Mater...Tow Mater
on November 16, 2011
Posted by: XAvenger
This is another good PIXAR movie.
In Cars 2, the World Grand Prix has drawn racers from around the world and Mater is mistaken for a secret agent. Mater takes the spotlight this time and has some fun mis-adventures as a spy. There's the light-hearted slapstick humor and the more ironic humor of two top British spies thinking that Mater himself is a spy. All in all, this is a fun and entertaining movie that I highly recommend for the whole family.
My advice is to ignore the critics. The critics are totally wrong about this movie. This is not the deepest or most socially significant movie ever made, but the critics have forgotten that a movie can sometimes just be fun to watch and still be a quality motion picture. My advice, decide for yourself about Cars 2! Don't let critics decide what movies you like for you, you are free to like Cars 2!
The only extras in this set are the animated shorts 'Toy Story Hawaiian Holiday' where the Toy Story gang helps out a couple of thier friends and 'Air Mater', where Mater tells the tall Tale of his adventure in a town full of airplanes #a town of planes, I wonder if anyone will make a movie about that?#. You also get a sneak peek at the next PIXAR movie 'Brave'.
I highly recommend this movie for a good time. This is a movie both children and adults can enjoy.
What's great about it: Nice parody of spy movies
What's not so great: The critics are wrong (again)
I would recommend this to a friend!

Ka-Chow!

This movie is great fun! Cars follows Lightning McQueen, an self-absorbed race car who winds up in a forgtten town on Route 66. He comes to care about others and learns about friendship and that life does not always have to be in the fast lane.
Along the way, there's lot's of high-octane laughs in the form of lighthearted slapstick and some more sophisticated humor. Cars is both fun and funny.
The movie is brilliantly animated, everything is well drawn and moves in a fluid and natural manner. The HD transfer on the Blu-Ray brings out the best in the animation. The level of detail is truly amazing.
The extras include the animated shorts 'One Man Band', a tale of dueling street perfomers and 'Mater and the Ghost Light', both are always fun to watch. There are also features on the making of the movie, including how they did the animation and also how they found inspiration for the movie. The guys at PIXAR actually took a road trip down Route 66, makes me want to take that same trip. One feature I found interesting was an interview with a race track owner. It turns out Cars is the first movie to give an accurate portrayal of racing!
Cars is perfect family entertainment. Kids and adults can enjoy watching this movie over and over again. Fast paced fun with stunning HD visuals and sound!
What's great about it: Great PIXAR movie
What's not so great: nothing comes to mind

This release from the classic '80s cartoon series Transformers includes all 98 episodes from all four seasons of the show, telling the story of a robotic alien race called the Autobots, who lead a quest under the leadership of Rodimus Prime to battle the Deceptacons, an evil rival race bent on controlling the world, led by the dastardly Galvatron.

Awesome TV series!

This set is a must have for any Transformers fan! This set collects the entire Tranformers cartoon from the '80s (also called G1#.
Transformers features lots of fast-paced #and generally non-violent) action, there's more action in a half-hour Transformers episode than in most 60 minute live-action episodes. Lots of fast and furious action and some exciting duels between Optimus Prime and Megatron.
This is also a surprisingly well-written series. The plot for any given episode is well thought out and develops each character nicely. From high profile heroes like Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, to giving the spotlight to some lesser known characters like Beachcomber and Trax.
The animation is quite good by 80's TV standards and even holds up today as quality animation. Shout Factory did a good job on the restoration of the series. There are a few places where you can see source material problems, but most of the show looks as crisp and clear as when it was first broadcast.
The extras trace the history of the Transformers from the action figures, to the Marvel comics to the TV series itself, including input from series writers, Bob Budiansky the writer of the Marvel comic and even some of the voice actors. Very informative!
For an action series the whole family can enjoy, look no further than Transformers! See it for the first time or rediscover why you loved this series so much.
Required viewing for any Transformers fan!
What's great about it: All of Transformers in one set!
What's not so great: A few source material issues here and there

