Comfortable and Great Sound Quality

Over the years I have had many pairs of headphones both wired and Bluetooth. This is probably the best pair I have ever had. The headphone is very comfortable both on the ears and the padded headband. The sound quality is excellent but the noise cancellation is not as good as my cousin's Bose Quiet Comfort pair. The headphone's Bluetooth paired with my iPhone very easily and it came with an audio cable if I want to use it with a player without Bluetooth. It also came with the standard USB to Micro-USB for charging the headphone. The buttons on the edge of the earpieces allow you to raise and lower the volume, turn off noise cancellation, pause, advance and "rewind" tracks, answer phone calls and of course power the headphones off and on. Using Sony's "Headphone Connect" app allows you to change the settings of the environment such as arena, club, concert hall, etc. You can also control the equalizer to control the quality of the sound such as bright, excited, mellow, relaxed, etc. There is also an option called the Sound Quality Mode that lets you choose between priority on Sound Quality or priority on Stable Connection should the sound skip. The battery level of the headphones can also be seen in the app so you can see if you need to charge them. The app sill also show you the name and artist of the track you are listening to and control pause, froward and back so you don't have to switch between apps. There is also a feature called DSEE which stands for Digital Sound Enhancement Engine. According to Sony DSEE enables you to listen to your library in near high resolution quality. I am wondering if it is possible to replace the ear pads should they get worn out as I can't find any information online about replacing them.

I like to have the latest and greatest gadgets available at all times. Years ago I had a biometric lock that opened my door by swiping my finger against it. After many years it stopped working and I got a Kwikset combination lock that at the time promised WiFi capabilities by inserting a WiFi card into the back of the lock. They never made one for that particular model so I opened the door using the combination. Now that I saw this Nest X Yale lock, it looked nice and it looked promising so I called Nest to inquire since I couldn't find any info online at the time. They said they didn't have any information on the lock prior to it hitting the store shelves. I waited until it was in the stores and called them again. They told me although it worked with the app, it didn't have voice control but I was told it did have "geofencing" so as I approached the lock with my phone, the lock would open. That sounded good so I got it. I removed the old lock and replaced it with this one. The installation was pretty simple, the only issue was I needed to make the hole in the door ever so slightly larger so out came the Dremel and the lock installed in minutes. It connected to the app by scanning the QR code on the back of the lock and the QR code on the Nest Connect module that is included and plugs into an outlet. The app worked great, opening and closing the lock by holding my finger on the unlock icon for two seconds until the circle around the icon completed. I went into the settings and moved the map around until the arrow pointed to the front of my house so it looked like I set the geofence. Now for the test. I walked out of the house and nothing happened. OK, not a big deal, I pressed the Yale icon on the front of the lock and it closed. I went away and when I came back, I expected the lock to open as I approached but no such luck. I pressed my combination on the front of the lock and it opened. I went online again and still no info so I called Nest again. This time I was told it didn't have geofencing and I had to use the app or the front panel of the lock to open it. So when I'm getting home with packages in my arms, I have to take out my phone, unlock the phone, locate the app and press it, wait a few seconds for it to load, click the Front Door icon then press and hold the large circle for 3 seconds until the circle completes and the door opens. What's the benefit? I can pull out a key and open a lock way faster. In this case, there is no key! I have to punch in my combination on the door. What's the difference between this lock and my previous lock? Nest says that they are working on implementing voice control but it won't be available for a while. I looked for other ways to automate it like IFTTT.com but there is no applet available for it there either. It needs to be able to be controlled by Siri so I can open it from the outside. Making it work with Alexa, Google Assistant or Cortana would only help if I were in the house and I can always just walk to the door and open it on the way out.
If they can get Siri to work with it, I would give it 5 stars but the way it stands now, I really can't recommend it as a key lock would be faster.

