Good Option - but not for me

We have 2 young girls in our house and I'm always monitoring their digital time. I had been looking at the Circle with Disney at the store for a while, so when I saw Circle Plus I thought I'd give it a shot.
Setting up was straightforward enough, hook it up to my router and set up the app. We used it for about a week or so before I made the choice to unplug it. I wasn't really seeing any value outside of the Screentime settings on my girls' iPad minis. We already control their content and screen time settings on those devices and having to have something manage settings on top of already managed settings seemed a bit redundant.
If you're less technically inclined, or don't want to have to go through the trial and error of setting up Screentime on Apple devices, or have kids that will try and sneak gadget time after you've told them no - then this product might be what you're looking for. The premium features require a subscription, but I didn't see the point for us... so YMMV.

Another Belkin Win
on May 12, 2019

I upgraded from my Belkin wireless charging pad to the stand because I use my phone for my alarm clock, so having it sit upright was something I was missing.
Unlike other Belkin docks I've had in the past, this one uses a standard micro-USB cable and USB power brick for delivering power. It's a nice change, since it freed up some good space on the power strip by my nightstand.
I like the option of resting my iPhone horizontally across the dock to watch videos while letting it charge. The only downside to this dock is that it can be hard to get the phone back in just right if something wakes me up at night.

Wonderful Travel Companion

As someone who travels, I love how freaking handy this thing is. I've used it with my wireless noise cancelling headphones on flights with almost no issue or sync issues. The battery life is more than enough for the 1.5 - 2 hour flights I go on and that's only if I don't plug it into a USB port which some planes have.
It comes with a short USB cable for power / charging and a small aux cable. YMMV based on your need, and there's been times I've had to swap them out for longer cables.
I was so intrigued by it, that I started playing with it around the house too. I did notice a slight delay when I used it to stream BT audio from an old LCD & Apple TV 2 setup in my garage.
When I'm at home, I primarily use it to stream my Mac mini's BT audio to my smart speaker. I have noticed a slight hum that others mention when casting audio to my speaker, but it goes away when I manage the volume.
I love Twelve South products, I have several iPhone / iPad and Mac docks from them. Never been disappointed yet!

Lots of Potential, But Not Awesome

The ROAV Bolt by Anker promised an exciting idea - combine Google Assistant with a USB charger and thereby make any car a smart car. As someone with an old Honda and a love for Google Assistant, I was so excited by this - but sadly, the excitement ended as soon as I plugged it in.
The Bolt comes with a 3.5mm Aux cable for car systems that support an Aux in. Mine uses Bluetooth, so that's what I went with. Some other people have posted different results using BT versus Aux, so YMMV. I wasn't happy with the design because my cigarette lighter port is not only recessed, but it has a spring-powered cover. Meaning I can't use the 3.5mm Aux cable and charge my phone at the same time. I have to choose. Being a charger, I went with the Bluetooth and skipped the Aux.
I plugged it in and started the car - the Google Assistant app on my iPhone immediately saw the device and started the setup process, so far so good. Then it kept crashing and freezing trying to apply an update. Call me old fashioned, but should there really be a software update so soon when the product has just hit the market?
Anyway, after that cluster attempt to update, the Assistant app on my phone finally indicated the update was successful. OK, I thought - time to put this thing through it's paces. That's when the failure happened.
Long story short - this thing acts as a microphone for the Google Assistant app on your iPhone, meaning it's pushing and pulling requests and answers through your device. Don't expect a snappy response to "Hey Google" - there was a good 3-5 second lag between when I said the wake phrase and the device lit up to process my request.
If you're like me and you have Google Home devices, you're used to a snappy response and quick execution. Even something as mundane as "What's the weather" took longer to process on the Bolt than asking the phone directly.
Additionally, while streaming music or audio books, the Bolt constantly interrupts me to audibly speak every notification I get. I know that's in the settings and I quickly changed it.
I'm heartbroken to say this is the first Anker product I've genuinely been unhappy with. I get that it's a product with a purpose - keep you eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel and let your voice do the talking, but the execution isn't there yet.
Anker needs to update this so that it responds faster and more natural.

