See you later space cowboy...

People seem to think Spike's story stopped on the steps of that chapel, but whether you believe that is up to personal perception. I believe Cowboy Bebop the Movie picks up right after Real Folk Blues part 11, and we're missing a bit of story as the gang gets back together simply because they're so amazing!
Entire Cowboy Bebop the Movie. This is a bare bones entry with high fidelity but no perks. The movie has two options; listen to the innate Japanese dialogue with subs, or choose the (better) English voice over cast without subs. There are no extra features, director's commentary or even sneak peeks on this Blu-ray outing. It is also just the Blu-ray, no extra DVD.
The style is akin to Ghost in the Shell SAG, in other words supporting cast people are drawn with more natural faces. Not the ADV 90's faces with huge expressional eyes from the series. They all look the same, don't get me wrong. But aside from Ed, everyone looks like drawn homologs of real people. The colors are drastically brighter than the series. Blues are way blue, gold and reds pop, there's actually green, this is not the same palette we see aboard the Bebop. The transfer is from Sony and it's so precise that you can see the shadows of the cels! That's clean.
The story is pretty simple, Spike tries to thwart a terrorist with a secret past, a major metropolitan population on Mars is at stake, there's a third party involved, Faye somehow get's kidnapped AGAIN providing gratuitous fan service, the movie is filled with familiar tropes and territory. But it is nonetheless a thoroughly enjoyable ride and worth your time. And when can you ever go wrong with more Bebop?
Recommended.

Players have been going on daring adventures with Link for more than two decades. An instant classic, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for the Super NES, introduced gamers to a storyline that has been rejuvenated with The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. With new features and an enhanced look, you'll love embarking on a new journey with Link.Link is setting off on another adventure in Hyrule, but this time he has some new abilities under his belt. Transform into a "drawing" and move along the walls of dungeons, so you can explore locations Link could never reach before and open up new puzzle elements for thrilling gameplay challenges. The amazing visuals and 60 frames per second transform the 2D world and enhance it with elevation and depth for an experience the reinvents the classic. The 3DS also allows more freedom with customized settings — just touch and drag items from the item window and switch them with what are assigned to the X and Y buttons.

A Link to the Past 2.0

22 years later, and ALttP is still at the top of the LoZ food chain. So much so that they released another game JUST LIKE A LINK TO THE PAST!
Enter A Link Between Worlds. The premise is as formulaic as the genre, and that's about the best news I've had all year. All of the classic Link weapons and items are available (sans Bombos, Quake, and Ether) with a few new twists and additions. All of the enemies from the original make a triumphant return, with fan faves like Helmasaur King and that diabolical Floor Master. Music is ripped straight from the original with a few new remixes.
But we get some new with this one as well. While monsters, items and music are close to the SNES original, Hyrule got a distinct makeover. Most places retain there original layout with updated colors/shading, but the flip side of Hyrule (Lorule) is very different from the Dark World. It' s more expressive, restrictive, and the enemies are crazy strong in Lorule, especially when you first get there.
Along with the changed layout, the new trick in this version is changing from overhead 3D on a 2D battle plane, to merging with walls with Link appearing 2D and maneuvering around 3D puzzles. The transition is seamless and you get used to working this system. As such, it's opened up a whole new slew of different puzzles not like ones found in Spirit Tracks, Wind Waker, Link's Awakening, etc.
The one critique I have with this title is that changing items is a pain. There's some system that an NPC tells you about, but it's too convoluted. Instead, I just kept opening items and picking them from the normal menu. This requires the stylus, while battling and moving requires button presses, so you'll be busy using the touchscreen while playing.
I love the Flame Rod and Tornado Rod! The Fire Rod sends a column of fire on the ground hitting enemies multiple times, melting nearly all ice enemies, dealing big damage, and the Tornado Rod is the best Bro Rod in Zelda. It stuns all enemies around Link trying to mob him for ~3 seconds while he avoids damage, and when its upgraded it has an even greater radius and deals more damage. Don't under estimate these two items, they are your bread and butter over the classic bow and sword. Nearly all weapons in the game have a cool down over the classic units. So you can use the bow infinitely without arrows, but you can only fire it so many times before you have to wait. A big improvement in my opinion.
All in all, this is THE Zelda to own if you never played A Link to the Past on the SNES or Virtual Console. Even if you have, it's still a wonderful return to a familiar setting with something new. A must have Zelda entry for any fan.

