Good upgrade from the iPad Mini 2, but not the 3.

I have had iPads since they came out in 2010. I purchased the original series for both my daughter and I as they were released, skipping a year between each release for "better upgrades".
I skipped the iPad Mini 1 after seeing that it went backward in capability, and still had my iPad 4 when the iPad Mini 2 was released. I used that for a year and went against my norm...getting the iPad Mini 3 when it was released, since I liked the Touch ID capability for security. Also, I got the mobile version with a SIM, allowing portability. There were no other changes in the 2 and the specific 3 I purchased.
So, along comes the iPad Mini 4 and I had to have it...it's new and has to be better, right? Meh, sort of.
I'm older now, pushing mid 40's and now needing glasses to read, so I compared the iPad Mini 4 to the year old iPad Air 2 (since they skipped a version 3 for the iPad Pro). What I found was that the iPad Air 2, albeit a year old in technology, was still better in specs than the newly released iPad Mini 4. All sorts of bench tests from high tech companies have proved this (see for yourself online). So off to the store I went to test for myself. After several different app tests in Best Buy (multiple I might add), I found that side-by-side the iPad Air 2 was faster than my iPad Mini 4. I'll keep the device, since it too has a SIM and is great for travel in a backpack. But for the house...I'm awaiting the release of the new larger iPad, whatever it may be called in the next month or so. I believe it is rumored that on March 21st Apple may announce the next gen iPad.

I was able to use this device as an external HD, no problem. However, the Lyve backup and viewing capability was not as easy to setup, or use. So in the end...it just ended up being a large external HD. This was not what I wanted it for, as I was looking for mobile backup options, per what it advertised on the box. The device itself is plastic and scratched while setting it up. It is rather large and unsightly. As a connected HD, it does its purpose, but it was returned for not living up to the expectations I had for it.

Close, but not quite yet...

I purchased this ONLY after trying the WD version first and absolutely disliking it. The WD was not user friendly to set up or use and was extremely complicated. I understand tech and networking so most things come pretty simple to me. The WD version took hours to set up and ended up crashing, causing me hours online with support only to determine it was defective. Luckily, I had nothing important and off to Best Buy I went. That exchange brought me the Seagate Personal Cloud.
Setup was a breeze in comparison and I was up and running in under an hour. I liked that I could plug in another Seagate USB portable HD I had to the side of this unit and share all of the information to my mobile devices. I liked that it allowed iTunes syncing of over 2,000 songs in my library and I could stream them anywhere from my mobile device. I liked that I could view literally anything I had stored in my cloud...anywhere.
However, storing things to the device is EXTREMELY slow. It is not directly connected to your home PC (or in my case...Mac), so moving files is done through your wireless network and again...slowwwwwww. I also had issues setting up an account to link my wife's mobile device to the unit. I followed all of the instructions, sent the email invite (three times even) and it just would not work. In the end, the unit began overheating, going even slower and making a high pitch squeal and it too went back to Best Buy. No issues there and they were great about the return.
Until the technology improves and allows the direct connection to my home network (versus wireless to improve speed) and it just overall works better and smoother...I think I will wait for an updated version.

Perfect fit for our custom kitchen

We have a custom built kitchen with specific requirements for the height and width of a fridge. This model fit perfectly. Also, the freezer is much larger than previous side by sides I've had and seen, due to the ice maker being built into the door. Cools nicely and has a nice overall look. Could do without the constant magnet of fingerprints, but expected it with stainless. Also, not that I put many on the fridge, but magnets do not stick to the front...only the side. I would buy this item again.

I purchased the Amazon Fire TV after owning the Roku 3 for a year and after trying both the older and the newest versions and Apple TV. I am a Prime member so this seemed like a perfect choice. However, the remote is very unresponsive, disconnecting more than it stays connected. The menu layout is very "ad-centric" and pushes you towards how Amazon wants you to view their service. When the remote works, the Amazon TV seems sluggish in comparison to the other products I tried. After several hours of fighting with the remote, I decided to return it and get another Roku...possibly the version 4. Good try Amazon, but far from being close to either Roku or Apple TV.

Yes, you can remotely use it via the app when you are within range of it. To extend that range to anywhere with Internet access, you will need the Kevo Plus device that plugs into your home's wired network.

If somebody comes to visit me from out of town, can I issue eKeys to them or do they have to have the actual fab?
You can email them an ekey for free. You can also revoke that ekey once th y are done.

Is this a double deadbolt, meaning is it a key on the outside AND the inside of the door, or is the inside a turn knob?
No, just a key on the outside and a latch you switch on the inside.

Does the phone App keep a log of when the door was unlocked and can you set it up to send you push notifications when the door is unlocked in real time?
Yes, you can set up notifications whenever the door is locked or unlocked and have them emailed each time. Or you can view them on the app or online.

Can you keep the deadbolt unlocked if you wanted?
It does not lock automatically. It requires you to either tap the metal housing on the outside portion or to use the app to lock it.

Is this compatible with Wink?
No, it runs through an independent app, but currently does not connect to any other smart home app. It used to work with Apple Home, but was pulled several months ago.
