This Acer Swift laptop is capable of doing the everyday task like email, playing media, web browsing and most office applications. The AMD GPU isn’t the most powerful but it should be able to play most games at a HD resolution. The computer comes with several AI based software applications that can help you improve everything from your workflow to your art/photo manipulation. The 16” Touch Screen is bright and colorful and its slim profile make it easy to transport in the included case. The 16gb of memory and 1 tb of storage should be plenty for most users but note that neither can be upgraded easily.
Pros: - Touch Screen that lays flat - 1 tb of NVMe Gen 4x4 storage - Runs fairly quiet and cool even in Performance mode - Ai ready and capable - Built in GPU and NPU - Nice travel bag to protect the laptop
Cons: - Not upgradeable – no open NVMe slots to add storage
Tech Specs: The display is a touch panel with a 1920 x 1200 resolution and a 120 hz refresh rate. The built in GPU is an AMD 840M and the included AMD software gives you limited control of its performance. Bottom lines is that this laptop is ok for entry level gaming and media applications as shown below in the 3D Mark scores. The AMD AI 7 445 is a six core, twelve thread processor that provides a balance between performance, battery life and heat. During the Geekbench 6 stress test the fans were relatively quiet and the laptop didn’t get hot – see the Geekbench results below. The laptop has a NPU and is AI capable for those wanting to run AI apps. The laptop has 16 mb of DDR5 ram which should plenty for most apps. The SSD is a NVMe 1 tb SSD and its a PCIe gen 4x4 so its fast. Note that the memory and storage cannot be easily upgraded. There is only a single SSD storage slot which is occupied and the memory is not accessible. The laptop has two USB-A 3.2 ports, two USB-C ports, an HDMI port, and a Micro SD and Headset jack. Acer Software: There are several installed software applications that use AI to help with everything from your workflow to your photos and art. The Acer Sense software allows you to manage the laptop’s performance as well as manage the battery utilization.

These Insignia Speakers are a low cost solution to adding standalone speakers to a laptop or desktop. Before considering them however you need to verify that you have a spare USB port to supply power and an audio out/headphone jack on your device. If you don’t have a spare USB port you will need an additional USB power supply to get power to the speakers. The right speaker has the USB cable for power, the audio cable to connect to your device’s headphone jack and the speaker cable to the left speaker. Be aware that the cable between the speakers is 36” long and it is permanently attached so you cannot separate the speakers more than 3 feet. The audio quality is what you would expect from speakers in this price range. They lack bass and treble and the midrange becomes muffled as you increase the volume. When using them for video calls the audio was better than using the laptop speakers. When using them to listen to music or play games the lack of lows and highs are sorely missed but again they are an improvement over my laptop speakers. On the front of the right speaker there is an on/off – volume control, a power led indicator and a headphone jack. The on/off – volume control worked fine and having the ability to turn them on/off is definitely an advantage. Overall I found the speakers to meet the basic needs for adding external speakers however I would recommend considering spending more money and get speakers with a subwoofer and Bluetooth connectivity.

