I’ve tried other noise-cancelling headphones and earbuds, but they pale in comparison to Sony’s new 1000x Over-the-ear Wireless Hi-res Headphones. Built for modern use, they work wirelessly with your Apple or Android phone -- pairing quickly, via Bluetooth with voice prompts.
You can use them on a plane with the included cable and airplane adapter plug. The noise cancelling is top notch, but it’s the straight-forward interface that makes these headphones shine. The right ear cup is touch sensitive, much like a trackpad. Slide your finger up or down for volume, back or forward for previous or next song. Tap the center to pause. If you get a phone call, double tap to answer; again to hang up.
My favorite feature is the “instant off” noise cancelling. Simply cup your hand over the right ear cup to hear someone talking to you. No need to stop your music or remove the headphones! If you’re waiting for an announcement for a plane or train, you can adjust the ambient sound to “hear” voice, while still listening to music.
Charging these headphones is done with a USB cable to the lithium ion battery. A four hour charge lasts for 20 hours of music (with noise cancelling on) — longer with it off. You can get six hours of use from a one hour charge. I was surprised to find you cannot change the battery yourself. I have to wonder about its life and replacement cost.
Included with the headphones is a nice carrying case, USB charging cable, plane plug adapter, and gold-plated stereo mini plug.

Light, works great, fast and easy to use

Ok, two revelations: 1) I’m a guy. 2) I hate to clean. So, I thought the Bissell Crosswave would help me out with the second one. It vacuums and washes at the same time. It has a clean water tank, where you also add cleaning solution — Wood floor and “multi surface” versions included. “Multi Surface” includes wood, carpet, and tile — and another tank to collect the dirty solution that it sucks up.
After unpacking the Crosswave, I was struck by two things: It was light for all its features and it felt very well made. As I assembled it (which literally involved pushing the handle onto the body), I was impressed that it seemed very well designed — all the buttons, latches, and parts seemed thought out to be easy to use.
When I started reading the documentation, all that changed! I thought, “too much work!” Too much set up, too many rules, too much cleanup. I could’ve used the vacuum and a bucket and mop with less effort. But I was wrong! Here’s why.
It’s simple to fill with water and cleaning solution. Using it was *almost* fun. It cleaned my kitchen floor, which is porcelain tile, so much faster and with so much less work than a bucket and mop. It swivels easily to get into corners and has a good long cord. (One complaint here: the cord is attached to the unit at the bottom, rather than the top and I found this to be annoying to hold the cord out of the way while sweeping.)
You can fill the Clean Water Tank partially or fully for small or big jobs. Since I was trying this out for the first time, I went with the small fill. I was able to clean my whole kitchen floor as well as my living room and dining room! I’m sure I could have done most of the house with a complete filling. Note: Much of my work was tile and wood floor, plus one small and one large area rug. The documentation notes that the “Rug” mode uses twice as much solution, so your mileage may vary. Also note that the clean water tank is not huge — when full, it takes about 3 1/2 cups (or about 800ml) of water and solution. So the amount of liquid in use is not a lot compared, say, to a professional wet vac rug cleaner with a multi-gallon tank.
When I was finished, I noticed that the kitchen floor was almost completely dry. Much more so than when I used a bucket and mop. When I removed the dirty water tank, I was struck by HOW dirty it was. Having a dog, I was also happy to see the amount of fur it had collected. What I originally thought would be too much cleanup, turned out to be super easy and fast. Simply running the parts under warm water was all it took.
Here’s where the documentation failed me. It shows how to clean the dirty water tank, filter, and brush and then separately shows you how to use the included storage tray to clean the internal mechanisms and the brush (again!) I think, in practice, it would be smarter to clean the brush and internals using the tray, and *then* disassemble the dirty water tank, filters, etc to clean them. Finally, remove the brush and clean it and you’re done. Please note, this is not a problem with the Crosswave, but with the directions. Just use the cleaning tray first, then rinse the dirty water tank, filter, and roller.
I’m not sure I’ll pull this out for routine vacuuming, but I’m ready to retire my bucket and mop, and will certainly use the Crosswave when company’s coming!

