Smashing!
on February 12, 2012

This is one of my favorite movies. This Blu-Ray has the first, and the best, Godzilla movie. A movie that spawned so many squels.
In this film, a mutated dinosaur is awakened by atomic testing and goes on a rampage. Godzilla's rampage destroys a large section of Tokyo and threatens more destruction if it is allowed to continue. This could have easily been a B-moive, but it is an outstanding film and a timeless classic thanks to the work of Tomoyuki Tanaka, the film's producer, legendary special effects artist Eiji Tsuburaya who created the amazing (by 1950's standards# visual effects of Godzilla, Akira Ifukube who composed the powerful and stirring score and director Ishiro Honda. It is because of them that Godzilla is still popular to this day.
The original version is riveting! There are many exciting, suspenseful and heart-rending scenes. The scenes of Godzilla destryoing Tokyo look realistic and boast many terrifying moments. The scenes of the aftermath are shocking, the prayer for peace sung by a choir of young women is turly stirring. This is one of the finest sci-fi/fantasy films ever made.
The extras include interviews with surviving cast and crew members #including Haruo Nakajima who wore the Godzilla suit). These offer some fascinating insights into this enduring classic. There's also a piece on a fishing ship that strayed too close to an atomic test and the crew came down with radiation sicknees, a real-life event that inspired part of the movie. Godzilla does have an anti-atomic weapons message, but it does not beat you over the head with it. Rather than using the approach Godzilla used in dealing with Tokyo, the movie is more subtle. Very effective!
The Blu-Ray is fantastic! The movie looks great and almost all of the scenes are sharply defined with just a few source material issues evident due to the age of the film. All in all, this was an exemplary job of restoration and HD transferring.
The Americanized version does not quite have the same impact as the original movie, and the scenes with Raymond Burr are obviously tacked on. They edited this movie a little too much.
This is the start of a legend! A classic that has stood the test of time and one of Toho's finest films.
Essential for any sci-fi collection!
What's great about it: The original classic inHD
What's not so great: Americanized version, and some source material issues

Great 3D fighting game!
on February 7, 2012
Posted by: XAvenger
This is another outstanding installment in one of the best 3D fighting series around (this and Tekken are the two great series in 3D fighting in my opinion).
The graphics in Soul Calibur V are brilliant, boasting deep, vibrant colors and a high level of detail and clarity in all images. Both characters and backgrounds look great. The animation is fluid and natural looking. Soul Calibur continues to have some of the best graphics in any fighting series.
The gameplay feels better than in SC IV. I am able to pull of moves and combos easier than in earlier installments of the SC series. The gameplay in SC was always great, but SC V makes it better!
The Original Japanese voice cast does a better job as the characters than the English dub cast, but my only real complaint is that some characters I really liked from Soul Calibur IV are missing in acion! Particularly these three: Soung-Mina, Talim and Yueng-Sung. I like the new characters, but I also liked these classic characters. If Namco were to make these characters available as a PSN download (which I don't see any reason not to#, SC V would be perfect.
If anyone from Namco is reading this, please make these characters available as DLC! I will defenitely buy them either individually or as a set #an SC IV character set would be great).
What's great about it: Top notch 3D fighter
What's not so great: English dub, and a few characters I liked are not included

Excellent CD
on February 6, 2012

This is one of my favorite game soundtracks.
Final Fantasy X-2 does not have the grand symphonic score that most Final Fantasy games have, but instead goes for a jazzy, pop-rock type score. The music in this CD is played more for fun than for drama, just like the game itself.
There are some great jazz flavored instrumentals and some exciting battle themes. Every track is a joy to listen to and you can relive the fun of the game itself.
I just wish this CD had the full length versions of the songs Yuna sang in the game. The songs are the same length as in the game and are the Japanese versions, both are fun to listen to even in the short version (it would be awsome if the CD had both the Japanese and English versions).
I recommend this CD to any fan of the game or of anime music.
Gullwings rock!!!
What's great about it: A great game soundtrack
What's not so great: Doesn't have the full version of the songs

A great investment

I do not like the Blu-Ray cases where they cut plastic out. I always worry about the discs getting scratched. I, like so many others, do not want my Blu-Rays to be damaged and I always felt that the cut out parts had great potential for damaging my Blu-Rays.
These solve the problem. You get nice durabe cases with no plastic cut outs so there are no worries about your Blu-Rays being scratched by the case.
Question for Blu-Ray manufacturers and the people who designed the cases with the cut outs. If I take the Blu-Rays out of a jewel case with the cut outs, put the discs in one of these and then throw the case with the cut out parts away, how is that going to conserve our resources or reduce landfill use?
What's great about it: Holds Blu-Rays and keeps them safe
What's not so great: Why don't the manufacturers put Blu-Rays in these?

An excellent combo!

