keys assigned using Logitech’s G Gaming software. Just be aware that it has no dedicated G keys, the F keys are the only option. For some this may be a plus – as I mentioned before the keyboard is very clean and sophisticated, but for others who want dedicated keys for those functions there are other options by Logitech and the other keyboard manufacturers in the market.
The G513 comes with three key options now – the Romer G keys have a no feedback silent key and a tactile bump feedback key option. The GX Blue keys (which the keyboard I am reviewing has) are new to the G513. They provide both a very solid tactile feedback and a distinct click as they are pressed. This keyboard is loud, there no doubt about it. The key clicks are louder than a mouse click and if you bring this guy to a LAN party or to a gaming convention they might chase you out. If you have housemates in a smaller space the result may be the same. In my den with a door it’s not a problem for the rest of the family, but be aware that this keyboard is loud and mechanical sounding. That said, the feel of the keyboard is great. They tactile feedback and the sound make for a very satisfying typing and gaming experience that has been lost with many cheap membrane keyboards over the years. Gamers should note that the key press force and the travel distance for these keys is higher than the Romer G options – for those who feel that a light key with short actuation distance gives them an advantage then this may not be the best option.
Overall, this keyboard is great if a solid mechanical feel and sound is what you are looking for in a keyboard. The features and style are excellent, and I am really enjoying using it.

Huge, but does what you expect it to do
on June 28, 2018
Posted by: Keyan
The Philips Airfryer XXL is an excellent air fryer that prepares crispy food quickly and easily. Like all other airfryers, this one uses convection to make food crispy. Unlike a traditional convection oven, the airflow is faster and more focused, and the food is held suspended on an open grate above the bottom of the cooking surface, allowing air to flow all around the food quickly. As the food warms up, the oils in the food are released into this airflow and excess is captured in the bottom of the fryer, which then coat the food and "fry" it, giving it a crispy texture.
Philips has an advanced airflow system that allows for a very even cooking of food in the fryer. This model has two analog dials, one for temp and one for time, which can be set in seconds and you are ready to go. There is no preheating required like a traditional oven, and the rapid convection airflow makes it cook faster than traditional oven baking. I found a reduction in time of about 1/3 over oven baking things like tater tots and chicken nuggets, at a slightly lower temperature. There is a guide included to help give some directions on cooking temps and times for various common items. Since the food is held up by a thin grate, you don't need to turn it to get the entire surface of the food crispy, although if the basket is full (like a pile of tater tots or fries), you will need to cook for half of the time, open it up, and stir the contents over a sink (to allow small particles to drop there instead of into the fryer, where they will burn and smoke) to ensure that everything gets crispy. I would also suggest that if you are loading breaded or food with small particles to load it over a sink and gently shake the basket to get those particles out before starting to cook. Doing this left the fryer very clean after cooking. When it comes time to clean up, it can be hand cleaned easily or all of the removable cooking parts can be put in the dishwasher, although they take up quite a bit of space.
Speaking of space, this model is huge. It says XXL, and they mean it. It’s larger than an Instapot. This is designed for a family or household that is feeding multiple people most of the time. Just be prepared to make space for this thing on a counter or in a storage area when it’s not in use.
Overall, this airfryer is excellent with space to cook a variety of foods. It works well and is easy to use and clean up.

