Quality Headphones with Quirks
on March 5, 2018
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
Let's start this out by saying these headphones deliver exceptional quality in sound, but they also have a couple issues that hinder them from being great headphones. These are best suited for a home theater setup, with that being the best application.
The design of the headphones look nice, while also delivering a somewhat comfy fit. They aren't heavy, nor are they light, about what you'd think they'd weigh. They are, however, pretty bulky, and are sort of blocky, with the earcups delivering poor pressure points. The buttons on the side of the headphones are fine, but honestly feel a little out of place. The sound quality is pretty good, as mentioned, and the mids-and-highs really shine here.
Now the issues really: the headphones cannot work without the charging stand, there are no Bluetooth capabilities, no case included, won't work for sports, and bleed sound very heavily. There also are no noise-cancelling features here, so don't expect the ambient noise to go away. There is no way to hook up a mic for these, so if you'd ever like to speak and use the headphones you'd need a separate microphone for that. Bass seems slightly average, and treble could be a little better.
So all that said, these headphones are a mixed bag. There are better options out there, and especially for versatility these don't have. They do have good sound and build feels solid. 2 year Sennheiser warranty. Don't recommend unless found on a killer sale, or you have a very quiet theater environment.

An OK Dash Cam with Good Navigation, Great Alexa
on February 19, 2018
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
This is really 3.5 stars.
When using the Garmin Speak Plus with Alexa, I kept thinking it has all the right tools to be great, just doesn't quite hit the mark.
First, the good: the Alexa integration is great and seamless, although one does need both the Garmin and Alexa apps on their phone for it to work. Directions look crisp on the OLED screen, and are presented well. Accurate maps, and the camera is very small. Using Alexa to control things at home while on the go is pretty neat.
The not-so-good: one has to hid the power cord in their trim of their car, and the placement is on the right side, which takes a little more effort. The dash cam itself, the reason to get this over the standard speak, isn't special. It only has 82-degrees of coverage, and the dynamic range really doesn't seem too optimized yet. Voice detection is also a little hit-or-miss. There is only Amazon Music and Pandora music support currently. All controls use your phone's data, which can kill the battery and plan if you don't have a charger or unlimited data.
Overall, the product works, just with a few things of note to decided if it's worth it for you or not.

A Great Computer, with Great Looks to Boot
on January 9, 2018
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
This computer has actually made me question whether or not I should continue to be a Mac user.
For starters, the computer looks great. Stunning even, and the new HP design team must be proud of their designs moving forward. The keyboard feels great, and the screen performs well for its touch-functions, while also looking fabulous (around 4lbs and less than an inch think).
When I look at a computer out of the box, I try to run it under any stress that I think I'll use in its lifetime: for this HP x360, knowing it had an 8th gen Intel i7-8550U processor and ample memory (16 GB), I didn't think anything would be an issue. Nothing has been, so far. Video editing with Final Cut, converting videos and songs, using multiple Photoshop screens, streaming high-bandwith videos, everything thrown at it it processed marvelously, and no issues with all programs open at once (except for battery life). It has all the necessary USB and HDMI ports (even USB-C), which is perfect for me, and I imagine for others as well. Backlit keys are bright and crisp.
Battery life seems adequate enough, and mine continuously lasted a solid 5 hours, unless it was undergoing heavy-computing.
My only two issues with the computer are that it still uses a 1TB HDD, rather than an SSD. Ultimately the trade off is up to the user, but it was probably put in to cut costs. Secondly, the sound as advertised is good (Bang & Olufsen), but nothing special.
All in all, this HP provides power for any task, while presenting it in a very lightweight and easy to use package. I have had no slip-ups or issues with this particular model, and don't expect to for awhile.

Great Speaker, Work-in-Progress Google Assistant
on December 26, 2017
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
Having previously owned a UE Boom, I really didn't think sound could get much better; boy, was I in for a treat.
Enter the JBL Link 20. For starters, everything past the test of standard things: water resistant, shock and dustproof, can clip onto a backpack (just like my UE). Better yet though, the speaker comes with Google Assistant, albeit with some quirks. You have to go through the app in order to access the function, and some may find that cumbersome. However, the actual Assistant function is pretty good, and I found decent response times.
The speaker gets loud, and has a solid bass to back it up. I found the battery to last about 7 hours continuous play (even though the box claims 10) which is not bad at all.
A great sounding and loud speaker, just with some quirks. Still recommended.

A Great Running Watch, with One Flaw
on December 23, 2017
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
I'm an avid runner so having a legit running watch is always great in my opinion. The Epson ProSense 17 is a no nonsense GPS enabled watch.
Featuring smartphone compatibility, notifications, etc., it has plenty of options to adhere to most needs. No heart-rate monitor, but watch looks good, does well in water, and is small and easily put on the wrist.
The best part is the GPS though; it is quickly obtained, and generally takes about 15 seconds at most. It's accurate and the watch is very easy to read.
Only issue I've found with the watch is the battery life: it seems to last about 3 days total, with Bluetooth pairing and two (25 min) runs out of the three days. I'm sure if you turned the Bluetooth off it would last longer, but as it stands I do find myself charging it everyday.
All in all, though, a great watch and for a really good price.

