You could say that this album divided Paradise Lost's fan-base, but if you really think about it, they've been experimenting with their sound since Icon when they began moving away from their death metal sound. Anyway, the remaster is worth getting. Thank you Nuclear Blast for giving us quality music.

Like The Gathering and First Strike Still Deadly, Demonic was reissued by Testament's current label Nuclear Blast and features new killer artwork. As for the album itself: if you've never listened to Demonic before, it is a different sounding record from Testament. After their refusal to further commercialize their sound after The Ritual with Low (mixing thrash metal with death metal), they were dropped by their label. This could be seen as something to fuel the anger clearly evident in their sound on Demonic, which also sees them further experimenting with death metal. If you're open-minded, I think you'll enjoy it. I recommend it.

If you bought the Prosthetic reissue, buy the Nuclear Blast reissue anyway. The remastering on the Prosthetic version was a letdown despite some nuances not heard before and the inclusion of the Hammer Of The Gods bonus track from the Japanese import. Here, not only do we get the bonus track again and killer new artwork, but newly remastered audio by the original engineer Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Machine Head, Exodus, Overkill), and it is very much an improvement over the previous remaster. Highly recommended!

Say what you want about bands that re-record their classic songs. Sometimes it's good, other times why are they bothering? Testament really nailed it the first time with their first two albums, so why did they pick a handful of songs from them to re-record? Supposedly, they couldn't get the rights to have those albums remastered. Enough reading, just buy this already.
