Dyson V8: The Undisputed Handheld Vacuum CHAMPION!

REFERENCE FOR EVALUATION:
The Dyson V8 Animal Cord-free Vacuum wields higher suction power than some plug-in upright vacuums: 115AW (Air Watts, the measurement of suction power). I own 4) of the Dyson previous top handheld model, the V6 Absolute (100AW) & 3) Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal+Allergy upright vacuums (180AW). I picked up a V8 Animal to replace one of the older V6 Absolute vacuums (we are a multi-cat household & have a very messy bird).
COMPARING THE V8 ANIMAL TO THE V6:
1- The V8 Animal has a larger 0.14 gallon Dust / Dirt Bin than the 0.11 gallon bin on the V6 - a very welcome improvement!
2- The V8 is much quieter & has a "mellow" sound, compared with the older noisy / "raspy" sounding V6 (the V6 sound didn't bother me until I heard the V8 - WOW!! The sound is reduced approximately 50%).
3- The V8 trigger is a new soft touch design - it is easier & is super smooth - light years ahead of the V6 trigger.
4- The release button on the V8 tools is an amazing soft push with a positive click, now located on the tool end; on V6 & earlier models, the silver release buttons were very stiff & difficult to lock in positively. They were on the vacuum end (opposite of the V8). So tools are NOT interchangeable between the V8 & the V6 or older model.
5- The V8 beater bar is MUCH more powerful than the V6! The nameplate on the pick-up tool specifies a 50 Watt Beater Bar Motor vs. a 20 Watt Beater Bar Motor on the beater bar on the V6!
6- Dumping the bin is radically different on the V8, too. Simply lift the red finger pull on top of the machine & the entire bin raises & the bottom opens up! You never touch the dirt. The older V6 required you to touch the dirt bin. Great sanitary improvement. Dyson calls it a "hygienic dirt ejector".
7- The V8 has 3) blue LED's that indicate battery & charging status, unlike the single LED on the V6.
8- Despite the slightly heavier 5.75 pound weight over the 5 pound V6, both vacuums feel perfectly balanced & comfortable handling at any angle.
9- The V8 includes a greatly improved battery & provides a 40 minute run time. This is a tremendous advantage over the 20 minute runtime of the V6! This longer battery life is even more amazing, considering the even more powerful motor: V8 motor runs at 425 Watts, compared to the V6, which runs at 350 Watts.
10- The wall mounting bracket is necessarily slightly wider to accommodate the slightly larger V8, compared with the smaller V6. Thankfully, the mounting centers for the 2) holes remains 5" OC, co I simply unscrewed the V6 wall bracket & screwed the new V8 wall mounting bracket into the same holes in my wall.

FUTURE DESIGN IDEAS:
So, what could Dyson change to make the V8 even better? That is a tough question.
Only one suggestion: Make the fixed battery pack removable so you could purchase & keep a spare battery pack charged. You could charge each pack, one at a time in the vacuum handle, or Dyson could add a snap-in compartment on the wall bracket that would allow charging both the V8 & the spare battery pack simultaneously... This may sound extreme, considering the V8 features a 40 minute run time, but I operate it on Maximum all of the time. Using motorized power heads, expect 7-8 minutes of operation in Maximum mode.
Only one suggestion: Make the fixed battery pack removable so you could purchase & keep a spare battery pack charged. PURCHASING RECOMMENDATIONS:
If you have any hard floors, such as hardwood / ceramic time / vinyl, you will be better served buying the Dyson V8 Absolute, as it also includes the soft roller head designed for hard surfaces. Both V8's include the powerful beater bar tool for carpeting, a Mini Motorized Tool - handy for stairs. Both include a dusting brush - great for computer keyboards & a narrow crevice tool. Dyson sells the optional soft roller head for $111.99 - I just ordered one to add to my V8 Animal. It is not listed yet - you have to order it through chat.
CONCLUSION:
Dyson continues to perfect an already excellent product! Owning 4) impressive V6 vacuums, I did not see how they could improve that design... until now.
The V8 changes are not just evolutionary - they are REVOLUTIONARY!! 2X battery life, more suction, more motor power, more beater bar power, soft trigger, softer & more positive tool release buttons, battery / charge indicator, with half the noise! The Dyson V8 is the Undisputed Handheld Vacuum CHAMPION!

AudioQuest 90 degree HDMI Adaptors eliminate the cable sticking out of the side of an HDTV by redirecting it to a right angle. Just be aware there are 2 models: Narrow and Wide. Study your TV or device to see which you need. I use 2 or 3 of these adaptors end to end to point the cable 180 or 270 degrees from the direction it started - and a clean look to the side & behind the TV!

