Lightweight and Responsive

I've tested the Roccat Kone Pro over the course of a few days, and it's now my mouse of choice. It's fast, has barely any weight, and it's Roccat brand which I've come to like (though their control software could use some optimization).
Out of the box, the Kone Pro feels good in the hand. It glides smoothly, and I don't detect any resistance. Its weight and ergonomical shape really contribute to what it's trying to achieve—comfortability. A heavier mouse means more inertia, so if you're about speed, I definitely suggest giving the Kone Pro a look, as it's moves fast and instantly.
The left and right buttons sound great. I don't know what it is, but I'm attracted to the sound. It's powerful and precise. The clicks also produce an instant response thanks to the optical Titan switches. This is great, again, if you rely on speed. I also enjoy the RGB coming through the honeycomb shell of the buttons. It's subtle yet vibrant.
The PhantomFlex cable lends to a nearly wireless experience. I chose the Kone Pro since it's wired for virtually zero delay, but I do enjoy the feel of being wireless. It's a welcome addition to the mouse when it comes to gaming, or any application really. I do have a bungee, but it may not be necessary with the cable.
The mouse wheel is made of aluminum, which helps keep the mouse light, but it does have a cheap feel. That said, I don't expect to encounter any negative occurrences. In fact I quite like the treading on it.
With all this said, I highly suggest downloading and installing the Roccat Swarm software if you haven't had any Roccat devices prior to this one, as you'll unlock feature customization.
Roccat is known for gaming, and so if you're looking for something to aid your game, look here first when it comes to speed.

Wonderful Appliance to Have!
on February 4, 2021

I'll quickly say that this handheld blender very quickly exceeded our expectations.
It's super easy to get going straight from the box. It looks and feels high quality. I really like the hold-button function to operate the blender instead of an on/off switch.
My wife first wanted to make milkshakes. We used the immersion blender wand after first chopping up some chocolate bars in the chopper. The chopper had no issues chopping them up, and we probably should have used it in less time, as it worked too well! The blender took little time itself to mix everything into the milkshake and made no mess. We also made some gravy for one of our meals with the whisk attachment, and I've got nothing bad to say here; it whisked the gravy very well, and beats having to use the wrist.
The main body is a little heavy, but you shouldn't have to hold it for any extended period of time that it becomes exhausting to hold.
It's also extremely easy to clean up. I definitely dread having to clean up after a meal or a treat, but it takes no time at all to clean up the attachments after use.
In the use that we've given it, everything looks like it'll hold up for a long time with proper use (I highly recommend reading the owner's manual for tips). We are looking forward to continuing to use this blender for all kinds of meal prep!

Misses the Mark
on January 20, 2021

The ZenBook Flip 15 Q528EH is powerful, but at the same time, it feels like it's missing something. You're getting a lot of power but at what cost?
From the box, the ZenBook Flip 15 is very sleek. The gray color is nice. It opens and shuts with ease. And the power brick is low-profile and can fit in any kind of space.
I like the amount of SSD space. I feel as though 512GB is pretty standard these days. Even the 16GB of RAM is a must-have for many applications, so this laptop scores another checkmark. Make no mistake; this laptop is super fast.
When it comes to graphical capabilities, being equipped with a GTX1650 Max-Q is par. Could it have been tuned up with what many applications and games ask for today? Sure. But it gets the job done. Out-of-the-box, you'll get a standard performance with all of these specs.
And here is where things go bad. Now, I can't ding it too bad for this, since it's a laptop, but the ZenBook Flip 15 gets hot. Super hot. I'm saying it really feels like it's burning you. I'd definitely avoid placing this laptop anywhere on your lap. Instead, I recommend investing in a cooling pad.
The display is sub-par. I've seen it many times before—the built-in display is often neglected in terms of putting qualitiy into the unit, and this one is no exception. Colors aren't popping out the way I expect, It's got a 60Hz refresh rate, but it doesn't feel like it. But hey; at least it has one.
I wanted to try playing a game with my wife, so we got out a mouse and headset for the laptop. And that's where the problem instantly started. The ZenBook Flip 15 has a SINGLE USB-A port. I've never seen that. It was rather frustrating, as I feel at least two ports is practically standard with any motherboard. Not here, apparently. We were at least able to use the headphone jack to connect some earbuds and play that way. Of course this can be circumvented with a USB hub or USB-C adapter, but out-of-the-box, this was upsetting, as many devices today still use USB-A.
I'm disappointed here, as I've had a good experience with ASUS in the past. This isn't a bad laptop, but it's not a good one either. It wasn't quite as versatile as I expected it to be. It may miss the mark for some people, or it may be just fine for those not asking for much beyond speed. Make sure to look around a little more before considering if the ZenBook Flip 15 Q528EH is the best choice.