The Sixth Generation is almost under wraps while S&M loom on the horizon, but that shouldn't detour you from playing one of the greatest installments in the franchise's history!
The differences between Pokémon X and Y are negligible, but basically you get access to Slurpuff, Skrelp, Heracross, Larvitar and Yveltal in this one. Since the GTS is just three stylus touched away, you really will have no problem trading for any you cannot find. Speaking of which, the touch controls are excellent and run perfectly in menus.
The colors, polygons and animations are superb in Y! They're waaay better than the Stadium and even the Coliseum games from N64 and GC era, respectively. They utterly destroy any remnants of shock value from BW, visually this game is as good as we'll probably ever see on handheld. It's a mix between regular polygons and cel shading, almost like they came from the cartoon. Pokémon show statii in battle when they're burned, poisoned, etc.. They have many different attacking animations depending on what moves they use, they even faint differently! Game Freak pulled out all the stops for mechanics.
Breeding mechanics have been revamped, so if you're serious about battling online you can get Pokémon fairly easily with perfect stats. Also, EVERY legendary Pokémon you catch (ie. Mewtwo, Yveltal, Zapdos, etc.) has at least 3 perfect stats, otherwise called IVs of 31. That is outstanding.
The roster is out of sight in these games, and as such you will feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices, especially the unique new Fairy-type. If that wasn't enough, Mega Evolutions premiered in these games and things like Charizard and Lucario get powerful alternatives that will simply steamroll your adversaries in-game. But don't be fooled, you can still have a solid play through with plenty of challenges, especially later when you take on the Battle Chateau.
And then there's the music. Lots of players love the old Gym Leader theme, Champion theme, Battle Mansion, among others from RBY. XY have the best music in my opinion, and I've been playing since the beginning of it all. Truly epic tracks are the Gym Leaders', Xerneas/Yveltal's battle themes, E4's, Lysandre's, Shilour City, the list goes on. Writing this and thinking about the music is giving me goose bumps; the score is truly gorgeous.
I cannot recommend this game enough. It may be a little late for some of the Promo Pokémon, but again you can always trade with passerby players. Voice over internet works on the 3DS, so expect lots of cultural fun talking to people from other nations.
A landmark in portable gaming! And if you love this title, pick up Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire with even more options, animations, adventuring, moves, catching wild Pokémon with Egg Moves, Hidden Abilities, the list goes on.

Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Cappers

There's Snatch, and then there's movies that are like Snatch. Chances are you Googled "movies that are like Snatch" this morning and then started reading reviews for Layer Cake, and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels this morning. Well, you're on the right track!
Snatch is a movie that will go beyond generations. It's 2000s version of Scarface, Casino, Goodfellas or any number of gang/heist movies. The Blu-ray version is a little more than an upgrade of the Deluxe DVD release 10 years ago, but you can't go wrong with the story, setting and style. The menu on the Blu-ray IS obnoxious. Single clicks turn into multiple, menus pop out of random areas, the menu system's a mess. And video quality is showing its age. For whatever reason, the transfer shows banding, dulls, and heavy grain. No real artifacting, but banding is all over the place, especially during the darker sequences and slowed shots. But I can live with these issues for the trend setter that the movie is. The movie is just... glorious.
Layer Cake is a lot like Snatch. English setting, thugs, a confusing plot, characters thrown into a convoluted mess that's completely out of their control. But instead of money and "Da Stone", the drama revolves around a precious cargo of MDMA. Big names are in Layer Cake including Daniel Craig, Tom Hardy, Burn Gorman, English faces that Westerners have been seeing a lot of lately. Layer Cake DOES look fantastic and obviously had Hi Definition in mind when it was made. The jargon is even harder to understand than Snatch, so put on the Subs if you can't understand "bloody" English colloquialisms.
A sky high recommendation for any fella (or gal) that loves Guy Ritchie's style, or who just loves heist cappers in general. Worth every penny!

Wasn't what I needed.

