A very good "gun fu" movie with Keanu Reeves, looking almost cadaverous, taking on a Russian mob. The movie strains credulity at times to say the least, but it's a fast and fun ride for action fans. The mobsters have one guy who's almost the equal of Reeves; too bad he wasn't given more time and development. It's always best when the hero has a worthwhile opponent. Otherwise, no complaints.
This is exactly what the product description says, a collection of all of (now Dame) Diana Rigg's appearances as Mrs. Peel on the "Avengers" tv show from Great Britain. Although Honor Blackman had preceded her, Ms. Rigg was the first woman heroine on the show that most U.S. viewers saw, and they fell in love (I did certainly) with her Mona Lisa smile, karate chop heroics, and mod wardrobe. The collection is bare of extras, but it's a real treat to see all of this episodes again. Mrs. Peel could still teach today's tough girls a thing or three.
The biggest concern I had going in was Costner as the title character, but he was okay. The movie is just way overblown and badly needed to be edited down. And Alan Rickman's villain was much too "funny" for my taste; would have liked more "straight" menacing from him.
This collection of a dozen martial-arts movies includes Dynamite Shaolin Heroes, Fist from Shaolin, Shaolin Invincible Guys, Shaolin Brothers, The Cavalier, Rebel of Shaolin, 18 Shaolin Riders, Shaolin Death Squad, Stranger From Shaolin, Shaolin Super Dragon, Shaolin Kung Fu, and The Magnificent.
Like Mill Creek's other kung fu collections, "Kickin' It" has some good movies from the genre and several not so good. Overall I think it's weaker than either "Flying Fists..." or "Way of the 5 Finger..." These are films from smaller Hong Kong and Taiwan companies, not Shaw Brothers or Golden Harvest. There are a lot of outdoors scenes to save money on building or leasing sets, and not many genre stars. Still, a lot of the fighting is "Old School" good, and fans should enjoy this bargain. Picture quality is okay but certainly not for those who must have hi-def. And of course the violence and some bad language make it unsuitable for children.
It's not a blockbuster, it's not a sequel, it doesn't have big name stars. It's just an entertaining take on the old "what power does to people" theme. It's the sort of "little" but very good movie that ought to be made more often. And the price is certainly a bargain.

What's great about it: Ideas and the way it's brought to life
I had all of these movies on tape but was reluctant to buy them all separately. Getting all three at a low price was great. "Escape" is a bit dated but is still carried by Kurt Russell's great performance and some other good ones. And the other two movies still hold up as great actionfests. Can't go wrong at this price!

What's great about it: Three very good "guy flicks"
What's not so great: If you like "behind the scenes" stuff, look elsewhere
The cover says "Inspired by Physco." Oh yes, who can forget Hotchkick's great movie? Nightmare Inn/Candle for the Devil was considered to be rather gory back in 1970, but it looks almost (not quite) like a tv movie now. The dubbed Italian production will make you laugh probably more than it scares you. But Judy Geeson is a very winsome damsel in distress, and the price is low, so what the heck - have some cheese.

What's great about it: Pretty heroine Judy Geeson; just sort of a general hoot
What's not so great: Really nothing great to excite you
This movie, better known as "Battle of the Warriors," is well done. And it shows that even in long-ago times which made much ado about men's honor, good people were often treated horribly by others who had more power and fewer scruples. What happens to one good character was so heart-breaking that I just can't "like" the film enough to recommend it, even though I admire the skill of the people who made it.

What's great about it: Large-scale action scenes, characters you care about
What's not so great: What happens to some of those characters
Enough glass to panel a skyscraper gets blown up in this movie. And the fights, armed and unarmed, should satisfy almost all action junkies. For the action, I give it a recommendation. There are plenty of nice dvd extras, too. But that said, the movie is really poor in story (basically just "catch the bad guys") and in characterizations. All the characters could be described in about four words each. So you'll enjoy the action, but won't remember much about the plot or people.

Dragon Dynasty delivers the very best in classic martial arts in this four film collection featuring Executioners from Shaolin, Martial Arts of Shaolin, Mad Monkey Kung Fu, and Five Shaolin Masters.
This set is a nice look at the career of director and fight choreograper Liu Chia Liang (Yar Kar Leung) and his impact on the genre. He helped change martial arts movies from guys just swinging their arms around to ones where genuine styles were shown. He also showcased long, involved scenes where actors would execute a number of moves before the camera stopped and went to a different angle. While none of these are his five best movies imo, they are all very good and the fights are a joy to watch. At this price, highly recommended!
