Powerful Blender!

Disclaimer: I don't have a ton of experience with blenders. I've used the smaller, capsule-shaped versions that had little or no power. That is not the case with this Blendtec - Designer Series blender. This Blender blew through ice cubes and large frozen strawberries without a problem.
I couldn't wait to make my favorite smoothie with this blender: kale, spinach, organic apple juice, blueberries and strawberries (and a few other ingredients)
I used strawberries that have been in my freezer for some time, and were rock hard. The strawberries put up a good fight, but it was a short one; they were obliterated in seconds. As an added bonus, those irritating blueberry seeds weren't a problem either. After I've drained the bottom of my glass, I'm usually greeted with several blueberry seeds. Not any more, they were pulverized, too.

The setup was simple and easy, and cleaning was just as simple: A cup of water, a drop of dish detergent, a five second pulse, and you're done.
This thing is fantastic. I absolutely recommend this product. My old blender is going in my next garage sale for a buck!
Having said all that, I'm off to the market for more kale and spinach.

Blown away by the sound quality!

First off, I consider myself a bit of a headphone snob. I own several sets of headphones; I own in-ear, around the ear, and over the ear phones. I have a small fortune invested in finding the set of headphones that will make me stop searching for the 'perfect' set of phones. And trust me when I tell you, more expensive does not translate to better sound quality.
When I received the Plantronics Backbeat FIT 305 headphones, I didn't expect much because I'm not particularly a fan of in-ear headphones. I'm a big guy with a big head who has small ear canals, and most in-ear headphones tend to bother me after a while.
I honestly wasn't crazy about the sound quality of these headphones out of the box, until I changed the enclosed eartips to the smaller size, then...WOW!
I listen primarily to jazz, and any set of headphones worthy of being manufactured should be able to handle those high and mid-range tones without a problem. Also, some headphones do fairly well with low tones and aren't great at reproducing highs. The Backbeat headphones blew me away with their ability to handle the deep bass response as well as mid-range and high tones. I put them through their paces, folks; I listened extensively to jazz, classical, rock and R&B, and I was very impressed with the Backbeat's ability to handle everything I threw at it. I constantly changed the EQ settings on my MP3 device to see what these phones could manage, and they performed well on every EQ setting. But the real litmus test came when I asked my son for some of his hip-hop and rap music (you guys owe me HUGE!). The Backbeat FIT 305 came though like the Wu (my son told me to use that line. I have no idea what it means...). The Backbeat handled the bass response beautifully!
The Plantronics Backbeat FIT 305 is a fantastic product that I highly recommend. They are comfortable to wear for extended periods, and the sound quality is very impressive. I honestly had pedestrian expectations about this product, and was pleasantly surprised. I couldn't find anything about them that I didn't like. They paired effortlessly; I was up and running in seconds.
These headphones are my new go to headphones.

I'll begin this review of the Hoover Rogue 970 with the Hoover Home app, which seems to be the "brains" to this device. While the vacuum cleaner will operate independently of the app, Hoover seems to be hanging their hats on the added versatility of the Rogue when the app is incorporated with this device.
When I went to the App Store to download the app designed to work with the Rogue 970, I was repeatedly rebuffed with the message "No results for Hoover Home app". Umm, okay...
I tried several times to find the app, to no avail. I looked on the App Store for the iOS version and the Play Store for the Android version; nada! Finally, I went to the Hoover website, and after searching fruitlessly to find any information to obtain this app, I clicked on the FAQ, which eventually lead me to a link to download the app from the App Store. Once I got the Hoover Home app up and running on my iPad, I was easily able to connect the device to my Amazon Echo Show, which allows me to verbally communicate with the Rogue. (What have we become, when you can do your housework by sitting on your sofa watching television, and telling a device to perform one of your chores for you? ...but I digress).
I tried several times to find the app, to no avail. I looked on the App Store for the iOS version and the Play Store for the Android version; nada! Once I got everything set up, I had the Rogue 970 start its Recon Mode, which allows the Rogue to map the rooms in your home. After completing the recon, I had the Rogue run it's first cleaning session. I have hardwood floors in my home, with area rugs, and the Rogue impressively maneuvered between the two surfaces with no problem (It should be noted that thin, light rugs, or runners will cause a minor problem, as they'll get folded over or pushed around by the vacuum cleaner). Also, The Rogue completely missed certain areas of the floor while cleaning; even after I ran the Recon Mode twice.
Watching this device navigate its way around your residence is entertainingly novel; it will definitely impress your friends. It's kind of like having a pet in your house that responds appropriately to voice commands. However, I don't believe this device has tremendous cleaning power. After the Rogue finished vacuuming one of my rugs, I went over that same rug with my regular vacuum cleaner, and picked up a 'significant' amount of dust. This was after the Rogue had already gone over it TWICE. Given this revelation, it's my opinion that the Rogue is better suited for hardwood, or bare floors. Based on my experience with this device, it does not perform deep cleaning on rugs or carpeting. If all you need vacuumed up are crumbs, or other small particles, this device will be adequate for you (moreso for novelty's sake). If you want embedded dust or dirt removed from your soft floor coverings, the Rogue 970 is not for you. You'll have to get off your sofa and do it yourself.