Amazing Blender; You Get What You Pay For
on December 5, 2017
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
I'd been wanting to invest in a "nicer" blender for awhile now and was torn between a Vitamix and Blendtec. Both seem like good choices, and we went Blendtec due to friends having one themselves, and glad this was the way we went.
Firstly, I must say that, unless you actually plan to use the functions of a nicer blender (making flour, grinding coffee, creating great smoothies, juicing, making nut butters, making nut milks, hot soups created, etc) there is no point to buying a higher end blender. If you simply want great smoothies, one can get a solid blender elsewhere.
However, if you like the idea of pretty much being able to do anything and everything with your blender, then the Designer Series is for you.
PROS:
This blender has performed marvelously for the past 3 weeks we've had it. It has enabled us to make great morning smoothies, milks, soups, juices, butters, and more. It has done the job for everything we've thrown at it, and never too loud in the process. It's exactly what we wanted in a blender so that is awesome.
The jar is a whopping 96 fl oz, with measurements up to 36 fl oz (and the metric system is also included). No issues overheating, not grinding anything up, or anything of note.
The LED touch screen looks great, and the dimensions of the blender leave a very small footprint on the counter (something the Vitamix can't use). Power cord is long enough, and the blender we bought was newly manufactured only a month ago.
Easy to clean as well, with a cycle to do it for you too.
CONS:
Price; this will be the toughest thing for most to swallow. Best Buy just had a sale on these for $150 off, and at under $400, this is definitely a steal. It is worth it regardless, but watch for sales if needed.
Contents: you only get the Wildside+ portion, nothing else, meaning any accessories are extra out of pocket (not that you need them, but they could be useful and companies such as Ninja provide plenty).
OVERALL:
A huge upgrade from our previous Ninja. So much power under the hood, and everything looks great as well. There are no signs of stopping and I'm ever glad we have this in our lives. We've been making healthier options overall, and feel great doing it.

A Good Headphone, But Poor Connectivity Issues
on November 27, 2017
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
These new JLab headphones are a solid step in the right direction for headphone companies, but the overall product is hampered by connectivity issues.
First, THE GOOD: the headphones come in great packaging, and have ear buds of all different sizes for optimal ear sizing. The buds feature a curved design which makes it easier for them to stay in the ears; never did they fall out on my runs or workouts with them. They sound great, and also are passively noise-cancelling (you can hear yourself but not much else, another great plus).
The come with a charging case and it looks sleek, but is slightly heavy. Battery seemed to last about 4-4.5 hours even though the package claimed 6, but I'd consider that solid.
Now, onto THE BAD: when trying to pair the headphones to my Galaxy S8+ and wife's iPhone 8 Plus, it took over a half an hour to get them to pair. I could go into it, but the bottom line is that it should not take that long. Most people would give up and return them at that point.
After being connected the headphones randomly drop connection at least once every time they are connected. When you're watching a show or video and the Bluetooth drops your video will stop playing until the audio is picked back up. Super frustrating and annoying. Battery was fine, as outlined above.
Overall, the sound is really good on these headphones, but I can't stand behind them for the simple fact that I need my wireless headphone to be somewhat hassle free.

A Solid Vacuum, Even with Gripes
on November 3, 2017
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
This robot vacuum was the first robot vacuum I ever used.
First thing I noticed was that they are larger in person than one might think, so keep this in mind.
For Shark, the setup was easy, and everything you need is included. The vacuum has ample capacity, and works well across different floor types (we have hardwood, rugs, and actual carpet).
Really, they are meant to supplement cleanings, and not as a vacuum replacement.
Basically, the cons are as follows:
Battery can run out before cleaning cycle is done. Cleaning cycles last 60 minutes, but it seems the battery always run dry before that time is up.
Can get stuck, which is inherent, but still of note.
App-controlled, where you can schedule cleanings and such (plus name your robot, which is nice), but the app may or may not work.
Lastly, the outside sweepers can pick up things that would otherwise not be grabbed, meaning more chances to get stuck.
Overall, a solid addition to a household, but may not be a necessary item in any sort.

Pour wine without removing the cork by using the Coravin Model Two wine system. The durable needle pierces the cork so you can pour, and then the cork reseals when the needle is removed to preserve the remaining wine. This Coravin Model Two wine system comes with two capsules that let you pour up to 30 glasses of wine.

Can't Believe Something Like This is Possible
on November 3, 2017
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
Wow, My expectations for this were high to begin with, as it had the lofty claim of making wine drinkable for an unlimited amount of time, "wine by the glass, without uncorking it."
Crazily enough, this thing works, and works very well. My wife and I tried it with 5 different bottles of wine, over the course of three weeks, and the results were fairly shocking.
Long story short: every bottle, save for one that was a half-carbonated red wine (don't use sparkling, as advised), was perfect every night we drank them. All uses were spread out over the three weeks, using the same bottles. All tasted exactly the same, if not very very close to it (I'm no expert, but I can recognize once wine has turned).
The device uses a gas that essentially keeps the wine's properties intact while slowing pouring a liquid from a small incision in the cork. Sure, the thing pours slow (about 4 squirts to actually obtain a glass), but the process is worth it.
Extra cartridges are roughly $20 for two, and each one is quoted at 30 glasses of a 5 oz pour, which is good value in my opinion.
The only con? Looks sort of weird, and can take up space. But if you're like my wife and I who don't necessarily want to finish a whole bottle in one night, this is an amazing device. The cost should surely outweigh any over-drinking nights, or wasted wine.
Bravo, Coravin.

Amazing Wire Free Headphones
on October 15, 2017
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
I love these headphones. As an avid runner and user of the now two-year old Soundsport Wireless headphones, my expectations were high. However, being Bose and the product they are, they met my criteria.
Held up in sweat, light rain, and battery life was great, clocking in about one week for average of 40 minutes running. The charge case is an excellent idea, and love the convenience of it. Never found any dropped connections or anything, and not once did I have issues of them falling out of my ears.
Easily worth the price, and highly recommended.