Versatile Road Warrior

I was looking for a good, portable bluetooth speaker to take with us to my daughter's sporting events. I'm the dad with the music, so I do their pre-game, and halftime show music. I wanted something that was sturdy enough to take on the road, loud enough to project without being distorted and able to be carried by one hand.
I love my other Marshall products, from my guitar amps to my headphones, so when I saw this monster, I thought it was perfect!
Here's a quick rundown of specs & features:
- 20 hours of battery life (never fully wen that long, but it held up for 2 football games)
- IPX2 water resistant - it's not water proof, but good enough for my uses
- Bluetooth 5.0 & Aux Line-In connectivity
- Treble & Bass sound adjustment controls
- Tweeter, Mid, and Sub all in one unit
This thing can push some serious sound! I barely had it up to half way and it sounded louder than the other team's speaker that was easily bigger and bulkier. We've also used it when we have friends over for cookouts to have music in our backyard.
I love the rugged feel of the speaker, it feels just as solid as my amp. The price was around $350, which is about right with other speakers I was pricing in this range. It doesn't include Alexa or Google Assistant like some of the other newer Marshall speakers like the Stanmore II or Woburn II, but honestly, that's not a deal breaker here because I bought it to blast music, not connect to the internet.

Rockstar Headphones
on March 31, 2019
Posted by: cjviscito
from Little Elm, TX, USA
When it comes to modern wireless headphones, there are several features that are requirements for me to enjoy using them:
* They need to be able to travel well
* They need to have the ability to use an analog aux cable
* They need to be comfortable to wear
* They need to isolate noise or be noise cancelling
Most important of all - they have to make whatever I’m listening to sound fantastic.
The new Monitor headphones by Marshall fit all of these to near perfection. They are designed to be foldable and they compact down very nicely. They even come with a soft carrying case. I would’ve liked a more firm case to protect them while I travel, but it’s not a deal-breaker. They fold up very nicely and fit into my carry-on bag when I fly without issue.
These headphones also not only have the ability to be used as a wired headset with an Aux cable, but they come with an Aux cable that has the signature look of Marshall music equipment. One end is a typical straight aux connector and the other end is a 90-degree right angle connector - so your mileage may vary depending on what you’re connecting. When I used them with my iPhone XS and lightning adapter, the cable sat off to the side.
Additionally, they come with a USB-A to Micro-USB charging cable, but no power puck. So you’ll need to plug it into an available USB-A port to recharge them. A puck would’ve been nice, but I guess everyone figures you have open USB-A ports or extra charging pucks hanging around.
One thing that caught me by surprise was how tight and snug these headphones felt when I put them on for the first time. Other reviews have mentioned this as well and honestly, it was a bit surprising at first, but I got used to it pretty quickly. It wasn’t uncomfortable by any means, just a tighter fit than I’ve been used to. Thankfully, the Monitor headphones are designed to be over-ear and not on-ear. I’ve used other name brands that are tight and sit on-ear and after a while, they start to hurt. Thankfully, this didn’t happen here.
Also, compared to other headphones that can make you look like you’re directing traffic on an aircraft carrier, the Monitor headphones profile is surprisingly slim. I’ve worn them around the office listing to music and I didn’t feel the slightest bit awkward.
The Monitor headphones don’t require an App to function, they paired fine with my iPhone XS and Apple TV. The over-ear design helps isolate exterior noise, but I don’t believe these have any active noise-cancelling feature. It would’ve been nice, but it’s not a deal breaker that they don’t cancel outside noise.
That’s because the sounds that comes out is freaking beautiful! Which, if you’re buying headphones, you don’t want to spend money for something to produce anemic, or tinny sound. These come with an equalizer set to produce booming bass, stable mids and variable treble. I put my music on shuffle and from John Lennon to Snoop Dogg to Bruno Mars to Metallica, everything sounded amazing!
If you’re in the market for a solid wireless headphone option from a company that knows a thing or two about speakers, then you need to check out the Monitor headphones. They’ve quickly become one of my favorite traveling and daily use sets.

