Organize needed peripherals with this Belkin Thunderbolt 3 DOCK MINI. The two HDMI ports support 4K monitors, while the two USB ports let you link a mouse, keyboard and other devices. Connect to a router for high-speed Internet using the Ethernet port. This Belkin Thunderbolt 3 DOCK MINI works with Windows and Mac devices for increased compatibility, and the thin aluminum body is both durable and portable.

Ok, but only for a very specific use case
on July 17, 2019
Posted by: swemoney

This is an OK device for a very specific niche but it kind of left me baffled as to what it's real audience is. To me, the only real use of this was connecting a thunderbolt 3 device to 2 extra monitors that only support HDMI. The extra ports feel more tacked on to justify the price points than anything.
Setup is pretty easy on a MacBook Pro. Plug it in and it's ready. That's it. From my understanding, there may be a couple more hurdles to jump through for a Windows 10 device.
Everything seemed to work great. I'm not sure what else to comment here. Things worked as expected.
But with that said, I still don't fully understand this product. Even the label "docking station" feels weird because it acts more like a "dongle" than anything. The ports that they include aside from the 2 HDMI ports are kind of baffling. Gigabit Ethernet makes the most sense because more portable computers just don't come with them anymore so throwing that in there just because you can makes at least a little sense. The 2 USB-A ports feel super weird as one of them is USB 2.0 and the other one is 3.0. I don't know why they aren't both USB 3.0 but I assume "reasons". The biggest draw back to this "docking station" is that you don't have any extra USB-C ports. At least one USB-C port would have been nice to make up for the USB-C port you're plugging this into. That was my biggest "what?" moment when I realized it didn't have at least one USB-C port... in 2019... on a "docking station".
I just can't say it enough. I don't know what this device is really targeting. All I can safely say is it obviously isn't me. If you need to extra the capabilities of your laptop to output to two 4K HDMI screens while plugging in to gigagit ethernet and connecting an extra USB 2.0 device as well as a USB 3.0 device... and that's all you need... then this is the device for you! If that very specific niche isn't your use case, you can probably find a more specialized device that's cheaper and doesn't include the "extras".

Pretty good handheld vacuum
on July 11, 2019
Posted by: swemoney
from Hanover Park, IL
This has been a pretty nice handheld vacuum for me after going quite a while without one. I remember having a DustBuster as a kid but that's probably been the last time. Obviously after so many years, things have improved.
My favorite part of this version is the detachable battery. It makes it very easy to charge and if you want to have longer power you can just buy an extra battery to use while the dead one charges. Very nice feature here. The battery charger is also pretty compact so you can store the actual vacuum where ever you want while putting the charger somewhere with an outlet so you don't need to hang the whole vacuum on the wall or anything.
Suction seems pretty good. The attachment is nice for getting into smaller spots. Some kind of brush attachment for pet hair would be nice as some problem corners where pet hair has built up is still pretty hard to tackle without brushing the hair loose. But overall, the vacuum works pretty well as it's intended. Emptying is also super simple. Just detach the front and take out the filter and dump it.
So all in all, this is a pretty decent hand held vacuum. Problem spots like corners and vehicles would be the best use for it. If this fits your budget and you're looking for a decent hand held vacuum, I'd recommend it.