I've used Adobe since my college days, but the most recent Elements wasn't anything special that I didn't already get with 11. What I really needed it for was for taking images from video, and unfortunately they removed that aspect from this version. So I wasn't impressed and returned it after trying the online 30-day version.
The layout is the same from the 10 version and on; bright white background, large icons, easier and more simplified interface. Now, they have a different registration protocol than before for signing into your Adobe account. I actually made an another account with this newer version.
Adobe is really just pushing people towards joining the Creative Cloud. That's fine, and if you're an artist using it for marketing, you would definitely need the CC, it would pay for a complete version of C6 in 5 years anyways. But for those who don't have Photoshop, or don't need Lightroom, Illustrator and all the other bells/whistles, this watered down version might be to your liking. It wasn't for mine.
(Also, the box includes the download card, not a CD. So you'll need internet access.)

For those of you on the fence about this title because it has Pokémon splashed across the title, rest assured it's solid.
Namco and Nintendo have joined hands again, and like Sm4sh, they've created a love child that molds the pros of each and diminishes any cons. Namco is the parent of Soul Caliber, and like Soul Caliber this game is multi-faceted for a fighter. When fighting there's two types of face-offs, Duel Mode where Pokémon are fixed in X and Y axis planes, and Field Mode where Pokémon fight in XYZ. The differences between both modes is large, but the gist is that Field Mode focuses on projectiles and homing in on a target, while Duel Mode is the typical weak attack, strong attack and special attack command layout seen in most fighters like SF, SC, MK and KI. Moves vary by Pokémon, and using certain moves transitions your fighters between these two modes seamlessly, called a Phase Change.
On top of these two modes there's a triad between normal attacks, grab attacks, and counter attacks (leave it to Pokémon to stick another triad in the mix!). Grabs are Super Effective! against counters, counters are strong against normal attacks, and normal attacks pop you out of grabs with destructive force. At first, this won't affect fighting the weaker CPU players, but as you move up the league difficulties and fight online players, you HAVE to understand this triad or you WILL GET CURB STOMPED!!! Naturally, there's counter breaks, guard breaks, grab stops, anti aerials, and piercing attacks, so be prepared to spend a lot of time between tutorials and practice modes to learn your favorite Pokémons' move sets.
Individual Pokémon differ in performance when used; for example Pikachu is quick to get in and out of skirmishes, has multiple projectiles, and caters to quick execution with hit stuns. His counter ego, Pikachu Libre is HEAVY on grabs and hit stuns, is always in the fray, and performs best by boosting his defense and attack when executing certain moves, up close and in your face. Compare this to brutes like Garchomp and Machamp, or technical devils like Gengar, and Pokkén Tournament is ANYTHING but a button smasher.
The graphics are out of site. 60 fps, no lag. Every strand of hair sticks out on Lucario's face. Charizard has individual scales over its visage. When certain players use moves, the moves become incorporated in their attacks, like blue and yellow lighting sparking all over the arena and all over Pikachu's body parts when it uses Electro Ball or Thunder. Namco went all out to slather this fighter in gratuitous amounts of flair and it doesn't disappoint.
The Sound is bombastic. If you get headaches from over stimuli, I suggest turning the SFX to 70% range because they're loud. Music is OK, I'd have preferred more themes from the canon like Gym Battle Gen 1, or some of the incredible tracks from XY. Also, the redundancies in voice actors can get annoying. Garchomp's in particular will make you want to strangle the Japanese voice actor who dubbed his.
5/5 out of five is too broad. I'd have given this 9.5/10. My only big criticism is this entry caters to fan favorites heavily. Pikachu, Charizard and Mewtwo are too iconic to leave out, but Gardevoir and Suicune?... That's that fan service Pokkén it's head in (see what I did there?). With 700+ Pokémon currently, a lot of subjective favorites are going to get sidestepped in favor of general ones.

