Great for its Category
on October 26, 2021

Total disappointment when I connected this headset. Not that it was a disaster, but I was expecting a lot more from Turtle Beach. Then I realized that it was not charged, and I was not aware that it worked when out of juice. It does but the audio quality is just okay. After charging it my initial disappointment was thrown out the window. It did sound as I expected from this brand in this headset category.
As an audiophile, sometimes I have a hard time reviewing some audio equipment because I must be conscious that I cannot compare a cheap with a high-end one and that I should be objective and base my review on value. Also, I tend to be forgiving when it comes to gaming audio because I’m mostly interested in the fun of the game itself. So, instead of perfect audio I focus on immersion. That is to say that the Turtle Beach Recon 200 meets the immersion requirement for its category. Audio quality is also very good considering its value. For some types of soft music, I wouldn’t use this set, but I would for most all others. But again, this is for gaming, and it does a good job for that purpose. In this price range, Turtle Beach beats many other brands.
Yes, it’s wired, and I do like the freedom of wireless, but wired audio is almost always better than wireless, except for much more expensive headsets, and for video gaming it is always more stable and responsive, which can be crucial to winning, especially games with other people online. The mic performs very well too and has a flip-to-mute arm.
There’s nothing to brag about design. It looks like most gaming headset of this type, but comfort is good, and the battery lasts a whole day of gaming easily. Unless you’re willing to pay a lot more for a higher-end model, I’d say this will satisfy your audio gaming needs. And if you play on multiple consoles like me, you’ll only need this headset.

Nest Cam with floodlight has built-in intelligence that can tell the difference between a person, a vehicle, and an animal. It alerts you when there’s important activity,* and lights up automatically so you can see what’s happening. With 24/7 live view and free event video history, you never miss a thing, day or night. Swap out your existing basic floodlight and use the same wires for power. Nest Cam with floodlight requires the Google Home app and a Google Account – it’s not compatible with the Nest app or the home.nest.com site.

Excelent Outdoor Camera/Floodlight Combo
on October 25, 2021
Posted by: jailoliv
from Medford, OR
First, I’m not going to compare this with the Next outdoor camera because I’ve never owned one. I have used a Nest doorbell for years and I couldn’t be happier with the quality and features. So, I could compare image quality to it, but it wouldn’t be apples to apples. Also, I have used different outdoor cameras with built-in light, and I can tell you right now that the floodlight on this camera is way better. I can say that it illuminates my driveway better than most standalone floodlights. That’s where it is outstanding.
Camera quality in clear days is very good but not so much in rainy days like the last few weeks where I live. It doesn’t seem to be an issue with the camera quality but with the 1080p instead of 4K resolution. I can say that because comparing with another outdoor security camera at 4K, I can see that the light output shown in both cameras images is very similar, but you can see more details in the 4K one. The good news here is that because of the bright floodlight, the image at night came out better than the 4K. I’m good with that since that’s when you need image quality the most.
Its sturdiness makes you feel it will last a long time and I believe it will. Like most newer security cameras, you can set zones to prevent it from capturing movements on the street that are not relevant to you, saving not only power but also your peace of mind. My only complaint here is that the width of view is less than I hoped for. A little bit disappointing, but it makes some sense since it is designed to monitor only your property, not the whole street. Still, it could be wider.
Using Google Home to control it is my preferred feature as I have lots of devices controlled by this app and Google Hub. It Very easy to set up and use. Speaking through the camera is also a nice feature. I haven’t used it yet, except for testing but it can be very useful when needed.
It is easy to recommend this camera with floodlight, especially if you are willing to pay for the subscription to save the recordings, which is the only major issue that I found with this product. It is limited to recording just a few hours unless you subscribe to its service. Otherwise, it is the camera perfect camera/floodlight combo.

Versatile Machine

The first thing that caught my attention was that you can just put a mug underneath, choose a K-cup pod and voila. You have coffee without the need to clean the carafe. Since there’s only two people who drinks coffee on a regular basis, that option is great. It saves time and work.
The second thing I liked was the multiple choices it gives you. You can use not only a commercial K-cup pod but also the included reusable one, giving you the flexibility of brewing whatever coffee you like, ranging from 6 to 10oz. If you want more than that, you just use the carafe and you can make up to 12 cups.
It is somewhat big although not heavy, but it is easy to clean and looks nice. The only thing that I didn’t like, although most coffee machines of this type have the same issue, was the clock. For two reasons. One, it serves no purpose since you can’t schedule anything. Two, it doesn’t update automatically. At this time and age, we should not need to stare at a VCR-like clock blinking at 12:00. But if you disregard that, you won’t find much that you won’t like. It does a good job, is convenient, senses the type of pod you’re using, and the coffee comes out perfectly every single time.