Good sound from an Alexa speaker
on July 8, 2019
Posted by: swemoney
from Hanover Park, IL
We replaced our Amazon Echo with this device and all in all, I'm pretty happy with it. It only has one real downside compared to the official Echo which is that it doesn't support Apple Music right now. This was something that the Echo didn't support when I first got it so I'm hoping eventually, this Bose speaker will be able to patch in support.
Setup is pretty simple. it doesn't make you do the whole "go to your wifi settings and find the Bose device" thing that so many devices do now-a-days. You download the app and login (sadly, you need an account) and it just finds your speaker in a few seconds. Then it'll update the firmware for you and finish the setup. Quick and painless and the app does a pretty good job of guiding you as it figures out how you want to set things up (allowing Alexa and/or Google access, etc).
The sound is pretty much what you'd expect from Bose and such a small speaker. This speaker is a bit stockier than the Echo but it sounds a lot better. Does it sound like a home theatre in your kitchen? Not really. But it does sound really nice and it can get pretty loud if you want it to. Bose is usually great at packing a nice sound into a small package and they deliver here.
The features of this speaker are pretty standard but everything works great. Alexa works almost exactly like my Echo. As stated earlier, the only feature missing is the ability to directly play Apple Music but it works with Spotify and also has AirPlay support so if I really want to play something from Apple Music, I can just AirPlay it from my phone really easily. I hope that they patch in Apple Music support for Alexa in the future, though, as it's much nicer to just ask to hear some music instead of pull it up on my phone to AirPlay it.
The preset buttons on top are pretty nice as well. You can specify specific stations and playlists you want to start when you activate one of the preset buttons which gives you really easy access to some of the music you play a lot of.
If I have to nitpick a little bit, one thing I really miss from my Echo is the light ring around the top. This device has a light in the front. It's a couple of inches wide so it lights up and can kind of show you a general direction where it was activated from but that's only if you're looking right at the front of the speaker. For a speaker that's supposed to be 360 degrees, there are just way too many positions you can be in and not see the light at all. If you're used to waiting for the ring on an official Amazon Alexa device before continuing with your command, you'll have to start trusting that Alexa heard the activation word instead of pausing to see if the light turns on.
So aside from a couple of short comings, this is a pretty good speaker. It sounds great for something you're probably going to put in your kitchen and does almost everything an official Alexa device can do. It also supports Google Assistant which I don't use, but it's there! If this is in your budget and you want a good sounding speaker some cooking music, this is a good buy.

Good price for some decent power
on June 30, 2019
Posted by: swemoney
from Hanover Park, IL
I'll start my review with my overall thoughts. This is a pretty decently powered laptop for the price point. You'll make a few concessions but just for the ability to play most of your games at pretty high settings and mobile, this is laptop is pretty great. I'll touch on those smaller issues that I'm not super happy about below.
Setup is pretty standard for any new laptop. Just let Windows do it's thing. Answer all of the questions it asks you and you're done. I'm not a fan of included anti-virus trials so I removed that and installed Avast for free. Most of the "bloat" that you'd find in prebuilt computers and laptops is pretty easy to uninstall with the newest update to Windows 10 (May update even allows you to uninstall a lot of Windows installed applications you weren't able to uninstall previously). So after a short time, I had a pretty clean system. I left the Acer update/support apps and the NitroSense app for controlling the fans. I was actually impressed with the lack of super bloaty preinstalled apps.
The hardware feels pretty OK. Not great. It's a plastic laptop but for this price I wouldn't expect much else. The 17" laptop is large but I wouldn't say it's insanely big or heavy. Feels like a good size. The keyboard is just OK as well. The membrane keys are pretty noticeable as typing doesn't feel wonderful after a long time. The keys just feel a bit stiff while also being oddly mushy. Nothing I can't live with but it's something I noticed. If you are planning on doing a lot of typing on this, you may want to explore other options. The keyboard backlight, on the other hand, is my most despised feature on this laptop. It's really bad and I don't feel like it needs to be. The keys have a red highlight to them which doesn't make them incredibly easy to see in low light situations. The firmware that controls the backlight for the keyboard is just programmed to turn off the backlight after 30 seconds. No custom settings. No ability to change it. No options for keeping the backlight on at all times while connected to power. This is such a terrible oversight because the keyboard is literally impossible to see if you don't have really good light in the room you're trying to use it. So you can't just start typing again if the backlight turns off. You always need to tap another key to see where you are. It's just really annoying and I really, really hope there's some sort of software or firmware fix in the future that let's me change this. It really is my biggest complaint.
Other hardware related things. I was a little disappointed to see the old style power brick and circular connector instead of USB-C in 2019 but whatever. I would have liked to see the plug in a different spot as it's right in the middle of the right side of the laptop. If you're using a mouse (this is a gaming laptop, so you know you are) this plug does extend into your mouse space if you're right handed. It would have been nice to put the power closer to the top of the laptop. The speakers actually do a pretty decent job for a laptop. The screen looks really nice. Connector-wise, we have 3 USB-A, a USB-C, HDMI, Ethernet and 3.5mm audio. Everything you could need.
Games is what you're buying this for. I downloaded a couple of games I figured could test the power of this laptop. One thing you'll want to make sure of before you start packing this laptop up to send back is that Windows is actually switching to the correct GPU when playing your game. I tested Doom right away and it "just worked" and I was able to get 60 fps with most of the settings on high (not a fully stable 60 but close). But when I tried out Apex Legends, I had every setting to it's lowest and was still only pulling 20fps. I found that WIndows was still using the integrated Intel GPU instead of switching to the nice Nvidia 1650. If you search for gpu in windows, you should see Graphics Settings that will let you force the performance GPU on certain games that don't switch over automatically. After setting that up, I was able to crank most of the settings to high on Apex Legends and it was buttery smooth. Combined with the nice 17" screen, I was very impressed with the performance and overall look of all of the games I tested. You might not be able to MAX all of the settings for your games but you should be able to run a lot of modern games at high-ish settings while maintaining 60fps and for the price point you're buying this laptop, you can't really ask for much more. The performance of the whole computer is the thing that make all of the smaller concessions worth it.
So overall, I'm happy with this laptop as a gaming machine. It performs really well (when set up correctly if Windows 10 doesn't automatically switch GPUs for you) has a really nice looking screen for you to look at all of your pretty games. There are a couple of issues that I wish weren't there. If you are going to use this for a lot of typing, I would consider other options for keyboards (just getting to the end of typing this review and my fingers are already feeling the fatigue) but for gaming, you should just fine. I just really hope they release some sort of update that lets us adjust how long the keyboard backlight stays on.