This is an essential purchase for any Tekken fan! On one Blu-Ray disc you get the original Tekken Tag Tournament in HD, a preview of Tekken Tag 2 and the movie Tekken Blood Vengence.
The movie is a lot of fun to watch. It has a good blend of drama and comedy and some stunning action scenes. The story focuses on Xiaoyu and Alisa, both are great characters and it's great to see them get time in the spotlight. Very well written and directed. The music rocks! I wish this set included the soundtrack as a CD or a PSN download. The character designs are all faithful to the game and the CG animation is, in a word, ASTOUNDING! Tekken Blood Vengence boasts some of the best CG animation I have ever seen. The Blu-Ray makes it look even better. The colors are bright and deep and everything is in sharp focus and clearly detailed. This Blu-Ray is a keeper even after you get Tekken Tag Tournament 2! Easily the best movie based on a video game ever made. Just remember to watch it in the Original Japanese. The Japanese cast is great, but the dub is not quite of the same quality.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 looks very promising! The demo includes 4 playable levels and four selectable characters. The action is fast paced and the controls are responsive. The graphics and sound are outstanding! If this is what I can expect from the full game, then Tekken Tag tournament 2 could be one of the best 3D fighting games ever made!
The original Tekken Tag Tournament is a good game. The graphics are last generation and the controls feel a bit slower than in Tekken 6 and the Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Prologue, but it's still fun to play. I like Tekken bowl, I hope Tekken Tag tournament 2 includes that mini-game (this could certainly make use of the PS Move!).
Tekken Hybrid is more than just a demo of Tekken Tag Tournament 2! I recommend this to anyone who likes Tekken, anime or action movies!
What's great about it: Great preview of Tekken Tag 2, Blood Vengence is a cool action movie
What's not so great: English dub

The Force is strong in Clone Wars
on December 29, 2011

Star Wars: The Clone Wars continues to be the best sci-fi series on TV today. This season has some of the best stories yet!
The Clone War still rages and we are treated to some exciting action in the form of space and ground based battles as well as some insights into the characters (even the clones). The Mortis Trilogy and the Nightsisters Trilogy are nothing short of masterpieces. In the Mortis Trilogy, we see factors that lead to Anakin's dark future and these episodes deepen the mystery of the Force. In Nightsisters, we learn about the past of Assaj Ventriss and we meet Savage Opress, a kinsman of Darth Maul. We even get a hint that Darth Maul may still live. Both of these story arcs are deep, brilliantly written and expertly directed. Nightsisters and Mortis are two of the most stunning story arcs I've ever seen on TV.
The animation is excellent and continues to improve. The movements are all fluid and natural looking and the everything is drawn in a stylized way. Clone Wars keeps looking great and the HD transfer on the Blu-Ray brings out everything in clear focus and sharp detail. Clone Wars really shines on Blu-Ray.
The extras include some featurettes on certain episodes, including one the episodes that features Chewbacca. An exclusive to Blu-Ray is the Jedi Archives which shows character, mechanical and background drawings, as well as test animations and deleted scenes. Very interesting and informative.
Clone Wars is a series both children and adults can enjoy watching. It has action, drama and suspense all in one fantastic series. Highly recommended.
May the Force be with You!
What's great about it: Excellent sci-fi TV
What's not so great: Political episodes not quite as interesting

An astounding High-Defenition experience!
on December 25, 2011
Posted by: XAvenger
This happens to be my favorite Pixar movie, and it looks amazing on Blu-Ray (or Bluuu-Rrrayy as WALL-E might call it). As great as WALL-E is, this is one movie that really deserves to be seen in High Defenition.
The animation is truly astounding, as is to be expected from a Pixar film. All characters are brilliantly rendered and move in a fluid and natural manner. The colors are bright and clear. The HD transfer on the Blu-Ray really brings out the quality of the animation. Everything is sharp and crystal-clear with no trace of defects anywhere to be found. All the backgrounds have a high level of detail, detail that Blu-Ray shows of magnificently and the characters all look natural and like they are interacting with thier respective environments. You actually get the feeling of 3D without using 3D! Pixar has raised the bar once again!
The music is great. From comical tunes to more fusturistic and etherial music, WALL-E has an outstanding score.
The story tells of a robot who has developed a personality, WALL-E and falls in love with another robot, EVE. You really come to feel for WALL-E and want to see him succede. He may be a robot, but he has the same feelings we have. There's not much dialogue, but WALL-E tells an a great story without the need for much dialogue. Action, visuals and music weave a brilliantly told tale of love and heroism. Along the way, there's lots of fun and high-spirited action.
The extras include animated shorts and background featurettes on the making of WALL-E as well as a few deleted and alternate scenes. There's even some games with WALL-E and friends based on old-school arcade classics like 'Asteroids', 'Burgertime' and 'Lunar Lander' #if you have a PS3, the Dualshock 3 works with these games#.
WALL-E is a fun and exciting sci-fi adventure with a great cast of characters in stunning HD. If you have Blu-Ray, this is an essential part of your HD movie collection. If you already have the WALL-E DVD, it is worth the upgrade, the picture and sound are so much etter on Blu-Ray than on DVD!
What's great about it: PIXAR at their best
What's not so great: Not Applicable

