Hail to the Heavy

Avenged Sevenold is back and they are mixing in some old school heavy metal to their great sound. While at first I was hesitant to pick up their latest album due to my indifferent opinion for their first single, I am glad that I bought it. Most of the tracks offer long term playability including Shepherd of fire, This means war, and Requiem along with others. Thanks to the bands continued devotion to rock music, I will always remain a fan.

A mixed bag

As a fan of Rob Zombie's previous films, I was anticipating The Lords of Salem. While I was ultimately disappointed with the film, I still found it to be enjoyable. Lords is not a film that I would recommend to the average film goer though. It is short on story, high on strange imagery, and laughable on some of the character designs. If you like slow build odd horror films, then I would recommend this film to you.

What's not so great: Underwhelming story

Finding an audience for The Warrior's Way
on May 4, 2013

The Warrior's way is one of those movies that while I enjoyed it, it would be hard to recommend to most people. Unless you are a fan of both western and martial arts genres, I couldn't really see one enjoying this flick. Each of the three main actors(Dong-Gun, Bosworth, and Rush) all play their parts well, but they never quite fully excelled in their rolls. I enjoyed the blend of genres and thought for the most part, each was given due respect in a semi silly way.
The video and audio quality are both a solid 4/5. Extras are very limited here so don't expect a lot of behind the scenes action.
For those who are fans of the 2 genres mentioned above give it a try. If you are not, this film is not for you.

What's not so great: Not for everyone

RDJ is Iron Man
on May 1, 2013

Iron Man took theaters by storm when it was released and I was truly impressed on opening weekend. The combination of Robert Disney Jr. As Tony Stark, the incredible effects, and compelling story of a mans transformation into a hero made this one of the best super hero movies of all time.
The picture and audio quality on the Blu-Ray disc are top notch. Being a one disc release the extras are lacking compared to the 2 disc. Overall, Iron Man is a highly recommended spectacle that needs to be seen.

Mary never gets old, but looks it
on April 27, 2013

It has been many years since I last watched There's Something About Mary and after viewing it again recently, Mary is as funny as ever. This is a golden comedy where everything seems to click and there really isn't anything to complain about when it comes to the movie. The video and audio quality on the other hand is a little lacking. Both to me would score a 3 out of 5 and its hard to understand why more time wasn't put into making the quality shine. Both just seem rather bland. Excellent movie, but only a small step up on the quality of the product.
What's great about it: Comedy genius
What's not so great: Video and audio quality

Hunkered aboard a sturdy military ship and triumphantly homeward bound, Xian Mei, Sam B and the rest of their battle-weary crew are able, at long last, to breathe a sigh of relief — or so they thought. Sure, they may have quelled the wave of zombies that attacked Banoi in Dead Island, but they forgot one rule that governs the sea — beware the Riptide. Just as their rescue helicopter touches down to safety on the ship deck, a furious monsoon ravages the hopes of our unfortunate protagonists and steers them on a direct course toward imminent doom — in yet another zombie-ridden town. An undead uproar is on the horizon once more — and this time, the carnage and chaos promise to be more rampant than ever. Pack your suitcase and load your weapons for another vacation on Dead Island. Rife with all of the mutant-zombie mayhem of the original, plus unforeseen new plot twists, challenges and features, Dead Island Riptide drags you to an all-new danger zone in the town of Henderson. Once a luxurious watering hole for the yacht-collecting upper class and tree-hugging eco-tourists, Henderson is now a storm-soaked ghost town, where only wreckage and occasional boats remain. But this port locale on the island of Palanai is also your one last hope for survival. Rally together with the surviving members of the team and orchestrate an elaborate defense using traps, fences and turrets to keep your brain-eating foes at bay. This time, the battle gets up-close and personal as a master of hand-to-hand combat joins the team as a fifth playable character. Take control of John Morgan's powerful fists and brawl against zombies like never before. Plus, collaborate more wisely with allies using new and enhanced features in co-op mode.

Back to a different Dead Island

When the original Dead Island first released it was met with decent fanfare and a few problems. It wasn't your typical first person game of this generation as most of the weapons available were not guns. This turned some people away, but those who stayed were rewarded with a very rewarding experience. Who would expect a resort to be loaded with guns anyhow.
I mention the original game first as the sequel is more or less the same experience with minor changes. Not that this is a bad thing, but those should be warned who either did not like the first or were burnt out on it. A few great additions include much more defend your camp missions with very pleasing results and you can also travel by boat now(pretty great replication of the real thing). The combat also feels a tad bit more fluid, but there are still hiccups. The missions are still basically fetch missions so not much change there.
In the end, if you liked the first Dead Island and you are not burned out, then pick up Riptide.

A grand Mummy adventure
on April 26, 2013

Although The Mummy was never going to win Best Picture, it excelled as being a grand action/adventure film that is sure to delight most audiences. The combination of Fraser and Weiss (great on screen couple) along with incredible special effects at its time(sand tidal wave anyone) made for a very fun movie. The locations and set pieces also deserve a nod as they really brought to life the world of The Mummy.
The Mummy has never looked better as is present here on Blu-Ray correctly replicating what was shown in theaters. The sound will surely give your audio system a work out too.

Discover The Thing
on April 26, 2013
Posted by: Countprice
from Knoxville, TN
The Thing is one of those movies that a fan of horror or science fiction should be required to watch. Every aspect from the plot(sometimes all the answers are not required), acting(one of my favorite Kurt Russel roles), and effects(looks much better than the recent prequel) make The Thing one of the best genre movies of all time.
Despite its obvious age, The Thing looks fantastic on Blu-Ray and the audio also does the job. The only thing lacking is special features.

What's great about it: Practical effects and everything else.
What's not so great: Very little to complain about.
