Sometimes I think people miss the pervading intelligence of this movie. Known now as being the purveyor of gross-out humor - the script actually had a lot more on its mind, including social caste, race, conformity, fascism, and a whole lot more. It's also a biting critique of the social mores of the country in the "pre-Beatles" era and, in its own way, illustrates so many of the factors that would lead to the counter-culture movement just on the horizon. Of course, it's also one of the funniest movies ever made and the fact that it would be the launch pad for Belushi and Landis and Reitman, and on and on -with lines and scenes that are still quoted to this very day - well - yeah it's one of the best comedies ever made. But it's also one of the more important ones, as well. Buy it!!!!!!
In this speculative historical thriller based on the book by Stephen King, a high school English teacher (James Franco) discovers a way to travel through time and seizes the opportunity to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy, only to meet resistance from a timestream that doesn't like being meddled with, or altered.
Absolutely hilarious from the beginning to the end! Billy Crystal plays a creative writing instructor who has writer's block. He also has an ex-wife who has just published a best seller. His best seller. He is frustrated with the writer's block, furious with his ex-wife for stealing his book and being driven insane by the pathetic stories coming through his creative writers class. Danny DeVitto plays a slow witted man in about his late thirties or early forties living with his mother who is always yelling at him and being generally disgusting. He is aspiring to be a writer and is taking Crystal's college class. When Crystal tries to explain motive to DeVitto by sending him to see a Hitchcock Film, he sets loose an imaginative and resourceful streak in DeVitto, who gets from the Hitchcock film (Strangers on a Train) that Crystal has offered to set up a reciprocal killing - Crystal would kill his mother if DeVitto killed his wife. Without realizing what DeVitto is thinking and without having an opportunity to explain the concept of an alibi, Crystal's life is turned upside down as he is put on the run from the law and the only one he can turn to is DeVitto - who expects him to kill his mother.

This modern twist on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic detective novels follows recovering drug addict and NYPD consultant Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) as he throws himself into the art of criminal investigations. By his side is Dr. Joan Watson (Lucy Liu), a "sober companion" hired by Homes' dad in hopes of keeping the famous sleuth from falling into old habits. This set contains every episode from season three of the series.
Elementary has become one of my favorite television shows. I enjoy all things to do with Sherlock Holmes (books, movies, and television series - both serious adaptations and parodies) and at first had some doubts about of some of the modernizations of this series. I quickly admitted my error as the show has become a very different and unique Holmes offspring while still staying true to the science of deductive reasoning.
Johnny Lee Miller is outstanding in his portrayal of Sherlock - a man devoted to solving problems. One assumes that his mind works at a phenomenal rate and essentially can't stop the reasoning process from taking over every part of his thoughts and life. He has almost an Asperger's type of behavior, including almost non-existent social skills. Lucy Liu is excellent as Joan Watson, his partner. It is with Watson that I have seen the biggest deviation from the original stories. Watson is becoming as important an investigator as Holmes. With Ms. Liu skillfully portraying this character, it is a pleasure to watch this transformation. This has been my take-away of the biggest change in season 3. I'm looking forward to seeing where the writers and actors take these characters in season 4.
This bone chilling release from the horror series Penny Dreadful includes all eight episodes of the show's first season, following characters in Victorian England through many terrifying, sexually disturbing horrors.
Fun, flawed, mysterious series great for fans of late 19th century England through the lens of supernatural, mystical, gothic horror. Incorporations of characters of 19th gothic literature like Dr. Frankenstein and Dorian Grey, put a strain on the audience's suspension of disbelief and is kind of confusing (like when Mary Shelley's brother, the poet Percy Shelley, is quoted by Frankenstein's monster). The coolest parts of the show are the characters and supernatural elements that're NOT from literature. Lots of cool elements like imperialist exploration of Africa and ancient Egyptian magic.
This is the extraordinary story of one of the world’s greatest living minds, the renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, who falls deeply in love with fellow Cambridge student Jane Wilde. Once a healthy, active young man, Hawking received an earth-shattering diagnosis at 21 years of age. With Jane fighting tirelessly by his side, Stephen embarks on his most ambitious scientific work, studying the very thing he now has precious little of "time". Together, they defy impossible odds, breaking new ground in medicine and science, and achieving more than they could ever have dreamed.
