With an interesting cast & a great premise, I wanted to enjoy SUICIDE SQUAD much more than I did. It was dark and violent (I've only watched the extended cut) while still preserving the comic book feel of a Batman off-shoot. Affleck's cameo's as the Dark Knight helped this to form a decent-enough brick in the temple of the Justice League. I guess the hyper-modern style & storytelling aspects pushed me away, rather than hyping me up. The character intros at the start are fun in a video game way, but that style doesn't really convey the depth or grit for our rogue's gallery that is attempted later through flashbacks. Will Smith & Margot Robbie steal the show, with Joel Kinnaman coming across as a dad with a headache trying to be cool AND stern on his visitation weekend. Jared Leto's Joker looks and acts more like a counterpart to the South African hip hop duo Die Antwoord than the majorly damaged-but-dangerous chaos factor he maybe should be. At any rate, the movie has its moments, feeling a bit like a GHOSTBUSTERS riff along the way. I don't want my 2+ hours back, but I didn't love the movie. If curious, do the only reasonable thing: Watch!

WEDDING SINGER comes at the end of Sandler's swift rise to cinema stardom. His SNL time had showcased his variety of funny-man talents and then AIRHEADS, BILLY MADISON & HAPPY GILMORE cemented his big-screen presence into place. WEDDING SINGER works on allowing Sandler a wee bit more seriousness, kinda like Mike Myers in AXE MURDERER vs AUSTIN POWERS, while still letting him sing and act like a lovable goof. Borrowing vibes from the 80s rom-com, WS is broad & enjoyable entertainment! Especially when the Blu-ray is so perfectly priced!

Edgar Wright & Co. return with more ridiculous fun

After the more mainstream SCOTT PILGRIM, Wright brings back Simon Pegg & Nick Frost in what was perhaps a confusingly marketed sci-fi/action flick. The poster art combined with the title evoke an adventure movie and first third of it is a blackly humorous reunion comedy. As amusing as it was to that point, the injection of STEPFORD WIVES & INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS DNA really upped the flick while bringing it more firmly into the Wright neighborhood. Thoroughly entertaining!

With a tacked on ending copying the Nick Fury "talent scout" endings for the Avengers flicks, we know what's on the horizon. I skipped the theatrical cut in favor of the half-hour longer version, because in the trailers alone it looked like too much material was being jammed into one flick. The Ultimate Edition does the job well & enjoyably enough! Affleck's Batman isn't my fave, but I think he's better than Kilmer or Clooney. Jesse Eisenberg's Lex was a little hyper active, and certainly no Gene Hackman! But he was fun. Set aside your geek criteria & enjoy the ride!

This collection of all three Blade films stars Wesley Snipes as the title character. The vampire hunting Blade is based off the famous Marvel comic series, which first appeared in the 1970s.

My personal favorite if the trilogy is Guillermo Del Toro's middle slice of grand gothic insanity. However, the strength of the BLADE trilogy is that each offers a different sensibility to the adventures of tough-as-nails Snipes' vampire halfbreed. Recommended for fans of vampires & fun.

Riz Ahmed carries this miniseries of missing information & wrongful imprisonment quite well, with excellent support from well-known & lesser-known players. Well done!

Cap has had some of the worst filmic treatments, despite the entertainment value of some of them. While THE FIRST AVENGER is a starting point for the greatness we've grown familiar with, it's got some great talent & pursues a storyline far more entertaining than simple beefcake heroics. In this reviewers opinion, at least! Some of the visual FX fall a bit short, but the flick is solid.

Director John Hillcoat creates an atmosphere of uneasy darkness & danger in this story of crooked cops, gangsters & a heist. Great onscreen talent breathes life & blood into this ensemble piece, providing just enough light to see us through the shadow.

The snow & darkness of 30 DAYS is very reminiscent of John Carpenter's perfect THE THING, enhancing a feeling of trapped-and-stranded very appropriate for this violent vampire outing. Based on a comic book, the only shortcomings in my book are some mid-movie group strategy discussions that would play out much more fluidly on the paneled page than they do on the screen. Maybe the editing and/or performances are stiff and stale during these quieter moments, but it was really the only point at which this reviewer was pulled out of this otherwise fun and frozen-blood-caked action/horror flick.