Solid, Dependable Travel Cable
on March 23, 2019
Posted by: cjviscito
from Little Elm, TX, USA
I travel quite a bit and I also tend to wear out cables quickly. The Apple lightning cables typically end up fraying at the end by the Lightning plug and I have several that are patched up with electrical tape.
I jumped at this Duratek cable because I’ve had a great experience with the Duratek Apple Watch cable. There are some definite pluses as well as some cons to be aware of when you pick this cable up.
The cable is thick and covered in a solid feeling braided fiber. At times this is both a blessing and a curse. From a reliability stance, the thick braided cable feels nice and sturdy. However, this also makes weaving and using the cable a bit of a challenge because it’s not as pliable and thin as the Apple Lightning cables.
I opted for the 6 foot cable because I’ve found that spacing can be an issue, especially in hotel rooms where outlets seem to be placed at the most random of places. While that length is overkill for use in say, my car, it’s nice because I’d rather have a longer cable and not need the extra length, than a cable that is too short.
Additionally, the Duratek cable also comes with a leather snap-strap which makes bundling up excess cable nice. It also makes it easy to travel with. Belkin also makes a 4 foot variant of the cable, which would be better for folks who don’t need the extra 2 feet.
Again, I would go for the longer cable since you can always use the leather snap-strap to bundle up the unused portion. Something else to be aware of if your phone is in a case, the Lightning tips on the cable are a bit thicker than the Apple ones. We tested it on my wife’s iPhone XR Lifeproof case and it fit - but depending on the size of the covering around the lightning port, your mileage may vary.
All in all, it’s a solid cable that feels nice and thick and has become my default traveling / camping Lightning cable to use. It also comes with a 5 year warranty, so I guess we’ll see if the Duratek is as much a road warrior as I am.

Has Promise, with Compromises
on January 17, 2019
Posted by: cjviscito
from Little Elm, TX, USA
My wife is diabetic and we were hoping this would be a great option for her to test her blood sugar on the go. Sadly, once we got it, we realized this isn't the testing system for her.
First off, my wife's phone is in a case. The lightning adapter doesn't work in a case, which would've been good to know. So when she wants to use it, she has to go through the steps to remove the LifeProof case. If you have any case like a LifeProof or Otterbox that adds bulks around the port, this won't work. If you use one of Apple's cases or a case that doesn't add bulk, or no case at all, then this might work better for you. For my wife, having to keep her phone out of her LifeProof case is a non-starter.
When she tried to use the lancets, which are proprietary to the Dario unit, she bent several. She said they felt weaker, easier to bend compared to the lancets she has for her other unit we were hoping to replace. She used 3 of theirs and they wouldn't work, so she pricked her finger with one of her older lancets and was then able to get the Dario unit to read her blood sugar.
The unit is nice that it carries everything, but you'll need to read the instructions, my wife didn't find it intuitive at all. She thought testing the strip on the phone with the App was cool. She liked the ability to save the results on her phone instead of writing them down.
Additionally, it allows you collect other information, for example, how many carbs you ate. You can classify the readings as pre / post meals. You can also put other information, such as insulin you've taken, weight, activities you're doing.
She really liked the App - but the lancets are weak. For someone that has to document their blood sugar all the time, the cataloguing in the App is nice, but the issue with her case and the weak lancets that you can only order from Dairo limit the adoption likelihood in our house.