Easy to use Espresso maker
on June 25, 2018
Posted by: Keyan
The Nespresso Lattissima One is a compact machine designed for coffee drinkers who want to be able to focus on espressos and other bold coffee flavors at home. It is not designed to fill your big hot drink travel mug for your morning commute, but rather to provide densely packed flavor in small cups, or espresso shots to add to your favorite morning brew. This machine is also equipped with a milk foam system that takes skim dairy milk (sorry Vegans and people with dairy intolerance, it isn’t designed to work with vegetable milks) and creates a hot milk foam for a cappuccino.
Overall, the machine has a nice design aesthetic. It comes in a box that contains one sample pack of pods, the machine, and assorted documentation. I would suggest reading the directions as they explain how to set the system up, flush it for first use, and how to manage the fresh milk system. It is very compact, sitting easily under the cabinets with plenty of clearance on top to use the machine. Since the maximum cup size is under 4 fluid ounces, the smaller water tank on this unit will last for several cups before it needs to be refilled, which is an easy process as the water tank comes off easily and stands on its own. As machines like this are prone to scaling (the build up of deposits from hard water) I would suggest using distilled water in the machine. This also leaves the flavor of the espressos unaltered by the flavor of your local water.
The espressos from the machine are bold and dark, which is what you are expecting from a machine dedicated to small cups. The sample pack has flavors from balanced to very strong. The machine makes an interesting cut pattern in the pods where you can tell it’s using an immense amount of pressure to extract the contents. Which leads me to a comment about the machine – it’s loud. For such a small machine that exudes a sophisticated design language, the pump is pretty noisy. So loud it woke up my kids (or so they claim), which makes it hard to use in the morning when people are generally trying to get a cup of coffee going. The milk system is part of the machine that is less common on household machines and it quickly makes a hot froth that is dense and very nice for a home machine. The final product won’t quite meet the pictures on the box, but it does a good job. Cleaning it is another matter though. The entire milk system has to be taken apart and either washed in a dishwasher or soaked for 30 minutes in warm soapy water before being rinsed out. Since many of the parts are small using a dishwasher basket or just hand washing the parts is a good idea to avoid parts falling into the bottom of the dishwasher. Pulling the system apart, especially the nozzle, is rather hard and I feel like I’m about to break it before it finally comes apart.
Overall the Nespresso Lattissima One is a compact, well designed machine for those coffee lovers who want to be able to brew espressos and small cups at home. The milk froth option allows for more options and is a feature that is less common on home machines. Two drawbacks hold it back from a perfect rating though – the machine is loud and the milk system is a bit of a hassle to pull apart and clean.

Best Smart Watch Around
on September 23, 2016
Posted by: Keyan
The Apple Watch is still one of the best smart watches on the market. Even though the design is a bit thick and square, the watch is great. It has a lot of processing power and functionality in a tiny package. The new CPU and GPU make the watch very responsive. Making it swim proof was a significant feat of engineering for an electronic device with buttons, a rotating crown, speaker, barometer, and microphone holes. It means you can keep wearing and using the device in more situations. The addition of a real GPS receiver combined with one the ability to load a playlist on the watch means you can travel light on a run, although the lack of cell capability still means you need your phone in case you trip on the path or want to take a call or have data service.
The display is bright in all situations and very high resolution. The sapphire crystal display should be very durable over time, and its higher reflectivity vs the glass in the aluminum watches is offset by the added brightness.
The finish on the black stainless steel is one that is a bit of a matter of personal taste. For some it's too much dark on dark, even though a lot of other fitness/smart watches are similar. Over time the coating may scratch and show the bright steel underneath, although if my understanding of the process is right they get the color by coating the steel in carbon that aligns itself in a diamond-like pattern on the shell, which should actually make it harder and more scratch resistant than the polished steel. I have a Seiko watch that used a similar coating on part of it, and that part still looks new while the polished part shows several superficial scratches.
The band is the sport band - it barely fits my wrist, I am on the last possible hole, but I am also not a small person and I wear my watch back on my wrist a bit. It doesn't breathe much either but it's easily cleaned, durable, and comfortable.
If you are looking for a full time fitness and sleep tracker this may not be the best option - while so far the battery has held up well (still about 35% after a full day of heavy use as it's a new toy), you won't be sleeping in it as it needs to charge overnight and it has no sleeping tracker. The one pro is that if you are really into that kind of sleeping tracker then you can get a basic one without a display or smart features....but you have to wear it along with the watch which is pretty crazy.
Overall, the Apple Watch just got better, and if you have Apple devices, this is the one to get. If you are looking for a full time sleep and activity tracker this may not fit the bill, but if you want a fully featured smart watch to extend your phone on to your wrist this is the one to get.

