High Quality, Basic Sound
on May 21, 2017
Posted by: callmeageeth
from Louisville, KY
This a nice looking speaker that is impeccably made. I was drawn to the design (I like it) and the quality in which it was put together. I think it's nice looking and well made. I like that there are large buttons that you can't miss, and love the song forward and reverse buttons, which isn't always present in BT speakers (or is some combination of button presses you have to memorize).
I had some difficulties setting it up, my phone could see it, but I kept getting an error message. But eventually, it connected. And since then, I've had no issues.
Sound Quality
Pretty normal, nothing special. It gets plenty loud for my use (indoor and outdoor) but there's a distinct lack of bass. Which depending on the person may or may not matter. I'll say that you aren't buying this for the sound quality (and that doesn't mean it's bad quality).
Features
It has several nice features which quite honestly, are the reason you buy this thing. It's water proof. I can attest to it testing this feature in my bath tub. The music is muffled because obviously the sound is trying to pass few water. But it does float. It's like an iceberg though, most of the device is underwater. So if you dropped it in a river it may be tough to see depending on the conditions but that's a minor point.
It has a dry box attached to the bottom of the speaker, which was exciting to me. I liked the idea that you could put a credit card, key, and your phone in a waterproof area so you didn't have to worry about losing multiple items. But alas, the dry box wasn't very big. it could maybe fit an iphone 4, but my Google Pixel in no case stood no chance.
It does have two USB ports for charging phones which I like. I haven't had the need yet, but it will be nice to charge your phone when need be. Note that when using these ports, you lose waterproofing.
The biggest flaw, and it my opinion, is a big one but not deal breaker, is the proprietary charger. In 2017, I like using either micro USB or USB-C to charge my devices. I like having one cord to charge them all. When taking this speaker out, you need to carry a separate charger which is a pain and something else to remember.
I haven't had a chance to fully test the battery life, but its rated 13 hours and I've been using it off and on for many days now and the battery indicator is still at full power.
One last comment, I do like the glow in the dark buttons. You're not likely to listen to music in the dark all the time, but it is nice to easily find the buttons when you do. Any time you pick the device up the lights on the buttons turn on which is a nice touch.

If you can get this on sale, it's a steal. The speed is great, it's not so small that you'll lose it (I know some companies tout how small their USB drives are, but I don't like them so small I can never find them).
Great value

Easy breezy setup, blazing speeds
on May 13, 2017
Posted by: callmeageeth
from Louisville, KY
When it comes to routers, Linksys has it figured out. Long gone are the days where you would have to plug an ethernet cord into your computer and manually adjust the settings. You plug this in, you download the app, and the setup is just fantastically simple. The router had to download a firmware update (which during the setup, is set to do automatically, which is nice) which took the bulk of the setup time (about 5 minutes) but then once that's done, I name the network and password and then voila!
I have about 25 smart devices in my home, from tablets, computers, game consoles, TVs, Chromecasts, lights, smoke detectors, etc. so I need a router that can handle a lot of devices. Given the number of devices I also run into issues where older devices run off 2.4Ghz bands, while my newer devices can take advantage of the speeds that come with 5 Ghz bands. This can be a pain for a router with multiple bands, as it makes it confusing and requires several networks in your house. The nice thing about thsi router (and maybe yo can do this with others, I don't know) is that there's an option during setup to name the three bands the same. So that way, you have one network when looking at any of your devices. This made it so much easier when I had to go through the arduous process of resetting my network settings for all of my devices.
I'm no router guru, but I pay for 100MBs of internet speed and this router allows me to actually get over that (about 105 MBs) according to Speedtest. Not sure about the accuracy, but I can say that I have yet to run into ANY buffering or lag on any devices. And we are a household where we can be downloading movies on a computer, streaming shows to two different TVs and someone is playing Xbox Live. Honestly, the speeds are worth it.
I don't have a big house so I never really had any issues with coverage, but I did walk down my street and I was able to get my WiFi on my phone (I don't need it, I was just checking) a few houses down. (which also makes me realize how important network security is.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a great router, simple setup and the foot print of the router itself isn't too big, this is a great option.
Last side note, I want to give Linksys props for getting rid of the big power brick plug. There's still a power brick, but at least it has a small AC plug running from it. Anyone who's ever had to manage a surge protector with a lot of devices knows what kind of convenience that is.

