Ninja Foodi's TenderCrisp pressure cooker allows you to achieve all the quick cooking and tenderizing wonders that you love about pressure cookers. The Foodi's Crisping Lid allows you to air fry, bake/roast, and broil. That means you can give your tender, juicy pressure-cooked meals a golden, crispy finish. The secret is TenderCrisp Technology, which produces the perfect combination of heat, fan velocity, and air circulation to give your food even crisping from top to bottom.

Utility Player Cooker
on October 13, 2018
Posted by: cjviscito
from Little Elm, TX, USA
My wife has been hearing her friends tell her about the new wave of pressure cookers that everyone seems to have. One of the things I like about the Ninja Foodie is that it's not a one-trick pony. The Foodie was nice because it's a pressure cooker as well as an air fryer all-in-one. It advertises that it can handle a 4-pound roast or up to 3-pounds of fries. It also comes with plenty of extra attachments to try out.
Kitchen space is at a premium in our house, so if we get a small kitchen appliance, it's got to serve more than one purpose. First thing to note is this thing is large - and with the pressure cooker vent on the rear of the top, I'd recommend not using this under any cabinets.
We fired it up and made some delicious pulled pork. What my wife liked was that what would normally take 4 or 5 hours in a slow cooker only took 45 minutes from start to finish. Considering this thing took a 3 pound pork shoulder and cooked it in about 25 minutes is awesome.
The Foodie comes with some cool recipes to try out - and since we both love pulled pork, we went with that. The biscuits and pork were delicious! Clean up was also easy, the pan has a non-stick coating that makes washing it a breeze.
Two words of caution:
1) The non-stick pan is coated, so don't use metal utensils or they could chip or scratch the coating. We use rubber-coated tongs and a wooden spatula and they worked like a dream. Also, make sure you don't use any Brillo or steel wool pads to clean.
2) The pressure vent is located on the top-rear of the lid. So if you're cooking with the pressure part, I'd recommend to use it on an island or someplace with plenty of open space - you might end up damaging your cabinets or anything that's in the path of the steam.
Only real design gripe I have - which admittedly is small - is that when you're pressure cooking, the air fryer lid stays attached and open. It's not an elegant solution but considering I get an air fryer and pressure cooker in one, I'm really not complaining.

Excellent Speaker - Love this Thing!
on September 27, 2018
Posted by: cjviscito
from Little Elm, TX, USA
First and foremost, I love this speaker!
Logitech's new line of Ultimate Ears doesn't disappoint. I've tried several bluetooth speakers that are waterproof, but this one is only the second one I've found that combines waterproofing design with awesome, fully realized sound.
Right out of the box, the BOOM 3 is about the same size as my Echo Tap - maybe slightly bigger. Like the Echo Tap, the BOOM 3 can be charged by the supplied micro-USB cable or, as an extra purchase, Logitech's charging puck base. I held off on buying the charging base until I was sure that this speaker would be a keeper, but now it looks like it'll have to get added to my shopping list.
In terms of design, there's a micro-USB charging port on the back, and the top has 2 buttons: The power button and the magic button. Admittedly, I thought the magic button was more of a gimmick than feature, but I've come to love using it. A quick press pauses and plays, a double-tap skips to the next song in your queue, and a long hold will move to the next playlist. I'll get to that last part below in the companion app part.
The setup was quick and painless - and while I usually complain about having to download companion apps (because they tend to be bloatware), the Logitech BOOM app has something that I sorely missed in other speakers: a customizable equalizer!
Part of the setup process included adding up to 4 playlists to the BOOM's quick play feature. Using the magic button, you can long-press and skip from playlist to playlist. Just to be clear - this isn't storing music on the speaker itself, there's not a hard drive or anything. It's playing the music from your paired phone.
In terms of battery, I've used this thing for several days at an hour or two at a time and haven't worn it down. I decided to give this thing a test and use it in the shower and it blew me away! Using the equalizer option for "enclosed space", I can jam out in the shower to my kind of music without making the entire house listen in as well.
Make no mistake - this thing easily kicks out the noise! You crank it up high enough and it'll get plenty loud.
The only reason I rated this item as 4 stars was due to the lack of an Aux input - not a huge deal breaker, but would've certainly made this thing a home run in my book.
The BOOM is priced around $150 - which is in line with more full-feature devices, like the ones from Sony. It's definitely not the cheapest speaker out there, but I've come to expect a certain level of quality from Logitech and the BOOM 3 is another solid product.