In the past, I have always built my own PC's. The last one I built was back in 2009. It was very expensive because I used the brand new i7 processor (1st generation), 12 Gb of RAM, two 2TB hard drives and the best graphics card at the time. For years it has seemed speedy as compared to all the current i5 PC's at work but now I can't believe how slow it is as compared to this new HP Pavilion with a 7th generation i7 7700T / 2.9 GHz processor. The speakers built into the new HP sound decent so I can eliminate the desktop speakers I have been using for years. It has a built in SD card reader so there goes my external card reader as well. There is also a USB-C jack located on the bottom of the screen next to the SD card reader. The touch screen is a nice addition that I never had on a desktop computer. The keyboard and mouse are wireless so that eliminates the wires off my desk which is nice. All in all, this All-in-One has a very nice clean modern look that I like very much. There are also HDMI in and HDMI out jacks so I can use the screen as a second screen for my Macintosh that's next to it and plug in a monitor to use as a second screen for the PC. There is a DVD burner and a camera for doing Skype calls with a sliding cover to block the camera so I son't have to put tape over the camera when I'm not using it (like everyone at work).
The one negative that I find about this PC is that the USB ports are centered between the back of the screen and the stand. I have the computer in a cabinet so it is difficult to reach behind it. If the USB jacks were on one side or the other like on the Dell All-in-Ones or the iMacs, it would make it easier to slightly rotate the screen in order to plug in a flash drive or other peripheral without having to turn the whole unit around. I will have to buy a USB hub to bring the ports around to the front.
Over all, I am very pleased with the look and operation of this computer and will happily use it for the next few years.

I haven't used a pair of on-ear headphones since I got the earpods with my first iPod. I've had over the ear headphones before that were heavy and dragged a heavy coiled cord behind it. When I go out for a walk, I wear my Apple AirPods but when I'm at home, after a while they get uncomfortable. These Plantronics BackBeat Fit 505's are very light, soft on the ears and since they are Bluetooth, no heavy cord. The sound quality is great and the controls are easy to reach. It say that the battery lasts 18 hours but I haven't used them that long but even if they run out of power, they should still be able to be used with the 1/8" plug/cable they included. They also included a mesh carrying pouch with a draw string. There is an app that works with the headphones but all it allows you to do is locate the headphones if you misplace them by sending a very loud tone through them. The headphone is sweat resistant in case you wear it for an extended period of time or while working out. Unlike other Bluetooth earbuds I own, the app doesn't let you shape the sound (like concert hall, studio, etc). If the app did that, I would have given it 5 stars. All in all a very nice pair of headphone for all around use.

Better than the Google Home

I own the Google Home as well as the JBL Link 300 (with Google Assistant) and wanted to replace my aging iPod docking alarm clock so why not a Google assisted clock? This Insignia Voice speaker has the Google Assistant as well as a very clear clock & temperature displayed on the front. The display's brightness can be controlled by the touch buttons on the top that only appear when your hand gets near it and the buttons also control the volume. There is a button on the back that shuts off the microphone for times when you want absolute privacy. The sound quality of the device is incredible. It's clear and robust for a device so small. I brought it to my computer club meeting and demoed it and people were amazed by it's sound quality. I would gladly bring it to the meetings every month to amplify the club's computer but the one problem it had was it wouldn't connect to the library's WiFi. As a result of not being connected, it kept announcing that it couldn't connect to the WiFi every 10 minutes or so and we couldn't find any way to tell it not to connect. Outside of that I really enjoy the sound quality and the overall design of the device. Considering it's almost half the price of the Google Home there's not reason to spend more.

I already have the regular Google Home which sounds OK but this JBL Link 300 speaker sounds incredible so my device moved to the bedroom and this speaker took it's place in my living room. It's deep rich sound reminds me of the sound you get from a Bose speaker and it really fills the room. I rarely used my old Google Home to listen to music, I only used it to answer questions and turn on my lights. With this unit, I enjoy listening to music all the time. One of the things I like about it is the microphone is very sensitive and can hear me say "OK Google" and give it my next command from across the room even when it's playing music at it's loudest setting. I've tried various genres of music from soft easy listening to hard rock and everything sounds fantastic.

Is there a jet engine in this blender?

Wow, talk about power. I've had blenders in the past that blended the ingredients but always left pits, rind, etc. at the bottom of the container. I've see Blendtec's "Will it Blend?" videos and even though I have no intention of blending my iPhone, I wanted to be able to make great smoothies. This blender made me the best smoothie I ever had. At the low speed, to start, it was as fast as my old blender's fastest speed. When I upped the speed to the maximum, I thought the blender was going to take off into space. If you want the best, smoothest drinks and more, the Designer 8 Speed Blender is definitely the way to go.