Pretty standard issue at this point. The value goes to the account shared by both the 3DS and the Wii U (or Wii if you're still using it).
Nintendo has a bit more trouble with their system than some other companies. For example, you have to load the cards into the respective eShop app, but some games use in-game purchases for their DLC. So you'll have to logout of eShop, make sure all software for the games is up-to-date, THEN go into the game which then links to the sShop for purchases. It gets more complicated when you buy something for both 3DS/Wii U as a bundle; they issue a download code that you have to copy down or remember, then input on the other system. Also, Nintendo didn't think things through with zeros and "O"s, or "I"s and ones.
Otherwise you can use it to buy games from the eShop directly, screens for your 3DS, and/or continue your service with some "subscription" apps, like Pokémon Bank. If you plan on getting all the characters and stages in Sm4sh or Mario Kart 8, expect to be buying a lot of these...
I got mine at Best Buy because you can price match with other companies when they're on sale, they add more points to your Membership (a little double dipping), and because the credit card number isn't saved with Nintendo on their servers! This is a really important reason to get prepaids via a seller with cash; the threat of corporate hacking is bypassed.

Since Best Buy seems intent on not letting me voice my opinions on this film, I'll keep it short and sweet.
Cool drawings, loosely connected plot, intentionally crude and dated animation, old voiceover and subpar audio, standard menu, heroine Taarna is as iconic as Mickey Mouse. A true X Generation classic. Would recommend to anyone who doesn't remember the original, and wants to go down memory lane.

"There's always hope Shinji, there's always hope."

"Wat."
Is the operative word the first time you watch 3.33. As a preface, I'm going to TLDR this review to death. I will strive not to SPOIL things, but be advised that it's impossible to talk about the franchise and not spoil things from the 1995 OVA series.
First off, Anno told us from the begging that the Rebuild was going to change midway through it's four film release, and it does, wildly! Second of all, the first two films of the rebuild stick pretty close to the original's storyline, which makes 3.33 a new trope for directorial tangents. Nothing in 3.33, aside from the inclusion of most cast members and about three or four plot devices remains the same from either the original broadcast or the 2 movies. So if you loved End of Evangelion or the original show, you WILL be heartbroken with 3.33.
But don't lose hope! This iteration of the rebuild is glorious. The action is over the top intricate detail after detail. 2/3's of the movie are devoted to fight scenes. 2 freaking 3rds! The plot follows a similar pattern to what's being attempted all along; Gendo is working under the guise of SEELE to implement the Human Instrumentality Project, Misato questions the aim of Nerv since surviving previous calamities, Shinji seeks to find himself in a world of despair, betrayal, manipulation and abandonment. Those are as Eva as you can get and shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. It's the storyline of 3.33 that's going to drift dramatically from canon. Pull-off the nostalgia goggles, realize that the original run was hampered by Anno's depression and budgetary constraints, watch the film and wait patiently another four years for 4.44's conclusion to land before dismissing this entry in the rebuild.
Picture is nearly flawless. With a few artifacts during one or two fight scenes involving polarizing colors, and a few micro-banding issues during some dim lit sequences, the visual portion of 3.33 is mesmerizing. Blu-ray is the only way to watch this movie.
Audio is a problem in this entry for several reasons. Normally my speakers are on 10-12 to hear dialogue. I had to turn the volume up to 23 to hear things clearly! There's really quite moments during playback, especially concerning Shinji mulling his dilemmas over. Then there's explosive bombastic moments during outbursts and action. The result is a juggling of volume controls, something that the other two movies have an issue with as well. I'm hoping one day that anime will be coded with decent audio options for 2.0 stereo AND 5.1 surround, but not in this entry.
The special features in this outing are poor. There's 14 different trailers for the movie, there's one decent featurette showing the production process of sketches, to rushes, to finalizations of the film. Then there's previews for other Funimation works. This is pretty standard, but they're missing the voice actor narrations that we had in 2.22! It would also be nice to see interviews with Anno, as he's the visionary mastermind behind Neon Genesis Evangelion. They did include something very nice with this entry, a small full color booklet showcasing the official artwork of the characters, evangelions, angels, weaponry, and other elements of the movie. Also, the cover jacket is a beautiful matte finish seafoam green cover that fits the disc cover and booklet quite nicely.
Finally, and this is why I give this movie a 3 stars, the controversy surrounding 3.33. The movie premiered in Japan in November of 2012. It was released in North America on February 2nd, 2016. Read that again!!! This is beyond unacceptable. It was milked in theatres at the end of 2013 of various anime conventions, so Funimation decided to halt it's retail release. Then it was delayed a second time to dub the entry, slated for a 2014 release, which mysteriously stopped over night. A third delay occurred when Funimation posted a message on their website stating that Studio Khara wanted to redub the entry so that it followed more closely to the original Japanese script. In the later part of 2015 we were told that the movie would release at the beginning of 2016, a full three and a half years from the original's release AND after the holidays. I've watched this movie backwards and forwards three times straight, along with scanning every possible inch of the special features and nowhere is there an formal apology by Funimation or any of the production studios for the constant delay of this movie! A similar event happened with End of Evangelion back in the early 2000's but this is 2016! Entire series get released within three years! Inexcusable. The movie is also 30 minutes shorter than the previous rebuilds and winds up giving us more questions than answers with the new storyline twists.
So you have a movie that differs greatly from the canon of the series, has poor audio with great video, and took close to 4 years to release stateside for you could read this review. 3 out of 5 is generous, and if it wasn't Evangelion it would be a 1. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to complete their Evangelion Rebuild collection, or anyone who wants to hang on for the wild ride that the rebuild of the series has set up. I would avoid it like Plutonium for anyone who is a stringent lover of the originals, or anyone who hasn't fallen in love with the newer styles of anime fanservice delivery, hates production postponements, or wants more bang for their buck.