High Hopes, but just Average
on September 16, 2018

I've had great luck with LG products in the past, so I had high hopes for the new PK3 speaker. Between working in the yard, taking kids to the beach and pool, we need a bluetooth speaker that's water proof and mostly kid proof. We took the PK3 out for a spin and while we weren't overwhelmed or underwhelmed, we were just OK.
The design of the speaker is nice and compact, which is nice. It's nowhere near as big and bulky as the PK5 or PK7 - which almost remind me old school 80's cassette boom boxes with their handle design. However, the there are some compromises with the design of the PK3.
For starters, the back panel that covers the Aux-in and USB-C charging port is super tight - I mean like break-a-nail tight. I ended up having to use my car keys to gently pry it open. I get that the speaker is water proof and such, but I've used other water proof speakers in the past that haven't had this issue. IT's nice when it gets wet, to know that the ports are protected, but when you need to charge it or connect an Aux-in, have some keys or a nail file or something ready.
LG made a big deal of "Meridian Technology" in the marketing and packaging. At low / standard volumes though, the bass-boost option left the sound feeling anemic, light, like bass boost was somehow treble boost instead. I got better bass by turning it odd at lower volumes. When I crank it up, the bass boost is more noticeable, but it's never fully realized. There's other waterproof bluetooth speakers on the market that have a more fully realized sound.
Usually I gripe when accessories require companion Apps - however, I was actually disappointed to see that the PK3 didn't have one. I was expecting some way to control the equalizer or something, but nothing - you're left managing the sound through whatever device you've paired it with.
From a button panel aspect, the PK3 has some nice touches - traditional playback options are there, but it also has a microphone option that enables you to active Siri on your iPhone or take a phone call.
If you're in the market for a basic bluetooth speaker, then the PK3 might be what you're looking for. If you want something that has more customization or control options - then you'll need to look at a higher end unit. If you can get this unit on sale, I say go for it. If it's not on sale, then I'd say save your dollars.

Experience immersive Dolby Atmos sound through a single device with this Sony sound bar. It connects to your TV wirelessly or with an HDMI cable, and it pairs with Bluetooth devices for audio streaming. This Sony sound bar includes the Vertical Sound Engine, which eliminates the need for ceiling-mounted speakers.

Good Soundbar with some trade-offs
on August 14, 2018
Posted by: cjviscito
from Little Elm, TX, USA
I was excited to upgrade from an older sounder to this one purely because of the support for Dolby Atmos and the powered, wireless sub woofer. We already have a Sony UHD player so I thought, great - this'll play nicely. It does have some bells and whistles that are nice, but there are some trade offs to be sure.
First, the sound bar itself is very slim, as you can see in my picture. The Samsung soundbar we upgraded from was quite large and was actually kept in the space where we ended up moving our UHD player and game consoles to in our TV stand. The main reason we couldn't just replace the soundbar was because the Sony uses a Vertical Sound feature. This pushes sound up to make it more immersive, but when kept in a tv stand cutout, you lose that capability, meaning a re-thinking of our setup was required.
The sounder itself comes with 3 connection types: HDMI-ARC, Optical, and Bluetooth. In order to get the Atmos experience, you need to utilize the HDMI-ARC connection and have a TV that supports it. Our TV supports Atmos, so that means we get to enjoy great sound out of every input. The Optical connection is there for older TVs that don't support the HDMI-ARC format and Bluetooth is added for pairing a smart phone to stream music from. Although Sony advertises a wireless setup option using Bluetooth, I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking to get the best sound out of your setup.
What's nice about this unit is that it also supports HDMI passthrough. There's another HDMI input so you can plug a device into this and then run the HDMI-ARC out to the HDMI-ARC input on your TV.
I was disappointed to see that there was no wifi option, nor does this come with any smart home option. You can't control it using Sony's Sound+ app like you can their headphones or other wifi speakers. I feel like this is a step back when most soundbar setups at this price offer wifi and a smart assistant feature.
The woofer connects automatically once you power it on - an important thing to note is that both the bar and the woofer have the power cord attached, meaning you might need to be aware of some more fun getting power cables through your set up - unlike other sounders that have a power cord that you can detach.
Once I got this thing up and running it was nice - everything sounded great, until we got to the quiet part of a movie. Dialog suffers compared to music and sound effects. The woofer itself has it's own volume control on the remote, but I ended up cranking it all the way up before I could hear some bass boom.
If you have a smaller room, or a basic setup that you don't want to overthink, then I'd recommend this. That being said, there's other soundbars that are a comparable price that also include additional features such as Alexa, Google Home, Wifi, etc. If Sony was to drop the price from $500 to $300, then I think it'd be more reasonable, unless they find a way to add more features through a firmware upgrade. I'd say I'd recommend this, but for a very specific user who doesn't need a lot of connectivity options.

