Spectacular in 4K -- Especially for Train Lovers

My late father worked on the railroad for nearly 40 years, beginning his career when steam locomotives were still the standard. So, of course I grew up as a train buff. As with most IMAX documentaries, the photography is excellent and many of the panoramic scenes are breathtaking. From shots taken inside the cab, to the aerials of engine #2816 steaming through the Canadian Rockies, the visuals are spectacular, especially in 4K Ultra (HDR).
More so however is the compelling story behind these great images ... the story of how the Canadian transcontinental route was built. A fantastic story. If you're a train lover, then you must add this to your collection. Even if you're not, it's still worth the watch.

Does the Job - A Couple of Annoyances

I needed stands for my Onkyo Home Theater front speakers, in order to raise them up to the level of the TV. The Onkyo speakers are a little over 7 lbs, and have a keyhole mount on the back. The Sanus Adjustable Speaker stands seemed to serve my needs. The stands come with a variety of hardware and mounts to accommodate various types of speakers. However, I wound up having to perform a bit of "jury-rigging" in order to get them to accommodate my particular speakers properly. This included replacing a couple of the provided screws with slightly longer ones. Also, in part because of the way the speakers have to hang off the front of the stands, it makes them a bit top-heavy. This meant having to adjust the stands to lean slightly backward in order to compensate for the weight of the speakers.
Speaking of weight, although the speakers are under the advertised maximum weight, one of the expandable stands kept collapsing. The bolt that's supposed to lock the height adjustment in place, couldn't be tightened enough to do so. The slightest motion of the stand would cause it to collapse, no matter how much I tried to tighten that bolt. It's strange that this happened only on one of the two stands though. Regardless, I had to do a bit more jury-rigging to secure that particular stand.

I'm giving these stands 4 stars because, despite those annoyances, and despite the extra things I had to do to make them work, they're doing the job. Generally, I think they're well-constructed (except that the tightening-bolt issue should probably be addressed). I'm guessing that part of the problem for me is the weight, size, and mounting style of my particular speakers. Others may not encounter these same issues.
So, I recommend these stands ... with an asterisk!!!! Some folks may have to do a little jury rigging to make them work.

Excellent Performance - Faster than my X6

Although I've been very happy with my Nighthawk X6, I wanted to add MU-MIMO wireless support as I now have another device that can take advantage of it. The X6 is still working perfectly so I decided to keep that operational and position the new X8 on a different floor in order to provide even better coverage throughout my house than I had before. The two routers work well together (I set them to use different channels). Comparing the two however, the X8 is clearly the faster router. My MU-MIMO capable device connects to the X8 with more than twice the throughput of that when it connects to the X6. My non-MU-MIMO devices see about a 20% gain when connected to the X8. That's not to say the X6 is a slouch ... it still offers very impressive speeds, but the X8 is simply newer, faster technology.
One other note ... I considered spending the extras $$$ for Netgear's X10 router. While it offers support for the new 802.11ad standard, it does so at the expense of dropping one of the two 5Ghz bands offered by the X6 and X8. Since I don't have any 802.11ad devices (nor is it likely I will anytime in the foreseeable future) I decided that it was better to get the X8, have the second 5Ghz band, and save some bucks in the process.

Awesome Movie - Great in 3D

I'm a Star Wars fan and I love them all ... but from my perspective, this is one of the best. In my opinion, the film making and story telling are much closer to the original than are some of the other more recent films in the series. I'm also one of the few remaining 3D fans, and for those if you who like 3D, this is definitely worthy of being in your collection.

There's really not a lot one can say about an extra handset for cordless phone system. This one works well and was very easy to register to the system. In my case, the maximum number of handsets supported is 6. The system came with 5 and I purchased this extra one. However, it is my understanding that if I ever decide to purchase the optional range extender for the system, it will require me to forfeit one of the handsets because it counts as one of the 6 handsets. Just something to be aware of.

I had a Panasonic cordless phone system that served me well for over 14 years. I finally decided that I wanted more handsets, but I couldn't find any available for such an old model. I have both a land line and a cell phone, and this new system from Panasonic works wonderfully with both. It's now so easy to answer cell phone calls and land lines calls from the same handset. Cell linking is automatic ... as soon as I walk in the door each evening, the system detects my cell phone and links instantly. Very handy. First of all, my big disclaimer: Although I have a home office, I'm not using this new phone in that location. I purchased it to replace an aging (and failing) phone in another room where I simply wanted access to both of my phone lines. So in many respects, purchasing this unit was overkill ... and I'm very unlikely to ever need the full 4-line capacity. On the other hand, this phone appears to be very well constructed, and programming it is relatively easy. Navigating the various features is also straightforward and the sound quality is excellent. The display is clear and the backlight automatically shuts off after a period of time when not in use (something I really like). Since I only have one of these units, I can't comment on the intercom feature.
There's really not much more to say about it. It's a good phone and I'm anticipating that it will serve me well for years to come.

This is sort of a prequel ... that is, it tells the "history" of the Minions, leading up to the point where they meet Gru, from Despicable Me. (Although Gru is only in the last few minutes of the movie. Minions is a lot of fun. It moves along fairly quickly and keeps you interested (and laughing). Not the funniest movie I've ever seen (hence the 4 stars) but certainly worth seeing.