I love Garmin GPS’s. I still use my Garmin GPS in conjunction with my iPhone when traveling cross country. This device is small and cute and looked really cool. At home I have an Amazon Echo and an Echo Dot. When I saw this Garmin Speak, I thought it was it would be the best of both worlds. It’s not! I’m still trying to figure out it’s reason for being. It has to be connected by Bluetooth to my phone all the time and plugged in with a long wire around my windshield into the cigarette lighter jack. It can give directions, play music, control my lights at home and play all my Alexa skills. Guess what, so can my phone using various Alexa based apps. It was a good idea but not implemented well enough. If it got it’s info from the cloud and was rechargable like the regular Garmin GPS, it would be a great product. So is it really necessary? I really don’t think so.

Low Cost, Simple Photo/Video Suite

I’ve used Photoshop Elements many years ago and as operating systems changed over the years, I couldn’t use it any more so I started using iPhoto or various online photo editing websites. Of course, the websites are very limited in features and basically let you do simple edits, cropping, improve brightness or color and add simple filters. I didn’t want to subscribe to the Adobe Photoshop CC as I don’t do that much photo editing during the year just a few pictures after my summer vacation. Then I read about some of the new features available in the Adobe Photoshop Elements 2018 and was really intrigued. This program has the ability to open closed eyes on people by automatically substituting eyes from another photo of them or even from somebody else. Wow! You can now remove the background from a photo and substitute a different background very quickly using a tool that in the old days would have taken a lot longer to do manually. There’s all kinds of effects that can change the entire look and feel of the photo with just a few clicks. They’ve added an Auto Curate feature into the Organizer that goes through any group of photos and selects the best photo based on content, composition, lighting, etc. so you don’t have to struggle over deciding yourself.
The second program in the package is the Adobe Premiere Elements 2018. Once again, I had used Premiere a long time ago and switched to iMovie which was basic enough for simple video editing. Over the years, iMovie got very convoluted with more features that I really didn’t need. There are a lot of features in Premiere Elements that improve the quality of the video production such as clearing the haze in a scene, automatically adjusting the length of the music to fit your production, and best of all this will let you edit 4K video that I shoot with my new iPhone X.
All in all, for the one-time price, rather than a subscription, this software suite does the job for the average photographer/videographer.

Easy Setup & Great Quality

The setup was incredibly easy and fast. Plug in the base station, download the app, follow the easy directions and the cameras were displaying on my phone in minutes. The cameras have a wide field of view and crystal clear 1080p video. The alarm, if set, has a real ear piercing siren. When clicking on "Live View" on the app, the cameras come up almost immediately, unlike some other cameras I use. All in all, I would say the Arlo Pro 2 Camera System is top notch.

The battery is removable but you would have to buy some kind of charger as there is no jack on the battery to charge it directly. So you really do have to take the whole camera in and plug it in to charge it or buy a solar panel for it.

Do these plug into a power source or are they battery operated?
There is no internal battery, it comes with a USB cable and power adapter that plugs into an electric outlet. I suppose you could use an external battery pack to plug the USB cable into but then you would have to charge the battery pack constantly.

You connect your iPhone or Android phone to the remote controller, it clamps onto the top of it and holds it securely. You run the DJI Fly app and you can see the video on the phone as you are flying and all the flight information is shown overlaid on the video. Clicking on various icons let you set all the parameters for the video (or stills) as well as other settings for the drone itself.

This thing is huge. Should I safely assume this also replaces my door knob?
No, the lock has nothing to do with the door knob, it just replaces the lock/deadbolt. You still need a doorknob to open the door.

Yes the lock is reversible. When setting up the lock, it uses a method where it "hands" the lock to determine which direction the lock is facing.

No, it just replaced the door lock/deadbolt. The door knob has nothing to do with the lock

Will I be able to format this for Mac and if I already have something saved on it will reformatting it negatively affect the saved information
When you reformat it for Mac, you will lose everything on it. It will wipe it clean so be sure to copy everything form the drive to your computer, reformat it and then copy everything back. If both your PC and Mac are recent computers, I would suggest you use the ExFAT format that can be read on both computers and has no file size limit like Fat32 does.
