Nice bass and fun lights

Bluetooth speakers are a dime a dozen and it's hard to stand out in a crowded field. In my opinion, most speakers have similar sound quality (in the midtier to upper level market, I can't speak for the cheap, non-name brand speakers). What I look for is loudness, battery life, battery life and durability. This speaker nails it on those and offers a little bit more.
The build quality is classic Sony. It is great. It is hefty but not too heavy. The fabric on the outside is tight (as in it doesn't slide around) and is very durable. You get anything on it, you can wipe it off. The sound quality is good, nice highs and lows. I'm no audiophile but the average joe will be very satisfied with the sound quality.
It claims to have extra bass, but I don't notice much extra bass. Don't get me wrong, I like the lows this speaker offers, but I don't hear any major emphasis on the bass. Maybe someone else will notice, but I don't.
The speaker is plenty loud. In fact, at top volume it gets too loud, which you can't say about a lot of speakers. I had about 8 people over with the speaker playing in a distant corner of the room and it was on about 70% volume and that still seemed too loud to hear over everyone's conversations. I took it outside on the porch and i was amazed how far the sound traveled. I can confidently say that the volume of this speaker (keep in mind there's a bigger model) will handle most situations. Small parties, small outdoor venues, you name it.
I don't generally take my speakers out in the wilderness, or in the rain, but I do occasionally take them to the pool or hot tub. I took this to the hot tub and while I can't say tested it, it wasn't bothered by the cold weather and moisture in the air. Sony claims it can handle dust and water splashes. I have to take that at face value. I don't really intend on putting it through any crazy rigors
What makes this speaker stand a part is the battery life and lights. First, the battery life. It is advertised at 24 hours. While I haven't played it for 24 hours straight, I charged it completely, and listened to it for a week with the lights on and at about a 50% level and it never died. Now I wished it had a battery level indicator on the speaker, but it took a week before it finally clonked out. That was with the lights on.
The other feature I really appreciated but never thought I would, was the party lights. Look, that didn't appeal to me too much, but I find myself liking them more and more. No you won't be staring at the speaker and no it shouldn't be the only reason you buy any speaker, but it is kinda cool. The lights go to the beat for the most part and aren't too overbearing. It's a nice little addition that I think sets the mood of the party. Best of all, you can turn it off.
The speaker has the ability to charge your phone via USB, I never used that, but it is a nice feature if you get to the pool (or wherever) and need to juice up your phone.
All in all, given the sound quality and battery life alone I highly recommend this speaker. You can get similar audio quality in most other speakers in this price range, but you are getting party lights and durability that aren't standard in most speakers, which in my opinion sets it apart from the crowd.

Light buds and quality sound
on March 12, 2018
Posted by: callmeageeth
from Louisville, KY
I've been looking for the perfect pair of workout headphones, and while these aren't perfect, they are IMO close.
They look like thicker black Apple Airpods with cord connecting the two. That's not really a bad thing. The tube shape design makes them easy to grab and the rubber tips have a nice textured feel that hold them in your ear. And they're really light
In terms of fit, I think these are great. They come with medium tips and small tips (no large). I made due with the medium tips. At first they don't feel secure, it's a tough feeling to describe, but the never once came out during my 10 mile runs. I think this is in large part due to the lightness of the headphones and the textured tips. They are so light you almost forget your wearing them.
The bad part though, the buttons are small and hard to touch by feel. If you're the type that ALWAYS changes songs or volume on the headphones themselves, I might give these pause. The fast forward and rewind button is difficult to locate by touch, the raised indention of the symbols are easy to miss. Luckily, the power button is on the end at the bottom of the "black tube" and you can't miss that. I tend to adjust songs and volume on my phone so this is not an issue to me.
In terms of sound quality, in typical Sony fashion they're great. The music is tight and responsive. The bass isn't too overwhelming. You can get more bass if you get a tighter seal in your ear, but I can only accomplish this by holding the ear piece into my ear, which for obvious reasons isn't doable. NOTE this last comment does not affect their fit nor the ability to stay in my ear. I never felt like these are going to fall out.
In terms of phone quality, I received one call during a workout and they worked great. As for connection, i have NOT ONCE had the signal break up or skip. I cannot say this for other sport headphones. This is the biggest endorsement of these headphones.
The few knocks are typical knocks of other small headphones. They use micro-USB. Most of my devices now use USB-C. Not a deal breaker. They don't have a case. Bose does it right when they include carrying bags for their headphones. Their sport headphones have a nice, small neoprene bag with carbaniner hook that is extremely convenient. These headphones do not. They come with a nifty little piece of plastic that allows you to wrap the cord around the headphones, but this makes them even smaller and easier to lose and I've simply resigned myself to the fact that I will lose this piece of plastic (see the photos).
Battery life is good, but there's no battery announcement when turning them on. For example, when you turn any BT Bose headphones on, they announced the battery percentage. This is an overlooked feature that should be required in any high quality headphones. Having said that, I generally charge mine once a week and I have yet to lose power in the middle of a work out.
But these minor quirks are absolutely no deal breakers. These are great sounding headphones, that stay in your ear. The battery life is quite good (although only way to check power level is on your phone). They're small and prone to losing, but you can say that for ANY small workout BT headphones. These are a great buy