I've had this Dyson on my radar for over a year waiting for it to go on sale! When the store circular listed it for a huge discount, I practically ran to the store in my pajamas, and helped the store manager turn the key to open the store so I wouldn't miss out on getting one. (Any BB store employees find a brown slipper over near small appliances?)
I've wanted this Dyson for so long, but I bought another brand and kicked myself every time I used it.
Cordless is absolutely the way to go! It's so powerful and so convenient, I vacuum whether it's needed or not. I still find myself watching for the cord when I vacuum. Any item that's used throughout your entire house should be cordless anyway. When I used the attachment to vacuum the furniture, I was amazed at the amount of dust it picked up, no wonder I'm always sneezing.
If you want a Dyson, get a Dyson! Don't settle for a lesser brand. I certainly noticed the difference.

Better than Black Ops 3, but...

First off, I'm not the typical gamer, I'm a middle aged retiree who was talked into buying a PS4 by my son after I retired to "maintain my hand-eye coordination". My son could sell corn to a farmer...
I don't do the multiplayer thing, I just play the campaigns. I started playing Call of Duty on his PS3. I played Black Ops 1 and 2, and the Modern Warfare series. Those were outstanding games, I finished all of them, and replayed them several times. I even have a few other Baby Boomers playing COD with me.
Then Black Ops III came out last year. Robots? Zombies? Super Soldiers? What?? I thought most of the online buzz was people weren't crazy about the futuristic direction the series was taking.

When COD: Infinite Warfare was released, it was the first COD I didn't buy the same day it hit the stores. In fact, If Best Buy didn't have such a great black Friday price on it, I wouldn't have gotten it. If I wanted to fight zombies, I'd play the zombie mode! Renegade Zombie Robots? Stop it, Activision!
Although this latest iteration of COD was better than BO III (the only COD I never finished, I just couldn't take it anymore), it was nowhere near as good as past releases; but at least I chose to finish this one. I have no idea how the multiplayer is on this game, so I can't offer any commentary.
If the next version is futuristic, I'll keep my money in my oversized, George Costanza wallet. But I'm sure Activision won't care since I don't reside within their target demographic.

It's great if your fridge doesn't have an icemaker

When I bought this unit, I'll admit I was drawn into the "26 pounds of ice per day" declaration. I'm a retiree who goes to the local park every day to watch the pickup basketball games, and I fill up my cooler with ice and bottled water for the players on hot days. I was buying bags of ice from the market on the way to the park, which cost me $10-$12 per week. So when I saw this unit on sale, I surmised that it would pay for itself in a few months.
Well, it appears this ice maker needs to be babysat in order to produce the promised yield. Given the size of this thing (the size of a carryon bag!) one would think that it was capable of holding quite a bit of ice; not so. After producing a medium sized mixing bowl amount of ice, it needed to be emptied before it would generate any more ice. So, in order to fill even a small cooler's worth of ice, you have to wait for the bucket to fill with ice, empty the bucket, bag the ice, store it in the freezer, add more water to the unit, repeat. It's less aggravating and much faster to just grab a bag from the store.
I'm not saying this product is not without merit, I'm just saying if you regularly want large amounts of ice, this may not be the unit for you. If you are having a get together and require a steady flow of cubes for the event, this thing is right up your alley. But given it's very large size, it's not something you'll leave on your counter when not being used, so check your cabinet space. However, if you're the type of person who'll even consider buying something as unidimensional as this, you probably already have your cupboards (and closets, basements, attics...) filled with seldom used items: toaster ovens, waffle irons, Foreman grills, deep fryers, rice cookers, bread makers, cappuccino machines(?!), you get the point...(I'm not just a member, I'm the president!).
It's a cool item (yeah, I saw the pun as I wrote it), and it works wonderfully, so I gave it four stars, but given its meager output and its need for constant attention to get large amounts of ice, and because it'll be the third largest appliance in your kitchen, I deducted a point.

Gives Roku a run for its money, almost...

I have the previous iteration of the Amazon Fire Stick and it was woefully inferior to the current generation Roku Stick in terms of speed and performance. This Fire Stick is much faster than its predecessor. Between the quad core processor and its ability to fully utilize AC rated modems, its sooo much faster than the old AFS. If you experienced buffering or performance problems, this upgraded stick is worth the money.
