Best Mid Range TV
on April 29, 2020
Posted by: ViperElectric
from Knoxville, TN, USA
This TV replaced the slightly older Sony 4K TV I had and I have to say for the price, this TV is worlds better than what I was using.
The Good:
1. The picture quality on this TV out of the box was fairly good. However if you take some time and adjust the settings to no use energy saver its even better. Yes it may take a few extra bucks a year to run the TV but it is very worth the image quality improvement. Colors are bright and vibrant and overall the image is one of the best I have seen in a TV under 1000 dollars.
2. The overall style of the TV is great, its not super stylized or whimsical in how thin or light it is but that is just fine for me I would rather have a TV with thin bezels all the way around that I don't feel like I am going to break if i touch one of the corners and this TV fits that bill.
3. The number of inputs available for this TV is great, there are just too many TV's in the market today that only have one or two HDMI ports on them and that is ridiculous. I should not have to go out and purchase an HDMI switcher just to be able to hook all of my items to the TV. This TV has 4 HDMI inputs which is enough for me to hook up both gaming systems I have, a sound bar on the ARC input as well as an extra input for whatever I may need in the future. It's nice to have options. Also there is a optical audio input which is nice for some sound systems.
4. Android TV, I was skeptical about this one because I have used an apple TV for years. But after a little bit of use and getting use to the differences I have to say that android TV is nice. It's also a bonus that the TV has chromecast built in so I can just stream content from my phone or even my computers web browser without to much fuss. The system is responsive and not laggy at all, at least how I am using it. Also the TV powers on in just a few seconds after the first initial power on and boot so I don't have to wait 3 or 4 minutes to start watching the content I want.
5. Viewing movies that support HDR or Dolby Vision on this TV are amazing! Not much more to say about that, very very good movie watching experience at this price point without going out and purchasing an OLED TV for 5 times the price. I just wanted to make sure I got that point across.
The Not So Good:
1. I know the TV has Atmos built in however the internal speakers leave a lot to be desired, don't purchase this TV if you think that because it claims to have atmos that the sound is going to blow you away because honestly it wont, it sounds like a typical tv with rear facing internal speakers. Do yourself a favor if you plan on getting this TV or any TV for that matter and pick yourself up a sound bar or sound system of some sort you will thank me later.
2. Google Assistant.... I don't understand the need for google assistant, I tried to find reasons to use it over just using the remote to navigate TV functions and search for things, I couldn't. I guess if you use google assistant for everything already then maybe you have more use of it then I do but that usefulness is lost in the fact that if you want to trigger google assistant on the TV you still have to pick up the remote to do it anyway because that is the only way to trigger the assistant and the microphone from what I can tell is in the remote. It's quicker for me to pick up the remote to turn the volume down or turn the tv on or off than it is to try and use my phones google assistant and tell it to do the same task as well. The once nice thing I guess is it's super easy to get the weather without digging out my phone if I'm sitting on the couch watching TV and the phone is across the room.
Honestly Even that is not really a bad thing its a nice feature to have and I'm sure the longer I have the TV the more ways I will find to use it. The only other thing that was kind of a bummer is some apps that have 4K capable version on the Apple TV don't have the same for the android TV one example I would give is movies anywhere but that's not necessarily a fault of the TV so I can't really take points away for that.
Overall if your looking for a solid TV for movies, tv, or games, this is a good place to start at a very good price. Just don't expect the best sound quality from the TV speakers themselves. Oh and android TV and the TV settings are very easy to use so that is also a plus in my book.