Great...except for Bluetooth features lacking
on August 14, 2016
Posted by: Keyan
The latest revision of the Xbox controller has several subtle improvements to the already great Xbox one controller. The textured grip offers a nice feel, and the clean black and white theme isn't terrible either. The buttons and sticks all work well, none of them feel cheap or have weird mechanics. Don't kid yourself though - the Elite controller still sits atop the Xbox One controller offerings as the best controller you can get for one.
One feature that caught my eye was the addition of Bluetooth support for use on Windows 10 PCs. This is a nice feature so you don't have to use a wire or the Xbox wireless adapter to use the controller...unfortunately I was kind of let down by it in practice though. After initially pairing to my PC, it was fine, but after powering it down and then back up it was connecting and disconnecting constantly, with the searching slow blink going until finally it gave up and shut down. It seems that the available firmware update fixed that issue - but you have to know enough about Xbox controllers to know to use a micro USB cable to your PC, and then open the Xbox accessories app to install it. Or you can pair it to an Xbox One and update over the air, but you need to have one available to do that.
What was really disappointing to me and what is costing it a star is the lack of features over Bluetooth. The headset jack does not work. Neither will the chatpad. It works as a controller, but that's it. No audio, no chatpad, so you are either using a wired headset to your PC, a gaming wireless headset, or using speakers. Bluetooth headsets usually have to much latency for gaming, so you are really limited on your options when using Bluetooth.
When using a USB cable or the Xbox wireless adapter all of the features and peripherals work as you would expect them to, but part of the marketed appeal of the controller was being able to use it wirelessly without a dongle. While that does work, not being able to use any peripherals on the controller is a significant limitation.
Overall, this is the best of the non-Elite controller lineup and a nice revision to the Xbox controller line...sadly the Bluetooth is very limited on a PC, to the point where you may still want to use a wire or the dongle to get full features.

Well rounded solution for a variety of uses
on July 28, 2016
Posted by: Keyan
This monitor is a good solution for someone who enjoys different types of games, but also wants an excellent monitor for desktop applications, video, and photos. Some monitors have faster refresh rates or response times, but many of them use a TN panel instead of an IPS panel. TN panels are known for their ability to get a deeper black than an IPS (which have what is known as IPS glow, a faint backlight bleed through due to the physical design of the panel) and their ultra fast response times and high refresh rates. They have drawbacks in color accuracy and the vibrance of colors, as well as viewing angles. That makes a TN panel a better possible solution for very dedicated first-person shooter players who value every frame their video card can make. For many users, a monitor that functions well for several different applications makes more sense, and this is where an IPS panel such as this one shines.
This display does have some gamer-centric features, such as multiple input options, a crosshair overlay, FPS counters, and timers. It also supports AMD's freesync technology which aligns the screen refresh with the final rendered frame from the video card. I'm a little disappointed this display doesn't support Nvidia's G-sync technology as I am driving this monitor with a GTX 1080, but it's also not a deal breaker feature for me as I'm not fretting over getting every single frame out of my video card. If I were, I would have chosen a high refresh lower resolution display, such as one of the Full HD 144hz TN panels. It also has easy access to several presets that are defined for various game types.
The menu system is easy to use, with a small joystick type controller and several dedicated feature buttons around the back right side of the display. The buttons alternate in a triangular shape, which makes it easier to know where you are when sliding your finger down between them when controlling the display. The stand also very flexible, with integrated height, tilt, and rotation to fit a variety of people and situations. It also has integrated cable management for a clean look.
The picture quality on the display is great. Text in 4k at this PPI density is sharp and edges are perfectly rounded. Pictures and video really pop at 4K on an IPS panel. It's great for digital photography work as you can see so many more pixels off of a high megapixel DSLR, it's like looking through a window into your photograph. Another perk for photo/video editing is that it has a preset for sRGB, which is very accurate out of the box for working with photos that will be going to print.
In games with rich color pallets, such as RPGs, the IPS panel also shines with vibrant and dynamic colors that really immerse you in the game. I noticed no tracing or other signs of slow pixel responses on the display. The matte anti-glare finish on this display worked very well in my sometimes challenging den to minimize reflections.
Overall color uniformity is very good as expected from a modern IPS panel, and I only noticed a slight variance in brightness on the bottom corners when looking at the center of the display (if you move your head to be level with the corner the variance goes away), which is expected with an edge lit IPS panel, and is much better than others I have seen. Under normal usage conditions (not solid gray screens) it's not noticeable at all. All pixels on this display appear to be working, I wasn't able to see any dead or stuck on pixels or subpixels on the display, which is very good for a 4k high density panel.
Overall, this display is a great choice for a multi-role monitor that will serve for gaming, photos, videos, and normal desktop tasks such as web browsing and document editing. It does everything most users will need very well.