Overall there is a lot to like about the Arctis Nova Pro Omni. I found the fit to be comfortable for their size and the earmuffs along with the ANC seal out any external sounds. The spare battery and charger in the base station guarantees you will not run out of battery life. The base station provides the ability to mix your audio feeds and there are lots of connectivity options using 2.4 wireless or Bluetooth. I found the sound quality to be good and you can access over 320 different preconfigured equalizer settings to match your game play. There is both a mobile app and pc software that allows you to configure the audio quality to your specific needs. The headphones do support spatial audio but even using the software I wasn’t as impressed with the spatial separation compared to other high-end headphones.
Pros: - Solid build with good audio quality and ANC - 2.4 wireless and Bluetooth connectivity that allows up to three simultaneous connections via the base station - Replaceable battery with spare included - Feature rich Apps for mobile and pc - Retractable recessed microphone - Base station with Display and battery charger
Cons: - Not the best spatial audio separation - Limited voice prompts vs tones
Performance: I found the 40mm drivers provide good sound quality and the ANC does a respectable job isolating you from external sounds. Within the GG Windows app and the mobile app there are preconfigured equalizer settings for over 320 various games and listening modes. I tried many of them including the equalizer settings for Asseto Corsa, War Thunder, Beam NG, Sniper Elite, Star Wars and Minecraft. For the most part I felt the equalizers did a decent job and there is a custom mode that you can configure for your specific needs. The only downside I felt was in the Spatial audio playback. The Steelseries GG software does allow you to configure the spatial audio however when playing some games they just didn’t seem to provide the spatial separation that some other high-end headphones provide.
Set Up: Once I had the base station connected to my gaming pc I downloaded the Steelseries GG app for Windows. The app is user friendly and I was able to download the latest firmware for the base station and headset. Next I downloaded the app into my iPhone and verified that I could control the headset from the Windows app as well as my mobile app. This is great if you plan on gaming using your phone or a console. The Windows app does offer some additional features but the mobile app covers all the basics. The connectivity is simple on this headphone because you can use the 2.4 wireless or Bluetooth to the base station as well as Bluetooth directly to your mobile device or tablet. Sadly these headphones use tones vs voice prompts most often so you don’t get a voice prompt telling you that you are in pairing mode or connected. Instead you get tones which you have to interpret.
Fit and Feel: These are rather large headphones but they have super soft earmuffs which help seal out the ambient noise as well as cup your head softly. There is an elastic headband strap that you can adjust to control how much of the headphone’s upper arm contacts your head. For me this really improved the overall feel of the headphones because I no longer felt a bar sitting on the top of my head. Also because of the way the headband sits on my head I didn’t notice the weight of the headphones nearly as much. The earmuffs and speakers are large enough to cover my entire ear and they didn’t create any issues for me when wearing my glasses.

This Odyssey G5 monitor provides good video for gaming at a respectable QHD resolution with a 180 fps refresh rate. But it is a royal pain when it comes to accessing the On/Off and the OSD control because of its location. The OSD control is no longer directly below the Samsung badge on the front like the older G5s but rather 2 inches up on the rear of the monitor. For me this means raising up the monitor so I can get my hand behind it every time I want to change a monitor/display setting which is not convenient.
Pros: - The ISP display is bright with good color saturation and reasonable blacks - High speed refresh rate at 180 hz @ 2560x1440 resolution - Versatile stand and VESA compatible for mounting
Cons: - The OSD and On/Off control are extremely difficult to reach from the front of the monitor - Lacks USB-C video and only has one HDMI and one Display Port - No USB ports - Power on LED is very small and only visible from the back of the monitor - There is no RGB lighting
I cabled up the monitor to one of my gaming computers with a Nvidia 4080 graphics card and ran it through several monitor tests checking for dead pixels, color consistency and refresh rates. Everything tested fine but I had to make some changes using the OSD to get the display quality that I like. There are 10 preconfigured settings for gaming types (Entertainment, Graphic, ECO, Game Standard, RPG, RTS, FPS, Sports, Original and Custom) that allow you to choose what looks best for your games. When playing various games I found that the Game Standard and the FPS settings worked fairly well. The images were crisp, the colors were bright and variance from white to gray to black gave the scenes decent depth. Overall I liked to image quality and other than the OSD location it’s a worthwhile gaming monitor.

This keyboard has some very unique features that I have not seen before. It has a slider bar control and function buttons on the rear of the keyboard which are actually very handy once you get used to them. The indicator bar across the top not only looks good but provides important information on the functions you have selected. Asus definitely didn’t follow the typical design pattern and it really shows with this keyboard. Overall I like it and would recommend it for any gamer especially if you travel to gaming parties with a keyboard.
Pros: - Tunable magnetic switches - Actuation Point and Rapid Trigger are configurable - Configurable macros and profiles - Intuitive indicator lights and controls on the keyboard - RGB lighting and options - Very portable, included case is very nice
Cons: - Wired only, no Bluetooth or 2k wireless - No Preconfigured Macros or Profiles for popular games
The keyboard has some heft and feels very solid. The cupping on the keycaps is more defined than other keyboards I have used and I think it improves the centering of your fingers. Asus uses Hall Effect/Magnetic switches which give you the ability to define your activation and deactivation points of your keystroke. Basically this allows you to configure how sensitive the keys are when pressed. I have this feature on several other of my keyboards and while its an interesting feature its tough to define how much it really improves your FPS games especially if you are a masher of keys. The keyboard has sound insulation that makes it slightly quieter than most mechanical keyboards. The software to configure the keyboard is not an app but rather an Asus webpage. This allows you to make all the adjustments to the keyboard however if you want to use macros you will have to install two downloads: the companion app and the utility app which then launches when you open the web page. While this works ok it seems to be slightly less refined than some of the competitors apps. Note that there are not any preconfigured macros or profiles for the more popular games.

