Very Worthy of a Double Dip
on July 10, 2008

While its commonplace for movies to get money-milking "deluxe" and "ultimate" rereleases on DVD, this Platinum Series issue of the classic "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is worthy of such a title.
Far supassing the original 1999 single disc release, this expansive two disc set has almost everything a fan would want. Remastered audio and video, a comprehensive and lengthy documentary featuring all new interviews with creator Wes Craven, stars Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp and Amanda Wyss (for starters), two commentary tracks (one all new for this release and a great one ported from the previous disc), and a great featurette with other horror masters talking about Freddy and the phenomeon.
The movie itself is a classic. Before he was watered down in the endless sequel parade, Freddy Krueger was a truly frightening horror figure. Watching just the opening scene is particularing jolting and commands your dramatic attention. Say goodbye to the one liners after each murder... the cartoonish gore and violence of "Nightmares" 4 and 5... this Freddy is dark, menacing, and he means business.
The only drawback is the set is missing standalone deleted scenes and production footage that was featured on the 1995 2-VHS set released by Anchor Bay. Although some such footage is in the documentary, it would have been nice to see these as a branching feature, or by themselves as a special feature.
Overall, this is really giving a horror classic the respect and treatment it deserves.
What's great about it: Great movie, prestine transfe
What's not so great: lacks production footage and deleted scenes

Excellent Concert Blu-ray
on July 8, 2008

If you are not a fan of Celine Dion, this blu-ray is clearly not for you. With extra features that boggle the mind, "A New Day" is one of the more comprehensive concert dvds I have ever seen. The two-disc set includes the full length concert in amazing picture quality. Disc two houses special features that are not to be missed... an unfiltered behind the scenes look at the backstage area is simply hypnotic to watch -- it runs the entire concert length on a split screen (in some cases) that shows backstage as well as what is going on up on stage simutaneously. Other featurettes include a documentary on a few select fans who get to live their dream of meeting Celine in person and their reactions to her Vegas show.
A great purchase for any Celine Dion fan.
What's great about it: Superior picture quality and sound
What's not so great: only for Celine fans

They may look cute, but there's nothing nice about the characters in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. This fighting frenzy will have you inflicting painful KO's on familiar opponents you thought were your friends. Take your frustrations out on Link, Mario and other characters from throughout the gaming world. Shoot spaceships out of the sky in the Lylat System from the Star Fox games and deal out killer blows in Rumble Falls based on the look and feel of Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat.Hit opponent after opponent to build up your damage meter, then knock your enemies clear off the screen. Rely on weapons that are silly but very effective, such as banana peels, pitfalls, gooey bombs and many more. Hurl old-school crates and barrels or select from Assist Trophies and Poke Balls to strike fear in the hearts of your foes. Combine Standard, Strong and Smash attacks to bash your way to victory. There are so many ways to smash, you'll get lost in the melees for hours on end.

The Best Smash Bros Yet
on July 7, 2008

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is easily going to go down as one of the best (and best selling) Wii games in history, just as SSB did with the N64 and GameCube. The sheer idea of battling it out with your favorite Nintendo characters is a draw itself, but now with the inclusion of third party greats like Snake and Sonic, the game got even better.
Using backdrops from Nintendo's vast library of catalog titles (such as the original Mario Bros. arcade game, Aminal Crossing, etc) and classic characters like ROB the Robot and Ice Climbers, SSBB is a game with replay value like no other. The Wii controls take some getting used to, but you can use the Classic Controller for the more old school feel.
The only drawback would be the online component. Thanks to Nintendo's tight lock on online playablity (to protect children), there is no voice chat or anyway to communicate with people you fight against online... part of the fun of fighting with friends is the trash talk! But its only a small complaint because overall, the game was well worth the multiple delays. Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be played for years to come.
What's great about it: Incredibly High Replay Value
What's not so great: Simplistic online mode

Room to Improve

Singstar makes its way onto the PS3, boasting 1080p graphics and lots of downloadable content. If you have played this series on PS2, not much has changed here. The online aspect is limited to sharing song and video files (via the PlayStation Eye) to your friends and Singstar community, but there is no actual online competition. The music videos playing in the background are also in standard definition. Around thirty songs are included on the disc, while there are hundreds available to download for a nominal fee.
This one is still a great party game, but lets hope the next incarnation includes some real online competitive play.
What's great about it: Lots of Downloadable Content
What's not so great: Limited Online Interactivity

Yet Another One

Amy Grant has had a long and successful run as a vocalist within the Christian and Contemporary Pop circles, with a career that has spanned over three decades. She has had about three other Greatest Hits packages come out, but this one, simply called "Greatest Hits", is the first one to span her entire career. Oddly sequenced, it starts with her most recent radio hit "Simple Things" and works its way backwards to "Old Man's Rubble" from 1977. Amy's catalog of songs was recently purchased by EMI, and they have done a marvelous job of remastering work, and you can tell it on this disc. But with multiple other hits cds out there, and a track list that includes just 19 songs... this collection doesn't feel complete. And what's more, they are just the standard cd versions, and not the remixed radio versions most people remember. If you are just looking for a quick grouping of her most popular (if not the best in substance) songs remastered, get this one... otherwise, this will leave most die-hard Amy fans wanting more.
What's great about it: Remastered
What's not so great: 3rd Hits Album for Amy

Sleek and reliable phone

Nokia has long been known as the king of cellular reception and quality, and this phone is no exception. Coming with bluetooth capabilities and a vga camera, the 2760 is a serviceable phone featuring shiny blue casing that feels good in your hand. Instant messengers are built in and battery life is second to none. A very worthy addition to the T-Mobile prepaid lineup.
What's great about it: Nokia quality
What's not so great: vga camera

Great collection

Unlike the other "Greatest Hits" collection released in 2000, this one has all of Paula's hits -- including ones left off that former cd ("Will You Marry me?") and rare radio mixes that all of her fans will appreciate having. It is a great collection of songs that no Paula fan should be without.
What's great about it: All her hit songs
What's not so great: none

I heard the game was available since May 30th, maybe this is not the right place to find it.
It was released in Japan on May 30th. It will be released in the United States in September.