Good but Not for Heavy Duty Use
on October 18, 2021
Posted by: jailoliv
from Medford, OR
Before anything, you should watch the video on how to set it up because that will you save you a lot of time. Otherwise, what it would take minutes to setup could become very frustrating hours. Easy but not as intuitive as one would expect. So, watch the video and don’t trust the written instructions, which is poorly written in my opinion.
For what it is designed, it works well. It locks nicely and can be controlled with your phone. As we age, we tend to forget things more quickly. Yes, I’m talking about myself as I’ve noticed that I forget to put things back in place ten seconds after I look away, especially when I must keep an eye on my pre-teen trying to set the house on fire; figuratively but no less frightening. No worries here because this Yale Smart Cabinet auto locks.
Now, this is not designed to prevent burglary as it wouldn’t be that difficult to crack it open with a hammer or another tool since it is made of plastic. It is mostly designed to keep meds or other stuff from kids and prying eyes. If you expect more than that from this product, don’t waste your money on it. Otherwise, you will find that it is useful and fits a smart home perfectlly.
My hope is that it will last a long time. When Yale releases one that is more solid and makes me feel it won’t be broken easily, I will certainly order one. For now, this will do. I’m giving it four stars because I had lowered my expectations even before trying it and it worked better than expected. I still wish for a heavy duty one and one. Note to Yale: please rewrite the instructions as some people may not watch the video before trying to set it up.

Great Audio Quality and Very Good ANC
on October 7, 2021
Posted by: jailoliv
from Medford, OR
Sound quality almost got me. They didn’t sound bad at first but didn’t sound great either. I was disappointed until I started playing with the EQ. Somebody should have tested the default settings before boxing them. This Soundcore by Anker Life Note 3 XR sounds way better than most earbuds, even than some bigger brands. So, don’t get disappointed if they don’t sound as good as you expected when you try them the first time. EQ is your friend, and it is right there in the app.
Noise canceling was very effective. This was a surprise to me. I like ANC but very few earbuds implement it right, but they did it for these. As for design, I’ll not make many comments because I’m not a big fan of the big tips hanging but hey, that’s the trend and most people seem to like that style.
Comfort was the issue for me, but I have very sensitive ears and very rarely I found a pair of earbuds that don’t hurt. I’ve had worse. Also, I was the only person at home who thought they were somewhat uncomfortable. So, my experience may not be the same for everybody, maybe only for those with similar sensitive ears. Also, they’re relatively light. Another issue was that the controls felt a bit stiff, requiring bit more force than I expected.
I experienced no issues with Bluetooth, except when I would turn the microwave oven, but that is a common issue with all similar devices. They paired quickly and never disconnected unexpectedly.
Overall, I’m very happy with them. I can listen to music for a couple of hours before my ears start to hurt. The audio quality is the main reason why I can stand them in my ears that long. Highly recommended.

Basic but Very Comfortable
on September 30, 2021
Posted by: jailoliv
from Medford, OR
Although this is one of those inexpensive earbud sets, it is ready for use as soon as you take it out of the box. No need to press a button or anything. Once it is paired to an audio source, it is extremely easy to use.
Personally, I like headphones that make me feel completely immersed as if I were listening to the music live and close enough so that I would hear only the singer and instruments. You can experience that only with more premium headsets/earbuds, but I can appreciate well-built and comfortable ones even if they are not at the top of the line. This Gumy Mini feels better than most in its price range and it is very light, which is a huge deal for me since I can’t use most earbuds for long as they hurt my ears, especially because of the weight. Fortunately, these are tiny and not much heavier than a feather, allowing me to enjoy audio for hours without bothering me.
I don’t know if it will last under wet conditions, but it is sweat resistance, so it might be okay for quick exercises. I just don’t think it will survive my intensive workouts if I use them all the time. I like it that it works with Siri.
Basic but it does a good job for its category. I wish premium headphones were this light and comfortable.

Good Audio, Cheap Look
on September 27, 2021
Posted by: jailoliv
from Medford, OR
Surprisingly lightweight as it weighs only 5.8 oz, which makes it comfortable to move your head back and forth since you won’t feel much. The ear cushions are soft. But comfort here is a mixed bag. There is no padding on the headband.
Voice quality was great, specially considering that the mics are armless. I like that although I am so used to mic arms on gaming headsets that I keep reaching for the inexistant arm every time I start talking.
Sound in general was good enough to feel immersed in the game to a certain extent. It lets outside sound in very easily, which can be a good or bad thing depending on whether you’re playing with friends on site. The drivers provide hi-fi balanced audio just as Logitech promises but that does not mean it is on par with high end headsets. It is good enough for most games. I am a big fan of Dolby Atmos as they can provide true surround audio experience and this headset is compatible. I did notice some difference in quality when using Bluetooth instead of Lightspeed. The latter performed better but although Bluetooth technology has gotten better, it is still not that great. It seems the Lightspeed adaptor does offer some improvement over Bluetooth. At least in my experience. It worked with my iPhone but since I use it mostly for music and phone calls, I can safely say I wouldn’t use it for music. Just keep in mind this is for gaming.
I haven’t run out of battery yet even after playing for 6 hours non-stop and then about 4 and a half hours intermittently on the same charge. The LED still shows green, which means its charge was at least 31% full. I would say that you can safely play a whole day without worrying about running out of battery.
The downside is that it looks and feels cheap. As I mentioned before, the headband doesn’t even have any padding. The only reason it is not very uncomfortable is due to its lightweight. Logitech, I like most of your gadgets and I can’t say I dislike this one completely since audio is good, but it was not designed for grown-ups, or at least it doesn’t look like it was. I would give it 4 stars for sound and weight, 3 stars for look and feel, and 2 for the headband. For the price, it is not a bad deal, so keep that in mind.