Google Home offers a more in depth internet research capability, as you would expect, with the Google Search Engine Access. Here is a summary of Pro's & Con's that I observed:
Google Home Pro's:
1- In depth internet search
2- Accessory color scheme available to customize appearance
3- Closest Google Home answers, unlike Amazon Echo, where ALL devices answer that hear you from various rooms
4- Cost advantage. Google Home has a lower price point than Amazon Echo. Cannot compare with Amazon Dot, as it does not have the powerful internal amp & speakers
5- Google Home is more interactive; after answering a question, if you ask a related question, Google Home can continue as though in a conversation
6- Google Account integration is a distinct advantage

The Apple AirPods are brilliantly engineered & are unique in so many ways. Audio quality is excellent; tap on the AirPod to access Siri; no wires; insert either or both & you are connected accordingly. Self charge in the case with internal Li-Ion battery; noise cancellation works great!
I can only identify one negative: The strong magnet built in the case that retains the 2) AirPods is so strong, it is very difficult for an individual with large fingers & thumb to grasp the super slick & curved AirPods to remove them! They keep sliding away from your fingers, occasionally lifting up 1/2 inch out of the case, only to be sucked back into the case by the over zealous magnet. There needs to be a release button that would push the AirPods away from the magnet about 1/4". This would make it much easier to lift them out of the case.

This Panasonic is the Reference Standard 4K Ultra Hd Video Blu-Ray Player of 2017. I bought the lower cost & highly advertised S****** 4K Blu-Ray on Black Friday, not knowing this Panasonic player existed. I found this Panasonic on Bestbuy.com, so I ordered it & returned the lower cost model.
This player weighs about 4 times a much as the other & is clearly designed as a high end machine. The remote is large with easy to read buttons. The front panel display is clear. It gets down to business very quickly; loads & starts the Blu-Ray or DVD in a fraction of the time as it's competition.
Streaming is fantastic & smooth! Amazon Prime works extremely well, is easy to control; pause stops / starts play instantly. Streaming is very similar to the built-in streaming on the latest E Series ULED LG TV's - which is the best I have ever experienced.
Colors & ultra black levels are amazing!!

Solid Fit - Attractive Design - Finicky Ear Pieces

These sharp looking JBL headphones are designed for active users. They are engineered to stay on your ears during the most aggressive workouts but have very finicky ear pieces, known as: "enhancements", that are frustrating to set up.
Here is a summary of 10) Pro's & Con's:
PRO'S
1- Twistlock design retains headphones securely. Compared with the Apple AirPods, these headphones will not fall off your head during physical exercise & running, even in rain & / or sweating conditions. - Best Feature!
2- Very attractive appearance & design.
3- Good 12" length for connecting cord - if anything, it could be 1/2" longer.
4- Beautiful packaging with magnetic closure.
5- JBL name & reputation.
6- Classy water resistant carry pouch with silicon texture exterior.
7- Heart rate monitor works reliably, but I always wear an Apple Watch Generation 2, so I could have skipped that feature & saved $50.
8- Solid, easy to connect Bluetooth provides 25' range from source.
9- Superior sound isolation - those around you do not hear bits or pieces of your music.

2- Disappointing sound quality, totally dependent upon proper seal with the ear. Primarily high frequencies heard and virtually no bass with Size 7 enhancers. After struggling to try Size 6 in order to possibly hear more bass, I decided to put up with the lack of bass, rather than fiddle any longer & probably tear the enhancers.
3- Compared with Apple AirPods, which do not require fiddling to achieve great sound, these JBL's do require considerable fiddling to get good sound with bass frequencies - and the AirPods sound better.
4- Compared with Apple AirPods, which insert in your ear & automatically connect via Bluetooth, these JBL's require manual pressing & holding the button to connect or disconnect Bluetooth.
5- I feel for $199, the free One year membership to MapMyRun app should be free Lifetime membership.
6- Printed documentation has tiny print, with barely legible font.
7- Compared with the dual microphone Apple AirPods, which serve as noise cancellation, these JBL's pick up the noise around you & make it difficult for the person on the other end to hear & to understand you. I peal them off my ears and take the calls with my iPhone now, so each of us can hear one another. Useless for phone calls except in a very quiet setting.

Just looking at the box, you expect a premium, esoteric product... & Linksys delivers that & more in spades! The shapely Nodes are beautiful & blend with any decorating style.
Simple set-up via the Linksys iOS or Android App. Within minutes, you are ready to go online.
As shown in attached photo, I have 90 wireless devices utilized over 5,000 sq feet / 3 floors: this is a challenging application for high speed Wi-Fi that includes: connected major appliances; BAS ceiling fans & Haiku Wi-Fi connected lights; Wi-Fi Thermostats; Netatmo Wi-Fi Weather Station; 65 Hue Lights; Connected exterior door locks; Wink Wi-Fi connected devices; connected iDevices, Nest & Arlo cameras; iPads; iPhones & computers. Velop delivers the fastest Wi-Fi speed I have ever experienced and does so consistently! The attached screen capture shows 349 Mbps Download / 23 Mbps Upload. These are WIRELESS speeds!! I pay for 300 Mbps Download / 30 Mbps Upload & our internet service provider generally delivers 300 - 360 Download & 22 - 32 Upload.
Velop is the only Wi-Fi System I have found to date that actually delivers this sustainable speed and does not randomly disconnect the many devices.
High power Wi-Fi requires a high current source. Each of the 3) square white power supplies produce 12 Volt, 2 Amp output! 24VA (Volt Amps) is the highest output of any router I have tested. Better yet, the cable that plugs into each Velop is perfectly angled at the plug so the wire routs neatly through the cable management feature at the base. Brilliant design!