Works great with a GTX 1080
on June 20, 2016
Posted by: Keyan
This is a great option for boosting performance on Alienware systems with a compatible port. The GTX 1080 FE fits right in and works great with the latest mobile drivers installed from NVIDIA. Huge performance boost in games and it keeps the GPU heat out of your system, which should extend the life of the components and lowers fan noise from the laptop to only the CPU fan. It also adds 4 USB ports, so it is a kind of docking station. If you know that you are always going to have the cable connected when at your main work space, the hub can be useful for external hard drives and such to reduce desk cable clutter. The unit is very big - with the rather inflexible cable in the back it probably takes up at least 18" of depth and certainly makes a statement on a desk. I was able to hide it down in a desk cubby, but for many you need to realize it is going to be a substantial part of the look of your space. It does have one of the light up Alienware heads on it that has a full channel LED allowing for it to be controlled by the AlienFX software that also manages the laptop lights, or can be shut off too. One last quirk - with it connected the sleep and hibernate functions won't work anymore. All you can do is shut down or restart the PC.

Treyarch (noobs) FTL - A sorry attempt to copy MW2
By Brewcrew414 from Milwaukee, WI
Wow!!.....I am completely amazed at how terrible this game is. First of all, the campaign mode is just a joke. Absolutely boring. Nothing about campaign mode is interesting or keeps my attention at all. OH WOW the Cold War, how exciting!!! Well if you have a weak campaign mode, then maybe your online mode might be able to make the game worth it, right? NOT EVEN CLOSE The PSN servers dedicated to CODBO are a complete joke. Its like playing on dial up. Ive gone back and occasionally played MW2 and those servers are lag free. If you like a lag fest, then you'll live BO online. Nothing makes sense on CODBO online. People shooting you in mid air, super strong smgs, numerous disconnections and hot migrations, and hip fire is the easiest way to get kills? If you think its my connection that makes me lag, its not. I'm running a cable connection maxing out @ 18-20mbps on a direct connect. The online mode is so congested but I feel like the game itself lags up my ps3. In fact only with BOs has my PS3 froze up many many times, at least 1 or 2 times a week!! It feels like there is so much loading going on that its burning my PS3 up. Even the opening credits are a strain on my PS3 and it reads the HDD 4 separate times before I can actually start to look for a game! Why is there so much load time when the graphics are definitely not better than CODMW2? The guns look and feel like toys. It sounds like I'm shooting an airsoft gun. So what sucks about the game so far....campaign, originality, graphics, sounds, unrealistic physics, and ONLINE LAG. Yes its only been a month since the game has been out but with the millions of dollars that they've made off of the sales of the game and the anticipation and success of the previous CODs the least they could do it make it work properly. Zombies mode is the ONLY thing that BOs has going for it. Thanks for that. Overall a much lamer version of MW2 and not worth the $60. I dare you to rent it to see how terrible it is. I cant wait for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 because its going to be made by the real game developers who reinvented the COD franchise. Oh if you think that I'm not credible gamer, here are my legit stats - MW2 2.3 kill/death ratio @ 150,000 kills with a win percentage of 3.0+. Black Ops 1.9 kill/death ratio at 15,000 kills with a win percentage of 3.0+.
Below are pictures of the screen when it froze.
Not even MW3 will be..

Guys listen!! Don't get it.
By Anonymousapplecollector from Savannah
You guys need to stop and listen to me and that other person. He's right, this device is terrible. I own lots of products from apple and this is so far the worst device I've ever own in my life. I've been having the first gen 160gb and it is totally worth it than this, you can actually buy and own instead of just only able to rent really expensive movies. I got this as a bd gift cause my dad knows I'm a big apple collector so I felt really sorry for him and gave it back so he can return it. So do yourself a favor and just save up $50 extra and get the 1st gen apple tv you won't be disappointed.
Ever hear of home sharing?
December 15, 2010
Apparently you didn't actually bother to learn how to use it. You can enable home sharing from iTunes running on your home computer and share your entire iTunes library with this device. If you really want to own a movie, you can buy it through iTunes on your computer and then stream it wirelessly to the Apple TV. This gives you access to (probably) a much, much larger amount of storage than what the older Apple TV had.