Overall the BlendBOSS does a nice job blending everything from protein shakes to fruit smoothies but it can struggle with ice. It is a small powerful blender that is perfect for making drinks without sacrificing a large amount of counterspace. Due to its size and shape it does tend to be noisy but not more than other blenders we own. We have found that the 26 oz cup is big enough to make two nice sized drinks. The top of the cup attaches to the blade assembly and it locks into place without any issues with leaking. The set up is well designed and its easy getting the cup connected to and separated from the blade assembly without undue twisting. The handle on the cup makes it portable and its designed to fit into most cup holders. The three programmed settings Blend, Ice Crush and Smoothie blended everything we have made thus far with ease. The only down side we had was when we tried to crush large amounts of ice. Because the cup is shaped to fit into a car’s cup holder it has a smaller diameter in the bottom. When you place the cup on the blender that smaller area is now at the top. When I blended anything with a large quantity of ice the lower area around the blades push the upper ice farther up into the smaller area of the cup thus never contacting the blades. I included several photos showing how this occurs. Note that this is only when blending large quantities of ice. When blending a smoothie with lots of other ingredients they tend to fall back down onto the blades so everything gets blended nicely. Bottom line is if you are planning on using this for making snow cones or heavily iced items you will have to stop the blender and use a spoon to move contents off the bottom of the cup.

I have used several gaming mice but this is the first one that my medium sized hand struggled to adapt to. The ergonomic feel of the mouse is fine and the overall build quality is great. But to make use of the extra buttons forces me to move my index finger which causes me to lose control of the primary top button. This is fine if you are using the buttons for non-action functions but in the midst of a battle it becomes a losing option. If you have large hands you may be able to activate the new buttons without issue but I struggled with it whether I used a palm or claw grip on the mouse. This is a good mouse but its definitely meant for people with large hands and flexible index fingers.
Pros: - Ergonomic fit for large hands - Very responsive - 10 Configurable buttons - Mouse material is easy to grip - Bluetooth, wireless and wired connectivity - Long battery life - Configurable RGB lighting
Cons: - No storage for the wireless dongle - The extra buttons are not easily reached and take time to adjust to
The IronClaw has all the top specs for being a responsive gaming mouse. The buttons have good actuation feedback when pressed and they aren’t overly noisy. The issue I have with this mouse is the placement of the extra buttons. On my Corsair M65 all the buttons are easy to access and trigger. However, on the IronClaw there are three buttons that sit above the forward/back buttons but they are below the index finger area so they are too far to reach with my thumb and force me to remove my index finger from the main button to access them. So even though these buttons can be configured for any function/macro via Corsair’s iCue software I found that I could only use them for non-intense actions. When playing Planet Crafter I assigned them the inventory and crafting functions and I was happy. When playing War Thunder I assigned them fire control and repair modes and needless to say I was not successful trying to find these buttons under fire! With time I am sure I would adapt to these buttons but I don’t find them intuitive. If you use the mouse more as a palm grip vs a claw grip then the buttons are slightly easier to reach but they still aren’t in an ideal location for my hand. The mouse sits tall and feels heavier than most gaming mice but I find the extra heft also allows you to be more accurate when playing FPS games. The textured sides are great for gripping but the thumb rest is bare minimum. Using Corsair’s iCue software you can configure profiles and macros as well as the RGB lighting.

Gaming keyboards continue to evolve and add complexities and capabilities that most of us gamers never realized we needed. This Razer Huntsman offers some unique features that give you options for customizing your keyboard beyond the typical macros and profiles. Whether they actually improve your reaction time and overall gaming score is tough to say but these days every little edge helps especially in FPS type games. The downside is that all these options can add a level of complexity especially if you aren’t tech/gaming savvy. Razer Synapse software does offer several of the more popular profiles preconfigured so you can get improvement out of the keyboard by sticking to their recommended settings. For anyone who wants to tweak everything from the keystroke actuation to the key’s functionality this keyboard is for you.
Pros: - Analog optical switches - Keys and keystroke feel refined - Great RGB options - Total customization via Synapse software app - Preconfigured profiles - Wrist mat included
Cons: - Lots of composite / plastic used in the build - Synapse can be overwhelming in options but there is a tutorial - Profile Led indicator not the best
Overall: The keyboard feels solid and the key stroke sound is typical of mechanical keys – noisy but not annoying. Many of the keyboard options can be implemented via the keyboard vs the Synapse software. I used the software to set up my configurations and profiles and then used the keyboard strokes to flip between profiles.
Synapse Software: I have used Synapse before with my Basilisk mouse, BlackShark headset, Freyja HD chair pad and other Razer keyboards so I wasn’t totally shocked by the options available for this keyboard. Using the Synapse software you can configure everything about this keyboard. The biggest advantage that I have found is the ability to set keystroke actuation distance. There are five preconfigured profiles, Factory Default, FPS Rapid Trigger, Analog WASD, Racing and High Sensitivity. I found my self using the FPS Rapid Trigger for all my shooting games and the High Sensitivity setting for all my fighting games. Its very easy to use the shortcut keys to change profiles however you have to be careful because if someone selects the WASD profile the w, a, s and d keys no longer type and will make you think the keys have failed!

