Great movie about political persecution in USA

This movie dramatizes the persecution that politically liberal Hollywood screenwriters endured in the 1950s. These blacklisted writers essentially lost their livelihoods because of their political beliefs. Bryan Cranston (from Breaking Bad) does a great job of portraying that suffering while still staying positive by writing under pseudonyms.

A brutal portrayal of the fur trade

This is set in the North American west of about 200 years ago, with the English, French and various tribes of Native Americans all fighting with one another for animal pelts. The worse adversaries however, as the Leonardo DiCaprio character finds out, is a bear and the winter climate. The DiCaprio character goes through a truly brutal attack with a bear and subsequent efforts to survive when left to die. His main human antagonist is the Tom Hardy character, who leaves DiCaprio to die alone. Hardy does a great job a being completely evil in an environment that promotes being completely evil. DiCaprio deserved his Oscar for his performance, but Hardy deserves a high recognition, too.

I enjoyed the first 3 seasons of Veep on DVD. So, I eagerly bought season 4. I wasn't disappointed. Julia Louis Dreyfus now is president. She's as foul mouthed, cynical, and manipulative as any actual US president I've ever heard about. Along with some expected over-the-top comedy, you also get, I fear, a somewhat realistic look at how badly politicians can behave in high political offices.

A bloody but cartoonish western

This is classic Tarantino, with lots of violence committed by physically and spiritually unattractive people. But Tarantino's violence has a cartoonish quality that makes it not much more repulsive than Bugs Bunny shooting Yosemite Sam. In spite of all the violence, the core of the movie is the dialogs that occur within one room by people who are trying to play mind games on each other and ready to shoot one another at any given moment. If you like Tarantino, this will be a good movie. If you're not a fan, this movie won't turn you into one.

How does a young mother, kidnapped as a teenager and who has spent 7 years captive in a relatively small room and given birth in that room, raise that child to be a normal child who might also help her escape? That's what this movie looks at and does that exceptionally well and realistically. Despite being a dark theme, this movie is very life affirming and positive, in addition to being suspenseful.

This television series is one of my favorites. Set in the Cold War, this series looks at what deep cover Soviet spies who are pretending to be an American family have to go through in order to operate and live in America and yet stay true to their Soviet ideology. Especially compelling is the conflict the spy parents have with their oldest US born child, who is essentially just an all American kid who discovers that her parents are anything but all American.

The specifications for the 455Ms is 10 minutes continuous run time. While I haven't watched the clock while shredding, my sense is you'll get longer than 10 minutes if there are any pauses between page feeds. Again, I haven't put a stop watch to the cool down time, but I'm guessing it may be 15 minutes or longer.
