The film is a bit dated - the presentation is not.

If you were around in summer 1996, you know what a big deal ID4 was when it came out - a pop culture phenomenon if there ever was one during the summer's of the 1990's. However, the film IS admittedly a bit dated now, particularly in the humor department, but it's still a fun ride.
Anyone with an older release wondering if it's worth it, well YES it is. The 4K remaster looks miles above the old in both regular blu and UHD. Of Note: I've hear some people complain about the compression artifacts on the UHD disc, but your mileage may vary dependent on your system.
That audio on the regular blu sounds as good as ever, but the UHD wins this round BIG TIME with a DTS X multidimensional remix. If you're a home theater buff, like me, already equipped for this, you're in for a treat. Truly immersive and absolutely destroys what was already a great 5.1 mix on the older releases. The attacks, explosions, and general ambience of sets and interiors come to life in a whole new way. Worth it for the upgrade on that alone!

The best action film in years, greatly presented.

The film isn't for everyone (none is) but i found it to be my favorite all out action film since probably T2. It doesn't really matter if you go regular blu-ray or UHD, you're in for a visual and auditory treat. Both discs feature Atmos mixes that will just murder your home system if you're equipped for it. From the opening credits as various voices and sound elements build and move all around you, to when Miss Kitty shotgun blasts the roof and you look up to make sure you don't have a hole there, it impresses. Obviously all he car carnage is reference material.
I probably honestly prefer the regular blu on a plasma, but the 4K HDR experience is also a very solid once, despite it being an uprez. no matter, you're set for a film that LOOKS and SOUNDS great.

Better representation of an imperfect film.

I think critics were a little harsh on BvS, the fact that a film like Iron Man 2 or 3 could receive the rotten tomatoes scores they did but it was butchered seems somewhat unfair. However the fact that SO much was cut out of the film did hamper the overall presentation of the story and plot points. The directors cut doesn't save the movie in a sense that it's suddenly some unheralded masterpiece, but it does make it a much more enjoyable superhero romp through the darkness.
Both the regular Blu (OF NOTE: the Regular Blu in the UHD/Blu combo pack is JUST the theatrical cut, don't ask me why!) and the Extended UHD disc feature amazingly nuanced Dolby Atmos mixes. If you're a home theater buff like myself already equipped for Atmos, you're in for a treat! The climactic sequences, in particular when (SPOILER) Doomsday erupts a giant bust of energy (END SPOILER) warrants purchase alone.
The UHD video quality is overall VERY good but just a hint of a mixed bag. There was A LOT of varying sources for the footage - ranging from Digital high res to 65mm and down - and so the film can have some AMAZING looking sequences, and some that may come across a bit softer. All in all the film, which indeed is a intensely grainy and gritty visual experience, looks fantastic in 4K and UHD.

Worthwhile upgrade for fans of the film...

Not everyone loved Man of Steel...myself included. It has it's moments and sequences I'm a fan of, but ultimately the last act kind of lost it for me as it was another "lets destroy half a major city" superhero climax, and yes I'm one who was a little peeved Superman didn't show as much consciousness and saving people around him. Compare to Superman 2 when Zod figures out Supes true weakness is his love for humans, and the city is being destroyed while Supes tries to fight them and save people at the same time.
Anyhow, my qualms aside, it can be a fun film to experience for a home theater buff. The 7.1 mix was already fantastic but on this UHD the Atmos mix takes it into the stratosphere. Even that climactic sequence I already mentioned was more watchable with how amazing everything surrounds you. The video, despite it's myriad of higher resolution sources, was edited and mastered at 2K and unfortunately this is an uprez 4K. IT was a grainy film to begin with, and now it's even more apparent in that regard. It's not all bad though, there are some real kicks to resolution and detail and the HDR is a good example of how to utilize that grading system.