Like most Amazon products, this is easy to setup and use. I prefer the UI over AppleTV, but that's personal preference. What makes the biggest difference is App selection. The gap is narrowing now that AppleTV has Prime Video now, but Amazon still has the better selection of apps. But honestly, you can't go wrong. If you're heavily invested in Amazon (Prime membership) I think this is the best option especially taking into account the price. But Apple TV isn't a bad choice either (and Google doesn't have dedicated remote that still bothers me).

I bought this for my wife and she absolutely loves it. It is sturdy and durable. It's just the right size in my opinion. But two big knocks, the outlet to plug it in is huge and it is pricey. It's nice to have, but not sure worth $100. Not saying I have buyer's remorse, but I am wondering if I shouldn't have looked around a little more....

Look, GoPro Karma is a great value (no matter what you think about the drone) given the inclusion of the grip and the camera itself. So it's a little bit of a bummer to spend $100 on a battery, but it's worth it, almost necessary. 18 minutes its not long flying a drone on one battery!

This scale runs off 3 included AA batteries which is nice. It is high quality and it connects to your phone in no time. But even after I purchased it and went through the Hatch Baby App, I find myself scratching my head as to why I spent so much money on it. The magic is in the free app. You can buy a cheap scale and "manually" enter the weight of your little one into the app. Or, you can spend money on this scale that does it for you.
Honestly, what really bothers me is the odd shape of the changing table. I have a table top on my kid's dresser that fits a square changing pad. The Hatch is smaller and leaves a lot of open space.