Easy Setup, and it just works.
on March 23, 2020
Posted by: ViperElectric
from Knoxville, TN, USA
I'll start with the good items, the first thing is this printer is super simple to set up. All you have to do is install an HP app on your phone and follow the instructions to add a printer. This makes it simple and quick to connect the printer to your home wifi so it can be used by all of your devices. Connecting the printer to your windows 10 computer after it has been set up is even easier as all I had to do was go to "add printer", find the device in the list (since its already on my network) and click add. Windows even prompts you to install the HP app after its done installing the printer so that you can use all of the printer's features like scanning as well.
The HP smart app is simple and easy to use both on your PC and on your phone. It has to be one of the easiest to use print apps for a mobile device I have used in a long time.
Print quality is what I expect from a laser printer super quick and clean sharp prints. Even a full page of black printed well without an excess of dark or light spots. Text prints very clean and I have had no issue with paper feed or operation at all.
Scanning items to my computer was also super easy with the HP smart app on windows, just open the app press the button for scanning place the item on the scanner and start it. Once it's scanned the app allows you to save the scan as either a PDF or a JPG, verify simple and quick. It will make quick work of scanning in paperwork for work.
The user interface on the printer is very minimal but I like that. I never saw the need for big graphical displays on a printer, I just need the thing to copy and print and this printer does that well with the controls given.
I also like the small footprint of the printer, it takes up very little space.
Now for probably the only thing I am not a huge fan of, the paper tray. I know it might sound odd to call out a paper tray on a printer but I would have rather had a nice pull out drawer to put the paper in instead of the way it is handled with this printer. The odd paper cover that is provided instead is just strange. It feels like it was kind of an afterthought when they realized they needed to have a way to cover the paper slot that they provide.
I also wish you could fit a few more sheets of paper in the paper slot but that is more of a personal preference I guess.
Overall this printer works great and the one shortcoming of the way paper is handled is not enough for me to not like the printer as a whole. It prints quickly, print quality is good, and setup was the easiest I've had with a wifi printer in a long time.

Very good camera if your looking for compact.

If you happen to be someone that is looking for a semi-professional camera but looking for less bulk at the same time, this camera is, in my opinion, the way to go. This camera is just as capable in my testing (at my skill level) as the full-frame DSLR I have, and it takes better pictures in most cases as well. I will say I have a few small criticisms though. First being that with all the options that are available on the camera it can be very overwhelming at first. Luckily cannon thought about that and included an auto mode that works very very well. Better than the lazy auto shoot of the past pictures taken in auto turned out just as good or even better in some instances than the ones I took time to set all the settings for. One other issue I had was pertaining to video. Video once you get everything set right was great overall. However, I had a minor issue when I started where I was unable to select 4k as a resolution. Come to find out that was because of the save file type I had selected and I’ll admit it took a fair while for me to figure that out. Once I got that sorted everything just works and it's great. I think this would be a great camera for anyone looking to improve their photo skills over just using a phone for everything. I also liked having the option for the viewfinder as it just works better in some situations for me, but at the same time, you can take it off if it's not needed. That helps with the overall size and feel of the camera and I think it was a smart move. I hope that cannon keeps with this platform size so that there are more size appropriate lenses for it in the future as of my review when looking for other lenses the selection seemed to be a little sparse.
Overall the camera is great, it takes clean pictures, is super easy to use, and has a size that is just right for those of us who just don’t want to carry around a full-frame camera all the time.

Best out of box solution for TV back-lighting
on December 2, 2019
Posted by: ViperElectric
from Knoxville, TN, USA
This product is great if your looking for a back-lighting that is synced with your TV. It adds an amazing level of immersion if your watching in a dark room with a good movie. I was impressed by how easy this box was to set up all I had to do was pair it with my hue box with my existing hue hub and use the special app they have just for the Sync box. My only complaints about the box might be that I can't seem to get the back-lighting to shut off when I turn off my TV, instead i just get the lights set to there last value. I then have to manually shut the back-lights off with the normal hue app. My only other major complaint is that if you can't seem to be able to use the hue sync box as well as the hue sync app on a computer on the same hue network. Because the sync box is running the software says that there is already an entertainment area connected keeping you from selecting a second set of lights for a different display to run with the software instead of the sync box. Otherwise I have not had too many issue with the light syncing most of the time the lights sync well with what is displayed. I hope that they will continue to work on the software to make the light syncing better over time as well.

Great Device for the kitchen.

I recently purchases the new Anova Nano and thought it was great, this new "regular-sized" Anova is even better. I put regular-size in quotes because in all actuality this new Anova is about the same size as the Nano I have, I was very surprised to find this out when I opened the box. I was even more surprised when I realized it fit the container I had set up for the nano just as well. This is an even better Anova because the Nano just has Bluetooth, this Anova, however, has Wifi also and its multitudes better to use because of it. No more worrying about Bluetooth dropping out in the middle of a long cook session! This thing stays connected to the Wifi in my home and I never have to worry about losing connection. There is the added benefit that I can monitor a long cooking session from outside the home as well, because of the Wifi connectivity. As for cooking quality it cooks great I love the immersion circulator for a great steak or seasoned chicken breast that I can throw in for a while and not have to worry about burning. Then once it's cooked just pull it out of the bag and sear the food and we are good to go. Some of the most tender steaks I have ever had have come from using this Anova. I would say if you don't have one already or if you have the Nano get this you will thank yourself later.