Good camera, but to close to the T2i
By da12 from California
Let me start by saying I'm not a professional, but I have owned the T2i, the 50d and now the 60d. I've also rented and tested the 7d and 5d. Over the years I've read several books and got some tutoring from a professional photographer and I feel I know DSLR's pretty well. I have many amazing pictures with all the above cameras. Here is my opinion after owning the 60d.
1. The picture quality of the 50d, 60d and t2i and 7d are identical. I can't find a difference. I did see a considerable difference when I used the 5d though.
2. The video quality of all the cameras seemed pretty equal.
3. I used heavy lenses on all the cameras. No difference in strength. They're all great. I do like the lightweight of the t2i for backpacking though.
4.The 60d has an okay frame rate. Faster than the 5d and t2i. It's faster frame rate is minor and at my sons soccer games, the t2i caught just a many "great" shots. Now when I used the 7d, it did give me quite a few more shots to choose from. I have to admit, for action 7d is more than a step above.
5. Yes the autofocus does have cross type on the 60d but I've never had focusing issues from the t2i, 60d or 7d or 5d. I also never noticed a difference from old 50d vs the t2i. In fact, I didn't even notice a difference between the 7d and the t2i. Maybe in low light the 7d's 19 point is better, but like I said before, I've never had any focusing issues with the 9 point center cross only system on the t2i. Just my opinion, it's all hype.
6.Battery, the t2i's battery lasted me for many hundreds of pics and videos on my last vacation of 3 days. If I was to take to many more, I probably would of needed another battery with any camera.
7. I like the simple buttons on the t2i. I don't understand why people like the controls of the more expensive cameras. After you get used to the t2i, its the fastest....at least for me.
8. Last: Price - The t2i is a bit less than 2/3's the cost of the 60d. Why spend more unless you do lots of action (7d) or want ultra high quality (5d).
In closing, for me it's all about value. The 60d is in a bad position. The expensive middle area. Missing many great features of it's big brothers, the 5d and 7d, and no real "MAJOR" improvement from the t2i. The t2i is more than worth it's price. Probably the best ever value for it's price tag. The 7d is great but a little pricey. It is great for action though. After either owning or testing all the above cameras, my next purchase will be the 5d. Now that camera's full frame sensor is really an improvement. Much sharper and vivid detail. I've learned that first hand.
By the way I returned the 60d to save for the 5d.
I have to disagree
March 21, 2011
As my detailed review points out, there are a lot of pros to the 60D vs even the new rebel T3i. For starters, it has a kit lens that retails for more than twice what the kit lens with the Rebel's come with. Additionally, the shutter is faster, has a secondary LCD screen, better controls (I like the dual dial), better AF system, and a bunch of other things that if you just look at the flashy front page spec sheet you won't see, but when you really get into using the camera you will appreciate. It also has a "C" mode on the dial for Custom - in this mode you can define which features are auto, which are manual, etc, and gives you another place to set up options. The price difference between the Rebel and the 60D (since the 60D seems to be pretty much on perpetual sale now with Best Buy) is about $300 - which is the price difference in the kit lens alone, and you get a lot of extra features over the Rebel.

