Star Trek needs no introduction and the J.J. Abrams reboot certainly has earned high marks among many critics. The new cast and new direction for the Star Trek franchise was certainly a bold move, and in my opinion a successful one at that. This film was more thrilling to me than previous most of the previous iterations in the Star Trek franchise.
The UHD presentation for this one is good overall, however there's a caveat. While there are certainly many improvements overall with notable resolution improvements and good use of HDR dynamics and wide color gamut implementation. Still I found this one to be slightly underwhelming due to a problem that I saw that popped up a couple of times, which was macroblocking in some of the brighter highlights. Just to be sure it wasn't a problem with my equipment, I lowered contrast on my set, but it was still readily apparent. It doesn't happen often, but when it showed up, it certainly was noticeable.
That being said, the presentation was otherwise pretty satisfactory, albeit not a huge improvement over the standard blu-ray. I can still recommend this one, moreso if you don't already own the blu-ray version.

Star Trek Into Darkness was a good follow up to the first film in this franchise reboot. This film had just as much entertainment value as the first one, despite lacking in creativity and originality compared to the first. Some may have a problem with Cumberbatch as Khan, but I thought he was quite good.
The UHD presentation was a solid upgrade compared to the standard SDR blu-ray. The notable addition of the IMAX sequences was truly appreciated, especially with the increased resolution and dynamics offered from UHD. The varying aspect ratio was something I really looked forward to because I knew that it only meant an increase in picture fidelity due to the IMAX camera.
This was a worthwhile upgrade to from the standard Blu-ray.

Rogue One was a great addition to the Star Wars Universe. Seeing the great cost that was mentioned in Episode IV put onto film really adds to my appreciation of what transpires in Ep IV. While I don't think I felt quite as connected with the new cast ensemble in this film as compared to say, The Force Awakens new cast, they certainly were still much more believable and relatable compared to much of the cast in Ep I - III.
The 3D was pretty decent, although not the strongest usage of 3D. There is plenty of depth to the picture and use of medium-level separation throughout. There is very little pop-out effects, though. While the 3D doesn't necessarily enhance the film's story telling aspect, the 3D still was appreciable and will be my preferred way to view this film.

Assassin's Creed was not as bad as I originally was expecting. The critics seemed to have shredded this movie to bits, but I found it entertaining. Admittedly its plot was relatively thin, but the movie lends itself to being an action movie, through and through, and I think it delivers on that front. I found the action sequences to be quite entertaining and the visuals of the overall movie to be pretty good as well. The 3D for this movie enhanced the visuals of the film and certainly added to my enjoyment overall.

"Sing" ends up being more entertaining than I originally anticipated. I had more fun with this movie compared to "Secret Life of Pets." I'll admit that I find current pop-culture songs pretty entertaining, despite them not necessarily being my preferred music. The many cover/renditions that show up in this movie added to the entertainment factor. If you can't stand songs from Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, or any other recent pop icon, you may want to steer clear from this movie. Otherswise, definitely check this one out!
Also, the 3D for this movie seemed pretty good. Plenty of depth to the image througout with a few instances of pop-out effects. If you're a fan of the 3D format, it's a worthy 3D addition to the collection.

After being leery of being let-down by another Zelda game, I picked this one up reluctantly. Twilight Princess did not hold my attention, nor did Wind Waker. Breath of the Wild, however, has not only grabbed my attention, it's holding strong to it. I am on a mission to collect as many collectibles as I can this time around, which is a departure from the norm, where I struggle just to finish the main campaign. The expansiveness of this game is awe inspiring. I cannot put this game down. So far, I'd rank this among my top favorite Zelda games of all time, which include Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past. Absolutely would recommend this game.

Doctor Strange might be a bit formulaic in it's overall plot, but that doesn't stop it from being an entertaining movie. Benedict Cumberbatch plays the role as a head-strong Dr. Strange very, very well. The supporting cast, including Tilda Swinton did a great job also, in my opinion. This was one of the most visually stunning Marvel movies to date and certainly added to the entertaining factor of the film.
The 3D effects of this film, even being a post-conversion 3D title, really enhanced the experience as well. The 3D actually felt like an addition that enhanced the overall movie experience.
Definitely would recommend this title and the 3D version!

Civil War is a fantastic addition to the Marvel Universe, but is not quite as good as Winter Soldier as a standalone movie. The conflict between Iron Man and Captain America was plausible. The build up to and the big battle at the Airport was well worth watching.
The 3D aspect of the movie was nice, however not overt. There was a nice depth to the image overall with some decent subtle pop out effects.

The Despicable Me franchise certainly has made a name for itself, including the spin-off movie, Minions. I was not as impressed with this film as I was with the first one; however, this film still retains enough of the heart-felt bond between Gru and his three girls, while adding in additional characters along with them. I think this film just misses it's mark slightly on the urgency for Gru's direction. It's a difficult task to follow up to such a widely successful first movie, but I'd say that this film does an admirable job.
As for the 3D aspect, this film has some very prominent pop-out 3D. The overall depth and dimensionality of the 3D however isn't quite as pronounced as some others, but it certainly is a pleasing 3D presentation overall. There was only one instance that I noticed cross-talk in the image and that was when a couple of soap bubbles were really protruding from the screen on a black background. Other than that instance, I noticed no cross-talk issues, even on other pop-out effect moments.
*Note: I watched this on a LG OLED with passive 3D,which is not as sensitive to inherent cross-talk as the active shutter 3D tech.

Is there a major difference between getting this for someone in the card version vs. getting the digital code version? Is one better than the other and why?
No, there's no difference. Card version has a scratcher on the back that reveals a code, so whichever you choose, you get a code that you need to redeem. Only reason to get one over the other is if there is a sale.