Great Mouse for productivity
on October 31, 2019

I have used some version of the MX master since they initially released the original, never did I think there was that much more they could do to make the mouse better than those but somehow they did. I like this mouse even more than I liked my MX master 2. The side button placement is shifted just enough to make it more usable for long work sessions. I also like the positioning and feel of the scroll wheel, similar function but better overall feel. Overall if you are looking for a solid work mouse and maybe one you can also use for long gaming sessions this mouse feels right at home.

Great Ten Keyless board.

This is a very good keyboard if you are into gaming or typing. However, be forewarned that the keys are very loud, so if a loud typing keyboard bothers you this one is not for you. I, however, love the clickiness of the blue keys that come with this keyboard. The backlighting is nice and bright and easy to see and I love the overall feel of the build quality. This keyboard is very sturdy and a little heavy which is nice. Overall it's a very good typing feel and as long as your not going to annoy someone with the loud nature of the keys I would say its a good overall value. My only real gripe would probably be that for something that is labeled as a "Pro" series device, I would have preferred to see USB-C instead of Micro USB.

Great Keyboard for around the house.
on October 22, 2019
Posted by: ViperElectric
from Knoxville, TN, USA
This keyboard is super versatile in what you can do with it. It works great as a desktop keyboard. The key travel is great for this type of keyboard but not my favorite overall. I also love how easy it is to switch between devices. Currently, we have this keyboard attached to my wife's laptop via the dongle and then attached to the apple tv we have via Bluetooth for when we need to type there. It's so much easier than navigating with the remote for the apple tv.
One thing of note is this keyboard is kind of heavy. If your thinking about toting it around in a bag or something it may not be the best for that. That said I do like the weight it is heavy enough that I don't feel like I am going to break it if I hold it the wrong way like a lot of other wireless keyboards. I also love the backlighting just subtle enough to not be an annoyance all the time and the lights shut off if you are not using the thing which really saves on battery life. I have not had to replace the batteries yet for this thing.

Works Great!

I have used several different air fryers in the past and I have to say that this is one of the best I have used to date. Items cook great and the special mode they have for cooking frozen boxed items works better than I anticipated. I also appreciate the fact that the unit is much smaller than several of the other air fryers I have used in the past. Another note would be that pre-heating is quick and super easy it only takes 3 minutes or so, and then it's ready to throw in the food and cook away. I don't really have anything negative to say about the air fryer so far, it just works and thats what I really like about it.

Great Update to the Older models
on July 24, 2019
Posted by: ViperElectric
from Knoxville, TN, USA
This is a solid update to the last generation of Bose Bluetooth noise-canceling headsets. The noise cancelation is some of the best I have ever heard or not heard if you want to think of it that way. The headset is also very comfortable, more comfortable even than the already super comfortable QC35 II's I had. The sound quality is great and even which is what I like about the bose line of products. The only minor thing I would say is I wish that the headphones folded like the last version for easier storage and portability, but I understand the need to be modern and fresh. The sound cancelation for phone calls also seems to be much improved over previous generations of headsets as well. Most people have had no issues hearing me even in louder areas when talking during a conversation. Overall this is a great set of headphones.

Good for very simple stuff not much more
By ViperElectric
I'll be very honest with this one. If you plan on using this computer for anything more than simple word documents and some simple internet use look other places. I would recommend getting the Core i5 version of this computer before you get this one.
Pro's:
Overall design is well thought out. The device is clean and nicely wrapped in a cloth like material that gives is a little bit of room style. I would not mind having this computer sitting next to my TV or even right on my desk as it has a very welcoming look. The sound out of the single speaker on top of the device from the little bit I have used it so far seems really good for such a small setup as well.
Con's
Unfortunately this computer is very very under powered. It is nice that they include 8GB of ram but ram is not everything. This computer tends to start dragging and hiccuping any time you try to do more than one thing. I could not watch a video and surf other web pages without response times being slow and sluggish. The i3 processor is just not up to the game of driving both the monitor and the computer. The i5 version has a dedicated video card and i feel that this version would have benefited from that arrangement as well. But for cost savings i can see why they did not include that.
I honestly feel that the i3 processor in this computer just is not enough for someone who may use a computer for more than just the occasional word document or email. It chugs in a bad way when you attempt to do anything more. If all you want to do is load a single page and play music over the included speaker then I would say you are ok, but more than that and be warned it will feel really slow.

Can you connect two starter kits together?

You can connect the panels from two kits together yes, I just don't think you can have two controllers in the same setup so you would need to omit the controller panel from one set. Otherwise, the panels can all be added together.