Good Security not so good VPN or Parental Controls
on December 15, 2025
Posted by: explore42
Overall I think Bitdefender Total Security does a good job protecting you without overwhelming your pc’s resources and it doesn’t nag you with continuous upgrade and renewal notices that other software providers do. On the downside the VPN limits are so low that the VPN protection is fairly meaningless and the Parental Controls aren’t the most intuitive or responsive. Bottom line is if you don’t need VPN access or already have a VPN provider and you don’t need Parental Controls then this is the security software to get. If you require a VPN then I suggest you look at other Bitdefender packages that include unlimited VPN access.
Installing Bitdefender is quite easy, you create an account and download the software. It is automated enough where even non-technical people should be able to install the software without issue. Once the software is installed you can go to the Bitdefender dashboard to verify that you are protected and configure the software to your specific needs. You can also run virus scans and vulnerability scans manually when/if ever needed. On the Protection tab in the dashboard you can see what protection is turned on and what additional protection is available to you. This software offers you a complete suite of protective services and it’s easy to turn on/off whatever you need. There is also a Privacy Tab on the dashboard that allows you to customize your privacy settings by controlling cameras and microphones as well as setting up Anti-tracker capabilities. The Parental Control was not the easiest to configure nor was I impressed with the results. I was able to get it to limit device access to specific sites however I could not get it to limit the time on line. The Utility tab offers additional tools like an optimizer and file shredder. I have found the file shredder to be quite useful to permanently delete financial files. On the Notification tab you can see all the Critical, Warning and Information notifications that have occurred. While this information is interesting to a technical person most people will find this information misleading or possibly confusing. For example I have several Critical notifications for Suspicious Connections blocked when I was web browsing on a legit business website that I trust. Rather than concern myself with these types of notifications I trust Bitdefender to do its job protecting me.

The HyperX Cloud Flight 2 headset overall provides acceptable audio quality but it lacks the app support and features to set it apart from the competition. The fit and feel are a tad tight for me but the foam ear muffs are reasonably comfortable and the RGB icons on the ear muffs add a touch of fun.
Pros: - Limited verbal status - Blue tooth and Wireless supported with dongle provided - RGB support on ear muffs - Removeable microphone
Cons: - No ANC - Supporting Ngenuity app and software is lacking in features and options - Cannot reassign buttons - Cannot connect to two devices like pc and mobile simultaneously - No flip up microphone for mute function - Lacks gaming presets
Performance: I installed both the current version of Ngenuity and the newest beta version of Ngenuity. Neither software version provided the features that many other competitors offer. The Ngenuity software allows you to verify the battery level, set an audio equalizer and set the color and patterns of the RGB on the ear muffs. The beta Ngenuity starts to incorporate dimensional sound configurations but nothing worked for me but because it’s beta software that is not unusual. In neither version was I able to reassign the button functionality or select from preconfigured audio equalizers based upon game type or setup/verify the surround sound features of the headset. I was also disappointed that the headset was not natively configurable in the Omen gaming software on my new Omen laptop. The microphone worked well and I like the fact that it can be removed when not in use but it doesn’t support the flip up mute function that many headsets provide. The sound quality was good and it had respectable bass and highs. There is a multifunction button on the earmuff but I could not get it to do anything nor could I find a place to configure it in the software.
Fit and Feel: Even though there is a lot of plastic used in the construction of the headsets they look and feel solid. The ear muffs are round enough to cover my entire ear comfortably but they clamp tightly. During long sessions of gaming I found the foam pads to remain soft and supportive but they do get warm after time.
