I'm digging this. The case masquerades my Surface so it looks less like a theft target. The flip back stand built in is also nice. I haven't yet seen if it will be compatible with the dock. I'm hoping so in order to leverage that as well. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is the elastic hold downs for the keyboard are somewhat marginal. Especially if you use the keyboard in the tilted position which is a neat feature of the Surfaced Pro 3 Type keyboard.

A nice addition to the Surface Pro 3. The backlight and other keyboard shortcuts are pretty slick although it took me a bit to figure out how to enable "normal" keyboard shortcuts. For example the Alt-F4 command to close a window wouldn't work until I realized that i had the keyboard in the shortcuts for a Surface. Hitting Fn-Caps disables these functions and then the keyboard does all the normal shortcuts.

Microsoft did a nice job with this mouse. I love the way it folds up flat for storage. Smooth operation and the portability factor for a full sized mouse is slick. Nice job Microsoft! I'm using it with a new Surface Pro 3 and the pairing and battery life so far (1 month in) is outstanding. The vibratory feedback is a surprisingly cool addition.

Well its a mixed bag. The fact that you get 5 installs on PC's... AND you get 5 more installs on Tablets/iPads. That's a deal. On the other hand, some of the new and improved aspects of Office 2013 leave me befuddled. Most notably are some features taken out of Outlook versus the older 2010 version. So I've actually re-installed Outlook 2010 and am using it in place of Outlook 2013. So if you need Office, its great to have the ability to spread it all over. On the other hand, if you already have what you need installed. I can't see the value in upgrading to 2013 over 2010.

OK so far. But did generate an error of using too much power on an USB 3.0 for a new Surface Pro 3. Very lightweight. I question the long term durability and have not used it to burn, just as a drive to install older software onto a new drive-less tablet/Surface.

Loving this. Spent the coin to get the 256GB SSD but not the accelerated i5 processor. It's fine as is and is stable (even with Win 8.1 debacle). Only concern is that using the USB 3.0 to power an external DVD drive seems to be marginal. I've gotten a couple of error messages that the USB was underpowered to drive the DVD drive. Balance of the hardware has been fine. I'm getting probably about 6-7 hrs of use (versus the "up to 9" advertised). All good here!

can this be pass key protected, as i do not want any of my neighbors to start connecting and playing music
No it cannot but there is no need. To establish pairing you must physically push the pairing button on the device. So your neighbor would have to be next to the device to initiate pairing.

Can this device be connected in a car using the 3.5 mm jack, and does it have 12v power capibility?
Not as purchased. It's power supply comes from a 110V AC typical "wall wart" transformer that drops it down to a DC signal. That said you certainly can find a car adapter to purchase that would power it if you dig around a bit. And yes, if you had a device with bluetooth audio paired to this device, you could feed the output of the device from its 3.5mm jack into the external/AUX input that many car radios have. Although almost any device that would be playing music would also have that same output jack and you could handle it that way. I could see someone doing what you describe so that maybe someone in the back seat streaming Pandora could sync to the car system to play music without needing a long 3.5mm to 3.5mm cord.

How long do the batteries last in the keyboard?
Keyboard specs indicate it uses 4 AA batteries - how often do they have to be replaced?
The keyboard batteries will last some multiple of YEARS. We think of the keyboard as the most used item but the keyboard transmits the keystroke as a very fast pulse. Thus the drain on the batteries is minimal. I have the original batteries in 3 of these keyboards with the oldest being right at two years old. I travel a lot and have two offices so my use might be lighter than others. But suffice it to say you have months and months and months of use even if you are an author who is banging out a novel with 6 hours of non-stop typing a day.

Green Dots
The sales rep, recommended this for use with my Surface Pro. It projects the screen to my TV but video is laced with green dots and thus unwatchable. After trying to change settings, I'm beginning to think it is a quality issue.
You are probably correct. Normally missing colors or specific errors like you describe are the result of weak connections. I would return it and hope that's all it is. If another adapter has the same problem, than likely it may be the output on your Surface. I've had no issues with this and opted for the Apple product just because like Microsoft, they tend to sweat the details on their hardware. I have used mine on multiple monitors/TV's with zero problems. I hope you just got a bad one and an exchange solves your problem. Much easier to swap the dongle than to exchange the Surface!