Ghostbusters: Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson star as a quartet of Manhattan-based "paranormal investigators". When their government grants run out, the former three go into business as The Ghostbusters, later hiring Hudson on. Armed with electronic paraphernalia, the team is spectacularly successful, ridding The Big Apple of dozens of ghoulies, ghosties and long-legged beasties. Tight-lipped bureaucrat William Atherton regards the Ghostbusters as a bunch of charlatans, but is forced to eat his words when New York is besieged by an army of unfriendly spirits, conjured up by a long-dead Babylonian demon and "channelled" through beautiful cellist Sigourney Weaver and nerdish Rick Moranis. The climax is a glorious sendup of every Godzilla movie ever made-and we daresay it cost more than a year's worth of Japanese monster flicks combined. Who'd ever dream that the chubby, cheery Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man would turn out to be the most malevolent threat ever faced by New York City? When the script for Ghostbusters was forged by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, John Belushi was slated to play the Bill Murray role; Belushi's death in 1982 not only necessitated the hiring of Murray, but also an extensive rewrite. The most expensive comedy made up to 1984, Ghostbusters made money hand over fist, spawning not only a 1989 sequel but also two animated TV series (one of them partially based on an earlier live-action TV weekly, titled The Ghost Busters. Ghostbusters II: Ivan Reitman's sequel to the phenomenally successful Ghostbusters is looser and more self-assured than the original. The film opens with a title reading "Five Years Later" and finds the ghostbusters living in hard times. A restraining order has forbidden the boys to partake in paranormal warfare, and as a result they have had to seek other lines of work. Ray (Dan Aykroyd) and Winston (Ernie Hudson) spend their time performing at children's' birthday parties, and Egon (Harold Ramis) is busy conducting experiments investigating the effect of human emotions on the environment, leaving ghostbusting behind. Venkman (Bill Murray) and Dana (Sigourney Weaver) have split up. Venkman now hosts a local cable show called "The World of the Psychic." Dana, now divorced and the mother of a little baby named Oscar, works as an art restorer in a museum -- and this is where the plot kicks in. While Dana is restoring a portrait of a 16th-century tyrant by the name of Vigo the Carpathian, the portrait becomes hexed. The evil Vigo wants to return to life by taking over the body of Dana's little child. Vigo has enlisted Dana's boss, Janosz Poha (Peter MacNicol), to compel Dana to cooperate. Soon dirty sludge and slime flow through the streets of Manhattan, and the ghostbusters have to reunite to save the city from a funky paranormal evil.

Flawless. The 4K release is a perfect example of why companies should have no problems mastering from film sources, even ones from the 80's. Warner Bros and Fox need to take note! Even the CGI of Slimer looks good in these classic hits.
My favorite part of these two movies is Sigourney Weaver. I'm a huge Aliens fan, and Sigourney is as representative of these as Bill Murray is. I'm hoping that the third movie (currently in post as of this writing) is as fun, visually impressive, and as timeless as Ghostbusters 1 and 2.
I also got this on Sony's BOGO free sale (along with Heavy Metal) that they due periodically! You cannot go wrong with this purchase.