Excellent CD

The Little Mermaid features a truly outastanding score from Alan Menkin and Howard Ashman. The Oscar winning music is one of many things that made The Little mermaid such a great film.
The instrumental pieces all fit the mood of any given scene perfectly. From light and bouncy tunes, to more intorspective pieces to great music for the battle between good and evil.
The songs are great too, Jodi Benson does a brilliant job as Ariel! 'Kiss the Girl' is a very romantic song and 'Under the Sea' is a great Caribbean flavored song. A highlight is Jodi Benson's 'Part of your World'.
There is no filler to be found anywhere on this CD. All the music and songs are superb and truly deserving of the Oscars for best score and song #'Under the Sea'#.
This CD gives you the complete score from the first movie of the 'Disney Renaissance'. Essential listening for any Disney fan!
What's great about it: All the music from the movie
What's not so great: can't think of anything

This CD is the soundtrack to the eX-Driver movie, not the OVA series.
This CD features a fun, fast=paced score that fits the action of the movie perfectly. The instrumental pieces, composed by Hikaru Nanse, and the songs, performed by MILK and Masaaki Endouh, all make for great listening.
Recommended for any fan of eX-Driver or of J-Pop or J-Rock.
What's great about it: A nice soundtrack to a fun movie
What's not so great: I would have liked the OVA soundtrack as well

Here is a true classic and a film that boasts so many firsts! Forbidden Planet was the first sci-fi film made with an 'A' movie budget, the first film to use an all electronic score and the first film to show sci-fi's potential for greatness. Forbidden Planet also introduced movie-goers to Robby the Robot.
The story follows the crew of the Spacecruiser 57D on a relief mission to a lost colony. There, the crew meets the lone survivor and his daughter and later learns some of the secrets of a lost civilization and battles a terrifying invisible monster.
The visual effects, many of which were done by Disney animators, and sets all look great. This was all state of the art in the mid 1950's and it still holds up. The scenes in the alien city are still mindblowing and the battle with the only partially visible monster is truly exciting. This is one sci-fi movie that really gives you the feeling of being in another world.
I love the 'electronic tonalities'. Both the music and the sound effects are eerie and unforgettable and add to the broad canvas that is Fobidden Planet.
Robby the Robot is cool. He was the first robot to be portrayed as a character and is a forerunner of movie robots to come in later years. He actually looks like a working robot!
The HD transfer is fantastic, especially when you consider the age of the film. A defenite improvement over the DVD. Most of the scenes are sharply detailed and clearly defined with only a few source material problems owing to the age of the film.
The extras include documentaries on the film itself and 1950's sci-fi films and even about the development of Robby the Robot. There's also a 'Thin Man' episode that featured Robby the Robot and the movie 'The Invisible Boy' which also featured Robby. 'The Thin Man' episode is entertaining, but 'The Invisible Boy' is boring!
Forbidden Planet is the movie that set the stage for so many great sci-fi movies to follow and remains one of the most influential films ever made. This is a truly essential Blu-Ray for any sci-fi fan or for any interested in cinema history. Forbidden Planet stands with the likes of 2001 and Star Wars as one of the greatest sci-fi films ever made.
What's great about it: A sci-fi classic in glorious HD
What's not so great: Some source material issues here and there
I would recommend this to a friend!

Excellent soundtrack
on October 19, 2011

The Godzilla series has had two outstanding composers: Akira Ifukuba and Michiru Ohshima. This soundtrack was composed by Ohshima.
The music for Godzilla vs. Megaguirus is superb. Powerful and driving, just like Godzilla himself and also features some great music for the battle between Godzilla and Megaguirus. This CD also features a few sound effects from the movie, including roars from Godzilla, which makes for fun listening. Ohshima also does a nice homage to Ifukube with her take on the Godzilla theme.
This CD is highly recommended for any Godzilla fan and is some of the best sci-fi music around.