Boring Look but Premium Feel and Performance
on September 26, 2021
Posted by: jailoliv
from Medford, OR
If this was a beauty contest, this Oster Blender would have lost already. Of course, that’s a personal subjective opinion. But with 800-watt power, it can do more than just smoothies. I haven’t tried to make peanut or almond butter with it as I have one blender specifically for that function, but you don’t need to cut fruits in tiny pieces. It can handle even ice easily.
The included to-go cup is very handy since I can take my smoothies wherever I go, which is very important for my healthy eating style and workouts. It even has a setting specifically for smoothies and another for salsa. Just what I needed. Most importantly, it performs extremely well. Whatever I throw in it, I handles it without a glitch.
Not only my girlfriend but I also liked that the glass jar is dishwasher safe, which is great since hand washing these jars and cups are no fun. Many blenders out there come with plastic jars that are a pain to clean and not very good for your health either, even when they are BPA free. Not this one. Glass is the way to go. Thanks Oster.
Although it doesn’t have a premium look, it feels and performs like a more expensive blender. There isn’t much else to talk about it. It is good for daily blending and excellent for smoothies. For what it does and for the quality, I am giving it five stars.

Good Looking and Performance
on September 25, 2021
Posted by: jailoliv
from Medford, OR
In this house, we’re all big fans of air fryers. They take room on your counter shared by other gadgets such as toasters, but they are simple to use and faster than bigger ovens. As for the extra room, this Oster RapidCrist oven can replace a lot of those other gadgets and does so very well. That saved precious room on our counter.
As for functionality, the dial button to change function works well. It is not as pretty as it should be, but it is useful. I like it better than the buttons to change time and temperature. In fact, the main complaint I have about this otherwise excellent air fryer oven, is that the touch buttons are not sensitive enough, requiring you to press them harder than you would expect. Once you get used to it, it is no big deal but I wish Oster had perfected this part because it did bother me.
I found that every single feature worked as designed. With the exception of some frozen chicken thighs that required the addition of a few minutes, everything else came out good the first time. I wish it had more food options to select such as for baking fish, which air fryers can do extremely well, but I was able to come up with a perfect salmon. I must admit that experience with other similar ovens did help me figure out the perfect timing. It worked with pizza even though it didn’t come with an appropriate plate for them. That’s another option I wish you could select. I’m currently trying the dehydrator function, the only one I can’t say much about yet, but it seems that it will work fine. It does look good so far.
Its stainless steel body makes it a nice addition to our kitchen. As I mentioned before, the dial button could have had some design work to match the body material. Still, its not an eye sore and the overall look of this oven is nice and that’s what matters besides its functionality, of which it does a very good job. I would recommend it to friends, although I had a hard time deciding to give it three or four stars, mainly because of the low responsiveness of the touch buttons.

Nice Idea in Theory, Not Very Useful
on September 24, 2021
Posted by: jailoliv
from Medford, OR
I was looking forward to trying it. First, I exercise often and try to eat as healthy as possible. Smoothies for me are a big thing. Although I do use protein powder sometimes, my preference is real fresh food. When I travel or even at work, I miss a blender to make my smoothies. So this NutriBullet sounded like what I needed.
Right in the beginning I was frustrated because it wouldn’t turn on. I decided to charge it for a whole night, but even so it wouldn’t work until I read the instructions – yes, read that first. It was the cup that was not correctly positioned. My fault and I was somewhat embarrassed. So I was glad when it actually turned on and my hopes got higher again.
To be fair, I was not expecting great performance since a battery-bowered and small blender didn’t sound like it would do a great job but with battery technology getting better and better, I did have some hope. Voila! It worked well with protein power and very ripe bananas cut in very small pieces. But it performed poorly in most other attempts. Forget about using spinach, kale or any other green – unless it’s in powder form. Other fruits? I couldn’t find any that would provide a good result. It just doesn’t have enough power
It is a very good idea in theory. It is right sized, simple to use but unless you want this only for shakes made with protein powder, or yogurt, it is not worth it in my opinion.
