Despite not completely overcoming the limitations of converting one of the '90s most complex and fully realized series into a two-hour big-screen feature, X-Files: The Movie translates into a substantial DVD with some interesting extras. The disc presents the film in a widescreen transfer with Dolby Digital Surround and 5.1 Audio, and includes bonuses such as a commentary track with director Rob Bowman and series creator/writer Chris Carter, a 40-minute "making of" featurette, three theatrical trailers, and some brief extra footage. Like the film itself, the DVD may not provide enough of The X-Files' intricate world to satisfy diehard fans completely, but they'll still find something to like among its many features.

If you've ever watched The X-Files you should own this DVD. With this movie we finally get proof that the romantic chemistry between Mulder and Scully is not all in our heads. The director's commentary gives some interesting insight, and I also enjoyed the documentary about the making of the film.

Ben Stiller plays a vacuous model in Zoolander, his comedic take on male modeling and the fashion industry. Paramount has done an excellent job on this 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. Sporting very crisp colors, lots of detail, and deep, dark, black levels, this transfer of Zoolander is nothing short of impressive. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English as well as Dolby 2.0 Surround in French and English. The 5.1 sound mix is very good with many instances of surround use in both the front and rear speakers. Zoolander features lots of bombastic music and effects, and the soundtrack takes advantage of these to the fullest extent. Also included on this disc are subtitles in English. This "special collector's edition" of Zoolander includes a ton of bonus materials that should please male models everywhere. Starting off the disc is a commentary track by star/producer/co-writer/director Ben Stiller and writers Drake Sather and John Hamburg. This is a funny commentary track the pokes fun at the film while simultaneously giving insight into the production and story. Five deleted scenes are included with optional commentary that is actually very funny, and five extended scenes show what was cut from the final print of the film. Some outtakes show the cast and crew flubbing up their lines or actions. An alternate title sequence is a different version of the end credits that is really rather pointless. Two skits from the VH1 Fashion Awards are included that give a rare peek at the birth of the Derek Zoolander character. Finally, there is a music video by the Wiseguys, some promotional spots and trailers, and a few photo galleries of some costumes, characters, and stills from the film. All in all, this is a very fine DVD edition of the wacky comedy Zoolander.

If you follow the fashion industry or you just like making fun of models, you will love this movie. Although David Duchovny only makes a cameo, it is a must have for any Duchovny fan's collection. He also has a couple of great outtakes on this DVD.