A great Soundbar marred by an inconsistent App
on July 17, 2018
Posted by: cjviscito
from Little Elm, TX, USA
I really wanted to like the Sonos Beam - I really did. The physical item itself is sleek, compact and doesn't disappoint with room-filling, thumping sound. My main hang-up is with the inconsistent and frankly menu-heavy, horrible user experience of their mandatory companion App.
From a connectivity stance, the Beam sports a single HDMI-ARC connection. Unlike other soundbars that also include HDMI pass through with this option, the Beam wants to dominate the HDMI-ARC port on the TV. This is problematic for people like me that have several items plugging into the TV with a single audio line going out. I tried to get this working in my media room with our 65" 4K OLED TV, but it wouldn't work right with the Logitech Harmony that I had - because the Beam requires infrared remote control signals and my TV uses Bluetooth with the remote.
So I moved it to our bedroom - one of the saving graces is that the Beam comes with an HDMI-to-Optical connector, so I was able to plug in the supplied HDMI cable and connect it to the Optical Audio Out port on the back of my bedroom TV.
The setup was particularly painful because the Sonos App is not a good user experience. Out of the box, the Beam needed an update which was an immediate buzzkill. It was made worse because the Sonos App kept loosing connectivity in my house - which is odd, because we have a mesh WiFi system and can stream 4K content with no problem.
Once I finally got the Beam set up, it took some trial and error to get it to respond to the TV remote control. I still haven't been able to successfully complete the Tuning option. For whatever reason, the Beam and iOS App keep dropping connectivity. fSomething to be aware of, the Sonos App doesn't support iOS betas, public or developer. Luckily, I had my old iPhone 6 that I was able to use to finish getting some of the kinks worked out.
I would recommend the Sonos Beam for anyone who's already invested in the Sonos ecosystem, needs a basic setup, or simply wants to stream music. This thing sounds beautiful once it's up and running. The main problem is getting the thing up and running. Hopefully, it's because it's a new product, so they'll work out the bugs on the Sonos side soon. If you have a complicated setup, or anything pretty customized, then I'd suggest looking for another option that allows HDMI-ARC passthrough and has more options for the $400 price point.

Solid smart bulbs with room for improvement
on June 21, 2018
Posted by: cjviscito
from Little Elm, TX, USA
I was looking for smart bulbs for our bedroom lamps. We previously used smart plugs to handle them, but because I'd pieced our smart home setup based on what was on sale at the time, there were several different apps that controlled the 3 lamps in our room.
What attracted me to try out the Sengled setup was that it came with 3 bulbs, so everything we'd need was in the box. Getting everything setup was a breeze. The hub was already set to recognize the bulbs that shipped with it so I didn't have to fight with each bulb to pair them.
Interestingly enough, the Hub requires a physical connection to my router but looked to the wifi setup for the bulbs. What wasn't cool was that I was out of outlets near my router. What I did find though, was that since the hub's power cable ends with a USB-A dongle, I was able to power it using an open USB port on my router itself.
The app does leave some room to be desired, on my iPhone X, I didn't know that I had to scroll down to find a save button that was hidden when I was setting my timers. Also, while the bulbs support dimming, they come right on when the timer turns them on, so there's no gentle ramping up.
If you want a basic, easy to use smart bulb setup that works with Alexa, then you should check these out.

