2) Decreases phone's battery life. The Gear app seems to constantly sync with the phone, draining my battery faster.

Does the Samsung Smartwatch monitor sleep activity?
Yes, the Gear 2 does. However it does not start automatically. You have to start it and them stop it when you wake up.

No, not for this one. You would have to for the newer Gear S.