More great Godzilla music
on October 19, 2011
Posted by: XAvenger
This CD completes the 'Best of Godzilla' collection from some of Godzilla's more recent movies.
As with the first volume, the music by Akira Ifukube is the best. He has composed some of the finest and most exciting music from the Godzilla movies. Akira Ifukube is to Godzilla what John williams is to Star Wars. This CD also includes a new version of Mothra's song. I actually like the newer version etter. The first version is a classic, but I love the sound of the newer song. A truly stirring piece.
As with the first CD, if you are a Godzilla fan, this CD is essential listening.
What's great about it: Great music collection
What's not so great: Nothing comes to mind

Great CD

This CD collects themes from some of Godzilla's ealier adventures.
The highlights are the musc from Akira Ifukube, the composer of the first Godzilla movie and many others. He is the man who created Godzilla's signature theme and stands alongside John Williams as one of the finest composers in moviedom. I also loved Mothra's song, a great composition sung by an excellent sister duo.
A great collection of superb music from one of the most famous series of movies in history.
Recommended listening for any Godzilla fan.

Everyone's favorite atomic fire-breathing prehistoric monster confronts both natural and man-made adversaries in this Japanese horror vehicle, which gets a solid presentation for its North American DVD release. Godzilla Vs. Magaguirus has been transferred to disc in letterboxed format in the widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1, which is also enhanced for anamorphic playback on 16 x 9 monitors. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital 5.1, and viewers may choose between the original Japanese soundtrack and a dubbed version in English. Optional subtitles in English and French are also included. The film's theatrical trailer appears as a bonus.

Another fun Godzilla movie
on October 17, 2011
Posted by: XAvenger
This is one of the later Godzilla movies, better made than some of the earlier Godzilla movies.
In this one, a weapon is created with the intention of sending Godzilla into another dimension. A rare insect is exposed to interdimension energy and is mutated into a monster. Japan is caught in the middle in a battle between Megaguirus, the mutated insect, and Godzilla.
The monster suits are well designed and the action features some top quality CGI visual effects. The miniature set looks realistic and this makes for one of the most exciting giant monster duels I've seen on the big screen.
The consept of an insect mutated into a monster is actually pretty well thought out and makes sense in the context of the film. The plot is well written and the movie is well directed. This ranks as one of Godzilla's better big screen outings.
As with any movie, makes sure you watch it in it's original language rather than the dub. The dub cast is not quite as good as the original cast and the fact that the voice and lip movements are out of synch in the dub version can be jarring at times. Don't worry about subtitles, reading them is much easier than you might think.
Recommended for any fan of sci-fi, Japanese movies or Godzilla.
What's great about it: Action and some top notch visual effects
What's not so great: English dub
I would recommend this to a friend!

Haven't had a chance to view all the other discs but what a disappiontment. Question is do I exchange again or simply ask for a refund???? Anyone else have similar problem?

Good Movie If You Don't Have A Sony or Samsung
By Enchanter from Trenton, MI
Lots of talk with the First Class movie not working with Sony. It would not work with my Sony BDP S350. Which is NOT 3D. I had to disable the internet connection "Do not allow disc to access internet" or some such. Then I had to delete the data file the Xmen movie had already installed when I tried to watch it the first time. This isn't easy either as it normally doesn't display the stored data in the setup menu. I had to do this by inserting an invalid disc. In this case the digital copy. Then I got the menu to delete the First Class data file. What a pain, I'm watching this now and it BETTER be good, lol. If your not up to this then get the DVD. Hope this helps someone.

Good value for the money. One BRD issue.
By burrisd from Fredericksburg, VA
As a Star Wars fan I find this a good value for the money. I have a problem with the blu-ray discs, which is in no way a fault of Best Buy. Every single disc seems to enter a pause mode during the movie and then speeds up without audio. I have to stop playing the disc and restart it again. This happens regardless of which blu-ray player I use. Other than that, I would recommend this product.
