Johnnie To is one of Hong Kong's biggest action filmmakers and his latest feature to be released in America is a great example of why he is so popular. Drug War centers around a team of cops busting meth traffickers in a country where manufacturing meth can carry a death sentence. After apprehending a big time meth mogul, the cops use him to bust his associates only to find that he is not fully cooperating. It's a tightly constructed and engaging thriller with a brutal ending that distinguishes it from similar Hollywood films. It's a shame that this disc is devoid of extras...

Hitchcock needs no introduction and this boxset presents three of his earlier classics in high definition including his 1940 best picture winner Rebecca. Also included is the flawed albeit compelling Spellbound which features a wonderfully surreal dream sequence constructed by Salvador Dali and, my personal favorite from this collection, the espionage classic Notorious. Each transfer is crisp and clean though the softness of these films doesn't exactly make them go to discs to show off you home theater. Special features can be a bit on the light side but what is on each of these discs is compelling. Best of all this collection does go on sale for $20 or less making it a great deal.

Audrey Hepburn charms as free spirit Holly Golightly in this comedy classic. Based on a book penned by Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany's is about a young woman who desperately struggle not to be tied down. Her charm appeal attracts a young writer and drama and hilarity ensue. This is a cinema staple and after all these years remains a joy to watch and this blu ray does it justice.

This 1991 remake of the 1962 film of the same name brings together the extraordinary directing talents of Martin Scorsese with the star power of Nick Nolte, Jessica Lang, Julliette Lewis and, most importantly, Robert DeNiro. It's a tightly crafted thriller that proves itself very enjoyable in high definition. Special features are acceptable though unsurprising however...

Stuart Gordon's The Reanimator and Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes are titles that horror junkies adore and now they can get these influential and memorable films together at one low price. The discs in this set are the same as the individual releases of each of these films only they come in one nice space saving package for a measly $15. The quality is a bit mixed however. While The Reanimator (the better film of the two in my opinion) has a nice transfer, The Hills Have Eyes does not... I simply looks like a scaled up DVD transfer. Extras are plentiful however and for those not overly concerned with video quality this might be a decent buy.

This follow up to the colorful and wonderful Rayman Origins is an improvement on it's predecessor in every way. The visuals are more detailed and additional layers give them much more depth, the addition of Murphy provides some additional platforming challenge and there are a truckload of unlockables. The soundtrack is infectious and riotous and this platformer will take around 10 to 15 hours to see through to the end depending on how many of the collectables you pick up. There was a time when post apocalyptic movies weren't synonymous with zombies. This follow up to Mad Max features Mel Gibson's Max as the guardian and defender of a settlement from Barbarians in a bleak future where fuel is scarce. In a way it's like Seven Samurai, only instead of seven ronin there is just one salty former cop protecting the innocent from the vile. On Blu Ray, The Road Warrior looks better than ever and it remains an iconic piece of 1980's cinema. There is a commentary track and an introduction by Leonard Maltin, but it's a shame that there aren't a few more goodies on the disc.

A low Budget Gem from Indonesia

This modest film concerns an Indonesian SWAT team in Jakarta that sets off to take down a housing project run by a major crime kingpin. Most of the team is slaughtered and it's up to a few survivors to finish the job. The plot and it's development is not exactly The Raid's strongest element. There are some twists and turns but what really makes this film worth checking out is the action. It's violent, bombastic and thrilling in the same way that John Woo's early bullet ballets were. This is the perfect flick for a man cave matinee.

Mel Gibson's film about William Wallace is not very accurate but it is immensely entertaining. This epic film makes for an entertaining evening's viewing and the Blu Ray comes packed with bonus features. The price is right and the value is there so as long as you are not hung up by the liberties taken with the history of William Wallace.

An Excellent Bond Flick

While Quantum of Solace was a bit of a misstep, Skyfall redeems it's predecessor's shortcomings and presents a more cohesive and enjoyable plot while maintaining Bond's new found gritty realistic tone. There is less emphasis on Bond's car, his gadgets, the beautiful locals he trots off to and unfortunately less focus on the sexy women that cross paths with 007. Bardem is excellent as Bond's nemesis in Skyfall, proving to be cunning and less fanciful that some of the classic Bond villains. Craig is equally charming and brutish and seems far more believable Bond than the likes of Pierce Brosnan. The color pallet is rich and the sound mix will show off your home theater system. Extras are great with two seperate commentary tracks and a handful of features. This is a must own for action fans and especially Bond fans.