Great Cordless Performance
on November 16, 2020
Posted by: tgharrell
One of the first things I noticed when I unpackaged the Samsung Jet 75 was how light the vacuum was. Pushing a heavier vacuum around, especially when covering a lot of area, tends to get tiresome. I never find my arm getting tired with this.
Upon turning the vacuum on, I was surprised that it makes so little noise, yet has great suction power. The soft action brush did a lot of work on my vinyl flooring on the low setting alone. I did find that you'll want a mid or max setting for carpet while using the turbo action brush if you really want it to do some work. I didn't try the vacuum on my area rug, as it's high pile. The mini-motorized tool is relatively gentle yet effective on bedding, allowing the material to maintain its quality. I like the rubbery material the brush is made of, as it really helps to pick up hair, lint, and other stubborn matter. It works well on upholstery too, though the combination tool is also an option.
The battery has enough juice to cover a lot of area. I managed to cover about 500 square feet and some bedding and upholstery, and drained around 30-50% of the battery after charging it to full. Not too bad, in my opinion.
Clean-up is super easy, and tool maintenance is just as simple. I do wish there was an easier way to remove hair and such from the brushes other than scissors.
I'd recommend this just for the fact that it's light and versatile. Being cordless is, of course, a huge plus. If you are covering a large area and want to get it done in one fell swoop, get an extra battery—these things take around three hours to charge to full, and you'll only get about 30-60 minutes of vacuuming depending on the power settings you're using. Otherwise the one included will do. Have fun cleaning!

Good Quality for the Price
on October 20, 2020
Posted by: tgharrell
I always seem to be in search of a good headset. Something doesn't work as intended, or the lack in quality means it's showing a lot of wear and I need a new one. The Elo 7.1 Air is a promising headset, and hopefully I won't need another one anytime soon.
Unlike my previous headset, the Elo 7.1 Air isn't heavy. I instantly noticed that It fits great and feels great. I tested several different audio sources, and the quality is pretty good. It dare say that it rivals other headsets twice its price. Sound come through clear and crisp, and lows feel good. It picks up all frequencies very well and outputs them in the same fashion—even the slightest noises, I've noticed.
Now this is a wireless headset. I personally hate wired headsets unless you're getting amazing quality no other way. While this does mean you have to charge the headset, I'm quite satisfied with how long the charge lasts before needing to charge. I've used it for several hours already and not even at 50% charge remaining. Kudos for not skimping on battery.
It's already a great headset, but you can get more with the ROCCAT Swarm application. You'll get to customize standard features like EQ, and noise cancellation, but you can also turn on 7.1 virtual surround sound and super human hearing among other things. The Elo 7.1 Air is USB-only (wireless, so naturally it has its own audio drivers. I've not had good experiences with USB headsets, but I'm happy to say that the 7.1 virtual surround sound works well. It's not amazing, but it handles the sound as you'd expect. The super-human hearing feature boosts certain frequencies, but I personally prefer it off as the sounds coming through seem too processed.
Now I don't get RGB lighting with a headset (you can't personally see it), but if you want to show off, the AIMO lighting effects are pretty neat. I like to sync all my AIMO devices so that they glow wonderful colors together.
The only small con here is that I wish the mic was a sturdy piece and not wiry. It still works very well.
I'm satisfied with the overall performance and quality that the Elo 7.1 Air headset delivers and would recommend it to anyone seeking an overall solid headset.