Really comfortable with a good sound
on June 12, 2019
Posted by: swemoney
from Hanover Park, IL
My main takeaway from these headphones is they're quite comfortable for extended sessions. I use these on PC while I stream and it's a very big change from my AudioTechnica headset that has leather cups that clamp to your head a lot firmer. If that's what you like, this headset may not be for you BUT you may be able to change that so keep an open mind.
Setup is pretty simple for me. Just plug my Astro A40 into the same jack I had my old headphones plugged into. End of story. A couple of volumes needed to be adjusted but that was basically all of the setup I really needed. I'm not currently using the MixAmp as I'm streaming on a simple PC and I don't generally stream my consoles so I just haven't found a use for it yet. I will be looking for a reason to use it in the future as it feels very well made and having those volume adjustments without tabbing out of whatever I was doing. I'm not certain how great the MixAmp sounds but the instructions provided give you a good idea of how to connect it depending on the setup you're looking to achieve. So setup is pretty easy.
Sound is pretty good. I wouldn't call myself an audiophile or anything but I haven't noticed any decrease in audio quality. The volume gets loud. Games and music both sound pretty great to me. This is a wired headset so you're not worrying about latency and other bluetooth caveats.
They feel really good! This may just be personal preference and some people may like the headphones that really clamp to your head and kind of "seal" your ears in. These are very breathable and and very light. They feel a lot lighter than they look and they fit pretty loosely over your ears but I don't notice them sliding around or anything so they seem to stay pretty secure anyways. After extended sessions, I don't have to worry about my ears getting sweaty or anything. The cups that are included are large enough to completely cover my ears without squishing them at all. Again, this could just be my personal preference, but coming from a style of headset with "leather" cups that clamped down on my head a lot harder, these felt miles better to me.
If this fit isn't for you, one of the neat features I noticed was that the panels and cups are all held in place with magnets. You can pop the ear cups and the side panels right off of headphones and just replace them with what they call a "Mod Kit". I haven't tried this as I don't own one of their mod kits but supposedly they have one that's geared more towards tournament play that may isolate your ears more and let less sound in from outside. So you appear to have options if the looser, breathable ear cups aren't your bag of tea.
All in all, I'm pretty impressed with this headset. I've only tried it with my PC but considering that the hook up to connect it to an Xbox is just to plug the 3.5mm headphone jack into your controller, I can't image it being very difficult. I also suspect that the standard analog connection should work with a PS4 as well but I have not tested this. The MixAmp is probably the thing that will only work on Xbox in the version that I have so keep that in mind if you're planning on using the MixAmp.
If you're looking for a nice, comfortable pair of headphones to use for extended periods of game play, I definitely recommend these.