Great idea and price, but short battery life
on April 25, 2017
Posted by: callmeageeth
from Louisville, KY
I like listening to music when out in the yard but don't like headphones because they isolate all noise. I also like listening to music when riding bicycles and I think everyone knows that can be dangerous. So this little speaker seemed like a great idea. It is compact and the spring clip is strong, I've attached it to shirts and backpack straps and I've never once been concerned about losing it. The sound is surprisingly loud for the user. I've not asked anyone around me how loud it is, but it doesn't seem to be too invasive (like a larger speaker) but it is plenty loud for personal use. I've listened to audio books and podcasts and music and they all sound great. I also love that I have one less cable to worry about because you can plug this directly into a USB slot to charge (the cap comes off). I use a multi USB charger and the speaker isn't so big as to block off the other USB ports (like when you have a surge protector and one of the big charger bricks blocks other ports).
The biggest complaint is battery life. It really only lasts me about 2 hours even though it's rated for 3. So you need to keep it charged at all times after use. For my workout BT headphones I just charge them and know that I can use them for several workouts throughout the week without problems but that's not the case with the speaker. I charge it after each use.
The other minor issue are the lack of buttons. It's nice that it's simple and there's less buttons, but with only a plus and minus for the volume you have to remember a new set of commands. It hasn't been a big deal because I normally change songs through my phone and I typically have it on full blast, but if you're riding your bike and your phone is in your bag you have to remember to press the plus button 3 times. It becomes muscle memory but it was a bit tricky at first. And that minor complaint is no reason not to get it.
For only $30 it's a worthwhile investment even if you only use it a few times. I found it more useful than I initially thought. Clipping a small speaker onto your shirt collar and having podcasts on while cleaning the house (when my son is taking a nap especially) is nice.

Nice protection but tough to get on

I wanted this black skin not primarily because of shock protection (in the event of a fall) but because it's black. The placement of my camera outside against a dark background makes my camera stick out like a sore thumb. The black skin helps it blend easier into the background making it more difficult for a passerby to notice it. My only complaint is that it doesn't do an adequate job of "blacking" out the bottom of the camera and I found it difficult to get on. It is skin tight.

Essential Outdoor Accessory

If you use your Arlo Pro outside, this is a must. I don't mind the standard half globe magnet that comes with the Arlo indoors, but for some reason I don't trust them (plus you are more limited in the angles of your camera; depends on wall placement). This mount can be screwed into brick, wood, etc. and it has a much higher range in terms of your ability to position the camera on the mount. And the camera screws into the mount which at least gives me a sense of security that the camera won't fall off.

Small and fast

This is a durable little portable HDD that has fast speeds. My only complaint was that I had difficulties setting it up as the back up drive for my laptop. I had difficulties using Windows utility AND I had difficulties using Western Digital's proprietary software (it's a relatively new laptop). I can't say it wasn't user error, but I'm normally able to figure things out and I was unable to. I only mention this in the event you are using it as a backup, I'd make sure you know that it works. As a standalone portable HDD however, you can't go wrong.

Fantastic sound, light and comfortable and simple
on March 26, 2017
Posted by: callmeageeth
from Louisville, KY
I'm going to start by saying these are some great headphones. Not just gaming headphones, but headphones. They are some of the lightest headphones I've ever owned. And they sound great. And I love, love, love, the pull out microphone. It is so nice to be able to hide the microphone when not in use. The microphone picks up my voice well, I've actually gotten some compliments from friends that they can hear me better (when compared to my Turtle Beach headset). And the braided cable screams of quality.
My biggest gripe is that they aren't more versatile (i.e. wish it had 3.5 audio jack). These are USB only, and while they work with PS4 (and well!) they don't work with Xbox 360, One or PS3. I own all three and now have three different headsets. I'm still waiting for my one headphone to rule them all.
What I don't like is the size of these headphones. While they're light, they are rather bulky and you can't fold them up. They also don't come with a carry case which would have been nice. I also don't like that you need to run a separate program (Razer Synapse) to take advantage of the surround sound. I'm no computer engineer, but I'm confident it's because the program processes the surround sound.
All that needs to be said is that these are great sounding headphones and simple to use. All you have to do is plug in the USB and you're ready to go (except you'll need Synapse to enjoy surround sound). the bass is tight and the clarity is terrific. When playing Bioshock: Infinite I could hear all around me. And did I mention they're comfortable? You feel like you're not wearing any headphones after a while. Other headphones either get too heavy or the headband is too tight and leads to headaches.
These are great for gaming, listening to music or watching movies. But just know that you'll need a PC (or PS4) which almost rules them out for travel (which is a shame) but I imagine that doesn't really matter because if you're looking at this review and thinking about buying this headset, you are going to be using them for PC gaming almost exclusively.

