Good Flash Drive for the money

I have been using this thumb drive for a little longer than a month now as extra storage space for files. The drive seems to run a little warm but it does the job. One thing I do notice is that it sometimes becomes "disconnected" and disappears from the explorer window causing me to have to remove and re-insert it. I have never lost any data as a result of this though. I use this in a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Not sure if that is a laptop or thumb drive issue. That is the reason for the 4 stars vice 5.

Overall a great WiFi extender

This extender is a good solution for someone who is basically looking to extend their WiFi signal into dead spaces of their home or office or to get either a WiFi or wired connection to a place in the home or office without running Ethernet cable. It supports wireless AC and is backwards compatible with wireless G&N as well as being duel band 2.4 and 5 Ghz. Pretty easy to get set up and running. I have experienced an occasional connection loss between it and my primary router, but it isn't a big enough problem to hit the rating and has only occurred a few times since installing it a month ago.

what is the range on this device
I have a 3250 SqFt home and this device does very good. I have it installed on the first floor with my primary router on the second floor of the home. You really cant answer the question of what is the range because the range of the signal will be affected by many different things, for instance other wireless devices in the area, the structure of the dwelling, i.e. concrete, wood framing and drywall, how many walls wind up between the device and the client trying to connect to it and the likes. I will tell you the 2.4Ghz band generally speaking has a better range than the 5 Ghz band, however the 5 Ghz band is less susceptible to interference from other signals and offers a higher bandwidth possibility, better for streaming files like video files. If you get one and are not happy with the range, I would try move it around to different locations first before returning it.

My building has free wi-fi but weak signal - will this help?
My building offers free wi-fi through a non password protected connection but the signal is weak in my part of the building. Can this device help me if I do not have the router (ie I do not have router codes etc.)? If not this device is there another?
Dave, yes this device will help but you might have to tinker with the placement of it. Also, the only router code you should need will be the same network password you would use to log onto the network from your computer. Since you mention the router is an open network you could password protect this device and at least keep your side of the network somewhat secure so someone else seeing a stronger signal from this device isn't using it as well.