Finally! My perfect headphone set!
on December 20, 2018
Posted by: cjviscito
from Little Elm, TX, USA
I have been on a quest of sorts for some over-the-ear headphones that have the ability to be wired and wireless at a cost that isn't totally insane. My kids always like to play with the Skullcandy headphones when we go to the store, so I was immediately curious when I learned about the new Venue set.
First off, these things are crazy comfortable. There's plush leather on the cups and the headband. I've worn these while marathoning Netflix while my wife's asleep. Not only did the active noise cancelling drown out her snoring, but never once did my ears or head feel any kind of uncomfortable pressure.
The active noice cancelling feature is really nice and there's actually 3 settings: off, obviously, on, again obvious, and then there's a monitor mode which I assume is for music playback. The noise cancellation isn't as strong as say, a premium brand's ear buds, but I chalk that up to the fact that these sit over your ears and not in your ears.
The headset itself has my deal-breaker feature which is the ability to use it as a corded set if and when the battery dies (which I've never experienced since I let them charge overnight). The flexibility that having this option gives is undeniable.
They also come with a handy integration with Tile - that's right, you can add these to your existing Tile set up and you can use Tile to find these if they go missing - or, more likely in my case, I set them somewhere and then forget.
Another nice feature is the case - these headphones are large, and they don't fold up entirely, but they do lay flat and can be carried in the large, but nice case. The case itself also has holders for the aux cord and micro-USB charging cord, so you can take everything you need on the go!
If you're like me and you want the ability to enjoy wireless, active noise cancelling sound while you binge Netflix, or want the convenience of connecting these to your PS4 controller - then you seriously need to pick these up. I was able to replace 3 headphone sets that I had because of this one pair. I love them!

Decent Option

This is a really nice coffee maker - there's really no bells or whistles to it, but there are some nice features that help make it stand out from the pack.
First, the carafe is a standard 12-cup size, but what sets this apart is the carafe has a locking lid. Meaning, you can pour without worry of the lid popping off or flipping up. You have to turn it to unlock and remove it - great feature to ensure the coffee brewed stays in the carafe.
Another nice feature is the water tank, it's in front of the machine and easily accessible. We replaced another coffee machine who's water tank was in the back.
Additionally, there's a place for your coffee scoop on the side, so you don't have to leave the scoop in the coffee grounds. Might seem like nothing, but if you've ever had to dig for your coffee scoop in the grounds, you know how much fun that can be.
We didn't notice anything special about the flavor - it tasted like regular coffee. It comes with the basic settings, normal and strong brew options available.

Shark AI Robot VACMOP combines powerful vacuum suction and hard floor wet mopping for a complete clean, all in one robot. Features include: Shark suction power, Sonic Mopping that delivers 100 scrubs per minute for stuck-on stains, and AI Laser Navigation for precision cleaning.

"We would like to let you know that this Robot also works to vacuum carpets." This is the response that I got when I asked "Does it work on carpet?" Sounds to me that it doesn't work on carpet but they want you to buy it anyway.

The beater bar on this doesn't look like it's meant to get into the fibers of the carpet. I don't have it vacuum mine, I have it only for the hard floors.

There~s no need to switch between charging and streaming audio. You can listen to music without draining your battery or charge while taking your calls, all from a single USB-C. Pass-through power of up to 60W means you~ll get full charging even when using your device. You can plug in worry-free, as each port can be used for either function. It supports fast charging, so you~ll get it done quickly, too.

I need to know : it works like sígnale splitter ?

No - it won't split a signal to 2 USB-C devices. One USB-C port is for charging only and the other is for audio output. The device has picture indicators on it identifying which port is for charging (lightning bolt) and for audio (headphones).

Is there a thunderbolt 3 port on the side?

I think it's just a standard USB-C port.

IS THIS EASY TO PAIR? IS IT NECESSARY TO PAIR EACH TIME THE TV AND HEADPHONES ARE TURNED ON, OR ONCE THE PAIR HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED CAN YOU FORGET ABOUT THE TRANSMITTER HANGING ON THE BACK OF THE TV? AND WHAT KIND OF RANGE DOES IT TRANSMIT?

I've never had an issue with mine losing / forgetting connection. I can't speak to range since I've only used it within a few feet at most, but I've had no issues.