CON's:
1- IP Address range cannot be changed from: 192.***. My 2) existing Apple Time Capsule / Routers had IP addresses of 10.***, but they can be set to different ranges. A different IP Address range requires individually resetting a few devices that previously connected to the other range. For example, each Nixplay connected frame had to manually "Forget" the old Wi-Fi name of the previous SSID, then set up the same name with Velop, even though the Wi-Fi name and password are the same. On 13) Apple Airport Express devices, I had to power down each device to reset it from 10.*** to 192.***
2- IPv6 is not supported as of product release. This is surprising, as my three year old Apple Time Capsule / Router supported IPv6.
3- The first unit set up in under 10 minutes; however the remaining two hubs froze at the same exact place midway every time during set-up. After 6 failed attempts, I held each Node horizontally and kept my hand around it. Surprisingly, this procedure resulted in a virtually immediate set-up! Then I set each Node vertically & it continued to work great.
4- Only one Node can connect to the internet via ethernet. The other Nodes connect to the first Node via wireless mesh connection. I would prefer the option of connecting each Node to a wired ethernet connection. Linksys Technical Support indicated this may be added later as a software update. This would prove beneficial because the Nodes must be located fairly close together (my tests showed less than 40 feet apart at most).

CONCLUSION: My search for the "Ideal" Whole Home Wi-Fi System that consistently delivers 300 Mbps over 5,000 square feet with 90 devices ends here!! I am THRILLED with Velop & give it my highest recommendation!! It has proven to be the BEST ROUTER available for 2017!

How do you charge the cameras?
An included magnetic cord with USB is used to charge the battery. Simply place it on the bottom of the Ultra Camera & it sticks & electrically connects to the camera. You have the option of keeping power on the battery during use, if a wall outlet is handy.

I have an Eero wireless router with 3 satellite ports. It works well in my 2 story home. Do the cameras need to be 50 to 100 ft from the base or from the Eero satellite port?
The cameras must directly interact with the Base. The "Smart" features are actually in the Base. I am finding much greater distance than the quoted distance of the Ultra camera rom the Base. The base plugs into the router via Ethernet, so the Wireless Router distance to the camera does not matter.

How long do batteries last on the cameras
The answer totally depends on the amount of motion the camera sees. In a quiet environment, I saw nearly 2 months of battery life. In a high motion environment, I had to charge it about once / week. By motion, I mean a dog or a person alerting the camera to motion.

YES! I have 5) Arlo Pro 2 Cameras & they work beautifully with the new Smart Base that is included with the new Arlo Ultra. Yours will work beautifully!
However, you cannot pair the new Ultra Camera with the old base you used with your Arlo Pro 2 Cameras. You will no longer need or would want to use that old base. This new one is far superior.

The rebate would be through your utility company. I would recommend calling your local utility company in Cape Cod & ask them to send you the rebate form.

Why it is not able to connect to my laptop? It works well with the iphone.
The headphones may be automatically connecting to your iPhone, retaining that connection, and if so, cannot connect to your laptop if it is nearby, as Bluetooth can connect to only one source at a time.
Power your iPhone off as a test, or, if you prefer, simply swipe up the screen from the bottom & select Bluetooth OFF.
Then go to settings on your laptop - Bluetooth - make visible. Press & hold the headphone power button on. Look for the headphones on your laptop Bluetooth list. It should be there now. Click on the WH-CH700N.
Power your iPhone back on, or restore Bluetooth, which you previously turned off.
Power your iPhone off as a test, or, if you prefer, simply swipe up the screen from the bottom & select Bluetooth OFF.
Then go to settings on your laptop - Bluetooth - make visible. Press & hold the headphone power button on. Look for the headphones on your laptop Bluetooth list. It should be there now. Click on the WH-CH700N.

Can you activate Google Assistant with the mic like you can Siri? I didn't see it listed as a feature.

You can activate an assistant with the WH-CH700N the same as you can with the iOS Home button.
If you can activate Google Assistant by pressing the Home Button & speaking into the phone, then you can activate Google Assistant with the WH-CH700N.
However, if you press the Home Button & it only brings up Siri, that is the same result to expect from WH-CH700N.
Go to Settings - Accessibility - Home Button - Voice Control. If you can get Google Assistant to open, then the answer to your question is YES.