Another awesome Belkin charger
on June 21, 2018
Posted by: cjviscito
from Little Elm, TX, USA
I've had great luck with Belkin chargers and other accessories in the past, but I've been reluctant to jump on board the wireless charging train.
Call me old fashioned, but I didn't understand the point of a wireless charging pad when a dock could charge, sync, and backup my devices in iTunes.
I bit the bullet and got this since it was touted as a faster charging solution. This thing is awesome - it's so dead simple to just put my phone on it to charge. I have my iPhone X in a standard Apple leather case, and the device charges just fine. I also turned on WiFi Sync with my Mac so that it could still sync when on the charger.
The puck itself is on the smaller side compared to some of the other pads I've seen. It has an LED to tell you if you're charging something that's Qi compatible. It'll be a solid white if it's charging, or an amber light if you've placed something on it that's not Qi compatible.

Nice Addition to Kasa Setup
on June 6, 2018
Posted by: cjviscito
from Little Elm, TX, USA
We added this to control a fan in our family room that was controlled by 2 different switches. The setup was super easy since we've already got other Kasa devices in our smart home setup.
Here's some installation tips:
1- Turn off your breakers. This should go without saying, but you cannot safely replace a light switch or outlet with the breaker still on. If you don't know what a breaker is, then look it up or call an electrician.
2- Check your wires. Most homes built recently will have a white / neutral wire. You'll need to connect the wires correctly and ensure that you have a neutral wire, otherwise the smart aspect of the switch won't work.
3 - Make sure the switch fits before you screw back in the cover plate. I was able to add this to an existing 3-switch plate, but as someone who's replaced all the basic switches with the wider flat ones, take it from me and make sure they're positioned correctly before you tighten them in.
Once we were up in running, our Kasa app and Echo found this right away. Very happy with this!

OLED TV of my Dreams!
on May 17, 2018
Posted by: cjviscito
from Little Elm, TX, USA
We had an LG 65" 4K LCDTV in our main room. It was nice to watch movies on our Apple TV 4K, Sony UHD player and PS4 / X-Box One. As nice as it was, we were always a bit wary since we got it as a Best Buy floor model / return. It didn't have a remote or anything. I'd been researching OLED vs LCD technology to understand the difference.
Let me say, it's visually striking.
In a nutshell, LCD uses a backlight to create the image, so you'll never get true black. With OLED TVs, each pixel illuminates on their own, so if a pixel needs to show black, it doesn't light, meaning you get true blacks. This also allows for the TV to be amazingly thing since there's no backlight to accommodate. Our previous TV also only supported HDR in a single HDMI input, my guess is because it was still in it's infancy in the consumer space.
We saw this TV and my wife and I both fell in love with the design, picture, and features. This TV is a SmartTV, meaning you'll be able to access things like Hulu, YouTube or Netflix without having to connect a dedicated streaming device. It's also billed as a TV with AI - but you can relax, it's not true AI, but it does support a deep integration with Alexa / Google Home. Our Echo is paired with a Logitech bridge, so I didn't have any need to activate that particular feature in the TV.
The TV speakers support Dolby Atmos audio which sounds fantastic. I push the audio into a sounder setup that I have, but honestly, the TV sounds just as good as the sound bar in our room. I'm sure I could get much better quality sound if I hooked it up to a premium system, so something to save up for!
One thing I love with this TV setup is the inputs. It comes with 4 HDMI inputs that support HDR as well as one that supports HDMI-ARC. Oddly enough, it also comes with a connection that allows an old-school composite connection. In case you're curious how a PS2 game looks on a 4K screen, it's not that great. But I was able to play my old PS2 games, which was cool. It does upconvert content to 4K, but with some hits and misses. For example, the PS2 picture looked bad because it's an older, analog signal. But our regular Blu Rays and HD movies on iTunes, Netflix and Amazon Video looked amazing.
If you're an Apple TV user like I am, you should also know that this TV supports Dolby Vision for the Apple TV 4K. The motion, contrast, colors, they're all freaking brilliant!
This is a premium TV with premium features. At $4,000 it's certainly not a cheap investment, but this TV makes us feel like we have a real theater in our house. We decided that we'd make the investment and enjoy some premium features. In hindsight, I'm so glad my wife agreed!