High flying adventure
on December 25, 2011
Posted by: XAvenger
This is a great movie, certainly worthy of it's Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.
Up follows the life of Carl Frederickson from his years as a young boy dreaming of adventure through his married life (this was told through a brilliantly executed montage# to his later years as a lonely widower #where the story picks up#. Carl sets off for South America by tying ballons to his house but he has an unexpected stowaway in the form of a talkative Wilderness Explorer named Russel. Carl and Russel, and a dog named Dug, have an exciting and suspenseful adventure in the wilds of Venezuela and along the way, we see that Carl and Russel both have voids in thier lives. This is yet another case where PIXAR takes an unusual premise and executes it brilliantly.
The animation is astounding, some of the best I've ever seen on the big screen. Everything is so expertly drawn and beautifully animated. #it's a PIXAR movie, what do you expect?) The colors of the rainforest and the wildlife are rich and vibrant, it gives you the feeling of being there.
The extras include featurettes on the research trip to Venezuela the PIXAR guys took with some insights on the conditions and wildlife in the area as well as a look at some of the process of making the movie itself. It also has the animated shorts 'Presto' and 'Dug's Special Adventure'. The Blu-Ray also has an interactive game where you can earn your Wilderness Explorer badge.
Up really shines on Blu-Ray. The HD transfer puts everything in sharp focus and all the details come out beautifully. This is one movie that really deserves to be seen in High Defenition.
Up is perfect family viewing. Something all-ages can enjoy. Highly recommended.
What's great about it: Top notch PIXAR film
What's not so great: Nothing comes to mind

This is one of the best animated features ever made. PIXAR outdid themselves with this one.
Ratatouille tells the tale of a rat named Remy who dreams of being a chef and a guy named Linguini who finds direction with Remy's help. This may sound bizarre, but the story is told brilliantly with a great deal of emotion. Excellent balance of humor and drama. It's perfect for children and adults, excellent family viewing.
As with any PIXAR film, the animation is astounding. Everything is superbly rendered and fluidly animated. The ainmation really shines with the Blu-Ray transfer, everything is crystal clear and in very sharp focus. Yet another flawless HD experience from Disney.
The extras chronicle the making of the film, including input from real life chefs and even some reference footage of pet rats. There's also a coking game where you try to follow recipies and keep up with demand.
There are also two animatred shorts. 'Lifted', which was shown in theaters with Ratatouille, is the story of an alien who struggles to pass his 'Human Abduction' test and 'You're friend the Rat!', a great show hosted by Remy and his brother Emile about the natural history of the rat. Your friend the Rat features old-school 2D animation reminscent of the animation Ward Kimble created for 'Walt Disney Presents'. Remy and Emile sing a nice song and try to convince you that Humans and Rats can live in harmony.
This is one of PIXAR's all-time best and is the kind of movie you can watch over and over again. A perfect movie for the entire family to watch and an essential for any Blu-Ray collection.
What's great about it: One of PIXAR's finest
What's not so great: Nothing at all

This is an enjoyable racing game. Cars 2 includes race and combat racing games with some very cool weapons and characters, all of which are based on the movie Cars 2.
The controls work well and gameplay is easy to pick up. The graphics and sound are good, nothing that pushes PS3 power to it's limits but it still looks and sounds good.
The only complaint I have is the lack of a story mode. Some of the previous games had a well developed story mode and a large open environment to explore. This game doesn't have that. It does not detract from my enjoyment of the game, but a story mode would have made Cars 2 much better.
This is a good family game. Easy enough for kids but with enough replay value and depth to keep adults interested. Much better than most movie tie-in games.
What's great about it: Fun racing game based on Cars 2
What's not so great: Not much of a story mode to speak of

Good Movie If You Don't Have A Sony or Samsung
By Enchanter from Trenton, MI
Lots of talk with the First Class movie not working with Sony. It would not work with my Sony BDP S350. Which is NOT 3D. I had to disable the internet connection "Do not allow disc to access internet" or some such. Then I had to delete the data file the Xmen movie had already installed when I tried to watch it the first time. This isn't easy either as it normally doesn't display the stored data in the setup menu. I had to do this by inserting an invalid disc. In this case the digital copy. Then I got the menu to delete the First Class data file. What a pain, I'm watching this now and it BETTER be good, lol. If your not up to this then get the DVD. Hope this helps someone.

Good value for the money. One BRD issue.
By burrisd from Fredericksburg, VA
As a Star Wars fan I find this a good value for the money. I have a problem with the blu-ray discs, which is in no way a fault of Best Buy. Every single disc seems to enter a pause mode during the movie and then speeds up without audio. I have to stop playing the disc and restart it again. This happens regardless of which blu-ray player I use. Other than that, I would recommend this product.
