This holds up pretty well considering it's age. It came out around the same time as The Nightmare Before Christmas, right after I think. So it has the same look - it's stop motion photography, tedious to do. There is a weird mixture of live actors with the stop motion characters. Fun movie especially if you're a fan of Roald Dahl's work.
If you like the idea of Disney meets Spielberg, this is literally it! Based on the Roald Dahl story, it's fantasy fun with a few messages. The CGI is stellar, using MoCap technology.
Wish I could give this 10 stars! Hope Giles Martin will give another album this treatment. Maybe Revolver or Rubber Soul? Magical Mystery Tour? Can actually hear many of the vocal harmonies better and the drums are much improved. Little bits that you never heard may pop out, especially with headphones. I might normally be a purist when it comes to messing with legendary classics but we still have the original versions, so why not an updated mix? The songs are what are important and I imagine the pop genius of these tunes will always come through no matter what. Highly recommended. BTW I am a composer, producer and recording artist as well as a major Beatles fan, so I praise this from a professional as well as listener perspective.
Hard to top 2001. It's Kubrick after all. The effects aren't as good and we all know there's NO sound in outer space. I hate that they had to explain away HAL's misbehavin' in the first film, but this is what Arthur C. Clarke wrote so... it's a decent enough film on it's own - it's just hard NOT to compare it to the first. Good cast. Some of the synthesizer sounds are SO dated and will evoke a giggle or two. If you're a hard core sci-fi buff you'll probably enjoy as long as you're not expecting a masterpiece.
Well, I agree with Mark Hamill and don't really like what they've done with Luke Skywalker's character - just doesn't seem to jive, based on all the other films. Yoda was around a lot longer and never got this jaded! Also there's no really strong evil presence - makes one really appreciate Darth Vader. lol Solo's son is so wishy washy - is he evil? Is he good? Wait five minutes to see. Still, it's Star Wars and fun, just not as classic as the earlier films. Guess it's the times.
Incredible cast - not the first version of this film but still fun to watch. If nothing else, Branagh's ridiculous mustache has to be seen to be believed. Closer to Agatha's version.
For those who enjoy Bryan Cranston's always stellar acting chops, this is a no brainer. Also it tells the story of the take down of Pablo Escobar's drug empire, so it might be an interesting companion piece for fans of the Narcos TV series. Highly recommended.
Yes, we now have a fun, goofball Thor who does comedy routines with Loki and the Hulk and even a Valkyrie. Some won't like this change in direction. Thor has always been SO serious and Shakespearean. This new direction is certainly entertaining, but they might want to tone it down just a tad bit. lol

Okay, zombies are all the rage and we're being saturated with them. This has a different twist and is actually an intelligently written film - yes, there is actually a plot! A different spin on the zombie genre - predicting this may well become a cult classic among zombie fans. Some heavy hitters in the acting category - Glenn Close, Paddy Considine and the lovely Gemma Arterton.