I love this razor!
on April 19, 2018
Posted by: cjviscito
from Little Elm, TX, USA
I picked this up to replace an old Norelco razor I've had for years. What I liked about this one was the fact that you could use it wet or dry. My original Norelco one wasn't wet-friendly, so I couldn't use it in the shower - plus, I had to shave dry.
The 3000 can be used in the shower, at the sink, on wet skin or dry. I've used it across all the different ways. Using it dry is great for quick trims on the go. The shower option is nice, but I do most of my shaving over a sink, so the ability to use it wet / dry is a nice option to have.
Like all other Norelco products I've had, you cannot use this plugged in, so if you let it die, you need to wait for it to recharge. I'm sure that's a safety feature of some sort, so just be aware. The 3000 says it can run for 50 minutes before needing a recharge. I usually use it throughout the week and then let it charge over the weekend.
At $65 bucks too, it's actually cheaper than the old Norelco I tossed out. The blades aren't bad either, I think they're about $25 to replace, so that's not bad compared to buying straight razor cartridge replacements.

Shark AI Robot VACMOP combines powerful vacuum suction and hard floor wet mopping for a complete clean, all in one robot. Features include: Shark suction power, Sonic Mopping that delivers 100 scrubs per minute for stuck-on stains, and AI Laser Navigation for precision cleaning.

"We would like to let you know that this Robot also works to vacuum carpets." This is the response that I got when I asked "Does it work on carpet?" Sounds to me that it doesn't work on carpet but they want you to buy it anyway.

The beater bar on this doesn't look like it's meant to get into the fibers of the carpet. I don't have it vacuum mine, I have it only for the hard floors.

I paired mine with my existing Arlo hub - but it does appear to indicate you can use it without one.

Does this instant pot have WiFi capabilities ?

Not that I'm aware of - InstantPot's website doesn't mention any WiFi capabilities and I've never seen a new cooker show up on my home WiFi map. :)

Stream audio while charging your smartphone or tablet with this black Belkin CONNECT USB-C audio and charge adapter. The two ports both support charging and listening for effortless connection. This Belkin CONNECT USB-C audio and charge adapter delivers up to 60W of pass-through power and supports fast charging for compatible devices.

I need to know : it works like sígnale splitter ?

No - it won't split a signal to 2 USB-C devices. One USB-C port is for charging only and the other is for audio output. The device has picture indicators on it identifying which port is for charging (lightning bolt) and for audio (headphones).

Expand connectivity on your Apple MacBook Pro or Air with this gray HyperDrive DUO seven-in-two USB Type-C hub. Two USB Type-C ports support Power Delivery for charging mobile devices rapidly, while the HDMI output lets you connect a UHD display. This HyperDrive DUO seven-in-two USB Type-C hub has USB Type-A ports and microSD and SD card slots for fast data transfer.

Will the adapter fit comfortably if the computer is in a protective hard case/skin?

It will - but I found it to feel a bit shaky. I was worried that I'd break the USB-C ports on the hub off inside the MacBook.

I don’t believe so - I’ve been using mine fine without Assistive Touch turned on.

Unlock new potential for your wireless headphones with this Airfly headphone accessory. It plugs into any conventional headphone jack to enhance your listening experience and can pair with in-flight entertainment systems for added convenience. This Airfly headphone accessory has an eight-hour battery life and recharges through USB, so it's easy to take anywhere.

IS THIS EASY TO PAIR? IS IT NECESSARY TO PAIR EACH TIME THE TV AND HEADPHONES ARE TURNED ON, OR ONCE THE PAIR HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED CAN YOU FORGET ABOUT THE TRANSMITTER HANGING ON THE BACK OF THE TV? AND WHAT KIND OF RANGE DOES IT TRANSMIT?

I've never had an issue with mine losing / forgetting connection. I can't speak to range since I've only used it within a few feet at most, but I've had no issues.
