GALAXY TAB A RANDOM REBOOT MYSTERY! BUYER BEWARE!
on February 9, 2017

This tablet was working great for the first few weeks. Then it started randomly rebooting when streaming movies from Crackle and Netflix. It has gotten to the point where it reboots 1 to 2 times a day! I have a new 128gb Sandisk SDXC card in it. Movies downloaded from Netflix are saved on the SD card. What a huge disappointment Samsung!

Well balance sound. Comfortable earpads.
on September 17, 2016

You will get well balanced sound from these JBL 300's. Not a muddy overload of bass but just enough for any type of music. Good mid-range for vocals, horns, etc. The highs are descent but could be a little brighter. By comparison, the lower priced JBL Synchos E40BT headphones sound a little brighter but don't have as much bass. The Everest 300's ear cushions are thicker and extremely soft and comfortable. They are cushioned more than the JBL Synchos line. The headband is padded but when it presses the top of my head long enough, I get a mild headache. I have worn these in the gym and even though they aren't noise cancelling, they manage to cut out a lot of surrounding noise. One potential annoyance...the headphones creak a little as the earpieces pivot/adjust to your jaw movements. You can hear the creaks. Note that the headphones do stick out a bit since they made the earpieces with the ability to move independently from the headband. Another possible annoyance...it's easy to hit the pair button accidentally. You have to remember the volume/pause is on the left while pairing/power is on the right. For $149, not a bad product. Better than the overpriced Beats Solo 2 for the money.

Seriously Overpriced 3D Bluray
on June 20, 2016

The 3D effects are great using James Camron's 3D cameras BUT there is no excuse for this 3D bluray being as expensive as it is considering it's not even an hour long. It seems Cirque du Soleil is trying to make up for the people that don't go see the live show by seeing this instead. They get away with it by putting Camron's name on it. I would recommend it only if you can find it heavily discounted.

WiFi Light Out! No Signal!
on December 13, 2015

I started having connection issues about 1 week after flawless usage in my home. I noticed the WiFi icon on my phone was off as well as the computer which showed a blank network settings box. I then looked on the router and noticed the WiFi light was OFF. How could this happen on a brand new router? I had to cycle the power on the router to fix it (until it happens again). I will be returning the product ASAP.

Colors Not Accurate & No 5.1 Via Optical Out
on November 13, 2015
Posted by: ron111
from San Diego
I have a currently working 8 year old Sony 720p flat screen LCD which I used to compare side by side with the Roku Insignia 55". Here's what I found. When it comes to colors, shades of red, yellow, and ocean blue are a bit off. There's a hint of blue in the red. You can see this example on the VW Jetta Christmas commercial featuring a red car. Also look at the Buffalo Bills red uniforms. The Tivo DVR's menu yellow text that says "My Shows" look greenish. The Tivo circular record light looks bluish red. The Netflix opening red screen is another example. Additionally, certain shades of yellow can have a hint of green in them. Example would be the Green Bay Packers colors. Lastly, look at ocean colors. This is one of the best color accuracy tests. On this set, the ocean leans towards an unnatural blue hue, not real life greenish blue.
When it comes to sound, note that the optical out does not output 5.1 audio even if you're on Netflix streaming a 5.1 movie. I found this out when I connected the optical cable to my Onkyo receiver and it showed Pro Logic II only.
As far as motion blur, I watched a half dozen football games and didn't notice anything that stood out. Everything seems acceptable when it comes to motion.
The colors wash out and look off hue when watching from an angle and not at eye level. Like most low to mid line LED TVs, you need to be right in the center which is very unfortunate.
Will be taking back before the short 15 day return period ends.

Poor Battery Charging
on July 27, 2015

A poorly charging battery ruined the 20 minutes of good, powerful sound I was able to get from the TDK Trek 360 sound cube. Out of the box, I charged it until the red light went out. I noticed it took only about 15 minutes to charge. It played music for about 20 minutes and then it died. No power. No after a 2nd recharge attempt, power doesn't come on at all. What's worse, you can't use it while it's charging.

Great Picture When Settings Are Right! Here's Mine
on December 6, 2014
Posted by: ron111
from San Diego
It took me a few days to get the settings just right and what a difference it makes! I'm not using game mode since it greys out some of the settings from being adjusted. The picture is rich in color with deep contrast range. I found that turning on Live Color (low setting) and turning Gamma down to -2 made a huge difference too. If you don't want to ruin the settings you already have, try them on another input since each one can have its own separate settings. I'm not seeing motion blur or a tail on the end of the football in sports (mainly because motionflow and cinemotion are off and the scene selection is sports). I've found that everything looks good with these settings whether I'm watching movies, sports or video files via DLNA.
Like most LCD/LED screens these days, optimum viewing angle is limited to about 30 degrees to either side before you notice the picture washing out. This is different from my old 2007 Sony S series flat screen which has about a 50 degree angle of acceptable view. If you can catch this TV on sale like I did, it's totally worth it.

