Killer price on the "budget" version of ST:TNG

After getting pricey single season releases spread out over a few years, they decided to shove all the season into one package deal. This was $99 on release week and a STEAL at that if you ask me.
Like the original series, they did a fantastic job in restoring these episodes, going back to the original film negatives and creating new visual effects when needed - back then shows were shot on film, but then that film was transferred over to thick analogue tape then edited digitally, but in standard definition. This is also where the visual effects for this particular show were done, so there was no other option than re-doing the effects as 90's era CGI effects done in 480i uprezzed to 1080 look TERRIBLE. Thankfully, it all looks great here in blu-ray and the sound is also some top notch work, creating surround sound tracks for all the episodes. Also full of bonus material, this set is great for a Trek fan and the compression quality still kills that of HD broadcasts on cable or the HD streams on netflix of the show.

I had a project coming up that required a good lowlight lens, and with time being an issue I went ahead and grabbed this one. It not only worked out great for that particular project but I've used it several times since and it's been an amazing little piece to have in the toolbox. If you're in need of a good 50mm lens (and we should all have one) for your Nikon, you can't do much better than this lens at this price.

A different look into the Cloverfield world

Whether you liked or loathed Cloverfield, which was another polarizing jump into the found footage genre, this is worth checking out as it's a different look at this world. Comparable maybe to the way George A Romero took different looks at his Zombie apocalypse in his Night/Dawn/Day trilogy. The film is a tense, claustrophobic movie that feels very disconnected from that first film until the film takes a (some might find strange) turn for it's final act.
The video quality is fantastic and especially if you're home theater is setup for multidimensional audio (Dolby Atmos, DTS X etc) you'll want to grab this release just for it's Atmos soundtrack. Which goes from really helping pushing the claustrophobic atmosphere to pumping in some great moments during mysterious moments (fly by's etc) to being more all out in the last act. Not for everyone, but a good ride and the A/V certainly is worth it.

Excellent release of a polarizing season...

While critics mostly bagged on the "limited series" run (aside from the Wereman episode, which received unanimous praise from them) fans on the other hand found a bit more middle ground, with some loving it and finding it to be comfort food of sorts, others not so much. I myself found a couple of the episodes EXCELLENT, a couple that were okay and maybe one that I wasn't so big one. All in all, it was great fun and tough to argue with what we got since we only had 6 episodes to bring us up to date, remind newcomers and old fans what went on before, AND give us new stuff.
The blu-ray looks and sounds FANTASTIC, the compression quality on the bluray looks LOADS better than the original HD broadcasts on Fox. Also, it's loaded with some really nice bonus material including interviews, deleted scenes, episode commentaries and more goodies. If you're a fan of the show, fan of this miniseries run or just looking to complete your X-Files collection, it's a must buy.

Great release of maybe DeNiro's most FUN film...

Obviously De Niro has made "better" or "more respected" films, but it's hard to think of a film of his that's just more plain fun than Midnight Run. He's obviously having a ball, and his chemistry with Charles Grodin is off the charts. If you haven't seen it, I envy you for the fun ride you're about to partake.
This Shout special edition is, to date, the best and most complete release and is definitely a must buy for any fans of the film. The transfer on the video side is very solid, not great, but certainly very good. The bonus material is also loaded, though the "interview" with De Niro is little more than just a few comments. However the interviews with others, including Grodin, are much longer and more in-depth.

Extra Batteries are a Must

GoPro's have smaller sizes so they can't hold batteries that hold TOO long of a charge, so it's a must of you to grab some extra batteries, especially if you plan on doing any kind of longer term shooting. The battery times are decent, but as I said, extras are a must. They're reliable and continue to hold great charges. I have several for each GoPro and they're all great.

GoPro's can't exactly hold the biggest battery packs, so it's good to have extras. They do okay but when you're doing some long term shooting they're a must. I've owned 4 of these for the Hero3 and they're all reliable, and continue to give a really solid charge. The only one I've lost is one I put in a pocket after it was used and unfortunately through it in the washer. The GoPro may have a waterproof case, but the batteries don't ;)

I now have two of these suction cups for GoPro's and they're reliable, versatile options for using with your action cams. I've had some clients need to use them in cars (doing carpool karaoke type things; general in car footage) as well as have clients hiring me to use them on motorcycles going 25-75MPH out on open roads, I've also used them on various roller coasters, including ones that go over 80MPH. Besides these higher speed endeavors, these things can sit on the suction cup rather well. Big upgrade with a few caveats

I owned a Hero2 and a Hero3+ prior to picking up the Hero4. It's a great upgrade in a number of ways - resolution and compression quality, general settings, having the bluetooth in addition to wifi etc. One of the big upgrades was being able to do 4K at various frame rates including 24, 30 and 60 (whereas the 3+ had 4K at 15fps). Unfortunately I did learn that the camera, when running in 4K can be overheat and shutdown, especially if there isn't a good amount of airflow and the temperatures are hot.
Overall, as long as you know this and know ways to overcome it, it's a great upgrade from the previous GoPro cameras.