Good but limited use
on May 29, 2019
Posted by: swemoney
from Schaumburg, IL
I have a much larger version of this (also from Belkin) from a few years ago that also charges my phone. That old version is pretty fat and much longer and a QUITE a bit heavier than this but it also charges the phone so if you need more of a universal charger, that might be the route you'd want to go instead of this.
That said, if you need the very specific niche feature that this device gives you, I'd say it's work it. It's biggest selling point is that it's very small and light. This is the definition of a throw it in your purse (or even pocket) and forget about it kind of device. It's just a little bit larger than the normal Apple Watch charger. I was really expecting a much larger device (close to the size of the 6700 mAh one that I already owned) but I was blown away by how small this was and then even more so by how light weight it is. I can't stress this enough. If you're ordering it online or you've just never gotten a chance to see one out of the box, you'll probably be thrown off by how small and light this is.
So setup is just.. nothing. Take it out of the box and slap your watch on it. Plug it in to the wall with the micro USB (USB-C would have been nice, but sadly it's micro USB) to charge it up again and whenever you're going about your day and you need a boost to your watch, just slap it on the charger for a couple minutes. It really just does what it's supposed to and the only down side is that it only charges your watch.
So do you need this? You should be able to judge that yourself. If you're going through your day and your watch is close to dead at some point in the day before you're capable of charging it at home, you probably could use this pretty well. It's so small and light that it'll fit in your pocket or purse without you really noticing it's there so you'll have an extra couple of full charges for your watch basically anywhere in the world when you need it.

Really nice aside from one annoyance
on May 29, 2019
Posted by: swemoney
from Schaumburg, IL
Before I got this charging dock, I just had a wireless Qi charging disc on my nightstand and another stand where I could dock my watch. This has nicely replaced everything and I'm liking it a lot.
Setup was quick and easy, as you'd expect. The power plug connects to the back of the dock and then to your outlet and that's all there is to it. Set your phone vertically on the stand to charge and your watch sits nicely on the base against the watch charger.
The dock looks pretty nice, overall. The white is clean and has a nice gloss to it. Even when nothing is charging, it doesn't look like an eye sore or anything. There was only one, somewhat large, annoyance for me that may not affect you at all. My iPhone XS Max uses an official Apple leather case of a dark color. After only a couple of days using this dock, I started to notice the dock becoming scuffed with the leather. I haven't taken drastic measures to try and clean it but it doesn't just wipe off with a finger or anything. So my nice white dock has some black scuff marks on it already at the points where the phone rests.
Aside from that one visual glitch, everything else works pretty well and I'll probably continue to use it as my main bedside charger. I didn't test how quickly things charge because this is for when I go to bed so I don't need anything super fast. As long as things are charged up by time I wake up. Placing the watch and phone just feel like they "click" into place. The watch especially since it has that snap into the charger. Since the phone just lays vertically on the dock, there's no need to find the sweet spot to line them up. This just works everything time I place my XS Max onto the dock. I can't vouch for smaller phones but I would assume they'd all work just as well.
If you're looking for a pretty nice dock for both your watch and your phone that looks good (and maybe you don't have one of the official apple leather cases in a dark color) this is a pretty good buy. I'd recommend it even with the leather scuffs.

Does what it says on the tin
on May 29, 2019

There isn't a whole lot to say about this charger as it's just that. A Qi wireless charger. It does what it's supposed to and, from my usage, does it pretty well. I've used it to charge my iPhone XS Max and, while I haven't done any scientific number timing, it does appear to charge my phone at a pretty decent speed.
Setup is what you'd expect from this kind of device. Remove the disc and the cable from the package and plug them into the USB to wall outlet included. Done! The disc looks very decent. Maybe a little bit thicker than I would like (this could just be required by the 10W faster chargers, though) but not too bad. There aren't any super obvious and obnoxiously bright lights either. Well designed.
While it's not confirmed that the XS Max actually supports the full 10W that this puts out, it does feel a bit faster than some of the normal wireless Qi chargers I've used with it. I didn't find it difficult to find the sweet spot on my phone with this charger so I've usually been able to put this in the right spot pretty quickly to get charging.
All and all, if you're looking for a good, fast, 10W wireless Qi charger for your phone, this one won't really disappoint you. Check your budget and see if this falls inside that.