Stellar Piece of Hardware
on October 20, 2020
Posted by: tgharrell
I'll be honest: it's been years since I've touched a mechanical keyboard. They're so clacky and prone to breaking. But my setup needed an upgrade. So I've spent some time with the Vulcan 121 AIMO, and it's amazing. It's a beast of tech.
From the start, I noticed that it's more comfortable than what I remember a mechanical keyboard feeling like. And for a mechanical keyboard, it's actually pretty quiet! With the anodized aluminum base and super smooth key caps, it feels and looks high-quality. I enjoy how dark it is and how the light comes through both the switch and the caps.
The Vulcan 121 AIMO features Titan Switches. There's a lot of tiny tech in each switch, but ultimately the actuation distance is pretty short, and this is what allows me to remain as quiet as I want while typing—no loud clacking. I've noticed an incredibly fast response rate with the key strokes. I'm not as much of a twitch gamer as I used to be, but ROCCAT claims it's as fast as Cherry MX.
The AIMO lighting engine makes this already beautiful keyboard even prettier. There are a few lighting settings, but I prefer the AIMO lighting. It responds to key presses, even holding a key. And it cycles through colors beautifully and organically, syncing with my other AIMO devices.
If you download the ROCCAT Swarm application, you'll unlock all kinds of neat customization. The neatest thing to me is the fact that every single key can be assigned a function. I haven't gotten to explore this feature in its entirety, but the list of functions is exhaustive, from basic functions like that annoying Caps Lock to opening practically any kind of file.
If I had to think of something that this keyboard lacks in, it's that maybe it could use a few more media keys, but at least you can customize two of these in Swarm. I love every other feature that this keyboard sports and can't wait to do even more with it.
If you're looking for a mechanical keyboard for gaming, or you just like the pretty RGB lighting that everyone else seems to have, do yourself a favor and look into the Vulcan 121 AIMO.

Take on the enemy in comfort with this ergonomic ROCCAT Kone AIMO gaming mouse. The onboard memory saves macros and button assignments, while the Owl-Eye sensor with a 100-12,000 dpi range lets you adjust pointer sensitivity. This black ROCCAT Kone AIMO gaming mouse has a tri-button thumb zone and 4-D Titan wheel for vast control, and the 1ms response time enables fast action during FPS sessions.

Near Perfect
on October 20, 2020
Posted by: tgharrell
The Kone AIMO quickly replaced my previous gaming mouse for a number of reasons, and it's near perfect with one small caveat which I'll get to.
First, this mouse feels great. My thumb can relax quite nicely in the recess between the macro buttons. It glides incredibly well, and the precision is outstanding. Speed is often important to me, and the Kone AIMO delivers.
I've found this mouse to be very customizable in terms of inner features. For that you need ROCCAT's own Swarm software. When I booted up Swarm, I was surprised with the number of different adjustments I could make—vertical scroll speed, pointer speed, DPI, angle snapping, and more. I can get up to 16,000 DPI (though I never go that high myself) with five different DPI switches that you can even toggle on and off. And twelve buttons must mean twelve customizable assignments, right? Nope; easy-shift lets you map two settings to each button, which I find to be very useful for a number of different apps that I use.
I imagine many are attracted by the lighting capabilities. The AIMO lighting is actually very neat. It comes up with some interesting lighting effects, almost like it's living. But it's even neater when you have multiple AIMO devices, as you can sync them all together to produce the same lighting effects. It's also worth mentioning that it reacts to button presses and mouse wheel movement.
Sadly, this mouse is hard-wired. My previous mouse allowed me to go wired or wireless, and it was my hope this one would do the same, but alas, it doesn't. The USB cable can sometimes resist my movements, which I've found to be less than acceptable in situations that require precision. I suggest getting something that can help mitigate this.
With twelve customizable buttons and easy-shift, there's a lot that you can do with the Kone AIMO. And you can make all the adjustments you need to make this mouse yours. I do wish it was wireless or even had the capability to go back and forth, but it's definitely not a feature that should make you reconsider.