Worthwhile upgrade

Ultimately the Martian extended cut isn't that varyingly different or extended from the theatrical cut. BUT if you liked that film and are at all a home theater buff, this one is all the better as the UHD extended cut features a wonderful upgrade in the audio department with a Dolby Atmos mix. For those of us already equipped for such an experience, it's definitely a treat, right from the get go as the storm hits. It definitely is an atmospheric experience even for scenes simply in the interior of the Hab.
While the film was shot mostly in 5K it was edited and mastered in a 2K environment. However, there are elements for this release that went back to higher resolution when possible - it's a confusing thing but you can ready about it from the filmmakers online. Ultimately it's a really good looking version - whether shots are uprezzed or not - that also takes HDR and uses it to it's best advantages for adding some pop and nuance without overdoing it.

Polarizing Release of a Polarizing Film
on September 23, 2016
Posted by: HudsonHawk
Verified Purchase:Yes
Watchmen was quite the polarizing film when it came out - fans of the comic either finding it too close or too far away from the source material. It is a little slow (even more so in the extended editions) but it certainly drops you into that world.
This release includes a regular blu-ray of the directors cut, and then the UHD is the even longer ultimate cut. The UHD is a 2K uprez (do to the film being edited and mastered at 2K, despite the film sources). Between the 2K uprez and the rather strange HDR grading, as well as the fact that you're not getting an Atmos upgrade like the Man of Steel UHD, it's kind of a hit or miss release. Super fans, pick it up, regular fans are probably okay to stick with the already great looking and sounding blu disc.
Of Note: while the box lists DTS Master Audio (and the regular bluray is that), the UHD is a Dolby True HD track. No real big deal as both are lossless codecs once bit streamed out, but just letting people know.

Great special edition of a cult classic!

Manhunter certainly took it's time in getting it's recognition, never getting the immediate praise and adoration the next Hannibal film (Silence of the Lambs) did, but in the decades since it's finally gotten credit as a both a favorite in Michael Mann's crime film filmography as well as even becoming some peoples favorite Hannibal film.
So in honor of that, Shout Factory has gone pretty much all out in giving the film it's due in special edition form. The era of studios releasing great collectors sets for just about any well regarded film has died out since it's 2001-2006ish heyday, but thankfully boutique labels like Shout come through. If you're a fan of this film, definitely pick this up as it's mix of interviews, making of's and the directors cut of the film (some extra footage had to be sourced from SD materials unfortunately for the directors cut) in addition to the theatrical it's a set for you.

A Great SW game experience for kids AND adults
on February 24, 2016

Having been in college when the original Battlefront was released during the PS2/Xbox generation, and having spent far too many hours with it during those days, I was truly excited about the new release, but hesitant knowing EA's history. Unfortunately my hesitations were well founded and what we got was, while a beautiful looking game, a clone of the Call of Duty/Battlefield type games that offer limited replayability and little to no strategy.
I decided to hop back into Infinity (I own the 1.0 for the Wii U and enjoyed it for what it was) and am glad I did. While the graphics can be cartoony (on par with what you see in the Clone Wars and Rebels CGI shows) and it IS built to be playable to kids, so you'll spend time chasing down baby banthas and helping younglings, that aside, it's a truly great SW game experience. Building up each characters unique strengths and abilities, doing force combos, running around Coruscant and Endor, going toe to toe with Darth Maul, hunting down Tusken Raiders - it feels like you're playing in a Star Wars universe. I think both kids and adults can really enjoy this experience.
The big bundle is worth it, especially if you catch it on one of BB's sales, as both the prequel and OT games offer a lot of unique fun and you get Boba Fett, which no one will complain about!

Excellent release of often forgotten Hitch film.

Wrong Man often gets lost in the shuffle when talking about Hitchcock's legendary 1950's output. It'd be hard for it not to, when he was putting out North by Northwest, Vertigo, Rear Window, To Catch a Thief, his TV show and more during those same years. But it's still a solid film, and the most unique of his "wrong man caught up in a bad situation" type films. This blu-ray offers a stunning transfer of the existing audio and visual elements, and any fan of the film or Hitch's work shouldn't hesitate in upgrading.