Great Budget 4K TV, but not best picture
on February 23, 2018
Posted by: callmeageeth
from Louisville, KY
First, I need to point out that I’m no audiophile or picture guru. I generally invest in upper end models of TVs and electronics because it’s in my nature. I assume that the upper end Sony TV is generally better than Insignia or Vizio brand (I do read customer reviews and rely on tech sites such as CNET and Engadget). That’s why, my first foray into 4K television was back in 2014, when I bought a high end 65 inch Sony Bravia TV. SInce that time, I’ve invested money in an Xbox One S, LG Ultra Blu Ray player, and Amazon Fire Stick 4K.
I’ve always been amazed, and have appreciated, 4K resolutions. I like the sharp detail it provides (you must watch Planet Earth II in 4K, it’s a treat). My Ultra Blu-Ray library has expanded and I’m always on the look out for good deals. I do stream 4K shows on occasion (through Prime mostly) but I can’t bring myself to paying extra for Netflix to get 4K on select shows.
Anyways, back to this Sharp model 4K TV. I needed an extra TV and I knew I wanted to get a 4K TV. My issue was, do I want to spend alot of money on a secondary TV to get an “elite” TV or save some money and get a budget TV? I opted to go for the "budget" model which I'm defining as under the $1K price point for 60+ inches in 4K.
I was not disappointed. I plugged my LG 4K Ultra Blu Ray player in and enjoyed a sharp crisp 4K picture. My only gripe and it could be a big one, is that the blacks are not black. I know, I know, it's not an OLED which produce true black colors, but it's pretty washed out on the Sharp. For example, I was watching Guardians of the Galaxy in 4K and there was the black bars above and below the picture. They were a white/black, meaning that they weren't a true black and it did distract ONLY when the video picture was darker (bright scenes had little effect in my opinion).
In terms of the "smart" TV aspect, I used to brush that aside, relying on my Fire Stick or PS4, but I've learned the hard way that not all devices are compatible with the 4K signal or HDCP 2.2 compliant. For example, the TV might be, but your received may not be, so if you plug Apple 4K TV or Amazon 4K Fire Stick or Ultra Blu Ray player into your NON compatible HDCP 2.2 receiver, the picture quality is downgraded to 1080p. At that point, the only way to get full 4K resolution is to plug your device directly into the TV (which isn't always possible) OR the next best thing (and the point I was trying to get to) is to use the smart TV part to connect to WiFi and watch 4K content from Amazon and Netflix directly through the TV. That won't help you if you have an Ultra Blu Ray player, but it is the easiest and cheapest way to get 4K content on your TV.
So, as for the smarts of the TV, they're simply meh. Not bad, not stellar. I do like the dedicated Netflix, Vudu buttons, etc. on the controller. That's a big help. But I use a Logitech Harmony remote which means I don't normally use the Sharp branded remote.
This TV isn't any lighter or heavy than other 4K TVs, although note that 4K flat screen TVs are heavier than you. The TV is pretty easy to set up. You'll likely need help pulling it out of the box, but you just need a Phillips screwdriver to put on the stand legs and voila. Pretty simple. The size of the TV (weight, thickness, bezels) are merely average. It looks like virtually every other TV at Best Buy, which is neither good nor bad.
There are, in my opinion, ample ports for your needs, including component, for those just in case times. The speakers, like ANY TV are weak and I would highly recommend an upgrade, even just a cheap soundbar is better than the wimpy things built in. But I wouldn't not buy it because of the speakers.
All in all, it's a great value and easy way to get into 4K. The picture is better elsewhere, especially the blacks, but only true videophiles and theater junkies will care, the masses will not care about the black color (and if the picture stretches across the screen completely, is less noticeable).

Budget Chromebook with Sacrifices
on February 1, 2018
Posted by: callmeageeth
from Louisville, KY
I never owned a Chromebook before, but am heavily invested in the Android/Google ecosystem. So it's an easy jump for me. I primarily use a 15 inch Acer Aspire R laptop for work, which runs Windows 10.
I have always been intrigued by Chromebooks, I like the idea of having all day battery life (although my Aspire R has pretty good battery life itself) and having a cheap device to surf the web, stream to my Chromecasts, and watch videos on the go.
I've also previously owned a Surface Pro, and while they are fascinating and cool, I just need a bigger screen. So my Acer Aspire R is 15 inches and one of the reasons I chose the Acer Chromebook was the 15 inch size. To me the larger size matters, I would rather sacrifice portability for a bigger screen.
This Acer Chromebook looks good and has a nice build quality, but it's too big. It's too thick and there's a lot of wasted space due to the bezels surrounding the screen. This is even more apparent when you look at the keyboard, which is centered in the computer with a lot of open space to the left and right. In my aforementioned Acer Aspire, there's enough room for a 9 digit number pad to the right. And when you take into account the features this Chromebook lacks, the poor use of space is even more confounding.
The biggest drawbacks in my mind, are the lack of an HD screen (no HD on a bigger than 11 inch screen is noticeable, if this were a smaller screen, you could get away without HD), no backlit keyboard (a shame) and no touch screen. This omissions surely allowed to meet the pricepoint, but to me, it seems like too much given up. 'm so used to touch screens, it's actually weird not having one. And as I said, with a screen this big, and given that Chromebooks are primarily consumption devices, the no HD is a big loss. The size of the Chromebook also makes it less portable. It's not heavy per se, but it's just bulky. My 15 inch Acer Aspire R is a bit smaller and it hits the upper limits in portability. Carrying this Chromebook around is no easy task.
The specs for this Chromebook are also on the bottom edge. But that is no issue. Chromebooks are not meant for resource intensive tasks, so if you plan on doing so, you should find a different operating system/machine. The big issue is 16 GB of HDD space, but that's not an issue to me, my photos and music are through Google Music and Photos, so I don't need HDD space. I'm also not managing documents. And if I needed more space, I would use an SD card. This Chromebook as a full size card slot for SD cards, and the best thing is that if you put one in, the entire card fits inside the computer so it's "hidden."
Onto Chrome OS. I haven't spent a ton of time with it, but I like it so far. I use the Chromebook to surf the web, watch YouTube, stream Netflix and email. Logging in with your Google Account and having instant access to all of Google's services is great. But I must say, you can get a lot of the same functionality on a Mac or Windows machine if you utilize Chrome Web Browser. So far, I can't find value in Chrome OS that I can't get using Chrome Browser on Windows. I'm not saying the value and difference isn't there, but for what I do, I can accomplish the same tasks on Chromebook as I can Chrome on Windows. I have this Chromebook because I wanted a dedicated machine to use at home to act as a hub for my Chromecasts, Google Home speakers, etc. For what I use it for it's great.
This is a good Chromebook, but it's average. If you want a big screen, this could be an option. But if you can spring a few more bucks, I'd look for a model with a better screen that has touch input. And one that has a bit more portability (without sacrificing too much in screen real estate). Assuming you don't have to lug this baby around everyday and it mostly stays in the home, the size and portability shouldn't matter.
I do want to caution those who are just looking for a cheap laptop... If you aren't invested in the Google Ecosystem (i.e. don't have Gmail or don't subscribe to their services) and you are just wanting a cheap laptop, I would make sure you do your homework. A Chromebook might not fit your needs.