I actually saw this LG frig next to a Maytag 20.6 cu.ft. frig M1TXEGMYS in Home Depot. I couldn't believe the difference in quality inside and out. Solid shelves in the freezer and refirgerator. A glass shelf in the freezer, not flimsy thin wire shelving like the Maytag M1TXEGMYS. Racks in the doors that don't easily pop off like the Maytag. Nice thick doors. I also love the no-handle doors which are nicely arch shaped.
What's great about it: High quality parts. High quality feel.

NO CHANGE IN SPEED NOTICED YET
on May 27, 2010

I UPGRADED MY MODEM FROM A MOTOROLA SB5120 DOCSIS 2.0 TO THE SB6120 WITH DOCSIS 3.0. I'M IN A COX SAN DIEGO AREA THAT HAS SUPPOSEDLY BEEN UPGRADED TO 3.0, YET WHEN I DID A SPEED TEST, THE DOWNLOAD SPEED IS THE SAME AS THE OLDER MODEM (ABOUT 25 Mbps). THERE HAS BEEN A INCREASE IN THE UPLOAD SPEED (TO 6Mbps) WITH THE NEW MODEM BUT THAT'S IT FOR NOW.
IT SEEMS THAT DOWNLOAD SPEEDS DEPEND ON WHAT TIME OF DAY THE TEST IS RUN BUT THAT'S A CABLE SERVICE ISSUE, NOT MOTOROLA ISSUE. SLOWER SPEEDS OF ABOUT 15Mbps IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY WITH FASTER SPEEDS IN THE LATE NIGHT HOURS. THESE SPEED CHANGES ARE NOT NOTICEABLE DURING NORMAL WEB USAGE HOWEVER.
I CONNECTED THE MODEM DIRECTLY TO THE COMPUTER WITH NO ROUTER IN BETWEEN. IT DOES SHOW THE NETWORK CONNECTION AS Gbps WITH A BLUE ACTIVITY LIGHT. WHEN I CONNECT THE MODEM TO THE WIRELESS N 300 ROUTER, THE NET STATUS CHANGES TO Mbps WITH A ORANGE ACTIVITY LIGHT.
THERE IS NO USB CONNECTION BUT I THINK THAT'S BECAUSE ETHERNET MAY BE FASTER BUT THE OLDER MODEM HAD BOTH. I DIDN'T USE USB ANYWAY IN PREVIOUS YEARS.
AT LEAST I'M FUTURE PROOF IN THE EVENT THERE IS A CHANGE IN THE SERVICE THAT ALLOWS THE 3.0 MODEM TO REALLY SHOW ITS STUFF. I'LL PROBABLY KEEP THIS MODEM FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS UNLESS I DISCONTINUE SERVICE DUE TO EVER-RISING CABLE PRICES.
What's great about it: N/A
What's not so great: NO DOCSIS 3.0 PERFORMANCE INCREASE NOTICED YET

Returning...ASAP!
By Grunt
Less than two weeks old and all apps have failed! I spent three days with customer service to resolve the issue. I was transfered to several "upper level Techs", and promised return call that came 24 hours late. Everything was rebooted, reset, tested, and retested and retested again!. I was passed onto at least 4 different techs with the same results. The last tech gave up and referred this to either, more tech support or custom service (he couldn't tell me who would be calling). At this point I want a replacement.. He informed me they would make a decision whether to continue to either repair or replace the unit.
I informed him that I am the one to make that decision, not SONY and the decision is REPLACE! I want, and paid, for something brand new! I expect it to work out of the box, as advertised, not require repair right out of the box, then have SONY DECIDE IF they'll replace it !!!!
This unit has FAILED along with SONY customer service !!!!! ....right out of the box !!!! Recommend to a friend ?!! I wouldn't recommend this to an EX friend !!!!

Good TV but horrible exchange policy/ service
By Jason1017 from Huntington Beach, CA
I purchased this TV (RCA LED55C55R120Q 1080p 120hz) from the Best Buy in Costa Mesa, CA on January, 24 2014. I got it for $499 on a 2-day doorbuster. Took it home and noticed really bad light bleed on the top left corner. This issue made the whole top left of the screen really horrible to watch. Other than this issue, the picture quality while playing a Blu-Ray on my xbox one looked amazing. I also played some Forza and Call of Duty on the xbox one. I experience no lag or distortion that other use mentioned. The sound quality is really poor but I expect bad sound quality from all HD TVs. (Most TV's now a days require a sound bar or 5.1 sound system for good audio.)
The problem I have is the customer service at Best Buy. I went to swap out this TV with the exact same model at the Westminster, CA Best Buy. I waited a little while before anyone in the home theater department assisted me. Once I got someone to assist me, I told Hal (magnolia tv department guy) that my TV had really bad light bleed and that I wanted to swap it out for a new one. He told me that I either had to drive clear to the Compton, CA store to swap it out, OR I could return it, get my $500 back, and then re-buy it when they get one in stock BUT I would have to pay the difference. (currently $100 more than what I paid). He said they COULD NOT order one in for me. I told him I would have no problem waiting for the TV to come in. I find it ridiculous that they can not just return the TV and do a price over ride when another one comes in. Then he (Hal) tried to make me spend more money and buy a different TV.
Again, the TV is a great deal but the customer support form Best Buy is just AWFUL. I just want a TV that has no issues. Until Best Buy can help me out, I give it a 1 star review.