Light and convenient but has its flaws
on March 19, 2017
Posted by: callmeageeth
from Louisville, KY
In my opinion, Dyson has become known as the end all be all in vacuums. I'm not claiming they're the best, I just mean it in the sense if I ask my mom, she's convinced they are. Much like how Bose became the audio quality standard for noise cancelling headphones. They're also like status symbols; the commercial shows a woman pulling her handheld Dyson off the wall in her kitchen as if it were a fashion statement or piece of art on the wall.
I've never owned a Dyson and was excited to give this one a try. I like the idea of having a cordless vacuum that's light with a lot of power. And while this vacuum meets those standards, it's flaws (along with it's steep price) keep it from being the best stick vacuum.
Putting it together was easy, the instruction manual includes lots of pictures to help explain how to put it together, maintenance, etc.Note that you do have to charge it 5 hours before using it.
The dock is optional, but I wouldn't want to plug it in manually each and every time I charge it. So that means I'd use the wall mounted dock, which leads me to my first gripe: location.
Unlike the aforementioned commercial, I don't want the Dyson attached to a wall in my house for all to see. I have a small house and didn't have an option of putting in a closet, so it's in my garage. It's not a huge problem for me, but I would take into account the fact that you'll almost "need" to mount this on the wall before you purchase it. And the power cable isn't very long, so it will need to be right next to an outlet or you'll have to find a work around.
The docking station leads me to my next gripe: location for the attachments. This vacuum comes with a long extension tube (to use upright) a large motorized attachment brush, a small motorized attachment brush (for when you aren't using the long extension tube), skinny angled attachment (for corners) and two other brushes. The dock holds two attachments and the vacuum would have another attached to it (I keep the large motorized brush on it). But it comes with 5 attachments. So now I have to keep track of 2 attachments that don't attach to the dock. What am I supposed to do with them? This vacuum is too expensive not to have a docking station that can accommodate all of the attachments.
In regards to performance, it is pretty good. The battery lasts 40 minutes according to the box, but that's with he motorized brush. Without the motorized brush it lasts 25 minutes. If you were to put it in "max" mode it would last 7 minutes. I don't use Max mode because honestly, I couldn't tell the difference. I have hardwood floors with some area rugs and two cats. The Dyson did a fantastic job picking up hair etc on the hardwood floor and couches, but it was absolutely horrendous on the rugs. The motorized brush would just stop working. The only workaround I came up with was to get the brush spinning in the air and take a running start with the vacuum on the carpet and hope it keeps spinning.
I also don't like that there's no option to keep the trigger pulled. It's really easy to maneuver the vacuum but I hate holding the trigger for an expended period of time, why couldn't there be a switch that kept the trigger "activated?"
All in all, it's a good vacuum. But it's tough to recommend for the price. On the one hand, I love being able to use a powerful vacuum without cords, and is super easy to maneuver. But it's performance on carpet leaves much to be desired. It also bugs the heck out of me that not all of the accessories fit on the dock.
If owning a "Dyson" means a lot to you and you can afford it, this is a great vacuum, but you could find cheaper alternatives with similar performance (more bang for your buck).

Just curious what the flight time experience has been like. Says 20 minutes with no payload; however, is the camera considered "payload"? Is it 20 minutes WITH the camera? Also, how close to 20 minutes is the "actual" flight time?

Given that the camera is required to fly I wouldn't think that the camera is considered payload. I've never tried to fly with any payload mostly because I haven't needed to and it doesn't seem equipped to hold anything (you would have to use some ingenuity to attach something to it). I can speak as to how long it flies without any payload but obviously with the camera. And in my use, it's been between 18-19 minutes of flight time. The very first time I flew it, it landed itself due to low battery around the 18 minutes mark, even though on the handheld controller, the screen said there was 2 minutes of flight time left. I haven't flown it enough while taking video/stills to determine how much that drains the battery. Hope that helps.

Charge 2 GoPro lithium-ion batteries simultaneously with this GoPro AHBBP-301 charger that reliably draws power from select USB chargers, USB-enabled computers or GoPro wall or vehicle chargers (not included), so you can keep your camera ready for use.

Does this have the cable to connect charger to computer? Is there a cord that connects camera directly to computer or wall charger for charging? I think we lost ours.

It comes with a mini-USB cable which you can plug into your computer (I wouldn't recommend because of slow charging) and a wall charger. The same mini-USB cable plugs directly into the camera itself