I like this case because it is thin and covers most of the edges on the iPad. It is tough to get off (which depending on who you are, may be a good thing) which bothered me because I like to clean both the front and back of the iPad and every time I tried to take the case off I was afraid that I was going to break it. But that's an extremely minor complaint. This case has a done a great job of protecting my investment without a lot of bulk.

I bought this for my mom, who is a bit clumsy (or just doesn't care about her electronics). Her last iPad Air had the screen replaced TWICE. She finally upgraded to a newer iPad when the home button gave out. I must say, this glass screen has saved her from replacing another screen. It absorbs the impact of any drops and while I can't definitively say that the screen protector has prevented cracks in her new iPad's screen, I certainly believe it has. I think glass protectors are an essential accessory for every expensive electronic and Zagg is one of the best brands

Just curious what the flight time experience has been like. Says 20 minutes with no payload; however, is the camera considered "payload"? Is it 20 minutes WITH the camera? Also, how close to 20 minutes is the "actual" flight time?

Given that the camera is required to fly I wouldn't think that the camera is considered payload. I've never tried to fly with any payload mostly because I haven't needed to and it doesn't seem equipped to hold anything (you would have to use some ingenuity to attach something to it). I can speak as to how long it flies without any payload but obviously with the camera. And in my use, it's been between 18-19 minutes of flight time. The very first time I flew it, it landed itself due to low battery around the 18 minutes mark, even though on the handheld controller, the screen said there was 2 minutes of flight time left. I haven't flown it enough while taking video/stills to determine how much that drains the battery. Hope that helps.

Charge 2 GoPro lithium-ion batteries simultaneously with this GoPro AHBBP-301 charger that reliably draws power from select USB chargers, USB-enabled computers or GoPro wall or vehicle chargers (not included), so you can keep your camera ready for use.

Does this have the cable to connect charger to computer? Is there a cord that connects camera directly to computer or wall charger for charging? I think we lost ours.

It comes with a mini-USB cable which you can plug into your computer (I wouldn't recommend because of slow charging) and a wall charger. The same mini-USB cable plugs directly into the camera itself

Double check your specific Android device. Most newer devices accept it, I believe this card was intended for Android devices, but again, I know some devices only accept up to 64 GB card

How do you read a full size sd card?

You would have to get some sort of USB adapter for a full size SD card. It only accepts MicroSD
