A prequel? sequel? to the superior Cloverfield we embark on a roller coaster ride of paranoia and compulsion until the over the top climax. Spotlight is a gripping true life drama. It's the story of the investigative team of reporters (lead by Pittsburgh's own Michael Keaton) who uncover the scandal that rocked the Catholic Church. It exposes the cover-up by church leaders and the blind eye turned to the problem by others because they didn't want to believe it or were pressured to stay silent.In most instances the victims were of the least concern. Its a shocking commentary on power, money and corruption. The film is a linear straight forward affair that pulls no punches in the telling.A well acted, well made film that uses its 2 hour running time expertly. You will never be bored.

As an older adult and longtime comic fan I approached the Lego versions of the DC universe with caution. I found the first Lego Movie to be a pleasant surprise, adult, funny and full of social commentary. The DC/Bizzaro movie was also full of laughs and well written. This newest release, Cosmic Clash, is a fun, well crafted movie but lacks the punch of the earlier films. Thoroughly enjoyable and nice to look at, it offers an escape from the real world. Recommended to comic fans.

Empire is a well crafted TV drama that is as much sudsy fun as past TV shows like Dallas and Dynasty. Of course you can't have a successful soap opera without a knock-out leading lady and Taraji P Henson more than fills out the designer heels of greats Linda Evans and Jackie Collins. A great cast including Terrance Howard and some very talented newcomers make this musical drama must see TV. Great music is also a plus!

The wild is a wonderful film, truthful, rugged and at times difficult to watch. It's success is largely due to the incredible performance of its star, Reese Witherspoon. Seldom has a major Hollywood actor known for one genre taken on such an emotional soul-bearing role and succeeded so well. Her Academy Award nomination for this was so well deserved. The movie is one woman's trek thru the wilderness and the hardships she faces, emotionally and physically. Other than that, you should discover the stunning heart at the center of this film for yourself.