Work pretty well for a cord cutter
on May 15, 2019
Posted by: swemoney

I've lived off of only internet for a few years now. It's mostly easy to do with all of the streaming services you can subscribe to ala carte now instead of paying for a bunch of cable channels you'll never watch. The only issue you run into is watching live TV sometimes. Local sports and other time sensitive programming is often challenging. This antenna works pretty well for me. I'm in the suburbs. About 30 miles outside of the city so I understand that getting perfect OTA TV isn't always possible without a nice expensive antenna on the roof. But this one works probably better than I was expecting.
Setup was pretty easy as it just plugs into your normal coax inout on your TV. The actual largest hassle was getting behind entertainment center to add another USB plug to plug in the amplifier. After that, I just stuck the antenna pointing out of the window and scanned for channels on my TV.
Surprisingly, I got most of the channels I should get. The only channel I was missing was CBS (but it's one of the few network channels that I actually pay money for so I wasn't too concerned about that). I'm sure there are extra digital channels somewhere out there that I might be missing but nothing I was expecting to see (aside from CBS) was missing. I don't have a lot of options as far as where to put the antenna so I didn't move all around looking for the best location or anything. I'm actually convinced, if it was important to get CBS, I'd be able to use the lights on the front of the antenna to find a little better signal and pick that up too with some different positioning.
Picture quality shouldn't really be discussed here since all OTA signals are digital now but the channels I was able to scan into my TV seem very stable and I didn't notice any fluctuations in signal or dropping of the signal in my testing.
All in all, this antenna was better than I was expecting. I'm a firm believer in getting what you pay for. This one isn't the cheapest antenna around but it's certainly not the most expensive either. If it fits in your budget and you're in the 20-40 mile range from the city, you can probably use this one. From the box, I do see there are other options for people who live IN the city and people who need more range by mounting it on the roof. So pick the one that's right for you!

Great sound. Extra features kind of meh
on April 30, 2019
Posted by: swemoney
from Schaumburg, IL
I'll start by saying this speaker does sound great on it's own. It has a nice sound with some nice bass and it's great for playing music or listening to baseball (the 2 things I've used it for). If you want a small, portable speaker for playing music, this one is good.
That said, the extra features they advertise aren't really that great, so I wouldn't recommend buying this if you're only looking at the extra features. I'm talking specifically about the ability to link more than one in 2 different modes. It's not made clear what exactly each mode does, but I think the "party" mode just plays the same thing out of each speaker while the other mode turns 2 of them into stereo speakers. I have the previous model of this same speaker and I tried to get both of these modes to work (it was the main reason I wanted this speaker) and I got party mode to work once but one of the speakers sounded incredibly soft while the other one was really loud which made the effect almost non-existent. I was never able to get the stereo speaker mode to work.
The apps for these speakers are pretty terrible. There's 2 separate apps. One for controlling the lights which is a joke. It's really bad. Just use the stock lighting modes and don't worry about creating custom effects. It's painful and I don't think it's worth it. The lights on the device are cool and all, but this app is just really really bad. There's also another app for adjusting the sound and connecting to other speakers and such. This app isn't quite as terrible but I also had a terrible time trying to get the 2 speakers to talk to one another so I can't say it's great either. The other feature that's really bad and I can't ever see anyone using is turning it into a drum machine. You tap different sides of the speaker and it makes sounds. I can see people playing with it for about 2 minutes like I did and never using it again. Pretty sure if you want a sound machine and want to make music, there are much better ways to invest your money than this thing.
I like the overall look of this update to the speaker. The previous model has a hard speaker mesh coving the entire speaker. I wasn't a huge fan. This one goes with a matte rubber black for the non-speaker parts which I feel is a lot more appealing. That's going to be entirely subjective, though.
My overall impression is, it's still a great speaker if that's all you're looking for. The upgrade from the XB31 to XB32 feels non-existent aside from the better looks of the new speaker so I wouldn't recommend this if you're just upgrading from the previous model. Also, don't get this if you're looking forward to all the extra bells and whistles that are advertised. They really don't add anything. If you're looking for just a good sounding speaker and this one is in your budget, go for it.

With no wires in the way, Bose SoundSport Wireless Sports Earbuds keep you moving with powerful audio. Perfect for exercise and running with a sweat and weather resistant design and StayHear+ tips designed for comfort and stability. The Tile app makes your headphones easy to find if they ever go missing.

Is it possible to remove that clip on the wire?

Clip is formed plastic around the wire, so not unless you break the clip. You can move it up and down the wire. I barely noticed it, myself.

Is this earphone compatible with Andriod phone?

I didn't test them out on an Android device, but they're bluetooth headphones. So if your Android device supports Bluetooth audio, they should work fine.