How can you say it's a good TV if it had bad light bleed? I wouldn't expect RCA (or whatever overseas company owns the RCA name) to be as good as Sony, Samsung, or Panasonic in terms of picture quality and defect rate.

Off center viewing angles

Keep in mind that the more expensive TV's can be better at off dead center viewing. They tend to allow more of and angle of view without as much washout of the picture. Check the website Rtings dot com for ratings for angled viewing.

1 year parts and labor
November 4, 2015
You don't need an extended warranty per say in this case since it has 1 year on parts/labor and is the store's own brand. Unlike the major brands, my understanding is Best Buy handles the fixing of Insignia products directly since it's their house brand. For example, if a Vizio had a problem and no extended warranty, YOU would be responsible for contacting the manufacturer and sending it out.

Horrible
By Sam123456
My husband and I were looking for TVs at a regular price. At $599 it seemed like a great deal. He purchased our last Vizio around 9 yrs ago and its still going strong so we thought we would stay with this brand. We've literally had the TV for 1 full day and now it won't turn on. It started with the logo coming on and staying then the power just went out. We now have to re-box and drag it back to the store.

What a deal if your not expecting too much
By Tommy
Well, I haven't got the buzzing that many of the people reviewing this have complained about. For gaming the picture is great. For cable @ 1080 the well lit scenes look good, but dark scenes are very grainy and just bad.
A viewing angle of anything over 45 degrees, color performance really goes down hill.
Overall, if you watch it from 12 feet away, or more, this set is worth every penny.

Limited off-center viewing angles on LED TV's
November 13, 2015
It's very hard to find an LCD/LED flat screen that looks good from an angled seating position. Supposedly some Vizio, LG,and Sonys (not the low end Sonys) are better in this department. Missing plasma screens big time because they don't have that problem The new OLED TV's can't come down in price fast enough.

Has Major Issues With 1080, No Calibration Options
By moomoo
Pt 1, 10/28/15:
Poor picture quality, awful tuner sensitivity, loose jack panel, 60 hz refresh rate (motion is slightly unnatural) & various "glitches".
Shares remote codes with my Iview outboard d/a tuner box, which limits use of the box's remote. I've never seen that before with any 2 components.
Picture issues include tons of digital grain, poor contrast, an appearance similar to low video bit rate (remember in the early days of Windows when a video card driver didn't load? Other then bright portions of a film, that's about what this set looks like from my Blu-ray player. It does look much better with over the air Television broadcasts) , unnatural motion & all films look like they were shot on video (regardless of source). The sales rep called what I described as a "Soap Opera" appearance; I would have to agree with her.
It also has an issue with my outboard tuner box running in HDMI; it causes the set to malfunction (the picture basically looks like it's on drugs on all inputs) , so I have to run the over the air tuner box with a component connection.
Source is a $1,000 Oppo blu-ray player through a quality 12' HDMI cable running at 1080p. I have spent considerable time tweaking the settings.
Going back for an exchange for a different brand.
Addition:
One thing I have discovered; I don't know why this helps but it makes a SIGNIFICANT difference:
If playing a dvd, set your blu-ray player's output for 480p, & dvd's become watchable (though not great).
Blu's are also mediocre; but SLIGHTLY better than playing a DVD at 480, & much better than playing a DVD at 1080. My blu-ray player is a $1k Oppo BDP95, & has an excellent picture.
I don't know what I'm going to do. There are very few 55" models under $600 (I need a 55, because I watch alot of full screen). AFAIK, the main players are Sharp & Toshiba, which both are considered low quality like this RCA; & a Vizio I had planned on getting; but the Vizio has legs on the outside corners, rather then a base in the middle (STOOPID) & in my case that would limit my choice to sitting it directly on a carpeted floor; & for several reasons I have some real discomfort with that (safety, comfort & enjoyment). I have 3 days to decide. The frightening thing is I may keep this, as much as I dislike it.
Oh, & this set does not allow for meaningful calibration; it doesn't have the settings.
Pt 2: 11/1/15:
I've discovered the RCA's main issue: it just can't handle 1080. Broadcast TV needs to be 720, & DVD 480 to look decent. In fact, DVD can look quite good at 480. Blu-ray looks mediocre at all resolutions, but is better at 720 then 1080. Your source needs to be able to set/change the native resolution, as the TV will show everything at the source's output resolution.
I don't know how to dial down the built in tuner to 720; I am using an outboard box. The box automatically outputs 720 with the component connection, & 1080 with the HDMI.
If you can live with the above (blu's look mediocre, & nothing looks good at 1080; upsampled or not), it's actually not that bad (I paid $409).
I decided I can't live with it, it's been exchanged for the equivalent Vizio. The Vizio is better; it's also significantly more expensive.

No color calibration menu options is VERY good to know. Same problem with the Insignia Roku 55".

Is this 3D ready?

Confusing if this is a 3D capable TV by the specs?