Steep learning curve
By Picker57 from Fort Collins, CO
I have an extensive history with film SLR's, and with some very capable point-n-shoot digitals. This camera seems capable of a lot of things, many of which don't interest me. However some commonplace things seem more awkward than they should. Example: the flip-out viewer (which I love with my Canon A640) won't work jointly with the regular viewfinder. Also, resetting ISO, aperture, etc. is not nearly as intuitive as I'd like (again, this is compared to my old Canon EF film SLR).
The camera's manual is really pretty good. I purchased a "field guide" as well, and it's pretty useless.
I'm still going through a learning curve with the kit lens (Canon's 18-135mm). So far I'm not impressed, at least when comparing to my old Canon FD lenses.
Expected behavior..
May 3, 2011
This camera is a SLR - so the Mirror will flip up and the shutter will open for video mode. When the mirror is flipped up it blocks the viewfinder to prevent extraneous light from entering the camera body and so it is out of the path of the light as it enters the camera and reaches the sensor. This is how they all work, with the exception of the translucent mirror on some of the newer Sony's - however that mirror comes with a cost of losing about 1/3 of the light entering the camera from reaching the sensor, and if dust gathers on the mirror it also shows up in your pictures...
You are using a kit lens - if you had expensive lenses on old Film camera you should expect different results. Also with film cameras the pictures you get are often not blown up to screen size, or zoomed in to do some "pixel peeping" looking for imperfections.

Does not hold zoom lens
By photon
This bag was purchased as part of a package deal best buy was offering. The bag is not large enough for the lenses that were purchased as part of the package. The front flap on the bag serves no purpose, other than being an annoyance. There are a limited number of ways to rearrange the storage area. Very dissappointed that best buy would include a bag in a package that would not hold the items purchased.
Yes it does
May 6, 2011
Watch the product video on Lowpro's website - the front flap is for securing the zippers so you can gain access to the camera while still having the bag slung over one shoulder and not have a zipper run and open the bag all the way inadvertently.

Durable DSLR
By bobbybilly from Chicago
I was going back and forth between the 60D and the 7D. Besides the $600ish price difference what is the real difference to the "typical" consumer? While I was prepared to purchase the 7D, I was concerned about the size (and secondly for me the weight). After handling the 7D I realized it was a significantly more robust camera than the 60D. A bit more than I was looking for as a hobbyist photographer. That being said, the 60D still has a very full and robust feel and is comfortable to hold. Its predecesor, the 50D (which I have not handled), had a metal body (which also added weight). The 60D is not metal but still feels very stable and firm, not cheap by any means. I don't think the non-metal case is an issue, but rather a benfit, because it makes it lighter.
As I learned from reading specs. on other websites, the 7D, 60D, and Rebel T3i have the EXACT same 18 megapixel image sensor. In image controlled image tests on these websites, it is pointed out that image quality between these three cameras will be almost the same.
The main difference between i see between these cameras is the ability to cusomize both menu and button functions, and customize how you shoot your photos. The 7D, however is significantly more advanced in that it has Dual processors (not image sensors), which will result in much faster image processing, and therefore more photos per second. Also, the 7D also has superior autofocus capabilities (19 points vs 9) which will help in focusing. Of course faster is always better, the 60D has been super fast for me (5.3 frames per second), and I havent had any focusing problems.
Another thing pointed out by websites and people I know is that the lens you attatch will have more effect on the photo quality than the actual camera body. This makes sense, especially considering 3 cameras with the same image sensor..
I was concerned about the 18mm-135mm lens in the kit. I am glad that I purchased the kit with the lens. Although it does feel "cheep" (I knew this when I purchased) it does seem to take great photos. It is noisy (uses a DC motor, like a little toy car sound), but still think it is worth it in the "kit". I probably wouldnt pay the $500 this lens sells for separately, but with the kit, it is a good value if you do not have many or any lenses.Takes better pictures than the way it feels.
Considering this was my first DSLR I decided to purchase the 60D Kit, and spend the extra money on purchasing "better" quality lenses. I have purchased the 70-300mm USM (quiet) tele-zoom lens plus the 60d kit for less than the 7D kit with one lens.
Although, I never planned to use it, I was however very disapointed with the LiveView (use the LCD screen instead of the viewfinder to take pictures) on the 60D (don't know about the others). It takes too long to focus in this mode. Because it is so SLOW (compared to regular viewfinder), I find it a useless function.
Some review have not liked the lack of tactical feedback from the buttons (button are not overly responsive). Although I can see how some may not like the button response, they are still quite usable, and it is not a big deal to me.
Of course there are other differences, but I found the main broad differences are as follows. Since all have the exact same image sensors:
-T3i is good for budget consious who is not overly concerned with custimization or options when taking photos (3.7 frames per second)
-60D has more options, and is faster than the T3i (5.3 frames per second)
-7D is much faster at processing and focussing camera for those who want specific photo options available to them. (8 frames per second)
Switch the focus mode
May 25, 2011
Switch the live view focus to quick mode. It will flip the mirror back down and use the phase array, and then flick the mirror back up. Much faster.