This Chromebook was so fast and easy to set up!
It took me less than three minutes to get up and running. The on-line tutorial was simple and fun and did not get bogged down in detail. It tells you just what you need to know when you need to know it.
My first impressions were that this device would be great for students and seniors who do mostly Web browsing, email. and video watching.
But the more I used it, the more I was surprised at how much I liked this machine. It’s solid, and well built, has a nice keyboard (I disagree with comments that criticize the key travel), has an easy-to-use touchpad, and best of all, flips around to become a full function tablet. (The hinges are well made and the keyboard gets disabled in tablet mode so you can’t accidentally press a key from below.)
At first glance, 4 Gb of RAM and 16 GB of SSD storage seems like too little for “real” work. But Google gives you 100 GB of cloud storage free for two years. (After that, it’s $1.99/month — still cheaper than a hard drive!) I found overall response fast, even with multiple apps running.
It has a nice HD camera built in for video calls using Google Hangout — one of many Google apps you can download and use for free.
My only complaints — and they are minor — is the lack of a lighted keyboard and an AC adapter plug that seems like it can slip out of the computer too easily. But this may even be a feature if you’re the type to jump up when your computer is still plugged in. With nearly 10 hours of battery life, you may not spend too much time with it plugged in at all!

Solid, easy-to-use, great low-end laptop

I was surprised to find how quickly I got this machine up and running! The start-up tutorial gave you enough info to get going without bogging down in detail. I was online in just a few minutes.
Although many Google apps are available, this machine seems like it would be a great choice for a student or senior who has limited computing needs. It's SO easy to get online, use Gmail, Facebook, make video calls via Google Hangouts, and watch videos using YouTube, Netflix, or other streaming programs.
The Chromebook comes with 16 Gb of flash memory and 4 Gb of RAM -- which would seem slim for many users, but Google gives you 100 Gb of cloud storage (free for 2 years - $1.99/mo. after that) which makes perfect sense for most users.
It's a solid-feeling machine. The screen is bright and viewable and the audio is remarkable!
I found the the trackpad and keyboard to be easy to use and responsive; I do not agree with comments that the key travel is too short.
Finally, and maybe best of all -- the battery can last up to 10 hours between charges!
I have only two complaints: 1) the AC adapter: it barely plugs in and can fall out readily. Good news if you're the type to run off with your laptop still plugged in, I suppose! 2) the keyboard is not backlit - but for the price, that's understandable too.

Easy to install; Fast performance!

I've had an Apple Airport Extreme router for over five years connected to several Macs, iPhones, and iPad, and a Nook HD+ with no complaints or problems. I was skeptical that a Linksys router could match Apple's ease-of-use and easy install. I was happy to be wrong!
I followed the (literally) two-page, four-step Quick Start Guide and had everything up and running within a half hour. It would have been faster but I changed the name of the new router and had to restart.
Family members and I did a before-and-after test using on-line games, streaming TV, and browser loading (my Nook had been especially slow lately...) and found the new dual band router to be faster in every test.
My biggest (no pun) concern was the size of the router itself. It's footprint is about 8" x 10" x 7" with antennae extended and it can't stand up, so I had to clear more space than the compartatively small Apple Airport Extreme (about 6.5" x 6.5" x 1.5" and can stand on it's side). Once in place, however, this is not a deal-breaker in any way!
Finally, we had some trouble getting our relatively new HD TV to connect to the new router. We got a message that said it couldn't connect to the gateway. I will need to investigate this further to see why.

Excellent sound value

I installed this soundbar and subwoofer on our second TV and am very impressed with how good it sounds for the price. Most big flat screens look great but are lacking in quality audio, so adding an audio component is always a good idea. Our main TV has a fancy (and pricey!) surround sound system. The Insignia Soundbar provides an excellent audio experience for a fraction of the cost!
Installation was simple and straightforward. There is a detailed manual as well as a three page quick setup guide. You can hang the sound bar on the wall, or put it on the stand in front of the TV -- which is what I did. It has clean lines and looks elegant. It also has controls on one end for on/off, volume, and input -- in case the remote isn't handy.
It pairs easily with Apple devices to stream audio via Bluetooth, which makes our old stereo system just about obsolete. Currently, I use it more for music than for TV!
It has three sound presets: Standard, Theater, and News. Anyone who has a problem understanding dialog on movies will love the News setting. It emphasizes the speech frequencies and make dialog clearer.
Although minor, I did have a problem with the remote. There are separate, but very long buttons for the volume Up and Down, which makes you want to use them like a rocker switch. I find myself pushing on the lower part of the Up button to turn down the volume, but instead raising it. I catch my mistake, but only after blasting the volume!
Finally, I think the unit is well-sized. The bar fits nicely in front of a large flat screen TV and the subwoofer produces excellent bass with a smaller-than-expected footprint. Also, it can be placed anywhere in the room that is near an outlet, since it connects to the soundbar wirelessly through Bluetooth.

Yes. It even comes with a phone cord. This is probably great for offices that still fax and have a dedicated line, but many homes don't have landlines any more.