I Love This Monitor
on August 24, 2020
Posted by: tgharrell
This gaming monitor is great, and I'm very pleased with the quality. The size is perfect, it's sturdy, and the display is bright and vivid, not to mention super-responsive.
The Dell S2721DGF has all I need for the kind of simple but qualitiative gaming setup I want. I use my Dell G5 15 laptop for gaming, and all the features of it are great, except for the standard 15.6" display. It holds back its power, and I can totally tell when I connect it to this monitor. It's almost twice the size of typical laptop screens, and I'm able to push out QHD resolution compared to my usual full HD, and as a gamer, it makes a difference.
Speaking of what makes a difference, I've never experienced any refresh rate beyond 60Hz. This monitor gets 144Hz, or even 165Hz with a DisplayPort connection, which is what I have. I don't run all games beyond 60Hz, but the ones I do are extremely smooth, especially at 165Hz. I push the refresh to the max so I get the most out of the G-Sync feature as well. It feels so good to experience no screen tearing. It really is a great piece of technology packed into this monitor.
Also worthy of note are both the HDR technology and response time. You have a few HDR options, but I usually have it set on Game HDR, as the colors are vibrant but not oversaturated. It really makes everything in screen pop. And the 1ms response time is almost a necessity and any competitive setting. I tested out a few FPS games in my library, and the response time combined with high refresh rates give me the edge I needed. I prefer controllers over a mouse and keyboard, but these features have caused me to reconsider.
If you are looking for a solid gaming experience as far as a display but don't need tons of features, definitely consider the Dell S2721DGF. You won't regret your decision if you go with this monitor.

Very Low-Profile and Simple. Almost Too Simple
on July 17, 2020
Posted by: tgharrell
The ecobee SmartSensor is easy to set up and get going. I do like how small they are, and how you can set them up practically anywhere.
Since I don't have a SmartThermostat, these aren't too useful. While they have multiple sensors within, they're really only useful if you have an ecobee SmartThermostat. They'll only act as motion detectors without one, at which point you're better off with something that is dedicated to motion detection. And we've had some issues with ecobee Haven, so we don't seem to get any notifications, which is about all we'll get out of them.
These aren't really a must-have unless you really want to monitor even the smallest things.

Low-Profile Sensor That Works Great
on July 17, 2020
Posted by: tgharrell
There isn't much that needs to be said about the ecobee SmartSensor for doors and windows. I only tested one, but it's incredibly low-profile, and work just as intended (outside of the ecobee Haven feature).
I actually had a small problem with the setup. Before doing anything, I would HIGHLY recommend you first start with the app and adding devices from there. I had already understood what I needed to do by removing the block between the battery and device (which also has an important QR code on it), but the instructions in the app—which are super clear and concise, by the way—first want you to begin the instructions before removing the block, as it asks you to scan the QR code on the block, or enter a code manually. By the time I began adding the device through the app, it wasn't detecting the SmartSensor, and this caused me to have to unplug my SmartCamera, restart my phone, and open the SmartSensor to disable the battery for some two minutes. This then allowed me to start the process over.
Once I got past the problem, the rest of the instructions had the SmartSensor up and running in a few minutes. I had one connected to my sliding door, and it works perfectly. The range is great, and the reported battery life of three years is quite sufficient. If you have ecobee Haven, it'll alert you to anything going on at locations where the SmartSensor is installed. It sounds nice, but unfortunately I was having issues with my system detecting whether I was at home or away, so I didn't get any notifications. We hope this starts working better in the near future for better security.