Are you pressing the release button before trying to move it? Also I am not sure there is a hotshoe flash on the planet that can maintain 8 FPS. The full speed burst rate of the 7D is not designed for use with flash.

A must for your dSLR
By Keyan
A hotshoe flash is a must for a dSLR camera to get the best pictures, especially if you are going to do any kind of indoor photography or long distance shots outside. I find this one to be the best one for my 60D. It is not as large as the 580, and since the 60D can be a wireless flash controller I don't need the 580 to be a command unit for that either. The construction is rugged and the case is nice ballistic nylon and fits it well.
These flashes are very advanced and can even receive zoom data from your lens to adjust the power and focus of the flash appropriately. Additionally, it has a red AF assist light that puts out a grid on your subject allowing the AF system in the camera to have an ideal pattern to use for focusing. This is vastly improved over the strobe effect the pop-up flash will use for AF assist. It is also fully articulated and can be fired in just about any direction allowing for some really neat bounce flash effects. Additionally, it can be used wirelessly to provide off-camera flash and even comes with a stand (that slips into its own pocket in the case!) for this purpose. Some Canon cameras can act as a controller without a master unit, while others will require either a 580 or the hotshoe wireless master unit for this ability.
Recycle time is very, very fast, able to fire several times a second with no noticeable whine as the capacitors charge up. I would suggest some high discharge rate (not the same as mAH capacity) NiMH batteries to feed this flash unit as quickly as possible so it is always ready.
Overall, this is a must have if you are serious about taking indoor and flash photography to the next level to with your dSLR.
Yes
August 13, 2011
I have used it with the wireless controller built into the 60D. It works very well indoors, outside you need to have it on a line of sight with the camera for it to work well. Since I use it almost entirely inside that isn't much of a concern for me.

Digital Camera mirrors the SLR of Old
By kamuizot from North Carolina
I've used Canon cameras for a long time. 10 years ago I bought a Sony Digital and haven't used film ever since. That Sony has served me well, but when it came time to upgrade to the Digital SLR I found comfort in the fact that the new cameras used the basic layout of the old film cameras. With this camera I know where to look for things like Shutter speed and F-stop adjustments. I know where the focal sensors are and how to adjust them as well even though I just bought this camera. I did not find this true when I experimented with a friends new Nikon digital SLR. This isn't a negative reflection on Nikon, I simply know Canon cameras better and I'm glad to see that Canon kept the basic layout no matter how much more complex these cameras have become.
This camera is obviously more complex than the old film cameras. I've been trying to get comfortable with all the bells and whistles this camera will do. However, the basic shooting and adjusting needed to take good pictures is easy to find and I love how easily I can shoot, adjust, shoot and adjust.
I don't like the software that comes with this camera. It isn't at all easy to use. The raw files, CR2, is also something of a pain. I can only open them with the Canon software and they are really big files to keep if I am rarely going to use them.
I love the flip out screen, but I worry that I'm going to break it off in a moment of distraction.
RAW isn't that hard..
November 21, 2011
There are lots of software options that can read RAW files, even windows can download a codec so you can preview them just like any other jpeg. All products from Adobe (Photoshop Elements, Lightroom, CS5, etc) can handle the RAW files with ease.
They aren't designed to be small, they are the completely uncompressed image directly from the Camera's sensor. JPEG images lose some of the picture data as part of the compression, RAW files don't.

I wouldn't fully trust the best buy spec sheet. Yes, it has the 90 Whr battery. On the silent performance setting, it can get about 10 hours of run time.

Does the lid have some color inside some of the dots? I know this one doesn't have an animated lid, but several pictures show the lid with streaks of colors in it, but the one I have seen in person appeared to be solid grey (with no color in the dots).

There is a holographic film under most of the dots. When the light catches it just right, you'll see a pop of rainbow color peek through. It's pretty cool.
